As with most projects, the exterior materials should be complimentary to the home and its materials & style.  To play off the aged brick veneer and color of the stucco, I selected an 'Antique Ivory Brick' by Glen Gary and set it in a herringbone pattern.  Since the interior flooring of the home was comprised mostly of Terra Cotta tile, I selectedthe 'Spanish Cotto' 6" x 13" from Walker Zanger as a banding, stairs, and veneer material on key features. These two materials provided the contrast in color and texture we were looking for, while also matching the home quite well.  Overall, this design incorporates multiple fountain features, a cozy courtyard highlighted by a quaint fireplace with accent walls, rear yard BBQ counter next to a dining patio under covered loggia, an infinity spa, and several patios for small gatherings. The Clients love their exquisite outdoor environment and have enjoyed it on a daily basis since its installation. From the wide relatively shallow rear yard to the fuel modification restrictions, the design layout had to be carefully considered. A few design highlights include: An infinity and perimeter overflow pool, a three sided infinity spa, large putting green, multiple seating patios, covered patio structure, cook center and bar seating. Even if they are not able to articulate their thoughts in a design orientated manner, the Client intimately knows what is important to them and they all have desires to how they would like to enjoy their new outdoor environment.   So a good designer must check their ego at the door and not overly push their own personal desires or agenda onto the Client and their design.   The direction of each of AMS's customized design is directed by the Clients wants, goals, and of course budget.  Therefore, AMS Landscape Design Studios cannot be defined by a single landscape style. My job is to understand how my clients want to live and create a partnership with them. This partnership, and excellent communication, ensures that the design and all related components and spaces are customized for the client down to the last square inch. A rustic stone veneer is used throughout the entertainment pavilion, fireplace and the spa. This provides a natural ambiance that is juxtaposed to the refinement of the recessed plasma TV within the pavilion, elegant granite cook center counters and the pool's accent limestone center water feature. The large specimen oak trees, privacy plantings and accent pottery finish out this incredible renovation. The Cabana has a luxurious restroom and shower, with an elegant changing room that even has personal lockers for guests to use! Also included under the roof of the Cabana is a large dining room, an opulent cook center, and a quaint fireplace room with optimum views of the ocean and coastline. In addition to coordinating contractors and overseeing the construction and installation of landscaping, AMS can provide referrals to expert gardeners, landscape maintenance firms, and arborists to assure the continued health and beauty of the plantings.  To each landscape concept, Drew Sivgals and his design team bring extraordinary vision, creativity and experience. After he earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Drew has traveled and studied extensively in Europe and Australia, continually expanding his knowledge of both historic and contemporary design. He spent a year in Australia completing courses at the University of Canberra and graduate level courses at the University of Melbourne. Drew was also awarded an internship with Walt Disney Imagineering where he worked on a variety of theme park projects, including Tokyo Disney Seas and Disney’s California Adventure. Additionally, he has worked on large commercial and custom home developments and community master planning projects such as Turtle Ridge and Playa Vista.
