This support allows families and individuals to focus on their personal growth, family health, and stability while having basic needs met on a consistent basis. Volunteer Donate adopt-a-block Adopt-A-Block builds gospel-centered relationships through consistent community presence. Volunteers join us for a few hours in a designated neighborhood, visited 2–3 times weekly, to identify needs and serve practically. This may include picking up trash, delivering groceries to those with limited mobility, connecting with families, or knocking on doors to build new relationships. Our goal is not only to meet immediate physical needs but also to love our neighbors and share the hope of Jesus through ongoing care and connection. Food distribution sites Sign up to volunteer clothing outreach In a typical month, we distribute around 20,000 articles of clothing. Through this weekly outreach, the Dream Center partners with many volunteers to visit over 15 underserved neighborhoods with the goal of finding a need and filling it. As many as 500 volunteers serve by distributing food, hygiene items and other essentials, playing with kids, picking up trash, and visiting families door-to-door. Practical services are also available to the community to provide emotional, physical, mental and spiritual support. More Information Here Disaster Relief Disaster Relief collaborates with various churches and other organizations in order to quickly provide resources and emotional and spiritual support to victims affected by natural disasters occurring in the United States. Email: [email protected] DONATE NOW Mobile Food Banks An estimated 2 million people in Los Angeles county live with food insecurity, which means 1 in 5 people who live here may not know where their next meal is coming from (Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, 2019). The Dream Center addresses this need by distributing food to individuals and families through multiple local distribution sites. On average, our food programs feed more than 20,000 people monthly. Over the course of a year, more than 500,000 bags of groceries are distributed. Find Locations &amp; Times foster care intervention The Foster Care Intervention team works with individual families who have open cases with the Department of Children and Family Services. We help families stay together by providing basic necessities and in many cases, the furniture they need. Our goal in partnering with DCFS is to help loving families avoid separation, provide support families who are in the process of reunification and ultimately help close their case. More Information Here Human Trafficking Rescue The Dream Center’s Human Trafficking Rescue and five-day Emergency Shelter provides all necessary emergency services, food, housing, and basic items to adult female victims of domestic abuse, addiction and human trafficking. In this safe and private setting, staff individually work with each woman to find more permanent lodging, get psychiatric evaluations, be medically tested and treated, and pursue a healthy lifestyle in society. Phone: (877) 632-7234 Email: [email protected] jail outreach Through Jail Outreach, inmates in Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail, Twin Towers and Century Regional Detention can be discipled, encouraged and befriended by Dream Center staff and volunteers. With weekly visits and mentorship, Bible studies and church services, individuals of different demographics and backgrounds are equipped for release through enrollment in the Dream Center Discipleship (DCD) program. Serving as a bridge between those incarcerated in jail and those recovering in DCD, the outreach teams help build a loving community for incarcerated men and women. Through play therapy, sports, and activities tailored to their interests, we help kids see how Jesus fits into their everyday lives. Our goal is to provide a safe, joyful space where children grow in kindness, teamwork, and confidence while discovering their unique purpose in Christ. The Dream Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization in Los Angeles dedicated to transforming lives and serving those in need. Founded by Pastors Matthew and Caroline Barnett, the Dream Center provides free resources and long-term programs that help individuals and families overcome addiction, homelessness, poverty, and trauma. Through housing, food distribution, education, job training, and community outreach, the Dream Center meets both practical and spiritual needs—restoring hope, rebuilding futures, and empowering people to live healthy, purpose-filled lives. Give Today! The story of the first 30 years of the Dream Center. The History of Dream Center Since its beginning, we’ve provided housing, meals, education, and recovery programs for individuals and families in need in Los Angeles. 1994 Pastor Tommy Barnett and his son Matthew Barnett start the Dream Center in Los Angeles to serve people affected by homelessness, addiction, hunger, and related needs. 1996 The Dream Center purchased the former Queen of Angels Hospital campus in Echo Park. 1997 Over the following years they began converting the campus into the Dream Center’s main facility. 1999 Pastor Matthew’s and Caroline’s wedding. 2000 Pastor Matthew and Pastor Tommy spend the night on skid row. 2001 The Dream Center entered into a historic partnership with Angelus Temple, with Matthew Barnett serving as Senior Pastor while continuing to lead the Dream Center’s outreach efforts. A meaningful partnership that spanned 25 years.  2005 The Dream Center model inspired other cities and led to a network of Dream Centers around the U.S. and internationally. By the 2010s the network was commonly reported as dozens of centers and tens of thousands served monthly. 