We accept applications year-round . Please note that our admissions process does not include a "pre‑application" review. Students who thrive at our school enjoy a  structured, fast‑paced program  with a  challenging curriculum , in which  second and third languages are introduced .  Children who enjoy our program align with our goals of academic excellence and demonstrate very good and appropriate behavior. Traditionally, our students are highly motivated and eager to learn. As part of the application process, the school must receive the student’s official academic transcript as well as letters of recommendation addressing both academic performance and behavior.  Ideally students should complete the registration process and payment for a Fall entrance one year prior. Please get started early!   Please see the online Application Procedures for New Students below. All required documents must be uploaded with the Application or emailed directly to the Admissions Office. Select the grade, complete, sign and upload the appropriate forms,  including the $200.00 non-refundable application fee.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email  [email protected] .  At our academic early childhood bilingual center, each year is designed to build essential skills and foster social growth. Children progress based on completing each year for readiness (Jr. Preschool, Preschool, K1, K2 and 1st grade), not by age alone, ensuring they have the foundation they need to succeed—integrating the next class level and/or skipping a grade are not options and it is not allowed. Families who are registered with the  Consulate in Los Angeles  and whose children are French citizens, may apply for the  bourse  if their child is three years of age or older before December 31 of the year for which they are applying. Before submitting your application to the French Consulate , students must first be accepted or enrolled at Le Lycée (the bourse application must be stamped and signed by Le Lycée Business Office) The French government establishes its own criteria for awarding the aid and it is only applicable to the French Section Program (FSP). Bourse recipients are NOT ELIGIBLE for LycéeLA Financial Aid. Results will be communicated by the French Consulate at the end of June for requests made in February and in December for requests made in September. Recipients of French bourse are expected to pay the balance of tuition and fees that are not covered by their award. The beauty is being able to stick around for 10-15 years to see the transformation take place! -Nuka S. - parent of Caleb S. (Class of 2020) Théâtre Raymond Kabbaz opened in June 2000. This rigorous system was established in the 18th century and is regulated by the French Ministry of Education. Updated programs and teaching directives are published several times a year in the  Bulletin officiel de l'Education nationale, de l'enseignement supérieur et de la recherche  (B.O.) and is used as a teaching reference by all teachers in the French School Program at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles. At our international French school in Los Angeles, all classes are taught in French with the exception of the English course. The French system is built on a somewhat precise sequence of learning tasks and it becomes less possible to enter the French School Program as the grades advance until it is virtually impossible to enter this program in middle school . This does not prevent students of any background who begin early enough from entering the French School Program. Some of the students who have scored best in the French Baccalaureate and the French International Baccalaureate are those who have come from English speaking households but have been Le Lycée students since early education . As with the International School Program students, Le Lycée tests the French School Program students with American standardized tests yearly as an assurance that the program is relevant to students who are planning to enter American colleges and universities. Who should consider this program? Can a student switch from FSP to ISP? Do students from ISP and FSP interact? Who should consider this program? This section is designed for non-speaking French students who start in Early Childhood at Le Lycée or a French-speaking student who wishes to follow the French Ministry of Education curriculum and/or attend college in the United States or in Francophone country and would like to learn predominately in FRENCH. Can a student switch from FSP to ISP? Students may switch to the International School Program (ISP) in consultation with the school and demonstrating necessary English language proficiency in all subjects.  Do students from ISP and FSP interact? Students in both programs interact at daily recess and lunch breaks, school events and field trips, sports and extracurricular activities. Le Lycée President Clara-Lisa Kabbaz explores intriguing facts and cherished memories from the Lycee’s rich history and traditions. Every week, a new topic, along with photos, is shared with the community.  Subjects include: Our Alma Mater, renowned parents and students like Christie Brinkley, Quincy Jones, our Drama program, etc. Walk down Memory Lane   “Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles was founded by my parents Raymond and Esther Kabbaz, in 1964; both were teachers at the Lycée in New York for several years. At the time the state of California prohibited schools from teaching in any language other than English. My parents petitioned in Sacramento to change the code of Education. Their historic effort paved the way for the opening of Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles and for the many other multilingual schools, such Armenian, Korean, etc. that now flourish in California. It has been a joy to grow up in this school and it has also been an honor to follow in my parents’ footsteps. We are blessed watching our students grow from preschoolers into knowledgeable, talented, and dedicated high school graduates who are motivated to go further and attend college with the determination to go out into the world and achieve greatness. Our international school remains one the most well-respected college-prep schools in Los Angeles known all over the world.”  — Clara-Lisa Kabbaz Esq. Our Curriculum The Middle School at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles consists of grades 6th, 7th and 8th, with both International and French School Programs. Our Los Angeles private middle school curriculum is designed to help students make the crucial transition from Elementary to High School. Developmentally, these are very important years for our students, and an interdisciplinary approach is used to help them hone their study skills as the coursework becomes increasingly demanding. There is an increase in homework at the Middle School level, and particular emphasis is placed on problem solving, writing, group and individual cross-over projects, teamwork, research techniques and resources, as well as the use of computer applications and an appreciation of goal-oriented organizational techniques. At this level, there are also increased opportunities for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Middle School has its own student council and newspaper.  