We provide a safe and comfortable environment where your pup will learn to build lifelong social skills. The younger and shyer pups get their own protected area to explore safely. Then, when they are ready, they can join the more confident group in the adjoining space (we call it the rowdy room). Under our constantly watchful eyes, puppies learn how to build healthy relationships with one another. Socials are a great way for puppies to enjoy interactions with other puppies and their people while burning off energy! Early socialization is critical for your pup’s development. According to the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s (AVSAB) Position Statement on this topic: “In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. They should be kept up to date throughout the class.” If you are concerned about the risk of outdoor exposure while your pup in still receiving his vaccine series, we encourage you to carry your pup to and from your vehicle when you attend our socials. Socials will be closed when registration reaches capacity Bring your pup’s vaccination records to the first social. If you do not bring them, we cannot admit your pup into the social Your pup must be in your home for at least 10 days before his or her first social Your pup must have a minimum of one set of Distemper/Parvo vaccines and the first deworming at least 10 days prior to the first social and should be kept up-to-date on vaccines thereafter We are strongly recommending to vaccinate against Canine Flu for all dogs. Canine Influenza virus H3N2/H3N8 (CIV) starting at 8 weeks of age, then again 3 to 4 weeks later Socials are for young pups to enjoy themselves, NOT for working on aggressive behaviors. If your pup is not having a good time and/or is upsetting other puppies you will be asked to leave. We simply do not want your pup’s behavior to get worse at the social or frighten other puppies! Using reward-based, modern methods, our skilled and highly educated instructors guide you in this Level 1 basic class to set the foundation for a lifetime of learning and understanding. We cover all things puppy! We meet for 50 minutes, once a week for five weeks. Each class builds upon the skills learned in the prior class. For young puppies: Pup must not be older than 18 weeks at the FIRST class in order to attend. If older, begin with our DOG1 class. We agree with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s (AVSAB) Position Statement on this topic: “In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of distemper/parvo vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. Class Skills Include Basic Obedience – sit, down, stay, come, leash skills. Manners – jumping, don’t touch, drop it, calm down. Social Skills – with other pups, with humans, build confidence in a variety of settings, prevent aggression. Distraction Skills – learns to focus and work in a group setting. All Things Puppy – nipping, chewing, house training, and how to deal with these issues in a positive way. We want you to succeed! We provide detailed homework for you to practice your newly learned skills before the next class. The more you practice, the better for you and your pup! Requirements & Information Puppies should receive a minimum of 1 set of distemper and parvo vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. Proof of vaccinations are required, and should be kept up-to-date throughout the class. If your puppy is 16 weeks or older, rabies vaccination must be scheduled or already completed. Puppies need to be in your home at least 10 days prior to attending class. This is for the health and safety of all our puppy students. If your puppy has been in your home less than 10 days, you can attend the first class without your pup and then practice at home with the detailed homework we provide. No need to delay training! We recommend, but do not require, vaccination against Canine Flu for all dogs: Canine Influenza Virus H3N2/H3N8. Please consult your veterinarian. Puppy must be between 9-18 weeks of age at the first class. If older than 18 weeks: enroll in a DOG1 class! Please review our Refund Policy prior to registration. Make-up classes : See our FAQ Section. Is this Drop-In or Weekly? Our classes meet once a week for 5 weeks; these are not drop-in, as each class builds upon the skills learned the class before. What if my puppy is older than 18 weeks? Enroll in our DOG 1 class! For older puppies and and a pre-requisite for our level 2 classes. Puppy MUST be between 8 to 18 weeks old at the first class. All the pups need to be within the same developmental time frame. After 18 weeks your puppy is entering their teenage years, with adult teeth, jaw strength and attitude! How many are allowed to attend the class? Maximum two adults per class for our Pet Food Express locations. All other locations allow more than two students, so bring the family! REMOVAL FROM TRAINING: The Trainer, at his/her sole discretion, may remove a pet from class if a hazard or threat of any nature to any other animal or person is present. No refund will be given under such circumstances. REFUNDS/TRANSFERS/CLASS CANCELLATION: Please be considerate and