Real people. Real help.
A fresh approach to therapy and counseling.
Axis is here to change and challenge what therapy has meant and who it’s been available to.
Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health offers therapy grounded in professional ethics, clinical skill, and a deep respect for the importance of the therapeutic relationship. Research consistently shows that one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy is the sense of fit between a client and their therapist, and we take that seriously.
Because of this, we believe it’s important for you to have a real sense of who we are and how we work. Our clinicians do not practice from a model of personal invisibility. Clinical experience and research both show that thoughtful presence and authenticity support strong therapeutic relationships. Our clinicians get that and identify themselves in ways that are personal, genuine, and still respectful and committed to all of the ways that therapy is all about YOU.
As a practice in clinical integrity and a commitment to high standards of care, we consistently work to reduce practical and systemic barriers that can make mental health care difficult to access or harmful. Our commitment is to provide thoughtful, humble, engaged, and professionally grounded therapy in a setting where clients feel respected and supported.
We do not separate ethical care from the social and environmental conditions that shape mental health - ignoring real-world conditions does not make therapy neutral, it makes it incomplete.
Get in touch with us to set up a consultation, or use the contact form at the bottom of this page to inquire whether our services are right for you.

Areas of Practice
THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS
Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives and relationships that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and then work towards them.
THERAPY FOR RELATIONSHIPS, COUPLES, AND FAMILIES
Relationship counseling is a process through which people (who may be engaged, dating, married, partnered—or sometimes even parent and child or other pairings) works with a trained therapist to identify specific areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change, and then develops a plan of action to improve each individual’s satisfaction and contentment. This approach is also the foundation for family work.
THERAPY IN GROUPS
We offer group therapy and counseling that is both supportive and investigative. Group work give clients the benefits of many minds working on the same problems in safe, non shaming environments.
Contact us for more information.
RETREAT PROGRAMS
Axis Mundi offers retreat and ritual programs that are for groups of 6 -12. These retreats are designed to help clients "unplug" from the day-to-day grind of the world, and reconnect to the quiet, still, voice within. They take place in beautiful, natural environments, and can be tailored to the groups' needs.
TRAINEESHIPS & ASSOCIATESHIPS
Axis Mundi offers a very limited amount of internship placements to new clinicians who meet our standards of excellence and values, via invitation. For information, please email

Axis Mundi Center is a home to the Game-Changers, the Misfits, the Rebels, the Vanguard, the Activists, the Disrupters, the Leaders, and the Ne’er Do Wells. We’ve made a study of Belonging and what that means, and have come to notice that the ones who have struggled the most to fit in are often the best therapists out there…and that fits in just fine, here. “Watch carefully… the magic that occurs when you give a person enough comfort to just be themselves.” ~ Atticus The House and Home of Axis Mundi Center: We are generally disarrayed, partially costumed, and in love with the questions more than any answer. We endeavor to break the box of our own thinking, to shake our own roof while we shake up this system, and to move from a deeply considered Ethos reflective of our values of Care, Dignity, Compassion, Justice, and Belonging. We are Pleasure and Belonging Activists. We look out for the Greater Good, not the Bare Minimum. We are invested in you and your dreams. We acknowledge that even under a singular roof there are many ways to be at home and we’re excited to explore them all. We know that excitement and fear are kind of the same thing. We believe in the yes-until-no and understand this means messes are inevitable, rupture is real, repair happens sometimes, and to every good cause there is consequence and collateral damage. We grieve and we celebrate all our mistakes. We offer a private practice philosphy-of-mind within an ecology of like-minded therapists who believe that the best thing we can do for our clients, ourselves, and our world is to become radically self-aware and compassionate critical thinkers. We promote the active inclusion of social justice in our work with clients and commit to multiple annual trainings that develop our own awareness of bias, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression. We believe in the on-going contribution to the lineage of mental health providers, and do what we can to support the clinicians both ahead of us and behind in a variety of ways. Clinicians at AM often aren't therapists only. They teach, speak, volunteer, do post-graduate learning, start their own businesses and non-profits, partner with other organizations that have similar causes for concern, and train others. Sometimes they have large caseloads, sometimes not, depending on how they wish to develop professionally. Axis Mundi isn't dedicated to turning out therapists only - it's dedicated to the personal and professional development of its members far beyond their identities as therapists and counselors. We want to know your dreams for healing at all levels, from the self to the world, and we want to invest in that with you. Benefits of the Axis Mundi model: A “private practice” model and training ground that helps you to create a business