He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Columbia University and specializes in the rehabilitation of sports injuries of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and complex conditions of the spine. Dr. Gee was a member of the Wellness Team for the U.S. Open 2012 Golf Championships. He has over 10 years of experience helping injured rock climbers, mountain bikers, tennis players, and golfers return to their sports successfully. Dr. Gee is currently one of only four physical therapists to achieve the Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) status in San Francisco, a highly skilled manual therapy concept to relieve pain and restore motion of any joint in the body. He has been a clinical instructor for physical therapy students from UCSF, UOP, USC, Columbia University, and Samuel Merritt University. Dr. Gee has also been an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association since 2001. Giancarlo Centeno, DPT Doctor of Physical Therapy Dr. Giancarlo Centeno earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from UCSF and SFSU. Before that, he graduated from San Diego State University with a B.S. in Kinesiology. After sustaining a tailbone injury and finding himself in a PT clinic for the first time, he fell in love with the atmosphere. He especially loves how the profession combines the intersections of exercise, health, and wellness. Dr. Centeno is a strength and conditioning enthusiast who loves training like an athlete. Whether he's helping patients deal with their injuries or improve their levels of performance, his strong background in exercise leads patients to their desired outcomes. In his free time, you can find him working on his wellness newsletter, photographing landscapes, or working on his music (local DJ, anyone?). Carlie Relyea Office Administrator Carlie earned a bachelor's degree in Biology from Drexel University. While at Drexel, she discovered a love for learning and research, and worked in a stem cell laboratory prior to moving to SF. Outside of work, Carlie enjoys running, swimming, and reading. Zoe Landis PT Aide Zoe graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri, Columbia with a B.S. in Biology. While in undergrad, she conducted neuromuscular research and played on the Women's Rugby team. Zoe had her own experience with PT after sustaining a knee injury during a game. Javascript must be enabled for the correct page display Testimonials Katty is knowledgeable, intuitive, and an excellent listener. She cares and really pays attention to what's going on with the patient's body, honing in on symptoms and interconnected issues, and targeting therapies for steady resolution. Additionally, Katty is a pleasure to chat with and combines the perfect mix of upbeat attitude and the consistent 'push' that clients need -- or at least I did! Also, her assistant, Michael, brings fun to the sessions and gets you through those extra reps with his playful energy. He has a great mentor and is on a path to being a very effective PT guru as well. And shout-out to Demetri for helping me with all the billing, scheduling, and paperwork -- definitely the unsung hero part of the clinic, ha ha! You guys are all great and made it less frustrating to have to do PT -E. G. I would never have imagined that such a complete recovery would be possible over Zoom, but that's just a testament to how skilled and adaptable Justin Jellin is. From our first session, he was able to empathize deeply and cite examples of people who have had similar pain, affirming me of his experience and making me feel comfortable be honest even when I wasn't the most disciplined. Over the course of a year, we talked about the results of our exercises, modified routines through an easy to follow portal, kept a pain log, and even embedded breathing exercises and stress relieving techniques to help compliment our work together. Justin Jellin was incredibly skilled at keeping me accountable, listening to give accurate suggestions, making adjustments, and getting creative to understand pain that he had to assess virtually and that included a psycho-physiological component. I could not recommend him higher -Asif D. THANK YOU KOJI for healing my peroneal brevis tendonitis! I had random people on the street telling me to go see you when I was on crutches/ rolling around on a knee scooter, and your magic hands are incredible! In the months since my injury, every week I saw significant improvements when I saw you, and stalled healing when I didn't. The combination of cupping, electrical stimulation, and fascia massage was effective and I am happily back to dancing on the regular! Billing was always transparent and super easy, with paying before every appointment. Highly recommend G Sports Therapy and Koji to all of my friends -Joyce C. 10/10 would recommend anyone with a recent shoulder injury to visit GSports on 3rd. Parisa is incredibly knowledgeable and helped heal my torn ac ligament back into shape in matter of weeks. I was expecting to be out months, but fully healed in less then 10 sessions. It would be hard to find a more professional highly knowledgeable team to help nurse a recent injury back into shape. Go to Parisa, your injury won't regret it. -M. Findeisen I had a pain in my knee and couldn't run more than 2 miles without some sort of pain, and my half marathon was less than a month away. But thanks to G Sports PT, I was able to run my half marathon without any pain or soreness! Location in the Fidi made it easy to go in during