This newly created managed cybersecurity services company, spun off from the 25-year-old Open Systems brand, required a complete brand package – and they needed it fast. 86 days, to be exact (yes, we counted). Our proven process laid the groundwork for a brand that was both meaningful and distinct, which isn’t easy in the crowded cybersecurity space. From big-picture strategy to launch-ready deliverables, we made it happen, proving that speed and quality can go hand in hand.   SCOPE BRAND STRATEGY CORPORATE NAMING VISUAL EXPRESSION VOICE & MESSAGING KEY TEMPLATES LAUNCH VIDEO INTERIM WEBSITE LAUNCH FULL WEBSITE DESIGN LAUNCHING SMART. SCALING STRONG. A new brand’s legitimacy is often validated by a strong digital presence. But with the realities of new website development and little time to spare, we recommended a phased approach. First, create a high-impact, interim landing page to generate brand excitement and buzz for the initial launch. Second, meticulously craft a comprehensive site from the ground up, integrating technical requirements, fine-tuning the customer journey and copy, and bringing the site to life through a well thought-out design and user experience. BRAND STRATEGY. We all know security threats are nonstop. What if you had a security partner who was, too? That idea drives Ontinue’s Nonstop SecOps approach, delivering the sophistication of a global enterprise SecOps team to mid-sized companies. Ontinue works tirelessly to prevent breaches and strengthen security posture, giving businesses the confidence to innovate and grow with limited resources. NAMING. We developed the Ontinue name – a clever nod to “Always on” and “Continuous protection” – and secured the .com URL for standout memorability. This became the foundation for a bold brand platform tailored to the nonstop security challenges mid-sized companies face. Nobody can believe we actually pulled this off. — May Mitchell, CMO, Ontinue RESULTS. The brand launched on time and on budget, with an instant embrace of its positioning. The global sales team was energized and social channels buzzed as the brand generated immediate traction. After the first month, the CMO reported that the brand had already captured 16% share of voice – an impressive foothold for a new entrant in the market. Ready to see what WHM can do for you? You are advised to review th Out of the weeds and into their hearts - Menlo Security - WHM Creative About Capabilities Work Blog Press Contact Us Out of the weeds and into their hearts Menlo Security Menlo Security wanted to be viewed as a strategic security partner for large organizations, but a strong focus on their technology (isolation core) and tactical use cases (eliminate malware 100%) prevented them from up-leveling their messaging. We discovered that the biggest risk point for malware in a given company was individual workers. Many companies believed you had to lock down user access in order to fully secure applications and data. This was a false trade. With Menlo Security you could protect against threats while also protecting user productivity. So, “securing work” became the higher level idea for the brand – a focus on securing the work that people do everyday and allowing them to work without worry. In terms of the visual identity, we evolved Menlo Security’s legacy light bulb logo to a more modern wordmark. The word splits into two parts, which speaks to Menlo’s isolation-powered technology platform. The lightning bolt shape of the “N” winks at the power of the platform. Rather than jump on classic security bandwagon visuals (cue eagles, hawks, owls, and falcons on dark backgrounds), we kept the brand light, modern, human, and friendly with colors not commonly used in the security space. This gave us a way to convey the concept of ease without having to say it. The bold and direct voice also highlights a human (and modern) vibe with clever and inventive wordplay. Smart turns of phrase demonstrate Menlo’s intelligence (and respect for the audience’s intelligence, too). There is always a unique breeziness to the messaging that aligns with the idea of work without worry. A huge step forward. I mean, HUGE! -Menlo Investor Ready to work with us – without worry? All rights reserved Privacy Policy Press Releases Home About Capabilities Work Blog Press Careers Contact Us Qlik Case Study - WHM Creative About Capabilities Work Blog Press Contact Us QLIK Becoming a hot prospect on the analytics meat market ■ BREAKING THE DATA MARKETING MOLD TO SCORE AWARENESS & ENGAGEMENT Data is a busy space. Even if you’ve got a stellar product, how do you get people to notice it—especially when everyone is pitching the same benefits the same way? (“Data into insights,” anyone?) Answer: You stop marketing like a B2B company and start selling yourself like the sexy, one-of-a-kind catch you are. Qlik wanted to drive awareness of their analytics and integration platform with something bold and unexpected. “Make us nervous,” they said. So, we turned to another crowded, competitive