that you may take with you, if and when you decide to leave the agency, with hours that count towards licensure accrual. The flexibility to work where you choose. A variety of supervision arrangements that are diverse and open to your choice and schedule. Support in building a business in therapy and counseling, and coaching to assist in that process - from the legal and ethical considerations to marketing efforts. A community of badass people who care deeply about contributing to the world beyond the therapy room. Support in potentially developing beyond the therapy world, as guided by your own path and calling. Training opportunities that address many of the cultural competency deficits in many graduate programs. Support for licensing endeavors from paperwork questions and processes to study aids. Still interested? Axis Mundi offers a limited amount of placements to qualified trainees and associates who have similar values and concerns, are interested in building a practice that accrues hours towards licensure, and have the determination and perseverance necessary to do it (because it isn't easy). We believe training placement, like the therapy relationship, needs to be the right fit for everyone involved to promote success . (If it turns out that we're not right for each other, we'll do what we can to help you find what is!). We offer these placements by invitation only and are currently full . Because of our limited capacity, we will be offering invited candidates placement in small cohorts quarterly. Due to the variable nature of program completion, we cannot guarantee a timeline for openings. Hiring Process : We hire in a cohort model , and open the hiring process for one or two cohorts per year depending on agency needs and resources, one in Spring (March start) and one in Fall (Sept start) . *If you are in dire need of a placement or something urgent has come up that threatens your hours or status, you may still reach out to onboarding inquiries and we will assess our capacity and rightness of fit on a case by case basis. **WE ARE CURRENTLY ONLY HIRING A FALL 2025 COHORT OF TRAINEES THIS YEAR ** We have an open house that we require folks to attend if they are interested in applying to AM for any given cycle. After the open house, if AM still feels like a fit, folks will be invited to apply through our application process . Please do not send us any materials (CVs, letters of recommendation, etc) until you are officially applying. If you are interested in applying and being informed of future open houses, please fill out this google form . Make An Appointment Therapy and Counseling for individuals Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, heal from traumas, identify aspects of their lives and relationships that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and then work towards them. Telehealth therapy is a method of offering individual therapy via HIPAA-compliant platforms virtually. For many, including those with mobility issues or people who are located in rural areas, this is far more accessible than traditional in-person therapy. However, clinicians are still bound to the laws of the state in which the client currently resides. At Axis Mundi, we are able to offer telehealth services to clients located in the State of California. People seek therapy for a wide variety of reasons, from coping with major life challenges or childhood trauma, to dealing with depression or anxiety, to simply desiring personal growth and greater self-knowledge . A client and therapist may work together for as few as five or six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s unique needs and personal goals for therapy. How to start? Your first step is to contact us to schedule your initial appointment. You'll be asked to provide some information over the phone to help evaluate if we're your best match (our highest priority). You may then be scheduled for a free, initial 30 minute evaluation session which provides an opportunity for you to build rapport with the therapist and provide them with some background about yourself and the issues you're interested in working on. This is the time to see if you feel comfortable with the therapist, and can envision yourself working together. In addition, the therapist will be able to answer your questions regarding services, fees, confidentiality and what to expect in therapy. Therapy and counseling for relationships, couples, and families Relationship and family counseling is a process through which a couple (who may be engaged, dating, married, partnered—or sometimes even parent and child or other pairings) works with a trained therapist to identify specific areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change, and then develops a plan of action to improve overall satisfaction and contentment. This is the same strategy applied to families, as well. Working with a therapist in a safe and confidential setting , couples and families are able to explore how their individual backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors may be impacting their relationship in both positive and negative ways. Couples and families today often have multiple cultural and generational gaps and differences to navigate, and Axis Mundi clinicians are aware of how important this is to address. The therapist may assist the couple or family with addressing any immediate and pressing problems, as well as developing strategies for protecting and enhancing the long-term health and happiness of the relationship. How to start? Your first step is to contact us to schedule your initial appointment. You and your partner/partners/family members will be asked to provide some initial information over the telephone to help us evaluate a good match. You'll then be scheduled for a free, 30 minute evaluation session which provides a chance for you to assess the fit between you and the therapist. In addition, the intake therapist will be able to answer your