Our Fiscal Sponsorship program provides emerging initiatives, grassroots organizations, and social entrepreneurs with the ability to pursue their mission under the legal and tax-exempt status of CVNL. This service allows projects to receive charitable donations, apply for grants, and operate with confidence—without having to form a 501(c)(3) nonprofit immediately. What Is Fiscal Sponsorship? Fiscal Sponsorship is a formal arrangement in which CVNL, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, extends its legal and tax-exempt status to charitable projects aligned with our mission. It’s an ideal solution for new initiatives that want to start making an impact right away, test a concept, or operate temporarily without establishing a standalone nonprofit. Who We Serve Our Fiscal Sponsorship program supports: Startups and pilot programs seeking to test a model before incorporating Collaboratives and coalitions working toward shared goals Projects with time-limited scopes or seasonal activities Social innovators launching mission-aligned programs Community leaders with a vision, but not yet a formal structure Services We Offer Through Fiscal Sponsorship CVNL’s Fiscal Sponsorship program includes a comprehensive suite of services designed to help you succeed: Tax-Exempt Status Operate under CVNL’s 501(c)(3) umbrella to accept charitable donations and apply for grants right away, without waiting for IRS approval. Financial Management We provide expert oversight of your project’s finances, including budgeting, disbursements, income tracking, and financial reporting, ensuring transparency and accuracy. Compliance & Risk Management Your project benefits from our nonprofit compliance framework, including legal oversight, liability protection, and access to necessary insurance coverage. Donation Processing Easily receive, track, and acknowledge contributions through our secure systems—ensuring a smooth donor experience and proper documentation for tax purposes. Grant Administration Access support in applying for and managing grant funding. We assist with compliance, fund allocation, and required reporting. Back-Office Administration CVNL can manage select administrative tasks such as payroll processing and vendor payments, depending on your project’s scope and needs. Strategic Guidance & Nonprofit Expertise As a sponsored project, you’ll have access to our experienced staff and nonprofit resources to support your growth, planning, and mission delivery. How to Apply for Fiscal Sponsorship Step 1: Determine if CVNL is the Right Fit Consider the following: Will your project provide tangible benefits to your community? Is your idea and project plan embraced by a group of committed supporters? Do you have the sincere drive and enthusiasm to make your charitable ideas work? Can you quantitatively and qualitatively demonstrate the need for the services you intend to deliver? Can you identify strong funding prospects to help you move ahead? Can you articulate your goals and clearly express your plans to achieve them? Step 2: Submit a Completed Application to CVNL Prospective projects must submit an application (see the link to the application below). The application requires a project description and a start-up budget outlining the sources of revenue and projected costs for your proposed project over the next year. Click here to download the application . Email the completed application, and all supporting documents, to Lievin Mwamba, Director of Finance and Operations:
[email protected] . Step 3: Application is Reviewed by CVNL All proposals are rigorously reviewed by CVNL staff, board members, and community advisors. We then invite the leaders of projects that are strong candidates for fiscal sponsorship to meet with us, briefly present their projects, and answer questions. Final determination of sponsorship is made by the full board of CVNL. Current Sponsees: CVNL envisions a community engaged in positive change and transformed by service. This year, volunteers collected 4,356 pounds of trash and 135 pounds of recyclable beverage containers. Not only did volunteers prevent litter from flowing from Solano County’s waterways into the ocean, but they also helped contribute to California’s goal of an 80% recycling rate for all aluminum, glass, plastic, and bimetal beverage containers sold in the state. On Saturday, volunteers fanned out across sites in all seven cities in the county and collected a wide range of litter, from plastic bottles to discarded fishing line to a pile of tires. Many were equipped with trash pickers provided by the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership, burlap sacks for carrying trash provided by Moschetti Coffee, and fueled by Lara Bars provided by Sprouts Farmers Market, thanks to a donation from the Sierra Club of Solano County. Gaby Bermudez, Volunteer Services Manager with the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership, stated that “we are so proud to support and encourage volunteers to participate in Solano County’s Earth Day Cleanup. We enjoyed volunteering and contributing to keeping Solano clean and beautiful!” At the Andrews Park site in Vacaville, several groups came out to volunteer together, including employees from Amazon and Levi’s, and students from The Academy of 21st Century Learning. One volunteer, Tatiana, noted that “it’s really good to see so much of the community come out and clean the main park in town.” Volunteers Beth and Cindy at McGary Road in Vallejo were glad to be out helping and expressed how they liked to “give back to the community [they] love so much.” Human impact on our oceans starts here in Solano County if we don’t take action. Litter ends up in smaller waterways, like creeks, and can flow out into the San Francisco Bay, and eventually the Pacific Ocean, harming wildlife and damaging marine habitats. Events like the Earth Day Cleanup help prevent this negative impact. Residents of Solano County can also take action in their everyday life by picking up litter in their neighborhoods, recycling their CRV containers, and disposing of their pet’s waste properly. Over twelve years, Earth Day Cleanup volunteers have been responsible for collecting 65,241 pounds