understanding of our policies. We limit enrollment in order to provide quality instruction and to maintain safety in our classrooms. We appreciate your understanding that once you have reserved a spot we agree to hold this spot for you in which case it is made unavailable to other students. Refunds: The following criteria must be met for us to consider a refund. All refunds are subject to a $35 non-refundable processing fee. We are unable to provide a refund if you cancel your enrollment within five business days (Mon-Fri: 9a-5p) of class start date. Even if you cancel within five business days, a refund (less a mom-refundable $35 processing fee) is issued  IF and ONLY IF we can fill your spot. We put forth our best effort but cannot guarantee a refund. If you cancel with ample time to fill your spot, we will refund minus the $35 processing fee.  Once class has started, we regret that a refund or direct transfer is not available if you decide to cancel or transfer to a different class. If your dog is feeling unwell, we encourage you to attend class without your dog and then practice at home during the week. We will provide a comparable training video for your review. I hereby authorize BravoPup, LLC, hereafter referred to as “BravoPup” to publish photographs or videos taken of me and my puppy, as well as my name and likeness, for use in the BravoPup’s print, online and video-based marketing materials, plus other Company publications. I hereby release and hold harmless BravoPup from any reasonable expectation of privacy or confidentiality associated with the images specified above. I further acknowledge that my participation is voluntary and that I will not receive financial compensation of any type associated with the taking or publication of these images or participation in company marketing materials or other Company publications. All other locations allow more than two students, so bring the family! Why 18 weeks of age to start? At 18 weeks a pup is entering their teenage years, with adult teeth and jaw strength. They might still have their puppy energy, but is it not appropriate or safe to train teenage puppies with the toddlers in our PUP1 class. What to Bring Current vaccination records. Lots of bite size treats. Stuffed Kong or Bully Stick for dog to chew on during calm time. Portable dog bed. Standard flat collar or a front clipping harness, plus a 5 or 6 foot, standard leash (check our Resources page for ideas.) Is this Drop-In or Weekly? Our classes meet once a week for 5 weeks; these are not drop-in, as each class builds upon the skills learned the class before. We want you to succeed! We provide detailed homework for you to practice your newly learned skills before the next class. The more you practice, the better for you and your pup! What if my dog is Fearful or Very Shy around people? Is your dog shy and fearful around people? Are you unsure if an in-person class will be too stimulating or stressful for your dog? If yes, we suggest our live, online “ Life Skills for Shy/Fearful Dogs. ” This popular, live, online class will help you slowly bring your dog out of their shell to begin enjoying time with other dogs, or happily accompany you on a walk. What if my dog Lunges, Barks or Growls at other dogs while walking On Leash? If you are experiencing difficulty walking your dog due to these behaviors, our live, online “ Leash Reactive ” class is the place to start. A reactive dog is not appropriate for an in-person class until these issues are addressed. We teach skillful handling of your leash-reactive dog, along with environmental awareness and management for a more relaxing experience while out on walks. Learn to read your dog’s body language so you can respond BEFORE they react. What if my dog is a Bully with dogs? Have you not been able to socialize your dog during these covid times and are wanting to do so, but taking your dog out is too stressful for you and them? Learning how to “read” your dog’s body language in order to build their confidence is the way to go. We suggest our live, remote “ Frolic or Fight “ class. This is an essential class for all dog owners to learn how dogs communicate and play. Now that you’ve got a solid foundation, we can get going on more complex issues! We limit enrollment in order to provide quality instruction and to maintain safety in our classrooms. We appreciate your understanding that once you have reserved a spot we agree to hold this spot for you in which case it is made unavailable to other students. Refunds: The following criteria must be met for us to consider a refund. All refunds are subject to a $35 non-refundable processing fee. We are unable to provide a refund if you cancel your enrollment within five business days (Mon-Fri: 9a-5p) of class start date. Even if you cancel within five business days, a refund (less a mom-refundable $35 processing fee) is issued  IF and ONLY IF we can fill your spot. We put forth our best effort but cannot guarantee a refund. If you cancel with ample time to fill your spot, we will refund minus the $35 processing fee.  