We hit it off at our first meeting (even though Patrick wasn't 100% sold on the benefit of a wedding planner), but we quickly changed that! We all worked together on all the design and fun details and ultimately, their dream wedding happened without one hiccup. We are so happy to share that it has been featured over on Carats & Cake! From the save the dates that were a similar replica from my wedding, to the incredible gourmet burgers that were prepared to perfection for each guest, this wedding was top notch. Tainted Love performed to an energetic crowd, and the night just felt magical. We are so happy to see it featured! From the beginning, the expressed a desire to host a contemporary, non-traditional celebration. Formal sit-down wedding dinners had always felt too traditional for their taste. With their creative backgrounds and love for art, culture and great food, SFMOMA’s sculpture garden and terrace was the perfect venue for their cocktail-reception style wedding. Nick and Ted’s color palette featured black, white, and grey with brushed gold, green, and plum accents. Nick designed all of their wedding invitations and signage, complete with hand-applique gold leaf. Sharla Flock Designs artfully designed textural floral arrangements set in matte black footed vessels. They consisted of seasonal foliage, ferns, begonia leaves, anthirium, hellebores, scabiosa, deep wine ranunculus, lotus pods, nut grass, clematis puffs, and other visually interesting elements in greens, deep plum, and accenting neutral whites. Custom specialty cocktails, including a Zen Gimlet and Grapefruit-Rosemary Cooler, were served to guests during cocktail hour. Betty Zlatchin Catering curated an elevated food station menu for the grooms. With most of their guests traveling from out of town, Nick and Ted wanted to feature California cuisine and San Francisco favorites. Small plates featured delicious bites such as porcini & truffle ravioli and farmhouse style Tuscan chicken, inspired by the famous Zuni Café roast chicken. Weddings don’t always have to follow a traditional, cookie-cutter format. We absolutely loved collaborating with this creative, design-forward couple on their stylish, outside-the-box wedding celebration. Cavallo Point Lodge has so much to offer couples looking for that “all-inclusive” wedding. And by that, we don’t mean all your vendors are selected for you, but that you can have all your guests stay in one place, and have all the surrounding wedding events happen in the same area. Have your rehearsal dinner at the nearby casual yacht club, or in one of their smaller room offerings. You can host the wedding in their on property non-denominational chapel or outside on the chapel lawn. From there you can either tent or have the reception in the Calippe Ballroom. The theme was inspired by their travels to Japan and their special engagement celebration at Single Thread Restaurant in Healdsburg. This quaint restaurant and inn is known for Japanese artisanal cuisine and a Ryokan style aesthetic in the restaurant furnishings and tabletop ceramics. The color palette for the wedding incorporated neutral gray and wood elements fused with vibrant floral pops of fuchsia and purple with bright greenery. The Pearl in San Francisco was the perfect modern setting for their wedding. And This Humble Abode artfully executed the vision in the floral décor. This couple has a vibrant magnetism that makes you just want to be around them, and ultimately their wedding was exactly the same! This wedding was so full of love and joy, and just pure, simple beauty. While the indoor space is limited, having your ceremony in front of their gorgeous building with a cocktail hour within the Conservatory following just makes it so special. While there are limitations on what can be inside the Conservatory itself, guests are always wowed by the ability to wander throughout with their cocktails before either gathering for dinner inside the Orchid Pavilion or on the lawn. If you are looking for a small micro wedding, this is also the place to go, as they are offering (when restrictions on gatherings are lifted again) some great mini-wedding packages. We truly love working in this space, and look forward to producing many more weddings there! We see some of these behaviors often, and the most common offense is not adhering to the dress code. More and more we are seeing guests showing up in flip flops, shorts, tank tops (on men!), and even jeans. Unless that is what the invitation specifically mentions for attire, we recommend avoiding being the worst dress guest. When in doubt, overdress, or ask around prior to the wedding to see what the couple would prefer.     (photo by Josh Gruetzmacher) We also thought we would share this little cheat sheet in case it is hard to decipher the wording on the invite:    The invite says: "White Tie"  This is the most formal of all wedding dress codes (think state dinners and the Oscars).    He should wear:  A tuxedo, a long black jacket with tails, a white pique vest, and a bow tie. Black, formal shoes and even white gloves for dancing are appropriate.    She should wear:  A formal, full-length ball gown in a neutral color like dark brown or black. Glamorous makeup and dramatic jewelry and hair are appropriate.    The invite says: "Black Tie"  This is the next most formal wedding dress code and usually means the wedding is an evening affair.    He should wear:  A tuxedo. A black bow tie, cummerbund, and patent leather shoes are also suggested.    She should wear:  A chic cocktail dress or a long evening gown in a dark, neutral color like brown or black. The bride, wedding party, or friends can help answer questions about the appropriate dress length.    The invite says: "Formal" or "Black Tie Optional"  The wording here suggests something slightly less formal than black tie. This means that a tuxedo isn't required but the event is still formal enough for one to be appropriate.    He should wear:  A tuxedo or a formal dark suit and tie.    She should wear:  A long dress, a dressy suit, or a formal cocktail-length dress in a dark, neutral tone like brown, gray, or black.    The invite says: "Beach Formal"  This suggests an elegant beach wedding -- so dress to impress, but also dress for the elements (sun, sand, and water). The day felt extra special from the moment I set foot in the bridal suite; the room was humming with happiness, the Blue Angels were literally whizzing by the picturesque windows, and the bride was so present, she was taking it all in with a smile. And Nina & Dan originally planned for a large wedding celebration with an awesome band this past summer. Like many other couples, they had to postpone the party to next year, but they were still so excited to get married in 2020. We considered many different alternate plans back in June when things started to open up again and shelter in place ended…a backyard ceremony, an intimate private estate gathering, and a small winery wedding. Nina and Dan ultimately decided on Plan D: elope to Napa with just the two of them and a close friend who would officiate. Auberge du Soleil was the perfect venue! Although friends and family could not attend, Nina and Dan were able to view pre-recorded video messages from their closest loved ones during the ceremony. It was a beautiful day and meaningful ceremony.