2010 Dream Center continued to scale community programs such as food banks, recovery residences, anti-trafficking shelter, medical outreaches, youth programs, job training, education 2012 The Dream Center began redeveloping more of the Queen of Angels complex, enabling conversion of additional floors into housing and recovery residences. 2017 Pastor Matthew ran 7 marathons in 7 consecutive days on 7 different continents! 2019 The Dream Center celebrates its 25th year of ministry and serving Los Angeles. 2020 The Covid-19 Pandemic didn’t stop the Dream Center. We continued to serve the Los Angeles community through all of our outreach programs. 2024 The Dream Center celebrates its 30th year of ministry and serving Los Angeles. 2025 Community relief efforts responding to local disasters such as Southern California fires and continued onsite program expansion. What We Do Through our comprehensive programs and services, we impact over 45,000 individuals monthly, offering hope and support to those in need. Adopt-A-Block Volunteers engage with local neighborhoods to build relationships and provide support through activities like delivering groceries, cleaning streets, and offering assistance to those in need. Mobile Food Banks Distribution of groceries to individuals and families, addressing food insecurity in various communities. Clothing Outreach Providing free clothing to those in need, with an average of 20,000 articles distributed monthly. Disaster Relief Collaborating with churches and organizations to provide resources and support to victims of natural disasters. Foster Care Intervention Assisting families at risk of separation by providing basic necessities and support to help keep families together. Transitional Housing Providing safe and structured environments for individuals and families to rebuild their lives. Discipleship Recovery A one-year program designed to support individuals overcoming addiction, depression, and abuse. Foster Youth Support Assisting young adults transitioning out of the foster care system with education, job training, and mentorship. Veterans Program Offering support to military veterans as they transition back into civilian life, including assistance with employment and benefits. Adult Education Offering free GED tutoring, life skills classes, job readiness training, and coaching to empower individuals toward educational and career success. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), 19.7 million American adults battled a substance abuse disorder in 2017 . Though program costs can vary, standard inpatient recovery programs typically range from $14,000 to $27,000 for a 30-day stay, while outpatient care can range from free to $500 per session (AAC, 2017). According to the CDC, nearly 841,000 people have died since 1999 from a drug overdose. In 2019, 70,630 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States. The age-adjusted rate of overdose deaths increased by over 4% from 2018 (20.7 per 100,000) to 2019 (21.6 per 100,000). Tired, disoriented, worn down by life. I simply asked him, “How’s everything going?” His response was blunt: “I just want to slap someone.” Without thinking, I looked him in the eyes and said, “Well, if you’re going to slap someone, slap me.” He stopped. Stared. And then—he laughed. Right there, something shifted. That one laugh led to a conversation about life, about pain, and eventually, about God. That single moment reminded me of what The Dream Center has always been about. For 31 years, we’ve been showing up for moments just like that. Now, we are just two weeks away from Night of Dreams —our biggest fundraising event of the year, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This night carries so much weight, not just for keeping the mission going, but for expanding—adding more beds, reaching more people, helping more tired, wandering souls like the man in the park. From September 3–17, every donation we receive will go toward a special opening total we will reveal during the event—a virtual “first offering” that will inspire the entire room. A young man who graduated from our program was strumming a guitar as his mentor guided him through the art of songwriting. Doctors once said this young man shouldn’t be alive. For years, he survived day-to-day on 200 mg of Adderall while his body slowly broke down. Now, there he was—writing his very first song sober. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, “I can’t believe this is happening. I never thought I’d have victories beyond just getting free.” His song will soon be released, and every time I think about it, I’m reminded of what your giving makes possible. But July was a slower month financially, and we need to finish strong in August to make it through the tough summer months. When you give, you’re not just meeting needs—you’re unlocking potential. The Dream Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization in Los Angeles dedicated to transforming lives and serving those in need. Founded by Pastors Matthew and Caroline Barnett, the Dream Center provides free resources and long-term programs that help individuals and families overcome addiction, homelessness, poverty, and trauma. Through housing, food distribution, education, job training, and community outreach, the Dream Center meets both practical and spiritual needs—restoring hope, rebuilding futures, and empowering people to live healthy, purpose-filled lives. Give Today! The story of the first 30 years of the Dream Center. The History of Dream Center Since its beginning, we’ve provided housing, meals, education, and recovery programs for individuals and families in need in Los Angeles. 