landscape—the singles scene—as inspiration, likening the hunt for the right data partner to the search for that perfect hunk or hottie. Risqué without getting too risky, this multi-channel campaign touted Qlik’s unique benefits in a fun way, grabbing the attention of prospects looking for a long-term relationship. SCOPE CAMPAIGN DEVELOPMENT OOH VIDEO SOCIAL PRINT DIRECT MAIL MEDIA STRATEGY INSIGHTS & ANALYTICS Your browser does not support the video tag. OPENING UP YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH DATA As more and more of the big guys get into data—your Googles, your Salesforces, your Microsofts—they pitch businesses on the idea of these holistic platforms: A one-stop shop for all things data. What they AREN’T talking about, though, is the data lock-in that may one day go hand-in-hand. Once they’ve got your data, if a platform decides to become a more possessive partner, you eventually might not be able to work with other companies’ tools and capabilities. Qlik is one of the last truly open, agnostic data platforms left, keeping your data in your hands, so you can use it exactly how, where, and when you want—including third-party tools. This started to spark some ideas. Every business has a relationship with data—but often it’s strained or complicated or controlling. There are benefits to a more open relationship with your data—and a better caliber of data partner. Your browser does not support the video tag. Your browser does not support the video tag. RAISING QLIK’S (DATING) PROFILE Building on the idea of data relationships, of wanting to find the right long-term partner, we came up with the creative framework of a data-based dating app: Data Dater. Using the familiar structure and rhythms of apps like Tinder–swiping, innuendo-filled profiles, cheesy pick-up lines—we’d highlight the fact that, yes, just like dating, it’s a dense playing field out there in data. (Often full of some real duds.) But, your perfect match is out there, ready to give you the features, benefits, and, most importantly, the open relationship you need. Your browser does not support the video tag. HITTING THE SCENE WITH A FULL CHARM OFFENSIVE Working across a variety of channels—including OOH, social, video, and a prominent print and digital partnership with the Fortune 500—we used the various touchpoints of the dating experience to show the many ways Qlik’s open, exploration-focused platform makes them the ideal, life-changing partner for you and your data. Designed to stand out in a sea of similar-looking marketing materials—are we sick of looking at bar charts yet?—faux profiles and chats used flirty imagery and playful double entendre that still spoke directly to data and what makes Qlik different. Different dating profiles were targeted to different audiences—because you wouldn’t try to seduce a CIO the same way as a CDO, right? IN THE FORTUNE 500 PRINT ISSUE… Insights ■ Marketing is like dating—there’s lots of competition, but the cream rises. Once we came up with the dating connection, we couldn’t stop seeing it—and what a good parallel it is for so much of what we do. Most businesses are working in a crowded market, vying for a limited amount of attention against many (seemingly) similar candidates. The secret is to find that thing that really sets you apart—not just what YOU think is great about yourself, but what matters to who you’re trying to connect with—and then putting yourself out there in a way that quickly grabs attention. Risqué is OK—if you’re still sending the right message. As we all know, B2B marketing has a bad reputation for being bland. But it doesn’t have to be. Audiences are as bored of boring marketing as we are—they’re ready for something shocking, funny, even a little scandalous. But, it’s not about being racy for its own sake—we aren’t 90s GoDaddy ads. Wit and charm and surprise are powerful tools only if they’re still strongly connected to a powerful message that will resonate with audiences. It all starts with the story—the right tone just gives it that extra oomph to grab attention and stick in people’s minds. Good ads borrow—great ads steal. (We stole this line.) Telling a complicated story is, well, complicated. Cribbing from shared experiences and familiar narrative frameworks like dating apps can be a useful shortcut for quickly connecting with audiences and telling your story in a way people already understand. Sometimes even the limited toolset of a particular framework can be a blessing: You’d think we’d eventually run out of data-related innuendos, but they provide a strong focal point—one area to keep mining, that keeps the campaign aligned and moving in the same direction. Unfortunately, reputation alone isn’t always enough. For one, B+G still fights the perception that injury lawyers are all just “ambulance chasers” looking out for themselves. And it doesn’t help that the space is getting crowded with less respectable firms with more aggressive marketing. B+G needed to evolve their brand to help them stand out from