questions regarding services, fees, confidentiality and what to expect in therapy. We are interested in developing a collaborative relationship with you in which we try to decide together what kind of treatment would be best for you; if it's not us, we'll provide referrals to other clinicians we believe might be a good fit! Make An Appointment Make An Appointment groups and therapy Group therapy is a process through which a small group of people (generally six to ten) meet face-to-face with a trained group therapist to talk about a particular issue with which all of them is struggling—such as grief/bereavement, anger management, eating disorders, living with chronic depression or anxiety, recovering from childhood sexual abuse, or about an issue that they are all interested in exploring - like mindfulness, the Enneagram, and enhancing intimacy. Under the direction of the group therapist, members share and explore their feelings and behaviors, hear different points of view and coping strategies, and receive encouragement from others facing similar issues. Group therapy provides participants a powerful opportunity to share and learn from others in a safe and supportive environment while working toward healing and change. Interested in joining one of our groups? Call us for more information! retreats Retreat programs are a little different. These are structured excursions that occur outside in beautiful natural environments like the Sierra Nevadas, or the Santa Cruz mountains. They usually last at least 4 days, and often include combinations of the therapeutic use of silence, meditation, yoga, kayaking, and swimming. They are led by therapists with years of outdoor experience, and who are also trained in the use of ecopsychology. The purpose is to regain a sense of connection to the natural world, and to reconnect to the sense of one's self while limiting the distractions of the plugged-in world. They are usually group experiences, organized around a theme that has been determined important by all the members. Some examples include: Intention-Setting for New Times in Life, Creativity and Women, Relax/Unplug, and Mindful Disconnect. My style is relational, flexible, humorous, and grounded in the belief that we heal in relationship. I am a full person and reject the model of the “blank slate” therapist. In our work together I will meet you where you are and support you in reacquainting you to you, with all parts of yourself, including your inherent wisdom. I strive to practice from a feminist and anti-oppressive lens and might invite you to use art, narrative, and body-based practices to help express, re-member, and integrate seemingly disparate parts of yourself. The longing pulls us to find our place, whether it's finding home in our identity, in our body, in our relationships, in this world, or even home in this timeline and plane of existence. I won't be able to tell you where home is or even what it looks like, but I will be with you to build, cross, or burn the bridges necessary to reaching home. Licensed Clinician, Telehealth and Office in Berkeley/Albany area. JACE LAWA, LMFT #141215. I believe in the deep inner wisdom of our bodies and souls. As we move through the world, our access to this wisdom can become distorted, wounded, smudged, held out out of reach by messages we pick up and carry about ourselves of who we "should be" or what we "should do" and by the harms we weather. Our inner wisdom is our own personal map to reconnecting to our life force, feeling whole, and thriving in our bodies, relationships, and communities and we can learn to hear it again. Thresholds is a part of Axis Mundi Ecotherapy. Ecotherapy recognizes our innate need to be connected, to feel a part of something much larger than our individual human selves, and to know ourselves as wild, authentic, archetypal and deviant beings who move in this life, as all beings move in this life, through and with the elements, seasons, moods of the earth. Ecotherapy acknowledges the animacy of all and the role of human life in the larger earth body. Why Rites of Passage? Rites of Passage are ceremonies and rituals that attend to movement through developmental phases. Throughout human history, peoples from all over the world have attended to Rites of Passage in many ways, however, our modern western society has largely neglected these important moments and transitions. Renewing the importance of Rites of Passage fosters growth individually and communally. Thresholds aims to connect us with the larger collective seasonality of life through recognizing and attending to developmental aspects of individual, social, cultural, and ecological identity. Why Wilderness? Nature offers the sacred healing that allows us to more fully experience our senses, drop into our bodies, and let go of toxic anxiety and stress tied to primal disconnection; to access the seeds of our neurosis through noticing, intuiting, and breathing; to connect, restore, and deepen. We see that we are capable and connected. Stepping into wilderness opens up an inner faith, a faith in ourselves, in each other, and in the earth, to hold us, to be enough, to be all we need. This is healing. “Wilderness” refers to natural areas not significantly changed by humans and at least 2 hours from emergency medical assistance. All therapists and guides in the Thresholds program are certificated Wilderness First Responders. Thresholds Journeys On Thresholds journeys, we explore our place, ourselves, our limits and edges, how we got here, and what it is to be here. We wander through the wilderness and our psyches. We travel through the four directions, seasons, developmental life phases, hero's journey.... We hike, camp under the stars, sit around campfires, swim in wild waters, filter all our water and cook good food together. We ground in morning practice, physical exertion, and evening council. Thresholds journeys are not just backpacking trips, we ask you to deeply reflect and