1994 Pastor Tommy Barnett and his son Matthew Barnett start the Dream Center in Los Angeles to serve people affected by homelessness, addiction, hunger, and related needs. 1996 The Dream Center purchased the former Queen of Angels Hospital campus in Echo Park. 1997 Over the following years they began converting the campus into the Dream Center’s main facility. 1999 Pastor Matthew’s and Caroline’s wedding. 2000 Pastor Matthew and Pastor Tommy spend the night on skid row. 2001 The Dream Center entered into a historic partnership with Angelus Temple, with Matthew Barnett serving as Senior Pastor while continuing to lead the Dream Center’s outreach efforts. A meaningful partnership that spanned 25 years.  2005 The Dream Center model inspired other cities and led to a network of Dream Centers around the U.S. and internationally. By the 2010s the network was commonly reported as dozens of centers and tens of thousands served monthly. 2010 Dream Center continued to scale community programs such as food banks, recovery residences, anti-trafficking shelter, medical outreaches, youth programs, job training, education 2012 The Dream Center began redeveloping more of the Queen of Angels complex, enabling conversion of additional floors into housing and recovery residences. 2017 Pastor Matthew ran 7 marathons in 7 consecutive days on 7 different continents! 2019 The Dream Center celebrates its 25th year of ministry and serving Los Angeles. 2020 The Covid-19 Pandemic didn’t stop the Dream Center. We continued to serve the Los Angeles community through all of our outreach programs. 2024 The Dream Center celebrates its 30th year of ministry and serving Los Angeles. 2025 Community relief efforts responding to local disasters such as Southern California fires and continued onsite program expansion. It’s Not Over Yet. &#xe033; &#xe034; Our Mission We meet people in their deepest places of need and walk with them toward life-long transformation in a faith-based community. We exist to help individuals and families break destructive cycles, overcome addiction, homelessness, food insecurity, domestic violence, and poverty. The Dream Center is committed to empowering all people by providing immediate relief through the transforming love of Jesus. Our Vision We envision Dream Centers across the world serving individuals and families facing homelessness, addiction or crises with vital resources and education, guiding them toward recovery and healing to restore dignity, strengthen self-sufficiency, and pursue their God-given dream. What We Do Through our comprehensive programs and services, we impact over 45,000 individuals monthly, offering hope and support to those in need. Adopt-A-Block Volunteers engage with local neighborhoods to build relationships and provide support through activities like delivering groceries, cleaning streets, and offering assistance to those in need. Mobile Food Banks Distribution of groceries to individuals and families, addressing food insecurity in various communities. Clothing Outreach Providing free clothing to those in need, with an average of 20,000 articles distributed monthly. Disaster Relief Collaborating with churches and organizations to provide resources and support to victims of natural disasters. Foster Care Intervention Assisting families at risk of separation by providing basic necessities and support to help keep families together. Transitional Housing Providing safe and structured environments for individuals and families to rebuild their lives. Discipleship Recovery A one-year program designed to support individuals overcoming addiction, depression, and abuse. Foster Youth Support Assisting young adults transitioning out of the foster care system with education, job training, and mentorship. Veterans Program Offering support to military veterans as they transition back into civilian life, including assistance with employment and benefits. Adult Education Offering free GED tutoring, life skills classes, job readiness training, and coaching to empower individuals toward educational and career success. Fitness Center A fully equipped gym to promote physical health and well-being. Carey Kitchen &#038; Diner Serving over 2,000 hot meals daily to residents and the public. Dedicated to helping youths who have transitioned out of the foster care system, this program supports young adults (ages 18-23) by providing the resources for educational learning and job training, along with a supportive community and mentorship. More Information Here families Thousands of struggling homeless families have found refuge through our Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Families. This program provides the opportunity for struggling homeless families to gain support in spiritual, emotional, educational, financial and vocational areas, while establishing stability and engaging in community. Building a work in this city always comes with its own set of struggles. Renovating and purchasing our building was a steady, ongoing battle. But the last six years have been something else entirely—layered with one major challenge after another, including pandemics and devastating fires in Los Angeles. Recently, I was driving down the famous Hollywood Freeway when I looked up at the Dream Center, sitting high upon the hill. Beneath it, a wall was covered in graffiti, filled with countless messages. Yet above it all, the Dream Center stood tall. When I saw that picture, I thought about you—our amazing friends who continue to give and support. My heart warms knowing that a place like this can do what it does every single day because of people like you. The Dream Center is truly the people’s movement. Without government funding, we have not only survived—we have surged. Now, we are entering a new season of growth.
