Overnight Accommodations Our Overnight Resort acts like a pet hotel in San Jose and Palo Alto that provides a safe and comfortable place for dogs to curl up after a busy day of playing. We are all about providing a fun, clean environment for your pups, so you can have peace of mind while away! Our 24 Standard Rooms (20-25 sq ft) include comfortable, sturdy dog beds by Kuranda that keep pups off the ground while they rest. We encourage you to bring your pup’s favorite bed, blankets, or toys to have in their room. We also offer upgraded bedding (blankets and padded bed) in addition to the Kuranda as an add on service if requested. The flooring in our boarding area is coated with industrial epoxy to ensure a sanitary and clean environment, with climate control and HEPA air filtration system throughout. We also provide a variety of instrumental music for the dogs to listen to throughout the evening hours, which helps reduce the stress of being away from home. Boarding dogs participate in our daycare program during the day. Daytime activities include social time, mingling, and playing with other dogs. For this reason, we require new clients to attend at least 2 days of daycare prior to staying overnight with us. Some dogs may require more days based on temperament and comfort levels. During these visits, we work to help your dog become familiar with our environment and staff so they’ll feel comfortable whether you’re away for five hours or five days. If you need to drop off outside of the 7am to 7pm window, there will be an extra early/late drop-off fee. While most dogs enjoy playing and wrestling with other dogs, there are some that do not. Some dogs do not like to share toys or treats or are nervous around people. They may find daycare to be too stressful and would prefer to be in their own home environment. How a dog reacts at daycare depends on their socialization experiences. If you are unsure if daycare is right for your dog, we can discuss any concerns you have with you. What Makes a Great Daycare? Over the last few years, dog daycare has grown quite popular. However, not all daycares are created equal. Every daycare facility is designed and run differently. With so many choices, we want you to be informed when making your decision, and choose a facility in which you feel your dog will be safe and well cared for. It is important that you visit the facility and ask questions so you feel comfortable in your choice. Here are some questions to ask when checking out a daycare facility for your dog: How long have they been in operation? Downtown Dogs has been in operation for 26 years, opening in 1998. Downtown Dogs is under new ownership as of 2022, with a highly skilled and caring team dedicated to providing the highest level of dog services. What is the staff to dog ratio? Our staff to dog ratio varies based on the size, activity level, and personality of the dogs. We try to maintain a ratio of one dog handler to 15 dogs although this can vary. Our staff comes from a variety of backgrounds, but all have a common interest. They love dogs! All our staff members are required to complete a 20-course training program through The Dog Gurus and a minimum of two weeks hands-on training with our senior staff prior to being left alone with the pups in our care. Training includes orientation and covers topics such as learning theory, body language, group dynamics, appropriate play, and signs of stress. In addition, our dog handlers attend quarterly internal meetings to discuss pack dynamics, foster teamwork, and brainstorm activities for our clients. How do they deal with different dog personalities? We accommodate the various dog personalities by engaging them in Tiny Town, Dogsville , or, Ruff City where they can romp and wrestle, run back and forth, and play fetch. Some may enjoy a game of chase, racing around our playing structures, or jumping from slide to slide, while the older, mellow dogs just enjoy getting petted or brushed. The smaller guys have a room of their own to play in without the worries of a big paw. What is the daily routine? As soon as our furry friends arrive in the morning, we ensure they will have a blast! Our structured morning playtime includes lots of free time to run and burn off energy and a wide selection of toys and play equipment to keep them entertained. But it doesn’t stop there! We have many other fun activities such as bubble time, command practice, fort building, and agility challenges. By noon, it’s naptime! From noon to 2pm, our pups can recharge in their individual cozy crates. If you want to take it up a notch, you can check out our additional services offered during this time. Our Playgroup Leaders work directly with the dogs, supervising play groups. Staff are actively engaged with the dogs, working on obedience commands, managing group energy levels, and monitoring all dog activities. Other duties may include feeding meals, washing dishes, some dog bathing, general cleaning, and maintenance. This is an enjoyable job with dogs, but staff are not just here to “play with dogs.” We ACTIVELY monitor play and continuously practice commands with the dogs. While most dogs enjoy playing and wrestling with other dogs, there are some that do not. Some dogs do not like to share toys or treats or are nervous around people. They may find daycare to be too stressful and would prefer to be in their own home environment. How a dog reacts at daycare depends on their socialization experiences. If you are unsure if daycare is right for your dog, we can discuss any concerns you have with you. What Makes a Great Daycare? Over the last few years, dog daycare has grown quite popular. However, not all daycares are created equal. Every daycare facility is designed and run differently. With so many choices, we want you to be informed when making your decision, and choose a facility in which you feel your dog will be safe and well cared for. It is important that