Once class has started, we regret that a refund or direct transfer is not available if you decide to cancel or transfer to a different class. If your dog is feeling unwell, we encourage you to attend class without your dog and then practice at home during the week. We will provide a comparable training video for your review. PHOTOGRAPHS/VIDEOS: We love taking pictures of your puppy during class or at puppy socials! We occasionally post to social media or put them up on our website. I hereby authorize BravoPup, LLC, hereafter referred to as “BravoPup” to publish photographs or videos taken of me and my puppy, as well as my name and likeness, for use in the BravoPup’s print, online and video-based marketing materials, plus other Company publications. I hereby release and hold harmless BravoPup from any reasonable expectation of privacy or confidentiality associated with the images specified above. I further acknowledge that my participation is voluntary and that I will not receive financial compensation of any type associated with the taking or publication of these images or participation in company marketing materials or other Company publications. Meet our team The Bravo!Pup Team Sandi Thompson CTC, CPDT-ka Sandi Thompson is the founder and owner of Bravo!Pup LLC, which she launched in 2008 to bring state-of-the-art dog training and socialization activities to East Bay dog lovers. BravoPup’s mission is to engage dog owners in positive reinforcement training through group classes that are entertaining, effective, and taught by the most qualified team of instructors in the area. With over 25 years of training education and experience, Sandi is personally recommended by both veterinarians and leaders in the field of canine behavior. Her dynamic teaching style and easy-to-understand lessons have produced multiple generations of positively trained dogs as well as happy owners. Sandi started her animal training career as a 12-year-old volunteer at the Oakland Zoo where she cared for a variety of exotic animals and taught sign language to the chimpanzees. After graduating from college, Sandi began training dogs and puppies professionally for Sirius® Puppy Training where she taught classes for two decades and became their lead trainer. She is an honors graduate of the San Francisco SPCA’s prestigious Academy for Dog Trainers as well as one of the first trainers in the US to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). She is a charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and has coached numerous trainers in the art and science of dog training. In recognition of these and other accomplishments, Sandi was named the APDT National Trainer of the Year in 2006. Sandi’s media appearances include Animal Planet, CNN, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Amazing Animals in Japan, and Fine Living Network (HGTV). She is also the co-inventor of KongTime, an award winning product designed to reducing anxiety in home-alone dogs. Sandi resides in the Berkeley hills with her dogs Siam Sam and Turtle. She enjoys hiking, climbing, and adventure travel. Her travels have taken her throughout Southeast Asia to observe wildlife and spend time with tribal people. She has also visited Rwanda, Uganda and Borneo where she fulfilled her childhood dream of trekking with mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans in the wild. In recent years, Sandi completed an internship at the Oakland Zoo and continues to volunteer time, including raising and training the zoo’s ‘ambassador dog’, a Golden Retriever named Lily. Anna Carlson CPDT-ka, CTC Anna caught the “training bug” at the age of seven, when she discovered Sandi Thompson’s puppy training classes. She attended Sandi’s classes religiously twice a week (without a dog!) from age seven through eleven and continues under Sandi’s mentorship. During that time she also began volunteering at local animal shelters and started a neighborhood dog walking business. Shelter dogs hold a special place in Anna’s heart and she has volunteered at several shelters/rescues including SFSPCA, Berkeley Humane, and BACS. Prior to joining the BravoPup team, Anna worked in the training department at Guide Dogs for the Blind. She has devoured books about dogs and training ever since she was able to read and continues her education as a member of the internationally-renowned Academy for Dog Trainers. Anna also has a background educating people. She spent five years teaching English as a Foreign Language in Madrid, Spain, and six years as a naturalist/wilderness guide in Alaska. Anna is fascinated by the interspecies relationship held between dogs and humans and our ability to communicate with one another. She loves that pet dog training allows her to work with both dogs AND people- and to be a part of teaching people how to better understand dog behavior and learning. Her teaching philosophy is that learning should be a fun and revelatory process for both humans and dogs, and emphasizes positive, science based methods. Anna shares her life with her “foster failure” Eeva (a German Shepherd mix), her partner Simmons who is a fly fishing guide, and their newborn daughter Emilia. She enjoys mountain biking, trail running, backpacking, camping, learning languages, and