Our beloved branch opens after a 16-month renovation that included a 1,000-sq-ft expansion that adds about 50% more space, including a children’s area and a new literacy center, which includes a classroom and tutoring rooms. The facility also has a new roof, upgraded electrical and mechanical systems, an outdoor reading garden, and is fully accessible for all Altadena. Join us for our official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the branch on Saturday, August 16 at 10 a.m. Local elected officials, community partners, members of the Bob Lucas family, and library leaders will commemorate the historical importance of this library on the west side of Altadena and the vision for how it will support the community as it rebuilds. Tribal councilwomen of the Gabrielino/Tongva Nation will start the ceremony with a prayer and land acknowledgment. Following the ceremony, we invite Altadenans of all ages to stop by from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a community celebration with music, food, face painting, crafts, and fun! You can also explore the expanded and updated facility, which opens for regular hours on Monday, Aug. 18. About the Program If you participate in the Homebound Delivery Service program, you agree to allow the library to maintain a Reading History Log of the materials delivered to you. This log will be used internally only (and never publicly) for the sole purpose of ensuring that we don’t deliver duplicate materials to you. Staff will drop off materials at the door; they will not enter the home. Material delivery and pickup will be made on Wednesday morning, only to the address on file. Materials will be dropped off in a weatherproof, labeled tote bag. Homebound Delivery Service Materials Materials that may be borrowed include books, magazines, audiobooks, laptops, and hotspots, CDs, and DVDs. Materials will be checked out for a maximum of three (3) weeks. To return items early, call for a pickup. You may select your own materials by placing them on hold through our catalog. Otherwise, the library staff will select materials based on your preferences provided in the request form. We reserve the right to assess fines/discontinue service if borrowed items are damaged/not returned in the same condition as they were delivered. Payments for lost or damaged materials must be made over the phone with a credit card prior to the next scheduled delivery. Staff members will not accept payment for fines at the time of delivery. Conditions of Delivery To participate in the Homebound Delivery Service, you agree to provide a safe and appropriate environment for our staff members to make deliveries to your home and that you protect all library materials in your possession.
