My concept aimed to restore the soul and grandeur of the 1933 property originally designed by Marston & Maybury , while introducing bold, elegant touches that reflect today’s design sensibilities. Marston, Van Pelt & Maybury IMAGE FROM PASADENA SHOWCASE The Journey Begins Designing the entrance staircase and second-floor landing to honor the original 1933 architecture by Marston & Maybury , I embarked on a journey to breathe new life into the foyer and vertical core of the home . IMAGE FROM MLS By carefully preserving historic details and weaving in modern design elements, I aimed to create a sense of grandeur that respects the past while embracing the future. Every step was documented—from before images to final installation—illustrating how each decision contributed to the transformation of both mood and form. IMAGE FROM MARBÉ DESIGNS A Space Curated as Art Curating a space as a work of art involves layering textures, tones, and intentional moments. Custom furniture, curated art pieces, and rich materials converged to create a design narrative that told a story beyond aesthetics. In addition to carefully selecting furniture and decor, I incorporated custom items and curated special art pieces, adding a unique touch to elevate the space to new heights of sophistication. IMAGE BY MARBÉ DESIGNS AT Markowicz Fine Art Murano Moments: Where Craftsmanship Shines From Murano glass to hand-painted finishes , each choice reflected a pursuit of beauty , craftsmanship , and innovation —clearly visible in the shots where I hand-selected pieces directly, ensuring every detail aligned with the vision of artisanal elegance and timeless design. BLOWN GLASS WITH 24K GOLD FROM STUDIO BEL VETRO REPRESENTED BY QUINTUS A Fusion of Influences: Modern Meets Tradition Blending traditional and modern design was one of the most rewarding challenges. Inspired by Murano glass and gold leaf, I brought in rich materials that shimmered under natural light and elevated the home’s existing architecture. One highlight was the “cashmere” pearlescent wall texture , handcrafted by Ecla Decoration , which added depth and movement to the staircase wall. CARMEN TURE BY ÉCLA DECORATION WORKING ON THE “CASMERE” PEARLESCENT WALL Lighting as Sculpture Within the grandeur of the Pasadena Showcase House, I wanted to guide visitors on a journey of shimmering brightness. To accomplish this, I selected a crystal chandelier by Studio Bel Vetro , represented by Quintus , which served as both a functional light source and a sculptural statement. Complementing the chandelier was a celestial mural by KOHRO , a poetic nod to the previous owner’s love for Hawaii and natural beauty. INSTALLING CHANDELIER BY STUDIO BEL VETRO REPRESENTED BY QUINTUS Details that Tell a Story Trimmings by Houles France , including ornamental tassels and Art Déco accents , were woven into the design to infuse timeless charm. These details echoed influences from sixteenth-century France , aligning perfectly with my European design DNA. INSTALLING THE SARASVATI WALL COVERING BY KOHRO REPRESENTED BY QUINTUS  Blending Ornamental Tassels and Art Déco Trimmings Blending elements from sixteenth-century France, I incorporated ornamental tassels and Art Déco trimmings into the design. These exquisite details added a sense of history and timeless beauty to the space. Houles France , renowned for their craftsmanship, provided the ornamental tassels for its new collection, which I had recently seen at the Déco Off Design show in Paris (this blog is coming up). It also resembles my DNA and adorns vital elements of the design.
