Undeserved favor from an unobligated giver We are offered Jesus Christ and the redemptive rescue he brings, not because we are deserving, but because grace is at the heart of who God is.  As recipients of grace, we seek to offer genuine welcome to all and to live with confidence that God’s grace can bring rescue and redemption to anyone, anywhere. A local embodiment of God’s family God graciously gathers together men, women, and children in union with him and one another through faith and baptism.  We seek to serve as God’s ambassadors wherever he takes us: blessed to be a blessing. Planted here with a purpose God has created his world, Marin included, to thrive and flourish.  We seek to love Marin according to God’s love, equipping one another to use their varied gifts and vocations for the good of our neighbors and the glory of God. Our Beliefs Grace Church of Marin in practice and belief is proudly located within the mainstream of the historic Christian faith as summarized and celebrated in the great catholic (universal) expressions: the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. We are also children of the Protestant Reformation and its emphasis on God's lordship and grace in all spheres of life. Helpful summaries of these views can be found in documents such as the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Heidelberg Catechism. Believing that the gospel is the good news that transforms not just souls but communities, cities and, one day, all things, they wanted a church that could be a blessing for Marin and beyond. A congregation that began in living rooms and around dining tables soon began meeting at Olney Hall at College of Marin, before moving to the Marin Art and Garden Center and back to the College of Marin Cafeteria and Quadrangle. As we grew in number, we celebrated God’s grace in drawing our neighbors from Southern Marin, the Sir Francis Drake corridor, San Rafael, Novato, and beyond! We officially transitioned from church plant to particular church in 2012.  In October of 2020, Grace Church of Marin received the members of Red Hill Church in San Anselmo, joining with us in our mission. Red Hill Church had roots all the way back to July of 1928, when the Marin County Baptist Church was established, first meeting in a railcar for worship. This group of believers purchased a plot of land at 921 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in October of 1930 to build a building and hold services. God used this coming together to bless Grace Church of Marin in three ways. We added some wonderful people, a wonderful pastor (Michael Snearly), and a wonderful building at 921 Sir Francis Drake Blvd. in the heart of San Anselmo to call home.    In early 2024, convinced that Grace Church of Marin’s best days are still ahead of her, Pastor Rod announced his retirement from Grace Marin. He joyfully passed the baton of leadership to Pastor Michael Snearly in the summer of 2024. We invite you to join us as we look forward to what God will do in us and through us in the years to come! membership Interested in learning more about us? Our role, through the context of the church, is to equip and partner with families to encourage children to live into the hope, security, and joy of being united with Christ. We seek for children to have a joyful and authentic encounter with Jesus and apprentice with him in the “good life” for which we were made. We begin with grace, seek to model grace, and motivate with grace as we encourage children to take their place in the magnificent story of God’s redeeming work.  Grace Marin's worship service starts at 9:30 a.m. and we desire for children to be active participating members in worship with their family. During the sermon portion of the service, children (preschool - 5th grade) are invited to attend Sunday School with their teachers. Nursery (infant - 3 years old) is available during the entire service. These are times for connection, fun, and thoughtful discussion about Christianity and life. We also host other fun events and opportunities for students throughout the year, and students are always encouraged to invite their friends to anything we do! On Sunday mornings, students are always invited to join their parents for worship. On first and third Sundays, we offer a short Sunday School class for middle school students (Grades 6-8) during the sermon portion of the worship service. OUR PURSUIT: GATHER, GROW, and GO   GATHER students of Marin to taste and see that Jesus is good.   In a world where none of us have it all together, we want to invite students into grace - undeserved favor from an unobligated giver. We create a space where students can be known, ask hard questions, and encounter the love of Christ in his Word.  GROW students as they learn to enjoy Jesus.   In a culture that is searching for the good life, we want to teach students that the good life is found in union with Christ. We facilitate relational discipleship in the church so that students can learn to follow Jesus their whole life long.    Equip students to GO , sharing the love of Jesus with their world. In a life reconciled by Christ, we want students to remember who they are and to whom they belong. We challenge them to bear the family resemblance as God’s adopted children and live for the mission of Christ.    Contact Jeremiah  with questions or to get involved!  Grace Adults Community Groups Community Groups are just that... As we meet together each week, we recognize in the preparation time, that God, through his word and Spirit, gathers us into his presence and calls us into his life and mission. As God begins to speak to us, we then answer responsively with a Psalm or other text drawn from the biblical hymns of God’s people. As God draws us to himself, we thank and praise him in our Prayer of Adoration. We enter his presence with singing and the hearing of his Word.  God RENEWS & SANCTIFIES us to himself. Throughout Scripture, when people find themselves in God's presence, they sense how far short they fall and become aware of their own shame and brokenness. In the same way, through the Prayer of Confession, we acknowledge our sin, both as a community and also silently as individuals for ourselves and for the world. After our confession, through the Assurance of Pardon, we are reminded that God is always ready, by his mercy and grace, to forgive us. Next, we seek God’s provision in a Prayer of the People and, using the Lord’s Prayer, we offer ourselves in service to his kingdom both now and forever. Then, renewed in our identity, we welcome one another and share the peace of Christ. God SPEAKS to us in his word, addressing us as his forgiven people. In the public reading of Scripture and its exposition in the Sermon, God shares the story of his saving mission in Jesus, encouraging us to join in that mission and orienting us again to his priorities. With Christians through the centuries, we respond aloud in thanks and praise to God after his word is read to us. Instructed by his word, we offer ourselves to God’s service through our Offering. In the Confession of Faith, we confess his story to be our own story in the creed, which is simply a summary of faith from the early church.  God STRENGTHENS us at his table. As Communion begins, we lift our hearts to God and give him thanks in the Prayer of Thanksgiving, or Eucharistic Prayer. In the Words of Institution, we affirm that through this meal Jesus gave us, we remember his death and proclaim his new life as the centerpiece of God’s mission. God invites us to his table to feed us with his own life and to strengthen us before sending us out. In communion, he unites us together in Jesus Christ as his reconciled and reconciling people. We respond by receiving the Lord’s Supper, sharing together in the bread and wine, as a communion in the body and blood of Christ given for our salvation. God SENDS us into the world. At the close of worship, God sends us out to carry forward the gospel story. In our worship, we have responded to God’s call, heard his word, offered ourselves to his service, and received strength at his table. God weaves us together as a new people, oriented to his mission. We recognize and celebrate this in a sending prayer and song. God then grants us his assurance and blessing in the Benediction, based upon scripture and given in his Triune name. Finally, in the dismissal, we respond in thanks and go out in love and peace to serve him in the world, remembering who we are and to whom we belong. For those new to our community and for those considering membership, our  Intro to Grace class   is an opportunity to learn more about Grace Church of Marin, its history and vision, how we understand the mission of the church, and how you can more intentionally be a part of it!  Intro to Grace is held multiple times each year (usually on a Saturday morning). Denominationally, Grace Church of Marin is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America . People within a localized community coming together to dive deeper into the gospel outside of Sunday worship. Denominationally, Grace Church of Marin is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church in America . People within a localized community coming together to dive deeper into the gospel outside of Sunday worship. Community Groups typically gather twice a month to cultivate friendships and life together centered around Jesus Christ through prayer, bible study, fellowship, and a shared meal. All are welcome - individuals, young adults, and families. These are open groups and you are warmly invited.