connect, to explore yourself and your place in this world, to participate in interdependence, to be open to physical, spiritual, and psychological inquiry. We meet at a public park on day 1, attend to gear needs, sever our ties with city life, and carpool out to our trailhead. Each day following we stick to a routine of waking with the sun, morning practice, breakfast and check-ins, packing gear, hiking, lunch, hiking, making camp, cooking and eating together, council around the fire, and sleeping under the stars. We rotate elemental tasks, embodying interdependence, and providing for group care around water, food, protection, and discovery. In the second half of our journey, we offer a solo ceremony: time spent alone on the mountain. You will be prepared for ceremony when it happens. There is no previous backpacking experience necessary to join this journey. We cater our journeys to the needs and abilities of participants. Accessibility Thresholds therapists and guides value inclusion and strive for accessibility for all, and at this time, wilderness journeys require a mostly able body. Attention should be given to indicators that someone may NOT be a good fit: access needs that can't be met without cell signal, electricity, running/potable water sources, flushing toilets, easy proximity to nearby hospitals/ERs/emergency contacts, sensation triggers access needs that can't be met in rocky, wet, uneven terrain comfort needs that can't be met by the environment (sensation management, insects, temperature, access to modern conveniences, introversion/extroversion) little to no experience with natural environments. This isn't a "toe in" experience, it's more of a "up to the waist" kind of depth of nature immersion. little to no therapy history, outside the traditional frame. Clients especially, who may be expecting traditional therapeutic frames and boundaries may not be a good fit for this. Your guides are therapists and/or WIlderness First Responders who have guided for years. We will attend to group needs and hold the therapeutic container. And, this is a journey filled with risk. We will ask you to be vulnerable, and to be careful. We will ask you to take many risks, and to not take any unnecessary risks. No previous experience is necessary. All journeys are sober. If you have prescription medications or medical conditions, please attend to those as you would normally, and speak frankly with your guides about your needs. [email protected] 510-992-3968 Telehealth Only Supervised by Natalie Webster, LMFT #126065 Hello, Miss No Gray here. Why do I call myself Miss No Gray? I’m so glad you asked. When you mix black and white together, you get gray. Many people live in the “gray areas” because they don’t want to face their truth. Words like maybe, sometimes, pretend, make-believe, or “it’s complicated” are how questions are answered instead of saying yes or no. I consider myself a “root” therapist because, as adults, we are the tree to our childhood. So what’s in your roots? We cannot change past events; we can only change the impact that the past events have had on us. I’m here to support you as you discover the strength already inside you because YOU MATTER. Taking the time to read about me lets me know you are ready to begin this healing journey. So let’s remove those “roots” so those life’s weeds will never return to your garden. The journey won’t be easy, but I’m with you every step of the way! I leave you with this quote that sums up what I believe… “I want you to get excited about who you are, what you are, what you have, and what can still be for you. I want to inspire you to see that you can go far beyond where you are right now.” — Virginia Satir WES Rothstein, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist # 143345

Equity. Compassion. “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for…” ~ June Jordan therapy THAT REsists locating the problem solely inside the individual or reinforcing the very conditions people are struggling to survive. Training & Community for like-minded clinicians. Programs that meet community defined needs. Service that prioritizes ethical and equitable treatment, with dignity as a guide. What We’re All About… Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health is an attempt to answer a call. We live and practice in a time of social strain, division, collapse, and fracture. Therapy that ignores this does not serve clients well. Axis exists to offer a practice of counseling that meets people where they are living and to train clinicians capable of doing the same. Our commitment is not only to the clients we serve, but to the careful formation of clinicians who can meet this moment with humility, skill, and responsibility. We commit to doing this work radically and rigorously, we remain accountable to clients and to each other, and we aspire to stop protecting approaches that no longer serve. Axis Mundi is a sanctuary for clinicians who refuse to accept forms of therapy that are shaped more by convenience and by systems protecting themselves, than by real care. We opened our doors in 2016 as a small group of clinicians frustrated by and unwilling to contribute to models of practice that asked clients—or clinicians—to ignore the realities of their lives. We formed Axis in response, with the conviction that therapy can be practiced with greater honesty, depth, collective care and social responsibility. Axis was built to examine itself and the field, revise its methods, and respond to what the work requires rather than what feels comfortable. The Fit: At Axis, rightness-of-fit is not a preference. It is a responsibility. That’s our focus and our guide, at all levels of the organization. That means things are a little different over here! For example: Our consultations and intakes assess the overall best fit for the client - that might mean the therapist in the consultation, it might mean someone else in the agency, it might mean someone at another organization. We’re dedicated to applying our network of information to ultimate client well-being. We also trust that staff are more fit to certain needs and roles than others, and this is something that can change often and over time. AM work culture norms are about role fluidity, creative resource applications, and wise response…not about fixed expectations and identities. Culturally, we believe that those who are here now are those who are fits for the times. History and Context: Responsibility without action is insufficient. Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health practices within a national and local history that did not begin with the institutions we now inhabit. The land on which our offices operate carries histories of displacement and dispossession that remain present rather than resolved. Our central offices are located in what is now known as Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Piedmont, Emeryville, Albany, and San Francisco—on the unceded territories of the Lisjan Ohlone people, including the Chochenyo and Ramaytush communities. We understand this history as an ongoing responsibility, not a symbolic statement. Practicing responsibly requires acknowledging how past and present harms shape current conditions, and refusing to treat those conditions as abstract or irrelevant. This awareness informs how we think about care, accountability, and repair. Practice, Power, and Responsibility: Ethical therapy requires more than good intentions. It requires structures that do not reproduce harm. The mental health field has not been neutral in its development or application. Historically, it has defined wellness, illness, and disorder in ways that reflected prevailing power structures, rewarded conformity, and pathologized responses to harm rather than the conditions producing it. Axis takes this history seriously. We understand that when therapy locates distress solely within the individual, it risks functioning as a system of regulation rather than care. Our work is grounded in the responsibility to distinguish between personal suffering and the effects of unequal, coercive, or harmful conditions, and to refuse clinical approaches that collapse that distinction. We are invested in a movement toward collective freedom and healing, in which actions furthering systemic change are a necessary part of mental health work. We are committed to forms of therapy that do not treat survival as evidence of defect, nor adaptation to harm as pathology. Mental health work, as we practice it, includes attention to the broader conditions shaping well-being and a refusal to reduce complex human responses to individual failure. This responsibility extends beyond individual clinical encounters to the formation of clinicians themselves. Axis prioritizes ongoing learning, accountability, and structural reflection in how clinicians are trained, supervised, and supported, recognizing that ethical practice requires continual examination of how power operates within care. This work is ongoing and never done . When dominant systems define distress as individual failure, they conceal their own role in producing harm. We aren’t down with that. Axis understands ethical mental health care as a continuous process of learning, reflection, and action. We are committed to examining how harm is reproduced within care, revising our practices accordingly, and building structures that better support the people we serve. This responsibility shapes both our clinical work and how we train, hire, and support clinicians. To this end, we: stand unequivocally against any racialized or ethnically-targeted harm that has well-documented impacts on mental health outcomes. explore creative options for increased accessibility and equity in our therapeutic services approach hiring and supervision with attention to representation hold a curious but accountable space for discussions about historical intergenerational trauma, and/or conditions that consistently advantage some while constraining others provide training and supervision that help clinicians examine how power and authority operate in care and reduce the risk of harm in therapeutic relationships home | about | services | clinicians | contact Notice of Privacy Practices (510) 463-4123 |

[email protected] Erica (they/she) is part of the lovely Onboarding team, that is largely the landing pad of the org. They feel alive in the sweetness and shared labor of welcoming new clinicians aboard the Axis Mundi pirate ship. They find meaning, play and tenderness in the awkward/eager/eyebrow-raising moments of first experiences in group dynamics. They orient towards working in collaboration with others, both as a self-identified differentiating twin and lifelong student of soccer. At their best they’re working on an art project, getting their hands dirty or moving through a good book slowly over a cup of chai or matcha. They co-lead new clinicians at the agency through a sometimes boring sometimes exciting learning process of Axis culture and the larger systems we all must adhere to, in service of client and community care and accountability. They often find themselves oscillating between the solace and sludge of the macro micro realities of life. They are privileged and humbled to be a part of a becoming process in a work setting with other like minded humans which in turn, shapes their own continued growth and development. onboarding inquiries and coordination | Olivia trevino