As is true throughout the school, the  International School Program courses are taught in English and French is the academic language in the French School Program . While knowledge of French is not a prerequisite for admission, French and English language instruction is required of all students and pupils at all levels quickly become proficient. In the French School Program, a choice of a third language, either Spanish, German, or Mandarin Chinese is taught from 7th through 12th grade and is mandatory. Latin is mandatory of all 6th graders in the International School Program and in the French School Program. LyceeLA students are allowed to transfer from one section to another with faculty approval. The school’s credentialed staff provides the students with the resources they need to explore and grow into inquisitive young learners who develop readiness skills for elementary school. When walking through our West Los Angeles Early Childhood campuses, it is easy to see that the children are interested, happy, and safe. Play and learning are almost indistinguishable as the students are led in engaging activities. In spite of the recreational appearance of the activities, real work in the areas of early childhood development and learning is being accomplished. LyceeLA's multi-national teachers possess many creative and unique methods to tap into the child’s natural desire to learn as American and French teaching styles merge to create a dynamic approach. HITTING THEIR MARK -  LyceeLA AP Capstone Brochure  LyceeLA is one of nearly 3,500 schools world-wide to implement AP Capstone ™ - an innovative program that allows students to engage in the rigorous development of skills critical for success in college: inquiry, research, collaboration, and writing. The program includes a two-course sequence: AP Seminar and AP Research.    The AP Seminar course, typically taken in 10th or 11th grade, equips students with the power to explore academic and real-world issues through an interdisciplinary format and consider multiple points of view. Through a variety of materials students are challenged to explore complex questions, evaluate opposing viewpoints, develop, communicate, and defend their own opinion. The subsequent AP Research course, allows students to design, plan, and conduct a year-long mentored investigation on a topic of their choosing. They build on the skills learned in the AP Seminar course by using research methodology, employing ethical research practices, analyzing, and synthesizing information to present and defend an argument. AP Courses AP Courses Le Lycée offers a variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. While offerings may change from year to year based on enrollment and staffing, they may rotate regularly to ensure that we can offer more courses, they usually include: AP African American Studies AP Art History AP Biology AP Calculus AB AP Calculus BC AP Capstone: Research AP Capstone: Seminar AP Chemistry AP Chinese Language AP Comparative Govt. and Politics AP English Language AP English Literature  AP Environmental Science AP French Language  AP Human Geography AP Latin AP Macroeconomics AP Microeconomics AP Physics C: Mechanics AP Spanish Language AP Spanish Literature AP Statistics AP Studio Art: Drawing AP Studio Art: 2D Design AP Studio Art: 3D Design AP US Government and Politics AP US History 3261 Overland Avenue Los Angeles CA 90034 (310) 836-3464 Calendar (opens in new window/tab) Admissions Make a Gift (opens in new window/tab) Employment Facebook (opens in new window/tab) Instagram Youtube LinkedIn Privacy Policy Site Map Accessibility Powered by Finalsite Parent Committee | Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles Skip To Main Content Close Menu Search search-form#clearSearch'> Clear Search About Welcome Message 60 Years of Excellence Why Choose Le Lycée? Curriculum & Activities 2nd through 5th grades are located at the Main Campus on "Overland Hill". As students become more sophisticated, they are trained to think for themselves, encouraged to solve problems and become involved in research and resources. This is facilitated by collaborative projects in both the International and French Programs . Both sections benefit from a generous schedule of French and English coursework as well as Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Art, Computer Science, Music, and Physical Education. Students at our Los Angeles private elementary school learn from many resources as each campus has a full bilingual library, computer center, and garden. Class projects take center stage giving life like meaning to a student's learning and individual expression. Each campus has an  after-school program  consisting of various activities such as: Ballet, Fencing, Karate, Drama, and Sports . Students may also attend Study Hall and receive guidance in their academics and homework. By the end of the Fifth grade, they are unquestionably ready to tackle the demands of  middle school and can certainly move seamlessly into the  Middle School program at Le Lycée Français de Los Angeles. Instruction is in English  with the exception of the French class and other language classes. (Everyone at Le Lycée learns French regardless of section or prior knowledge.) What makes our international school program unique is its emphasis on a more analytical European style of education, including organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and a comprehensive point of view that includes exploration of the social and cultural relevancy and depth of the material. Students are tested with American standardized tests. Highlights: ISP students take Mandarin from 3rd-5th grade and this becomes an 'elective' course from 6th grade. Latin is required in 6th grade and an additional language (such as Spanish or German) is required starting in 9th grade. French is a required course in all grades, with English being the ISP core curriculum language. Who should consider this program? Can a student switch from ISP to FSP? Do students from ISP and FSP interact? Who should consider this program? This section is designed for the American and International student who wishes to attend college in the United States and would like to learn predominately in English, but   want to be exposed to diverse cultures and an international curriculum and community. Can a student switch from ISP to FSP? Students may switch to the French School Program (FSP) in consultation with the school and demonstrating necessary French language proficiency in all subjects. Students from FSP can equally switch to ISP with approval. Do students from ISP and FSP interact? Students in both programs interact at daily recess and lunch breaks, school events and field trips, and extracurricular activities.