the crowd—the right way—keeping their integrity, reputation, and commitment to clients at the forefront. We helped B+G update their story, message, and look, while staying true to their legacy and building a stronger emotional connection with workers. SCOPE RESEARCH & COMPETITIVE AUDIT BRAND STRATEGY & POSITIONING VISUAL EXPRESSION TONE OF VOICE & MESSAGING BRAND STANDARDS PHOTOGRAPHY WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT CONTENT DEVELOPMENT MEDIA PLAN Your browser does not support the video tag. TRADITIONAL MEETS MODERN IN A BOLD NEW LOOK An established organization that can adapt to today’s needs requires a visual system that says both. We developed a bold color palette that combines the trustworthiness of blue and gold with a modern and powerful red. A unique typography solution couples a traditional serif font with a fresh and welcoming sans serif, capturing the same mix of classic and contemporary. Finally, the new word mark we designed pays homage to B+G’s start in the 70s, while looking ahead to what’s next. While B+G’s brand was evolving, one thing that hasn’t changed is the firm’s true commitment to focusing on workers. Most law firms center their imagery around their lawyers; with Boxer+Gerson, we wanted to make it clear that the workers are the heroes by making them the focal point of our photography. A WEBSITE IS CORE TO THE BRAND—AND TO GETTING WORKERS THE HELP THEY DESERVE With a new look and new messaging as our backbone, our next priority was to develop an updated Boxer+Gerson website—our best opportunity to connect with workers. Pulling from a rich cache of existing content, we designed and developed a new look and feel for the website, along with new navigation. A website audit revealed a number of opportunities to improve performance and visitation. Patching up technical glitches. Clearing up CTAs. The little things can make a big difference. LAUNCH SITE Your browser does not support the video tag. GUIDING WORKERS TO THE HELP THEY NEED For injured workers, finding and working with an attorney can feel confusing, overwhelming, and uncertain. Every page of the B+G website was designed to make navigating this process as simple, informative, and accessible as possible. Our goal was to make visitors to the site walk away feeling seen, confident, and empowered. Your browser does not support the video tag. Your browser does not support the video tag. REAL PEOPLE, REAL CONNECTION Workers want to partner with a law firm they can trust—real people who seem authentic and approachable, not cold and intimidating. Rather than your usual stuffy staff photography, we did a custom shoot to capture the B+G team as they truly are—real people who really want to help. And that meant shooting more than just the lawyers—it was important to Boxer+Gerson that we show their entire staff, reinforcing the idea that every job and every worker matters. 50 % INCREASE IN WEBSITE REFERRALS in the first month of the new site. 202 % IMPROVEMENT IN CLICKTHROUGH RATE with Google Ads. 24 % IMPROVEMENT IN CONVERSION with Google Ads. CONNECTING THE DOTS TO CONNECT WORKERS WITH B+G With the new Boxer+Gerson site in place, now it was all about getting workers to visit. SEO, SEM, and social were a good start, but we needed real-world material, too. We developed a robust media plan for B+G with a ton of content to back it up—print, radio, event booths, business collateral, and more. RADIO https://whmcreative.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/QLIK_30.mp3 WHM didn’t just come to understand our business. They became part of our business. -JUSTIN LITVACK MANAGING DIRECTOR, BOXER & GERSON Insights ■ Keep the focus on your audience, not you. We’ve all seen those tacky legal billboards along the highway—a big vanity photo of the partners, and a phone number with way too many 8s in it. But injured workers aren’t looking for your ego—they’re looking for help and an advocate who really understands them and what they need. By shifting focus to highlight the workers themselves, we showed where B+G’s commitment really lies, which helps build trust. Give the people what they actually want. Again, to pick on the ads from less respectable law firms, how often have you seen TV spots where a client says something like, “I just got $100 million in my lawsuit!” Once we talked to B+G clients, though, we discovered it’s not really about that—people just want to get their lives back to normal. Don’t just sell what you think is important or impressive—do the research and see what your audience is really looking for. Evolve, yes. But stay true to your spirit. In a competitive, changing marketplace, it’s important to stay fresh and stay relevant. But brand equity is too valuable to give up. Boxer+Gerson has an impeccable reputation, and while they needed to update for the next generation of lawyers and clients, we wanted to make sure we still spoke to their roots—capturing and maintaining the best parts of the existing brand, while leaving room for what’s to come.