Equity. Compassion. Different Ways of Helping. Therapy cannot free people from the systems they must live within. What it can do is help people survive those systems without turning the cost inward as self-blame. [email protected] TELEHEALTH Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493 Hello! Welcome to my profile. I appreciate you being here and commend your bravery for considering therapy, whether that is with me or not. I practice therapy from a postmodern, queer, and liberatory approach that is trauma-sensitive, focusing on resilience and strengths. I believe in creating relationships that are largely client-led, as no one understands the reality you live in better than you. We are the stories we tell ourselves, and together, we can work to transform your social reality by decoding the world you live in through various lenses, while strengthening the roots of who you are and where you want to go. Through our passionate partnership, you can learn how to keep and express your feelings in ways that align with who you are. If you are interested in what we can create together, please reach out. Therapy is a journey, and I would love to begin one with you. Riva Szostkowski MFT TRAINEE in practicum AT UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO
[email protected] TELEHEALTH, ECOTHERAPY IN BERKELEY & OAKLAND Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493 I take a relational approach to therapy, meaning that I believe that deep healing happens in connection: between therapist and client, with ourselves, our families and communities, and the natural world. [email protected] 510.629.9995 TELEHEALTH ONLY Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493 It’s okay to be exactly who you are. It’s also okay to not be. With so many competing expectations — from society, family, our trauma responses, and even our therapists — we can often feel pushed to quiet parts of ourselves for the sake of others. And depending on who we are and what situations we’re in, it's sometimes even safest to do so. Yet, every time we do, it has the potential to negatively impact our lives (while simultaneously supporting our survival). So how do we liberate ourselves within the dynamic between our own unique experiences and identities, and societal expectations? No matter how your personal experiences and identities might diverge from what society expects of us, I want to collaborate with you to create a safe therapeutic container as a temporary autonomous zone. A therapeutically safe space that invites you to step into the fullest version of yourself, while receiving unconditional positive regard not only from me, and hopefully/eventually also within yourself. [email protected] TELEHEALTH ONLY Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493 We are relational beings who often ask ourselves to do the hardest things alone. Allowing ourselves to be helped and witnessed in our challenges is a very tender and brave act, and is the catalyst to our healing. My approach as a therapist is rooted in the connection we establish and the deep reverence I have for your vulnerability and your courage, honoring you wherever you are at each time you show up. Today's culture values conformity and productivity over authenticity and presence. In the safe space of your therapy sessions we can explore what shows up when you slow down and connect with yourself on a deeper level. It is often both our pains and our joys that have not had space to express themselves because our world asks us to only show up somewhere in between. Together, we can create a space where every part of you is welcomed, giving what has been quiet or hidden the chance to breathe and be held lgbtq+ counseling — Axis Mundi Center for Mental Health Therapy and Counseling Services Home about axis our staff our mission annual reports services Cost and Contact programs Therapists of Color lgbtq+ Non-Monogamy Neuroaffirming Ecotherapy Thresholds Rites of Passage Therapists Meet Our Clinicians Trainees in Practicum 1st Year Associates 2nd Year Associates Senior Associates and Licensed Clinicians Practice With Us donate ☎ (510) 463 - 4123 Therapy and Counseling Services Home about axis our staff our mission annual reports services Cost and Contact programs Therapists of Color lgbtq+ Non-Monogamy Neuroaffirming Ecotherapy Thresholds Rites of Passage Therapists Meet Our Clinicians Trainees in Practicum 1st Year Associates 2nd Year Associates Senior Associates and Licensed Clinicians Practice With Us donate ☎ (510) 463 - 4123 lgbtq+ counseling talk to someone who gets it Tired of having to explain things to your therapist? Nature offers the sacred healing that allows us to more fully experience our senses, drop into our bodies, and let go of toxic anxiety and stress; to access the seeds of our neurosis through noticing, intuiting, and breathing; to connect, restore, and deepen. We see that we are capable and connected. Stepping into wilderness opens up an inner faith, a faith in ourselves, in each other, and in the earth, to hold us, to be enough, to be all we need. [email protected] As a Holistic and Transpersonal therapist, I hold that there is no separation between our bodies, minds, hearts, and spirits. Because there is no separation, the “whole” person needs to be considered and treated. The integration of these multiple dimensions of the self leads to healing and increased health and wholeness, which translates to living a better life –one that is more balanced and authentic, and you can feel free to be and express who you are in this world, and share your own amazing gifts. I know that you are so much more than what or who you might believe yourself to be. As we explore the complexities of what it means to be human and to have a body on this earth, you will be working towards reclaiming your personal power and personal freedom in life. This is so that you can connect with your unique purpose and experience those things you love to do. PABLO MARTINEZ, MA. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #113991 510-779-2460 |

[email protected] The first step to finding your way is often becoming lost. You may be struggling with despair, addiction, isolation, fragmentation from who you are and who you are destined to become. These do not have to be the end of the path, but rather the beginning of profound awakening and joy. We can use times of crisis to do more than cope and survive. I am a guide who has traveled these paths. I am called to help you through these processes with compassion, love, and with full awareness of the complexity and strangeness of becoming. I am versed in queer, alternative, and neurodiverse ways of being. Let’s explore the weird liminal space! LAUREN COHN-FRANKEL, MA. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #125406. 510-550-5854 |
