Our Technology & Media Curriculum Personal Chromebook for Middle School Students Each Middle school student is issued a new Chromebook for school and home use. Students use their Chromebook as a tool in every subject. Math, science, language arts, and Bible all have digital reference tools. Students become proficient at using Google products for all types of information and media projects. The Chromebook is integrated as a normal part of producing assignments and achieving learning goals. Digital Citizenship Each student is taught how to use the internet safely, effectively, and appropriately. There are safeties and controls on all of our digital tools to ensure students are not exposed to inappropriate or unsafe content. Students will learn to self-monitor and engage with technology responsibly and respectfully. Elementary Mobile Chromebook Lab We have 25 brand new Chrome books that are available for our Elementary Classrooms (Grades 2-5). Students have technology class two to three times a week. In addition to completing projects using Google products, we deliver programs such as Keyboarding Without Tears, Dreambox Math, Spelling City and Writing Apps for quality integrated instruction and application. iPad Mini Lab Our iPad Lab for Kindergarten and First Grade with special math and language arts apps for little fingers to begin to explore technology skills and reading. iPad Mini Lab This easy-to-launch STEM program inspires students to learn a variety of 21st Century disciplines while running experiments on the International Space Station. Students engage in science and engineering by developing an experiment on the ground which is then conducted on the ISS utilizing the LEGO Mindstorms® or Arduino* coding environment. Description Before School Daycare Program (7:00 – 8:15am , Monday – Friday) After School Daycare Program (3:15 – 5:30pm , Monday – Friday) serves approximately 40 children in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The students begin with a nutritional snack. After snack, they go outside to unwind from their day and participate in supervised recreational and enrichment activities. Homework support takes place daily from 4pm-5:30pm. Homework Support Every student in the Extended Daycare Program is given time to improve their reading skills, to study, and to work on homework. Support is available from the after school staff and volunteers. Enrichment Activities The Extended Daycare Program also provides enrichment activities. These activities utilize the talents/hobbies brought in by staff and volunteers in the areas of art, dance, cooking, nutrition, and sports. Applications are now open for new scholarships for the school year. To have the best chance of getting funding we strongly advise families to apply by March 15, but we will be accepting applications up until July 31. Applications received after the March 15, deadline will be placed on a wait-list. The BASIC Fund The BASIC Fund provides scholarships on a first-come, first-served basis to families in financial need. The awards are based on household size and income and cover up to $2,000 of the tuition per child each school year. MCA has authorization under federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students. MCA is an I-17 approved school and can initiate I-20 visas for foreign exchange students. Our buildings are 30 miles north of San Francisco and located in Marin County, which is the fifth wealthiest county in the United States. New Life recognized the need to impart a Christian worldview to their children in a supportive, loving atmosphere that would also uphold a high academic standard. Marin Christian Academy was created to meet that need and has been dedicated to upholding that vision for the past few decades. The school began with hosting students in preschool through sixth grade. In the subsequent years, the school expanded to accommodate middle school students in 1982-83. The school continued to grow, and in 1989, MCA received its full accreditation from ACSI. A new church facility was completed in August 1993, which housed Noah’s Ark Preschool, Marin Christian Academy (K-5) and Middle School (6-8). The facility underwent a major re-design in 2014. Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, MCA and North Bay Christian Academy merged together to provide a continuum of quality education and academic excellence from preschool through high school. The two schools, less than a half-mile from each other in central Novato, see the partnership as an ideal match to best serve students and families in the greater North Bay. Noah’s Ark Preschool and all K-6 classes are held at the Marin Christian Academy campus and all middle school and high school classes are held at the North Bay Christian campus. Joint efforts result in an average student to teacher ratio of 14:1 for each grade. The staff at Marin Christian Academy is composed of experienced, credentialed teachers who are dedicated Christians, and attend churches of various Christian denominations throughout the Bay Area. Mr. Christopher Mychajluk has been in school administration for over a decade, and he became Head of School of MCA in 2016.