travel. In addition to two years living in Germany and five years living in Spain, Anna has spent extended periods of time traveling, including 8 months living on a farm in Brazil, and visits to Antarctica, India, Turkey, several countries in South America, and multiple cross country road trips in the US. Nicole Peisl​ CTC, CBATI-KA Born and raised in Austria, Nicole graduated from the Academy for Dog Trainers in 2023 and is a newly welcomed member of the BravoPup training family. She assisted classes with all BravoPup Trainers in 2021/22 and since 2023 teaches puppy and adult classes. In addition she offers private consults. Nicole comes to dog training after a career in dance, performance, teaching and choreography. She danced for years professionally in Europe with the Ballet Frankfurt and the Forsythe Company and holds a PhD in Performance Studies from UC Davis. Nicole believes deeply in the power of embodied practices that support and make change visible. She brings this commitment to her work with dogs, and people who love dogs. It is her love for her German Shepherd Mix Charlie, a rescue, and the support of some very extraordinary and dedicated dog trainers that has brought her on this fascinating path. Katy Becker CTC Katy Becker teaches a range of puppy and adult dog classes for Bravo Pup as well as providing private consults. She loves to help her human students gain the skills and confidence to get the behaviors they want from their dogs while also enjoying the unique bond they share with their canine companions. Katy is a veteran class instructor with over seven years teaching experience at Sirius Puppy and Dog Training. She also spent nine years as a handler and supervisor at Citizen Canine, the East Bay’s premier doggie daycare and boarding facility where she gained experience with dogs of all different shapes, sizes and breeds. Details & Requirements Do I need to wait until my puppy has all shots before starting class? Nope. We agree with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s (AVSAB) Position Statement on this topic: “In general, puppies can start puppy socialization classes as early as 7-8 weeks of age. Puppies should receive a minimum of one set of distemper/parvo vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. They should be kept up to date throughout the class.” Our training areas are sanitized for the health and safety of all our puppy students so you can Train!Play!Love! early on and in a safe environment. Class Skills Include Basic Obedience – sit, down, stay, come, leash skills. Manners – jumping, don’t touch, drop it, calm down. Social Skills – with other pups, with humans, build confidence in a variety of settings, prevent aggression. Distraction Skills – learns to focus and work in a group setting. All Things Puppy – nipping, chewing, house training, and how to deal with these issues in a positive way. We want you to succeed! We provide detailed homework for you to practice your newly learned skills before the next class. The more you practice, the better for you and your pup! Requirements & Information Puppies should receive a minimum of 1 set of distemper and parvo vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first de-worming. Proof of vaccinations are required, and should be kept up-to-date throughout the class. If your puppy is 16 weeks or older, rabies vaccination must be scheduled or already completed. Puppies need to be in your home at least 10 days prior to attending class. This is for the health and safety of all our puppy students. If your puppy has been in your home less than 10 days, you can attend the first class without your pup and then practice at home with the detailed homework we provide. No need to delay training! We recommend, but do not require, vaccination against Canine Flu for all dogs: Canine Influenza Virus H3N2/H3N8. Please consult your veterinarian. Puppy must be between 9-18 weeks of age at the first class. If older than 18 weeks: enroll in a DOG1 class! Please review our Refund Policy prior to registration. Make-up classes : See our FAQ Section. Is this Drop-In or Weekly? Our classes meet once a week for 5 weeks; these are not drop-in, as each class builds upon the skills learned the class before. What if my puppy is older than 18 weeks? Enroll in our DOG 1 class! For older puppies and and a pre-requisite for our level 2 classes. Puppy MUST be between 8 to 18 weeks old at the first class. All the pups need to be within the same developmental time frame. After 18 weeks your puppy is entering their teenage years, with adult teeth, jaw strength and attitude! How many are allowed to attend the class? Maximum two adults per class for our Pet Food Express locations. All other locations allow more than two students, so bring the family! What to Bring Current vaccination records. Lots of bite size treats. Stuffed Kong or Bully Stick for pup to chew on during calm time. We sharpen up the skills you learned in PUP1 and tackle new ones. Higher level obedience is introduced such as heeling, placement commands (“go to your mat and chill out”), stays with mild to extreme distractions, distance commands and more. Private