Upon his graduation from Boston University in 2006, he moved to California and opened his private dental practice. Prior to attending Boston University, Dr. Lee received his Master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry from Yonsei University in 2001. While attending the Postgraduate school of dental medicine, he also got 3-year postgraduate specialty training in Prosthodontics. During the training, Dr. Lee was named a Dean’s Scholar for his high levels of academic and clinical achievements. With a commitment to delivering the highest level of contemporary, comprehensive, and compassionate dental care, Dr. Lee established his own practice with 3-D CT Scan, Dental Laser, CAD/CAM, and other cutting-edge facilities. Dedicated to staying current and proficient with leading-edge dentistry, he has incorporated some of the most advanced dental technology and techniques into his practice and participates regularly in continuing education and advanced training courses throughout the country. He has integrated all his experience as a Lecturer for UCLA’s Section of Restorative Dentistry, providing education for aspiring dental students. Recently he has given lectures regarding implant dentistry to general dentists through the training courses from the sponsorship of internationally well-known implant systems. He is now the certified doctor of Nobel Biocare, 3i, Zimmer, Osstem, and DIO implant systems and is also a Pinhole Certified Doctor, specializing in minimally invasive gum recession treatment. Dr. Lee is a very active member of AO (Academy of Osseointegration), American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), and Academy of Oral Sedation Dentistry. His passion and dedication to dentistry have been recognized both locally and nationally. The Consumer’s Research Council of America has listed Dr. Lee as one of America’s Top Dentists in each of the last 2 years. Dr. Daniel Lee, DDS Born and raised in the South Bay, Dr. Daniel Lee D.D.S. is a general dentist currently practicing in the Los Angeles area. He graduated from UCLA School of Dentistry in 2019 and trained for two years in UCLA advanced prosthodontics. Since beginning his professional career in 2021, he has received additional training in complex treatment planning, implantology and oral surgery, and aesthetic dentistry. Along with private practice, Dr. Lee teaches dental students at his alma mater UCLA and has given lectures on restorative/rehabilitative dentistry internationally. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys running, reading and writing poetry, and community service. Dr. Dawn Sul, DDS Dr. Dawn Sul is a general dentist committed to providing high-quality dental care with compassion and precision. She graduated from the University of the Pacific and earned her Bachelor of Science degree with honors. Then, she completed rigorous dental training and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Upon his graduation from Boston University in 2006, he moved to California and opened his private dental practice. Prior to attending Boston University, Dr. Lee received his Master’s degree in Restorative Dentistry from Yonsei University in 2001. While attending the Postgraduate school of dental medicine, he also got 3-year postgraduate specialty training in Prosthodontics. During the training, Dr. Lee was named a Dean’s Scholar for his high levels of academic and clinical achievements. With a commitment to delivering the highest level of contemporary, comprehensive, and compassionate dental care, Dr. Lee established his own practice with 3-D CT Scan, Dental Laser, CAD/CAM, and other cutting-edge facilities. Dedicated to staying current and proficient with leading-edge dentistry, he has incorporated some of the most advanced dental technology and techniques into his practice and participates regularly in continuing education and advanced training courses throughout the country. He has integrated all his experience as a Lecturer for UCLA’s Section of Restorative Dentistry, providing education for aspiring dental students. Recently he has given lectures regarding implant dentistry to general dentists through the training courses from the sponsorship of internationally well-known implant systems. He is now the certified doctor of Nobel Biocare, 3i, Zimmer, Osstem, and DIO implant systems and is also a Pinhole Certified Doctor, specializing in minimally invasive gum recession treatment. Dr. Lee is a very active member of AO (Academy of Osseointegration), American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), and Academy of Oral Sedation Dentistry. His passion and dedication to dentistry have been recognized both locally and nationally. The Consumer’s Research Council of America has listed Dr. Lee as one of America’s Top Dentists in each of the last 2 years. Dr. Daniel Lee, DDS Born and raised in the South Bay, Dr. Daniel Lee D.D.S. is a general dentist currently practicing in the Los Angeles area. He graduated from UCLA School of Dentistry in 2019 and trained for two years in UCLA advanced prosthodontics. Since beginning his professional career in 2021, he has received additional training in complex treatment planning, implantology and oral surgery, and aesthetic dentistry. Along with private practice, Dr. Lee teaches dental students at his alma mater UCLA and has given lectures on restorative/rehabilitative dentistry internationally. Tooth Extractions – Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, CA. You and Dr. Lee, Dr. Yoo, Dr. Sul or Dr. Lee may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment. The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health. To avoid these complications, in most cases, Drs. Lee, Yoo, Sul or Lee will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth. After Tooth Extraction After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. Bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes immediately after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times to staunch the flow of blood. After the blood clot forms it is important to not disturb or dislodge the clot. Do not rinse vigorously, suck on straws, smoke, drink alcohol or brush teeth next to the extraction site for 72 hours. These activities may dislodge or dissolve the clot and hinder the healing process. Limit vigorous exercise for the next 24 hours, as this increases blood pressure and may cause more bleeding from the extraction site. After the tooth is extracted you may feel some pain and experience some swelling. An ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn applied to the area will keep swelling to a minimum. Take pain medications as prescribed. The swelling usually subsides after 48 hours. Use pain medication as directed. Call our office if the medication doesn’t seem to be working. If antibiotics are prescribed, continue to take them for the indicated length of time