you visit the facility and ask questions so you feel comfortable in your choice. Here are some questions to ask when checking out a daycare facility for your dog: How long have they been in operation? Downtown Dogs has been in operation for 26 years, opening in 1998. Downtown Dogs is under new ownership as of 2022, with a highly skilled and caring team dedicated to providing the highest level of dog services. What is the staff to dog ratio? Our staff to dog ratio varies based on the size, activity level, and personality of the dogs. We try to maintain a ratio of one dog handler to 15 dogs although this can vary. Our staff comes from a variety of backgrounds, but all have a common interest. They love dogs! All our staff members are required to complete a 20-course training program through The Dog Gurus and a minimum of two weeks hands-on training with our senior staff prior to being left alone with the pups in our care. Training includes orientation and covers topics such as learning theory, body language, group dynamics, appropriate play, and signs of stress. In addition, our dog handlers attend quarterly internal meetings to discuss pack dynamics, foster teamwork, and brainstorm activities for our clients. How do they deal with different dog personalities? We accommodate the various dog personalities by engaging them in Tiny Town, Dogsville , or, Ruff City where they can romp and wrestle, run back and forth, and play fetch. Some may enjoy a game of chase, racing around our playing structures, or jumping from slide to slide, while the older, mellow dogs just enjoy getting petted or brushed. The smaller guys have a room of their own to play in without the worries of a big paw. What is the daily routine? As soon as our furry friends arrive in the morning, we ensure they will have a blast! Our structured morning playtime includes lots of free time to run and burn off energy and a wide selection of toys and play equipment to keep them entertained. But it doesn’t stop there! We have many other fun activities such as bubble time, command practice, fort building, and agility challenges. By noon, it’s naptime! From noon to 2pm, our pups can recharge in their individual cozy crates. If you want to take it up a notch, you can check out our additional services offered during this time. For example, your pup can indulge in one of our weekly treats, enjoy a stuffed Kong/Pupsicle, try our 1-on-1 enrichment activities, take a leisurely stroll, or be pampered with our grooming services. Our 24 Standard Rooms (20-25 sq ft) include comfortable, sturdy dog beds by Kuranda that keep pups off the ground while they rest. We encourage you to bring your pup’s favorite bed, blankets, or toys to have in their room. We also offer upgraded bedding (blankets and padded bed) in addition to the Kuranda as an add on service if requested. While most dogs enjoy playing and wrestling with other dogs, there are some that do not. Some dogs do not like to share toys or treats or are nervous around people. They may find daycare to be too stressful and would prefer to be in their own home environment. How a dog reacts at daycare depends on their socialization experiences. If you are unsure if daycare is right for your dog, we can discuss any concerns you have with you. What Makes a Great Daycare? Over the last few years, dog daycare has grown quite popular. However, not all daycares are created equal. Every daycare facility is designed and run differently. With so many choices, we want you to be informed when making your decision, and choose a facility in which you feel your dog will be safe and well cared for. It is important that you visit the facility and ask questions so you feel comfortable in your choice. Here are some questions to ask when checking out a daycare facility for your dog: How long have they been in operation? Downtown Dogs has been in operation for 26 years, opening in 1998. Downtown Dogs is under new ownership as of 2022, with a highly skilled and caring team dedicated to providing the highest level of dog services. What is the staff to dog ratio? Our staff to dog ratio varies based on the size, activity level, and personality of the dogs. We try to maintain a ratio of one dog handler to 15 dogs although this can vary. Our staff comes from a variety of backgrounds, but all have a common interest. They love dogs! All our staff members are required to complete a 20-course training program through The Dog Gurus and a minimum of two weeks hands-on training with our senior staff prior to being left alone with the pups in our care. Training includes orientation and covers topics such as learning theory, body language, group dynamics, appropriate play, and signs of stress. In addition, our dog handlers attend quarterly internal meetings to discuss pack dynamics, foster teamwork, and brainstorm activities for our clients. How do they deal with different dog personalities? We accommodate the various dog personalities by engaging them in Tiny Town, Dogsville , or, Ruff City where they can romp and wrestle, run back and forth, and play fetch. Some may enjoy a game of chase, racing around our playing structures, or jumping from slide to slide, while the older, mellow dogs just enjoy getting petted or brushed. The smaller guys have a room of their own to play in without the worries of a big paw. What is the daily routine? As soon as our furry friends arrive in the morning, we ensure they will have a blast! Our structured morning playtime includes lots of free time to run and burn off energy and a wide selection of toys and play equipment to keep them entertained. But it doesn’t stop there! We have many other fun activities such as bubble time, command practice, fort building, and agility challenges. By noon, it’s naptime! From noon to 2pm, our pups can recharge in their individual cozy crates. If you want to take it up a notch, you can check out our additional services offered during this time.
