The theme, established by NFPA, highlights a risk for our community! A Big thanks to our community partners; IAFF Local 1974, the Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation, LPFD Reserves, Explorers, CERT, LPC Fire Service Technology Program, our COL & COP Police and COP Public Works partners, State Farm, and local school districts for making it all possible. We provide a Pancake Breakfast for our attendees. On average we serve over 1200 plates requiring 60+ lbs. of sausage, 300+ lbs. of pancake batter, 20+ gallons of orange juice and 25+ gallons of coffee. A Red Flag Warning is a temporary warning advising that an area is experiencing dangerous combination of temperature, wind, relative humidity, fuel, or drought during a time period. Hazard Mitigation Planning In partnership with nearby jurisdictions (Livermore, Pleasanton, Dublin, and the Dublin San Ramon Services District), the cities implement a hazard mitigation plan . Core Services Administration The Administration Division provides leadership, strategic direction, and support to ensure the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department operates effectively and efficiently. This team manages budget and resources, oversees personnel and training, coordinates interagency collaboration, and supports community outreach efforts. Administration ensures the department is equipped to meet current needs while planning for future challenges. Emergency Operations Emergency Operations is the front line of service, providing rapid response to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and natural disasters. Our Firefighters and Paramedics are trained and equipped to protect lives and property around the clock. This division also works closely with regional partners to coordinate large-scale incident response and disaster preparedness. Fire Suppression : Fire suppression is a foundational responsibility of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. Crews respond to fires in homes, businesses, vehicles, and open spaces to protect lives, property, and the environment. Using advanced training and equipment, firefighters work quickly to control and extinguish fires while minimizing damage and reducing risk to the community. Emergency Medical Response (EMS) : Emergency medical response is a critical mission of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. Teams of Firefighter/Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians provide both Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) during medical emergencies. Whether delivering lifesaving treatment on scene or during transport, they ensure residents receive rapid, professional, and compassionate care. Rescue Operations : Rescue operations represent another vital commitment of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. Firefighters are trained and equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including vehicle collisions, water rescues, confined space incidents, and technical rescues. These specialized efforts focus on saving lives and ensuring the safety of community members during critical and often complex situations. Hazardous Materials Response (HazMat) Hazardous materials response is a specialized service of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. Crews respond to incidents involving hazardous material releases that threaten life, property, or the environment. From gas leaks and chemical spills to incidents involving lithium-ion batteries, our personnel are trained and equipped to contain hazards, protect the community, and minimize environmental impact. Public Assistance Public assistance is an important community service provided by the department. Firefighters respond to non-fire emergencies such as children or pets locked in vehicles, individuals with mobility challenges needing help, and other urgent situations. By offering timely support in moments of need, the department strengthens community safety and provides reassurance to residents when it matters most. Training Facilitates training and coordination of the following programs: Fire Suppression training for Engine and Truck companies EMS training for all LPFD Personnel Firefighter recruit academies Probationary testing for new firefighters Promotional preparation and testing Annual Company Performance Evolution testing for Engine and Truck companies LPFD Reserve and Explorer Programs Safety training and injury prevention programs Fire Prevention and Safety Fire prevention and safety are cornerstones of the department’s mission. This service includes fire code enforcement, plan reviews for new developments, safety inspections, and public education programs. Joint Powers Authority (JPA) The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) provides shared resources and services between the cities of Livermore and Pleasanton. Operating under a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) model, the department unites resources to provide cost-effective prevention programs and high-quality emergency services across both communities. This collaborative framework streamlines administration and ensures the effective delivery of life-safety services—without the added overhead of a fully independent agency. Oversight is provided by the JPA Board of Directors, a subcommittee of the two City Councils, which establishes priorities, budgets, and goals. This collaborative event, hosted by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD) in partnership with IAFF Local 1974, with meals provided by the Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation—places participants in the role of a firefighter for a day.  Through interactive scenarios like wearing full gear, navigating search and rescue environments, and observing emergency operations, participants gain a firsthand understanding of the physical demands, critical decision-making, and teamwork required to keep communities safe. This program offers individuals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fire service while preparing them for a potential career in this field. Our reserves are trained in various aspects of firefighting, emergency medical services, and community outreach, ensuring they are well-equipped to assist during emergencies and public events. Training Requirements Recruitment Contact Us Training Reserve firefighters participate in structured training sessions held on the second and fourth Sundays of each month, excluding holidays. These sessions are conducted in a high-energy, disciplined, and positive environment, emphasizing the following areas: Fire suppression techniques Emergency medical services (EMS) Fire prevention and investigation Special rescue operations Public education and community outreach Training is aligned with California State Fire Marshal FF-1 standards, ensuring that reserves receive comprehensive and standardized instruction. Service Commitment In addition to scheduled training, reserve firefighters are required to contribute a minimum of twelve hours of service per month. Service activities include: Assisting with public education events Supporting training division operations Participating in community disaster preparedness initiatives Engaging in engine/truck company operations Providing assistance at major incident scenes These activities not only support the department’s operations but also provide reserves with valuable real-world experience. Requirements To be eligible for the Reserve Firefighter Program, candidates must meet the following criteria: Be at least 18 years of age Possess a valid California Driver License Successfully pass a Live Scan background check Hold a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card within one year of the application date Be a resident of either Livermore or Pleasanton, or be a current Los Positas College Fire Science student Assisting with public education events Supporting training division operations Participating in community disaster preparedness initiatives Engaging in engine/truck company operations Providing assistance at major incident scenes These activities not only support the department’s operations but also provide reserves with valuable real-world experience. Recruitment While recruitment for the Reserve Firefighter Program is currently closed, individuals interested in future opportunities are encouraged to submit an interest card.