[email protected] Empathic, clear, and calming, Lauren’s belief in the healing power of relationship informs their therapeutic practice as much as their deep concern for social justice. A background in fine art, along with their degree in Somatic Psychotherapy , helps them bring both creativity and grounded-ness to their work with clients; work which incorporates the body, mind, and heart. Lauren is attuned to the ways in which trauma, stigma, and self care interact - particularly with clients who experience oppression due to gender, sexuality, race, substance use, disability, mental illness, and others . Therapy with Lauren is a process of exploration, defining, understanding; learning to see what is missing and what is needed, and making room for the self’s natural wisdom and capacity for healing to take over. [email protected] 925-388-6089 Telehealth only, open to clients anywhere in California Supervised by Natalie Webster, LMFT #126065 Do you ever feel caught between worlds? Do you struggle to connect with a sense of play? Do you ever wonder about your story? Are you going through big life transitions and feel that you are wanting to make sense of who you want to become, or to connect with resilience in the midst of change? As a queer, bilingual, transnationally raised Latin American immigrant clinician, I am deeply passionate about working with anyone who struggles with feeling stuck “in between” - places, communities, identities - anyone who has felt “outside,” and anyone who is trying to make sense of relocation, displacement, or transition. I’m a relational, neurodiversity affirming clinician that enjoys bringing a narrative, attachment-focused approach to anyone who wants to get curious about rewriting their story, claiming their desire, and embracing their truth. I especially love working with people from all walks of life who want to explore their gender identity, gender role and sexual orientation, with immigrants and children of immigrants, with people who identify as mixed-race and people from blended families, with artists and community organizers, and with transplants to California. Above all, I believe in staying curious and present as a witness to your journey. Sarah Aldamigh Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #149604

As an Arab immigrant, I understand the challenges of navigating multiple worlds and not feeling fully at home in any. My goal is to help you reconnect to a sense of belonging that feels true to you. In therapy, I honor your autonomy and uniqueness, offering a warm, nurturing, and direct approach. Together, we'll explore your inner world with kindness, building a relationship with your breath and body to access the wisdom within, moving at a pace that feels safe and supportive. I specialize in working with clients from marginalized identities, including Arab, Muslim, queer/trans, non-monogamous, immigrant, and BIPOC individuals. Mara K. [email protected] 424.243.5182 TELEHEALTH, IN PERSON (los angeles), ecotherapy Supervised by Elysha Martinez, LMFT #93493 I live my life in accordance to seasons and cycles. I am a pro at change, finding grounding in new environments, connection when it is possible, home in many ways. I am comfortable in the in-between space, the messy, the both/and. Together, we can strengthen these skills of knowing who you are, so that you show up in a way you can stand on everywhere you go. I am a pleasure activist. I convene with Spirit daily and ground in artistic expression. I like to include somatic practices, plant(cestors), altar building, ritual into session if moving in that way feels aligned to you. I recognize the deeply spiritual work of healing, the Indigenous roots of many of these practices, and how our individual healing journeys are always connected to our ability to integrate what we learn. I bring transformative justice, play, psychedelics, connectivity to integration mapping, so you stay in therapy only as long as you need to. Connecting with joy and purpose are often stops along the way to healing in my therapy room. Brannon Reid Lewis Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #150612

Is there a part of you that you struggle to understand or are ashamed of? I welcome all of the sensitive, weird, and messy parts that you hold and will walk with you through the wilds of your life. I believe that everyone is capable of changing the stories they tell, and that doing so can bring relief and help people find connection with themselves and others. As a therapist, I prioritize a collaborative and relational approach to my work, emphasizing your unique strengths, interests, and relationships as we explore your stories together. I’m an Integrative Gestalt therapist who serves individuals and couples with relationship conflicts, childhood trauma and systemic wounding. You may have never had the chance to figure out what you want and need — this might show up as anxiety, depression, difficulty forming or keeping relationships or feelings of unworthiness. You’re struggling with feeling stuck and are ready for something different. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy, or you are taking another step on your therapy journey, I want to acknowledge and celebrate the time that you are taking to support yourself. Therapy can be a place to give breathing room to the pain and challenges that you may be holding. Together we can explore and address what needs healing so you may experience the ease and health that you deserve. CECILIA USSHER Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #147639

