Spotlight Previous Spotlight Item Bradley Wheeler, 2023 LARAEC's Innovation Awardee for Kinesthetic Language Learning - Bradley Wheeler, Culver City Adult School ESL Teacher, was awarded the 2023 Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium's Innovation Award for Kinesthetic Language Learning. Throughout his classes, Teacher Brad creates multiple opportunities for students to engage in meaningful dialogue and movement as they learn English. His classes are dynamic as he facilitates participatory and interactive simulations, presentations, student-generated videos, role-playing, and hands-on projects and competitions. Students also use shared apps to practice and improve their skills in English as they post information and videos and provide feedback to one another on English grammar and sentence structure. He inspires students to speak, listen, read, and write in fun, memorable, and purposeful ways. We celebrate his commitment to adult learners by furthering students’ language learning. - Dr. Cardenas Teacher Aaron Mendelson, awardee of 2023 LARAEC's Innovation Award for Flipped Learning and Student Empowerment: Aaron Mendelson, Culver City Adult School ESL Teacher, was awarded the 2023 Los Angeles Regional Adult Education Consortium's Innovation Award for Flipped Learning and Student Empowerment. He integrates many edtech tools into his lessons, including the use of Google Suite apps for his students, empowering them with much-needed 21st-century digital literacy skills. He has continued to use Flipped Learning to prioritize active, reciprocal learning in his classroom, and many of the student-created Flip videos have inspired other teachers to explore technology in the classroom. We are celebrating his work publicly to not only acknowledge his hard work, but also to highlight the importance of social studies education in our adult learning community. Teacher Aaron’s recent achievement in receiving the Award for Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice from the California Council of Social Studies is also outstanding. His dedication and contributions to the field of English as a Second Language education are truly commendable. Teacher Aaron has consistently demonstrated exemplary leadership and innovation, engaging students and fostering critical thinking skills. His passion for language learners is evident in his commitment to excellence, and he serves as an inspiration to educators across our district. - Dr. Cardenas Culver City Adult School is honored to welcome Superintendent Dr. Alfonso Jimenez. His inspiring remarks reaffirmed our shared mission. Together, we are dedicated to ensuring a successful year filled with growth, achievement, and opportunity for every CCAS student. As a result of this comprehensive review, CCUSD has made major investments in LCAP initiatives such as Inclusive Practices, Educational Equity, Elementary Counseling, Elementary Arts Instruction, Instructional Coaching, Makerspaces, Technology, Infrastructure, and Mental Health.   After review and careful consideration of stakeholder feedback, the district has designed actions to further support our three district goals and eight state priorities: LCAP/Budget Presentation (June 2021) .   Parents, staff and students were invited to review the proposed actions and provide feedback, and suggestions from stakeholder input were incorporated into the final version, which was approved at the June 22, 2021 Board of Education meeting.   Stakeholders that would like to have more detailed information can review the Culver City LCAP document which includes attachments outlining our progress toward our goals. This document is also used by principals to inform stakeholders and elicit their input on ideas for next steps in improving our instructional program and environment for students.  At each school site, representative stakeholders on the School Site Council use the LCAP to create goals and actions in the Single Plan for Student Achievement (also known as the Single Plan, or the SPSA).   To review the document, please click on the following link: 2021-2022 CCUSD LCAP     Para revisar el Plan de Control Local del Distrito Unificado de Culver City, haga clic aquí:  LCAP espanol 2021-2024 CCUSD LCAP Partner Engagement Advisory Committee Based on feedback from our educational partners, it was determined that partner input would be more productive and meaningful when discussed collaboratively as a whole rather than in separate partner engagement meetings.  With the understanding that hearing from different groups broaden perspectives and help to inform discussions, CCUSD has established an LCAP Partner Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC includes a representative group of members that includes: school administrators, parents representing all sub-groups, teachers, PTA/Booster/CCEF leadership, Bargaining Unit leadership, district administrators, classified staff, board members, and students.  PAC meetings are open to all that are interested in participating. Such complaints must be filed no later than six months after knowledge of the alleged discrimination was first obtained.   For more information regarding complaints, please click here to access the District's Uniform Complaint Procedures.   The district person to contact is:             Angela Elizondo Baxter, Ed.D.             Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services             4034 Irving Place Culver City, CA  90232 (310) 842-4220 x.4213             See Board Policy 5145.7 for more detail BP 5145.7 A do p t e d: F e b r u a r y 3, 1998 BP 5145.7 Re vis e d:  Dece mb e r 9, 2014 BP 5145.7 R e vi ewe d: N ov e mb e r 1 2 , 2019 Ed Services Family: Homepage Ed Services Contact Information Academic Behavior Dual Language Immersion and Pathway to Biliteracy Early Reading Screener FAQs (K-2) English Language Development GATE Nondiscrimination Statement Social and Emotional Learning Special Education Technology Support Uniform Complaint Procedures and Williams Complaints School Accountability Report Cards (SARC) Sustainability at CCUSD Title IX Staff Culver City Unified School District 4034 Irving Place Culver City, CA 90232 Phone: (310) 842-4220 Edlio Login Social Media Facebook Twitter Powered by Edlio Footer Links CCUSD is committed to nondiscrimination of all individuals in education. Show All News Planet 2 Planet 3 Rocket Knowledge El Rincon is the only elementary school in the Culver City School District to have wet & dry science labs equipped for hands-on discovery and ready for the Next Generation Science Standards. Young scientists visit the lab on a two-week rotation for guided instruction. In the lab, students engage in a variety of activities, learning what it is like to be a scientist, botanist, engineer, and they even get to dissect living specimens. The lab supplements classroom instruction in a space where our young scientists create models of structures that can withstand hurricanes, tsunamis, and earthquakes. Students learn about weather and currents, monitor climate change, and see into the tiny world of microscopes. Click here to find out more! Learn More About Science Discovery With the help of the Culver City Education Foundation (CCEF), El Rincon has it's very own Arts & innovation Lab! The Arts & Innovation lab is a hands-on problem solving place. Like professional engineers, students will use their knowledge, experience and imagination to solve problems, testing and reworking their solutions until they are satisfied. Away from textbooks and worksheets, they will learn practical lessons in math, physics, computer science, engineering and even business. During the first trimester, students learn about foundational art skills. During weekly 45 minute classes, basic visual art and engineering design skills will be introduced or reviewed. Trimester two is where students learn about expanding tools and challenges. During class, digital tools will be introduced and explored; fundamental skills will be combined or elaborated. Students will engage with grade-specific technologies, like the simple robots resembling bees that will introduce TK and Kindergarten students to coding. The students will use pushbuttons on the bots to create programs that make the bees move in specific ways. Later they‘ll move to a digital programming interface. Trimester three is time for creativity unleashed. Students will combine experiences and skills into integrated projects. Students will use what they’ve learned over the course of the year to create projects and solve problems. They may be asked to identify a problem and then think about how they might build something that would address that problem. Older children might even align with a local non-profit. The results will be solutions of their own invention for problems they want to address. As the students work together they won’t just learn about math, physics and computer programming. They’ll learn how to discuss problems and solutions, how to work together as a team, how to learn from one another, and how to appreciate and make use of their diverse ideas, skills and experiences. And they will be learning all of this amazing stuff while having a blast! Click here to find out more! Learn More about Makerspace Creation At El Rincon we are putting the "A" in STEAM with many different arts programs on campus including music, choir, dance, drama and storytelling. Symphonic Jazz Orchestra is a Culver City based non-profit teaching in-class music residencies to elementary schools throughout L.A. County. The program has been at El Rincon for several years in grades K-3. Last year, we were excited to add a 5th grade "Music of the World" program. Dedicated teachers, Mr. Knight and Ms. Koplinka-Loehr, direct the Grades 1-2 and Grades 3-5 choirs respectively. Students learn performance skills and develop a love for vocal music. There are several concerts throughout the year where students perform for classmates, teachers, parents and the community. Young Storytellers engages creativity through the art of storytelling. Using the timeless techniques of mentoring, collaboration, and performance, we provide public school students with an opportunity to write stories and see them brought to life on stage and film. Their mission is to inspire young people to discover the power of their own voice. Culver City Unified School District’s Front & Center Theatre Collaborative provides CCUSD with TK-12th grade theatre arts curriculum. The Collaborative is a unique partnership that brings together teaching artists from professional theatre groups with local funding partners to create an unparalleled collective impact – the highest concentration of theatre arts programming per student in any Los Angeles County school district. We also bring PTA programs like Red Ribbon Week and Reflections to our local schools. Along with opportunities for schools and members to apply for Grants and Awards . CCCPTA supports our local PTA/PTSA units in the mechanics of running a large, dynamic organization, so that they can focus on the needs of the students at their school sites, creating events and raising money for field trips, equipment, planners, garden and nutrition programs, library books, special assemblies and countless other items. Council PTA also links the local units to the California State PTA and the National PTA. Known for its site based fundraising, events and programs benefiting children at schools across the nation, PTA is the nation’s largest and most powerful children’s advocacy group. When you join a PTA unit, you are not only helping the students at that school, you are strengthening PTA’s ability to advocate for children and families at the local, state and national levels. Members of Culver City PTA units can learn to be effective advocates while finding out about current issues in education and child welfare by joining Culver City Council PTA’s Sacramento Safari delegation. We’ll be in Sacramento February 15-17, 2022. CCCPTA sponsors the Backpack for Kids program that enables CCUSD students who would otherwise not have enough to eat on weekends to take a backpack filled with food home with them every Friday of the school year. As of November 2016, 0ver 100 backpacks were being filled every week. You can donate to Backpacks for Kids simply by sending a check to CCCPTA and noting in the memo section that the contribution is for the Backpack program, or if you'd like to pay onl
