We are hoping to resolve this issue with the County in the coming months but for the time being, Skye is not available until further notice. The structures were designed and built by San Francisco-born architect Igor Sazevich in 1971, and restored in 2020. Sazevich’s book , Time in my Coffee , is available in each cottage. The current owner, Rachel Hamilton, was a recent transplant to the Bay Area from New York when a friend took her to dinner in the magical town of Inverness. Rachel was so charmed by the beauty and tranquility of West Marin that she went home that night and did a search for available real estate in the area. In what felt like some sort of synchronicity, the Dancing Coyote property was on sale for the first time in decades, having just gone on the market the day before. Acting on instinct, Rachel took a leap of faith and became the steward of this special property. She has enjoyed looking after these unique cottages and this magical land ever since. Built in 1971 and lovingly restored in 2020, our cottages reflect the best of classic Northern California design – clean lines, groovy angles, and multiple windows that invite the light and landscape inside. Each space balances comfort with authenticity: wood-burning fireplaces stocked with logs and kindling; kitchens equipped for morning coffee, tea, and simple cooking; and McRoskey mattresses, handcrafted in San Francisco, for a restful night’s sleep. From each cottage’s private deck, Tomales Bay provides a grand display of nature, while inside, simple amenities create space to slow down, relax and savor the moment. What happened to Skye Cottage? We were informed by Marin County that due to a permit issue that predates our ownership of the property, Dancing Coyote may only rent out three cottages. This issue came out of the blue for us and we are saddened to have to suspend rentals of Skye Cottage. We are hoping to resolve this issue with the County in the coming months but for the time being, Skye is not available until further notice. Our Pet Policy At Dancing Coyote Beach, we understand dog love big time. We welcome well-behaved canine guests to join you in our Acacia cottage. A one time dog fee of $50 applies, with a limit of two dogs per cottage. For those seeking a pet-free environment, our Beach and Birch cottages maintain spaces exclusively for humans. You might experience five different varieties of weather in a single day; The morning might be warm and sunny and the afternoon might be windy and cool. It is rarely hot, and we rarely get a frost, so no extremes! All year round we have sun, fog, clouds, breezes and wind, and hopefully plenty of rain in winter. The weather typically cools in the evening so come prepared for fluctuations in weather. Think layers. You might want a cap, scarf, or even light gloves. Think rain gear for winter visits. Pack casual and good walking shoes. There is rarely a reason to dress up around here. Even the best of our restaurants are accustomed to locals and visitors in casual dress, although of course it’s also fine to step it up a notch for dinner out. Check out their website . Beaches on the Ocean The Point Reyes National Seashore is renowned for its 80 miles of shoreline. There are drive-to beaches, hike-in beaches, dog–friendly beaches, beaches for tide pooling and beaches where wood fires may be enjoyed with a permit. You’ll find all of those descriptions and details right here . ‍ Parking areas for all the ocean beaches are between 6-12 miles from Dancing Coyote Beach. Our favorite ocean beaches include Abbotts Lagoon, Drake’s Beach, Limantour Beach, The Great Beach, Kehoe Beach and McClure’s Beach. Please note: When visiting some of these ocean beaches, respect advisory signs for high surf and sneaker waves. There are also trails through the forest to and from the state park beaches, so you can combine hiking with a bay beach visit. Treasured local beaches include Chicken Ranch Beach, Shell Beach and Heart’s Desire Beach. Shell Beach requires a short downhill hike to access. Chicken Ranch Beach and Heart’s Desire Beach are drive-to beaches. Shell Beach and Heart’s Desire Beach are part of Tomales Bay State Park, while Chicken Ranch Beach is a county beach.