of trash and 2,631 pounds of recyclable beverage containers, making a major impact in caring for our planet. “This cleanup event really brings the community together. Businesses, schools, non-profits, community groups, and individuals want to see our waterways and open spaces clear of litter, and it’s amazing what an impact that collective action can have,” said Robyn Slater, Earth Day Cleanup Coordinator with Solano Resource Conservation District. Community members who want to participate in another cleanup this year can also gather at Lake Solano for World Environment Day on Saturday, June 6th. That event will focus on cleaning up Lake Berryessa, the county’s major drinking water source, as well as enjoying activities such as tours of the demonstration garden with Putah Creek Council and making wildflower seed packets to take home. Lunch will be provided to all registered volunteers. Learn more about these cleanups at cleanupsolano.org. Solano Resource Conservation District coordinates the annual Earth Day Cleanup in partnership with the Cities and County of Solano, Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District, Vallejo Watershed Alliance, Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District, Solano Land Trust, and volunteer site leaders. Additional support is provided by the Sierra Club Solano Group, Sprouts Farmers Market in Vacaville, the Center for Volunteer and Non-Profit Leadership, 95.3 KUIC, and the California Coastal Commission. Cleanupsolano.org provides up-to-date information all year long about countywide community cleanups organized through Solano Resource Conservation District: Earth Day Cleanup (April), World Environment Day Cleanup (1st Saturday of June), and Coastal Cleanup Day (3rd Saturday of September). ### About CVNL Since 1964, CVNL has advanced nonprofits and volunteerism by strengthening leadership, encouraging innovation, and empowering individuals in their communities. From foundational courses to advanced leadership development, our programs are designed to meet you where you are and support your journey in service. Workshop: Storytelling for Impact 2/19/2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM PT Workshop: Storytelling for Impact Thursday, February 19, 2025, 10 am - 11:30 am PST In a crowded and fast-moving landscape, strong storytelling is no longer optional: it’s essential. This practical, hands-on session explores how nonprofits can use authentic, audience-centered stories to strengthen fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement efforts. Participants will learn how to identify the stories that matter most, frame them with purpose, and translate impact into clear, compelling narratives that inspire action. Through real-world examples, guided exercises, and peer discussion, attendees will leave with tools they can immediately apply to donor communications, campaigns, grant narratives, and advocacy messaging. Learning Outcomes By the end of this session, participants will be able to: · Identify and shape high-impact stories that align with fundraising and advocacy goals · Apply a simple storytelling framework to turn programs and outcomes into compelling narratives · Tailor stories for different audiences, including donors, funders, policymakers, and the public · Strengthen calls to action so stories lead to engagement, support, and change · Draft or refine a story they can use right away in communications or campaigns Faculty Bio: Katelyn Willoughby Katelyn Willoughby is the Director of Marketing & Communications at the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership (CVNL), where she leads strategy across communications, storytelling, digital engagement, and brand. Executive Search & Placement Finding the best person for the job is our specialty We had a great experience working with CVNL. They took the time to get to know our agency, and the specific program we were hiring for. We knew we had a challenging position to hire for, and I felt reassured that CVNL would stick with us through the full process. The communication with the CVNL team was easy and consistent and trusted. With their expertise about candidates and the search process, we ultimately found someone we are very happy with. We would absolutely use CVNL again, and would recommend them for any agency who is searching. Stay Connected About 100MARIN Imagine the power of 100 caring hearts coming together to create real change. That’s the idea behind 100MARIN , Marin County’s premier giving circle. Founded in 2015 by passionate local business professionals, our mission is simple: to amplify impact through collective giving. Each year, our network comes together to pool donations and support outstanding Marin County nonprofits. Through this model, we maximize the power of individual generosity and directly invest in organizations that uplift our community. How It Works: Anyone in the 100MARIN network who makes an annual donation can nominate local nonprofits. Five nonprofit finalists are selected to share their stories at our Celebration of Philanthropy event. Attendees vote at the event, and the winning nonprofit receives the full donation fund. The remaining finalists each receive $1,000 to support their work. Since our founding, 100MARIN has awarded over $429,000 to 62 nonprofits , with hundreds of organizations nominated. Every dollar contributed goes directly to strengthening our community. Event Attendance & Participation: To attend the event, a $150 donation per person is required. This donation is 100% tax-deductible, all contributions are pooled together to create a collective fund that is donated to the selected nonprofit organization. By donating at least $150, you become part of 100MARIN and are eligible to attend the event for free. Key Points: $150 = 1 person attending the event. Your donation is fully tax-deductible. Your donations are pooled together to support a Marin County nonprofit. Sponsorship: 100MARIN sponsors are mission-aligned partners who help us deepen our reach and visibility. Your sponsorship supports our annual Celebration of Philanthropy event and ensures that 100% of all membership donations go directly into the pooled gift fund we award each year.