Our clinicians get that and identify themselves in ways that are personal, genuine, and still respectful and committed to all of the ways that therapy is all about YOU . [email protected] (510) 463 - 4123 Areas of Practice Therapy for individuals Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives and relationships that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and then work towards them. Therapy for relationships, couples, and families Relationship counseling is a process through which people (who may be engaged, dating, married, partnered—or sometimes even parent and child or other pairings) works with a trained therapist to identify specific areas of conflict and/or aspects of their relationship they would like to change, and then develops a plan of action to improve each individual’s satisfaction and contentment. This approach is also the foundation for family work. therapy in groups We offer group therapy and counseling that is both supportive and investigative. Group work give clients the benefits of many minds working on the same problems in safe, non shaming environments. They take place in beautiful, natural environments, and can be tailored to the groups' needs. traineeships & associateships Axis Mundi offers a very limited amount of internship placements to new clinicians who meet our standards of excellence and values, via invitation. For Treatment Payment, or Health Care Operations: Federal privacy rules (regulations) allow health care providers who have direct treatment relationship with the client to use or disclose the client’s personal health information without the patient’s written authorization, to carry out the health care provider’s own treatment, payment or health care operations. We may also disclose your protected health information for the treatment activities of any health care provider. This too can be done without your written authorization. For example, if a clinician were to consult with another licensed health care provider about your condition, we would be permitted to use and disclose your person health information, which is otherwise confidential, in order to assist the clinician in diagnosis and treatment of your mental health condition. Disclosures for treatment purposes are not limited to the minimum necessary standard, as therapists and other health care providers need access to the full record and/or full and complete information in order to provide quality care. The word “treatment” includes, among other things, the coordination and management of health care providers with a third party, consultations between health care providers and referrals of a patient for health care from one health care provider to another. Lawsuits and Disputes: If you are involved in a lawsuit, we may disclose health information in response to a court or administrative order. We may also disclose health information about your child in response to a subpoena, discovery request, or other lawful process by someone else involved in the dispute, but only if efforts have been made to tell you about the request or to obtain an order protecting the information requested. III. CERTAIN USES AND DISCLOSURES REQUIRE YOUR AUTHORIZATION: Psychotherapy Notes. We do keep “psychotherapy notes” as that term is defined in 45 CFR § 164.501, and any use or disclosure of such notes requires your Authorization unless the use or disclosure is: a. For our use in treating you. b. For our use in training or supervising mental health practitioners to help them improve their skills in group, joint, family, or individual counseling or therapy. c. For our use in defending ourselves and this professional corporation in legal proceedings instituted by you. d. For use by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to investigate my compliance with HIPAA. e. As required by law and the use or disclosure is limited to the requirements of such law. f. As required by law for certain health oversight activities pertaining to the originator of the psychotherapy notes. g. As required by a coroner who is performing duties authorized by law. h. As required to help avert a serious threat to the health and safety of others. Marketing Purposes. As psychotherapists, we will not use or disclose your PHI for marketing purposes. Sale of PHI. As psychotherapists, we will not sell your PHI in the regular course of business. IV. CERTAIN USES AND DISCLOSURES DO NOT REQUIRE YOUR AUTHORIZATION. For public health activities, including reporting suspected child, elder, or dependent adult abuse, or preventing or reducing a serious threat to anyone’s health or safety. For health oversight activities, including audits and investigations. For judicial and administrative proceedings, including responding to a court or administrative order, although my preference is to obtain an Authorization from you before doing so. For law enforcement purposes, including reporting crimes occurring on my premises. To coroners or medical examiners, when such individuals are performing duties authorized by law. For research purposes, including studying and comparing the mental health of patients who received one form of therapy versus those who received another form of therapy for the same condition. Specialized government functions, including, ensuring the proper execution of military missions; protecting the President of the United States; conducting intelligence or counter-intelligence operations; or, helping to ensure the safety of those working within or housed in correctional institutions. For workers' compensation purposes. Although my preference is to obtain an Authorization from you, we may provide your PHI in order to comply with workers' compensation laws. Appointment reminders and health related benefits or services. We may use and disclose your PHI to contact you to remind you that you have an appointment with me. We may also use and disclose your PHI to tell you about treatment alternatives, or other health care services or benefits that I offer. V.