Training The At-Home Training Solution With private lessons you and your dog have the undivided attention of a professional BravoPup trainer. We focus exclusively on your goals, teaching you how to effectively work with your dog. Private sessions last an hour and are highly customized with expert client coaching and written follow-up reports. Training can be in your home, in an outdoor setting such as a park, or both, depending on your individual needs. We offer individual sessions or a variety of training packages, depending on the needs of your dog. Who Private Training is For? Dog parents wanting to work on a specific issue. Dog parents who are unable to participate in a group class due to schedule constraints. Dogs who are inappropriate for group classes due to their behavior. Dog parents who prefer one-on-one coaching from a qualified professional. Getting Started The first step is to fill out our Private Training Intake Form. From there we will refer you to one of our trainers and you will be on your way! Scheduling and payment for privates is through the trainer, not on the website. Your trainer will start with a 60-90 minute Initial Behavioral Evaluation to gain a full understanding of your dog’s behavior issues and training goals. Then, they will recommend a training plan and an appropriate training package to help you achieve those goals. Step #1: Private Training Intake Form. What We CAN Help You With Our trainers are highly skilled and experienced in many areas of dog and puppy behavior. From preparing you to bring home a new puppy to needing help with a dog that is fearful, leash reactive, excessively barking, jumps and pulls on leash and everything in between, we can help. What We CAN'T Help You With We regret that we are not able to offer in-person private training for dogs that have the following behaviors: Dog to dog aggression. Good for situations where you just need a little help or fine tuning. 4-Pack $550 We coach you with your dog once a week for an hour for 4 weeks. This is the DIY (Do It Yourself) package: We teach. A good choice if you want to expand on skills learned in class, such as recall or polite leash walking. 8-Pack $1100 We coach you and your dog twice a week for 4 weeks. Meet our team The Bravo!Pup Team Sandi Thompson CTC, CPDT-ka Sandi Thompson is the founder and owner of Bravo!Pup LLC, which she launched in 2008 to bring state-of-the-art dog training and socialization activities to East Bay dog lovers. BravoPup’s mission is to engage dog owners in positive reinforcement training through group classes that are entertaining, effective, and taught by the most qualified team of instructors in the area. With over 25 years of training education and experience, Sandi is personally recommended by both veterinarians and leaders in the field of canine behavior. Her dynamic teaching style and easy-to-understand lessons have produced multiple generations of positively trained dogs as well as happy owners. Sandi started her animal training career as a 12-year-old volunteer at the Oakland Zoo where she cared for a variety of exotic animals and taught sign language to the chimpanzees. After graduating from college, Sandi began training dogs and puppies professionally for Sirius® Puppy Training where she taught classes for two decades and became their lead trainer. She is an honors graduate of the San Francisco SPCA’s prestigious Academy for Dog Trainers as well as one of the first trainers in the US to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). She is a charter member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and has coached numerous trainers in the art and science of dog training. In recognition of these and other accomplishments, Sandi was named the APDT National Trainer of the Year in 2006. Sandi’s media appearances include Animal Planet, CNN, Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Amazing Animals in Japan, and Fine Living Network (HGTV). She is also the co-inventor of KongTime, an award winning product designed to reducing anxiety in home-alone dogs. Sandi resides in the Berkeley hills with her dogs Siam Sam and Turtle. She enjoys hiking, climbing, and adventure travel. Her travels have taken her throughout Southeast Asia to observe wildlife and spend time with tribal people. She has also visited Rwanda, Uganda and Borneo where she fulfilled her childhood dream of trekking with mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans in the wild. In recent years, Sandi completed an internship at the Oakland Zoo and continues to volunteer time, including raising and training the zoo’s ‘ambassador dog’, a Golden Retriever named Lily. Anna Carlson CPDT-ka, CTC Anna caught the “training bug” at the age of seven, when she discovered Sandi Thompson’s puppy training classes. She attended Sandi’s classes religiously twice a week (without a dog!) from age seven through eleven and continues under Sandi’s mentorship. During that time she also began volunteering at local animal shelters and started a neighborhood dog walking business. Shelter dogs hold a special place in Anna’s heart and she has volunteered at several shelters/rescues including SFSPCA,
