We can also address any questions or concerns you might have. Your veterinarian will examine your pet from nose-to-tail, looking for things like heart murmurs, ear infections, and/or parasites. Your vet can also provide pet-proofing tips, training assistance, and parasite protection recommendations.  Before Your First Appointment Complete the  New Client Form  prior to your first visit. Assemble and be sure to bring all the proper items with you: Your pet's adoption or purchase records Any existing medical history A list of current medications and supplements Current feeding schedule and the brand of food you use A list of questions you have for your veterinarian Collect any necessary stool or urine samples, if requested. If you're bringing in your dog, be sure he or she is accustomed to being on a short leash.  If you're bringing a cat, be sure to have an appropriate carrier. Feel free to bring your pet's favorite treats to keep them happy and distracted! Appointment Policies ​Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your pet's appointment for check-in. If you have not filled out all relevant   patient forms  yet, plan to arrive 10 minutes ahead of your appointment. While we do our best to make sure all of our patients are seen on time, there will be times of occasional unexpected delay due to an emergency or because we are providing care for a patient that needs a little more time. They checked him out for the stinger, and gave him a steroid and allergy shot for the swelling. His usual Vet is in the OC, so they asked us some questions to rule out any issues before administering the needed treatment. The Vet techs and doctor are thorough and at the same time reassuring. Heartworms are a serious and potentially fatal disease in pets. Twelve-inch-long worms (looks like spaghetti) live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels of infected pets, causing lung disease, heart failure, organ damage, and can be fatal if untreated. How does my pet get heartworms? Heartworms living in an infected dog, cat, or wildlife produce baby worms that circulate in the bloodstream. When a mosquito bites an infected animal, it picks up these worms and when it bites another animal, the worms enter through the bite wound. Heartworms can grow and live for 5 - 7 years in dogs and 3 years in cats. What can I do to protect my pet? Heartworm disease is preventable! Dogs should be tested annually and before starting prevention. Prevention is the safest and most cost-effective option, but treatment is available for dogs (although costly and lengthy). Cats should be tested before starting prevention and re-tested as the veterinarian deems appropriate. There is NO treatment in cats, so prevention is critical and the only means of protection.