lunch, and scheduling was very flexible and simple. The receptionist Jenesis always greeted me with a smile! You can opt to receive an email reminder for your appointments too. The entire staff is friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. Mike treated me for my knee and was great! He was able to explain my problem and answer all of my questions. He's very patient with his patients and takes the time to ensure your progression. Jessica helped me a lot with exercises and time passed by very quickly since she made it so painless! Overall, this place will take very good care of you and I appreciate the extra efforts the entire staff makes. Now that I'm discharged, I'm going to miss seeing everyone here each week. Thanks G Sports!!! -Stephen W. GSports has helped me so much, I can't find the words to express it. Michael Ng is so upbeat and positive that I am uplifted when I leave. I am so happy and my pain is 98% reduced. I would recommend GSports and Michael Ng to anyone and everyone. -J.W.S. I came to G Sports for a neck injury. Koji was my physical therapist. He was thorough and now I feel great with no pain. The staff was very welcoming and accomodating. Thank you! -Elizabeth S. Patrick helped me get back into my hobby of mountain biking. After having surgery on my left shoulder, I was almost incapable of riding a bike. Now I feel safely able to ride the trails I rode pre-surgery. -Michael K. From the beginning the staff at G Sports have been awesome. Jenesis will check you in and schedule your appointments. Jessica will assist exercises, stretches, IFC, ultrasounds and icing! I've been working exclusively with Michael Ng in the office and he's been awesome. He listens to what you have to say and does a great job of addressing the issues that your body is facing. Michael is also really good at explaining why you are doing what you are doing. So how has the physical therapy progressed so far? My right shoulder problem that I've had since college is fantastic. -Thang H. I injured my low back in a snowboarding accident. Patrick Gee did an excellent job, helped my recovery and will put me in much better shape for returning to my sports and physical activities. -David L. I had a shoulder surgery and was trying to find an appointment at various physical therapy places in the city. G Sports scheduled me right away compared to everyone else who had no openings for 2 weeks! I was treated by Michael Ng, who is extremely knowledgeable and VERY patient. He spent a good amount of time explaining what the cause of pain was, and how to treat it, and he was very effective in helping me recover in a very short period of time. Will highly recommend this place to friends/family! -Rol E. Patrick is very friendly and courteous, to say nothing of being very professional. He is knowledgeable for my specific problem (elbow) and offers suggestions as to how to make things better and pain free. I would readily refer Patrick to friends and colleagues and wouldn’t hesitate to return if I needed to see a physical therapist in the future. -Dennis P. I’ve found Patrick to be very skillful and knowledgeable. He is able to communicate clearly what I need to do and the reasons for the activity. This was very helpful to me in participating in my therapy. The outcome was very successful! I’m able to do almost everything I was able to do before my ankle fracture. I also had a program to continue improving. -Marjorie S. Patrick was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful during my recovery. I think he’s set an excellent standard for other physical therapy practitioners to follow. -Peter T. I can’t praise Patrick highly enough. His treatment has helped increase my neck range of motion more than I have had in years. For 12 years I’ve endured a surface sensitivity/pain on the skin of the left side of my head. Patrick’s treatment of the muscles in my neck and shoulder on that side have caused that sensitivity to disappear –to ME a small miracle for which I am very happy!! His treatment and the relief it has provided me has made this a great experience. He is a total professional. Patrick Gee | Rates & Insurance in Berkeley You are using an outdated browser. If you have had or are planning on having an orthopedic surgery, we will help you progress according to your post-operative protocol and reach your full rehabilitation potential. We also help patients recover from chronically painful conditions and improve posture and body mechanics. What should I bring with me to my first appointment? Please bring your physician’s referral or prescription for physical therapy, your insurance card, and a government issued photo ID, like a driver’s license. It is also advisable to bring any records from your previous doctor, a list of your medications, allergies and a list of prior doctors. We also recommend bringing in a list of any questions or concerns you may have. Please make sure that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so that you can provide us the necessary paperwork and insurance information to put you in our system. To save time, you can also print the new patient forms located on our forms page, and bring them completed to your appointment. What should I wear? We highly recommend you bring comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing or athletic wear to your appointment because oftentimes we will be stretching or exercising you. Your clothes should also allow us to evaluate your area of injury, so please dress accordingly. For example, if you have a