The event honored individuals and groups whose service and leadership significantly enhanced the quality of life for Dublin residents during the past year. The following award recipients were announced: Citizen of the Year: Luong Dang Young Citizen of the Year: Rabia Badar Organization of the Year: Dublin Senior Foundation Mayor’s Award: Kathy Zhu Mayor’s Legacy Award: Dublin Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year – Luong Dang Luong Dang, owner of Taqueria Azteca in Dublin, was recognized for his generous and hands-on support of local charitable efforts throughout 2025. He donated meals to multiple organizations and personally delivered food to volunteers serving the community, often covering transportation and expenses himself. Dang also opened his business as a holiday donation drop-off hub and provided free meals to residents who contributed toy donations, helping expand community giving efforts. Young Citizen of the Year – Rabia Badar High school senior Rabia Badar was honored for her extraordinary commitment to service and digital equity. In 2025, she raised more than $25,000 to purchase and distribute over 120 laptops to underserved community members and organized additional fundraising efforts supporting food-insecure families in Dublin. Beyond fundraising, Badar volunteered directly at the Alameda County Community Food Bank and assisted wildfire victims in Los Angeles, extending her impact well beyond the local community. Organization of the Year – Dublin Senior Foundation The Dublin Senior Foundation was recognized for its continued dedication to supporting older adults and strengthening programs at the Dublin Senior Center. Through fundraising, outreach, and volunteer support, the Foundation helped provide social, recreational, and educational opportunities serving an average of more than 250 patrons daily. Despite rising costs and increasing demand for services in 2025, the organization and its volunteers remained committed to expanding access to programs that support seniors’ physical, mental, and social well-being. Mayor's Award – Kathy Zhu Mayor Sherry Hu presented the Mayor’s Award to Kathy Zhu, founder and president of the Silicon Valley Asian Association, for her leadership in fostering cultural connection and community engagement. Through her organization, Zhu has created opportunities that celebrate Asian cultural heritage while bringing residents together across generations. Over the past year, she helped organize and co-sponsor major cultural celebrations, including Diwali and Lunar New Year events that promoted unity and belonging throughout the Tri-Valley. Mayor's Legacy Award – Dublin Chamber of Commerce The Dublin Chamber of Commerce received the Mayor’s Legacy Award in recognition of its decades-long commitment to supporting local businesses and strengthening Dublin’s economic vitality. The Chamber provides networking opportunities, marketing support, leadership development, and community events that help businesses grow and succeed. Through continued collaboration and advocacy, the organization has played a lasting role in shaping Dublin’s business community and fostering economic connection across the city. Award recipients will be formally recognized at the March 3, 2026, City Council meeting. The Organization of the Year will receive a $500 cash prize, and the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year will each designate a favorite nonprofit organization to receive a $300 donation. Two additional finalists in each category will also receive $200 donations for their nonprofit of choice.
