Summer Grocery Support: SUN Bucks provides food assistance to families with eligible school-age children during the summer break when school meals are unavailable. State Partnership: The program is a joint effort between the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and the California Department of Education (CDE). School District Role: Local school districts (LEAs) are essential in determining student eligibility for the program.   Who is Eligible for SUN Bucks? Most children are identified automatically through existing state data, but some families may need to take action depending on their school's meal program.   1. Automatic Eligibility (No Action Needed): Children are automatically enrolled if they are age 6–18 and meet one of the following: Students directly certified to participate in CalFresh, CalWORKs, or FDPIR. Note: Children receiving Medi-Cal benefits with a confirmed household income at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level will be automatically certified. The student is officially designated as foster, homeless, or migrant.   2. Eligibility via Application (Action Will Be Needed) A Universal Benefits Application (UBA) to confirm SUN Bucks eligibility.   How to Apply If your child was not automatically enrolled, you can still secure SUN Bucks for the summer. Follow these steps to ensure your family receives these benefits: Check Your Status If you haven't received a notice of eligibility, contact your school’s front office or nutrition department to see if your child is already on the list. Submit Your Application Ensure your application is submitted before the end of the school year.  Apply/Aplicar While electronic submission** of the UBA application is preferred, see paper applications below: English UBA Form Forma en Español **Your child's School Office Staff or School Services Department will help you submit an electronic application. An appointment is preferred.    Contact your child's school.   You will need to fill out one of the following form: Universal Benefits Application (UBA): For schools where all students already eat for free. Electronic submission preferred. Act Early Ensure your application is submitted before the end of the school year. In my over 30 years as an educator, I have seen firsthand how our schools transform lives and strengthen the communities we serve.   Our mission is to empower every student to excel academically, thrive physically and emotionally, and succeed in life by fostering a culture of safety, resilience, inclusivity, and lifelong learning. This is more than just a mission - it’s a commitment that each and every teacher and staff member shares.     This year marks ABCUSD’s 60th anniversary, when the Artesia, Carmenita, and Bloomfield school districts unified to become one district. Although much has changed since 1965 - fewer cows for one - one thing hasn’t: our dedication to ensuring every student succeeds. Our whole-child approach pairs rigorous academics with the arts, enrichment, and real-world experiences so students graduate as well-rounded young adults.   Our schools continue to be recognized among the best in the region and nation, with honors such as National Blue Ribbon Schools, California Distinguished Schools, Gold Ribbon Schools, and Schools to Watch/National Model Middle Schools, along with many other awards and accolades. The Board Advisory Committees are under the direction of a Board liaison and District staff liaison. Recommendations and presentations are made to the Board of Education. The Board seeks diverse community representation and includes parents, community members, students, teachers, and staff members.   To apply to become a member of one of the following committees, complete the ABC Unified School District Board Advisory Committee Application ( BAC - English ) ( BAC - Spanish ) and return it to the Superintendent’s Office, 16700 Norwalk Blvd., Cerritos, CA 90703.  The applications will be retained for a period of two years. When an opening occurs, the Board will review the applications.  All members are approved by the Board of Education prior to serving on the Committee.   Following are descriptions of the Board Advisory Committees and list of current Advisory Committee members appointed by the Board of Education.   Diversity, Unity and Equity Board Advisory Committee   The Diversity, Unity, and Equity Board Advisory Committee prioritizes issues of equity and social justice. Collaborate with district leaders to develop recommendations and a plan of action to be presented to the Board of Education that will include policy, procedures, and school support recommendations. The committee explores anti-racist programs; and monitors progress and outcomes of recommendations implemented.   Legislative/Policy Board Advisory Committee   The Legislative/Policy committee reviews and makes recommendations to existing Board policies and administration regulations that need to be revised and updated. As new laws become enacted, such as Education Codes or new legislation, the Committee will review new policies for the District based on the staff recommendations from ad-hoc groups or committees.   Finance & Audit Board Advisory Committee   The Finance & Audit Board Advisory Committee reviews and makes recommendations regarding: The Governor’s Budget Proposals & May Revision The State Adopted Budget The District’s annual Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) & Budget The District’s first and second interim reports The District’s annual audit report Monthly enrollment and attendance information Any other information relating to the District’s Finance & Audit   The Finance & Audit Committee makes recommendation to the Board regarding the hiring of the District’s external auditor (once every three to five years). In addition, the Committee reports to the Board, on an as needed basis, any specific charge as directed by the Board of Education.   Strategic Plan Board Advisory Committee   The Strategic Plan Committee focuses on the Board adopted Strategic Plan and Initiatives. Each year, the Committee reviews and makes recommendations regarding the progress of the work in the Strategic Plan areas. Each year the Strategic Plan Committee makes a presentation to the Board evaluating progress on the Strategic Plan.   Student Transfer Committee   The committee, in making its recommendations to approve or deny a parent/guardian’s request to transfer their students from the regular school of attendance, shall follow board policy and administrative regulations pertaining to intradistrict and interdistrict transfers.   Naming of Facility at Whitney High School Ad Hoc Committee   The Naming of Facility at Whitney High School Ad Hoc Board Advisory Committee will review Board Policy; Memorials: AR 7310, to determine if a memorial at Whitney High School to honor Mr. Robert Beall, former ABC administrator, can be established as per the conditions outlined in the Board-approved item.  Board Advisory Committees Revised May 5, 2026 It appears you don't have a PDF plugin for this browser.