even if signs and symptoms of infection are gone. Drink lots of fluids and eat nutritious, soft food on the day of the extraction. You can eat normally as soon as you are comfortable. It is important to resume your normal dental routine after 24 hours. This should include brushing and flossing your teeth at least once a day. This will speed healing and help keep your mouth fresh and clean. After a few days you should feel fine and can resume your normal activities. If you have heavy bleeding, severe pain, continued swelling for 2-3 days, or a reaction to the medication, call our office immediately. Sectioning a Tooth Some teeth require sectioning. The Extraction Process At the time of extraction the doctor will need to numb your tooth, jaw bone and gums that surround the area with a local anesthetic. During the extraction process you will feel a lot of pressure. This is from the process of firmly rocking the tooth in order to widen the socket for removal. You feel the pressure without pain as the anesthetic has numbed the nerves stopping the transference of pain, yet the nerves that transmit pressure are not profoundly affected. What is a root canal? A root canal is a simple treatment that saves a tooth when its pulp has become infected. The pulp is at the center of your tooth and is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Various symptoms of the infection may include visible injury or swelling of the tooth and sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth or gums. Schedule an Appointment How is a root canal performed? If you experience any of these symptoms, we will most likely recommend non-surgical treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. We begin by removing the injured pulp and thoroughly cleaning and sealing the root canal system. This therapy is usually completed in one or more visits, depending on the extent of the treatment required. Success for this type of treatment occurs in about 90% of cases. We use local anesthesia to eliminate discomfort. In addition, we will provide nitrous oxide analgesia if indicated. Most our patients are able to drive home after treatment and comfortably return to normal activity right away. If your tooth is not amenable to endodontic treatment or the chance of success is unfavorable, you will be informed at the time of consultation or when a complication becomes evident during or after treatment. What happens after root canal treatment? When your root canal therapy has been completed, we keep a record of your treatment at our office and schedule a follow-up restoration to be placed within a few weeks. It is rare for endodontic patients to experience complications after routine endodontic treatment or microsurgery. A denture or a complete denture as it is often called, is an appliance that is inserted in the mouth, replaces natural teeth and provides support for the cheeks and lips. Missing teeth can affect your “bite” as well as your ability to speak and chew. Their loss can increase the burden on your remaining teeth and can cause muscle pain in your jaws and headaches. And of course, losing a tooth can affect your appearance. The following information reviews replacing missing teeth with an implant retained denture . Although many patients have no problem wearing an upper denture, some people find it difficult to wear and eat with lower dentures. Several implant-supported replacement options are available if you are missing all of your lower teeth. Schedule an Appointment Ball Attachment Denture One option is to have two implants placed in your lower jaw and a denture made that snaps onto these dental implants. This option allows your lower denture to be more stable while chewing than without implants. However, there will still be movement of your lower denture, and sore spots will occur if any food particles, especially seeds, are caught under it. As with all removable replacement teeth, you still will need periodic appointments for denture adjustment. Bar Attachment Denture Another option involves placing four to six implants, depending on your jaw size or shape, into your lower jaw. After healing is complete, the implants are connected with a custom-made support bar. Your denture will be made with special internal retention clips that attach onto the support bar, enabling the denture to snap firmly into place. This is called an “overdenture.” The advantage of this option is that it is much more stable than the first option and allows very little denture movement. Your denture is still removable for easy cleaning and maintenance. Schedule an Appointment Screw Retained Denture A third option uses five or more implants to support a permanent denture secured with screws or clasps. It doesn’t rest on the gums, allowing cleaning underneath without removal. This option replaces all lower teeth and is only removed during maintenance visits, though it requires more effort to clean. What If I’m Missing All Of My Upper Teeth? A similar range of treatment options is also available for your upper jaw. However, because the bone is not as hard as that in the lower jaw, people often need more implants to support their new replacement teeth. Depending upon the number of implants to be placed, it may be possible to eliminate the need for covering the roof of your mouth with a complete denture. This option allows you to fully taste your food and gives you a better sense of its temperature. Your denture will feel more natural. You will still have a removable denture, which makes cleaning the support bar and denture much easier. Inlays and onlays are made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin and are bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. First Appointment During the first visit, the damaged or decaying area of the tooth (or the filling that is being replaced) is removed, and the tooth is prepared for the inlay or onlay. To ensure proper fit and bite, we make an impression of the tooth and send it to a lab for fabrication. Dr. Lee, Dr. Yoo, Dr. Sul or Dr. Lee then applies a temporary sealant on the tooth and schedules the next appointment. Second Appointment At the second appointment, the temporary sealant is removed. Next, Drs. Lee, Yoo, Sul or Lee make sure that the inlay or onlay fits correctly. If the fit is satisfactory, the inlay or onlay is bonded to the tooth with a strong resin and polished to a smooth finish. Considerations for Inlays and Onlays Traditional fillings can reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50 percent. Alternatively, inlays and onlays, which are bonded directly onto the tooth, using special high-strength resins, actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75 percent. As a result, they typically last from 10 to 30 years. In some cases, where the damage to the tooth is not extensive enough to merit an entire dental crown, onlays provide a very good alternative.