knee injury, please bring shorts, if you have a shoulder injury, please wear a tank-top or loose fitting T-shirt. As for footwear, we suggest comfortable, closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers. If you have any questions, please contact us prior to your first appointment. How long does each visit take? The initial visit takes a little longer than subsequent visits due to the paperwork that you need to fill out, in addition to the completion of the assessment process. Expect this to take about 60-90 minutes. Follow-up appointments are usually an hour, plus or minus 15 minutes depending on your condition. If you have a specific time constraint, please let us know before your appointment and we will do our best to accommodate you. How long will I need physical therapy? Your physical therapist will estimate on your first visit the frequency and duration of visits that you will need. This is based partially on your goals, the level of function you want to achieve, the severity of your condition, precautions, post-operative protocols, and any other complicating factors. Your physical therapist will typically re-evaluate your progress after 30 days and will let you know how close you are to reaching your goals. Physical therapy is often monitored by your physician, in which case we will send them reports on your progress. When should I start seeing improvements? You can typically expect improvements in just a few visits. But the amount that you improve depends on the same factors associated with how long treatment will take. If you follow the treatment plan your physical therapist gives you, including precautions, a home exercise program, and your prescribed follow-up visits, you should notice improvements according to plan. If at any point you feel like you are not progressing at a satisfactory rate, we will collaborate with you and modify your treatment plan. We will always keep you informed as well about your progress. Will you keep in contact with my doctor? After your initial evaluation we will send a copy of the initial report to your doctor along with progress reports at regular intervals. Will I see the same physical therapist every time? Yes. We will make every attempt to schedule you with the physical therapist you desire to see. However, you may transfer to another physical therapist, if it accommodates your schedule better. All of our physical therapists are fully-licensed and enjoy delivering high-quality care. Will my insurance pay for physical therapy? Generally, most insurance companies pay for physical therapy. Some companies only offer limited coverage. We recommend that you call the benefit number listed on your insurance card to check on your insurance benefits before you start physical therapy. As a courtesy, we can verify your benefits if you give us all of your insurance information. Do I need a physician's referral for physical therapy? Most insurance companies will require that you get a physician's referral for physical therapy, which you need to bring on your first appointment. Medicare additionally requires that your physician re-certify your physical therapy plan of care every 30 days or sooner to continue with treatment. Please call us if you have questions, need assistance, or would like a referral to get a diagnosis. What is the difference between Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy? Physical Therapy (PT) aims at restoring a patient’s physical function. PT treatments help people recover from their injury or diagnosis by focusing on the root problem or impairments responsible for the physical dysfunction or ailment. Occupational Therapy (OT) aims at adapting the environment to fit the patient. OT treatments enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life, using careful analysis of physical, environmental, social, mental, and other factors to identify barriers to occupation. This may be your best option if you have a compromised immune system, you’re working from home, live in a rural area, or simply just want to feel better in the comfort of your home. All you need is a laptop, smartphone, or computer with audio video capabilities and a good internet connection. Set it up Call any of our offices and ask to schedule a telehealth initial evaluation. We’ll coordinate necessary documents with you via email. When you’re all set up, we’ll email you a link to a virtual meeting room to see your physical therapist. Prepare To prepare for your first visit, we recommend using a laptop with video and audio capacity, so you can adjust the screen angles during your session when different body positions are needed. Please wear loose fitting clothes so you can move freely and so your physical therapist can see your injury or condition. We recommend you check into your telehealth appointment at least 5 minutes prior to your appointment time. First Visit On your first visit, your physical therapist will evaluate your condition to determine the best plan of care for you. Treatments may include an exercise program, balance training, stretching, ergonomic modifications, self-care advice, or other procedures to reduce your pain and improve your function. Each aspect of your care will be uniquely tailored to your goals and abilities. Get Results To achieve optimal outcomes, you must adhere to the frequency and duration of visits that your physical therapist prescribes for your plan of care. We recommend scheduling these on your first visit to ensure you reserve the times and dates that are most convenient for you.
