They offer a safe, non-invasive way to address a variety of skin issues, such as wrinkles, age spots, stretch marks, and acne scars. But what exactly is skin laser treatment and how can it help you? Let’s explore the benefits of skin laser treatments and why they may be right for you.   The Basics of Skin Laser Treatment   Skin laser treatments involve using a concentrated beam of light to target specific areas on your face or body. The laser beam breaks up pigmented cells in your skin, which results in smoother and more even toned skin. Depending on your individual needs, your aesthetician might recommend a single session or multiple sessions to get the desired results.   What Does It Treat The beauty of  laser treatments is that they can treat almost any type of skin issue. From sun spots to wrinkles to acne scars, there’s no limit to what this technology can do for you! The best part is that it does all this without harming the surrounding tissue or causing any lasting side effects. And since skin lasers don't require incisions or injections like other treatments do, recovery time is minimal. You can expect to be back out and about just hours after your appointment!   Benefits of Skin Laser Treatments   Aside from its ability to improve the look and feel of your skin, there are many other benefits associated with skin laser treatment. For starters, it’s incredibly safe and effective when done by an experienced professional; second, it has very few side effects; thirdly it’s incredibly fast—most procedures take less than an hour; fourthly it helps reduce wrinkles and fine lines; finally it helps restore youthful looking complexion by improving texture and tone. Plus if you have sensitive skin then this type of treatment might be perfect for you because lasers won't irritate sensitive areas!   At Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills , we offer a variety of laser treatments to help you achieve your desired results. Whether you are looking for skin rejuvenation or want to target specific areas, our experienced team will help create a customized treatment plan that best suits your needs. Schedule an appointment today and see how a skin laser treatment  can give you the youthful, beautiful complexion you have always dreamed of!    Home > Book Now Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. We offer same-day mole removal. How do I know if my mole is cancerous? There are many different kinds of moles or nevi. Moles are formed when skin cells grow in a cluster. These skin cells are called melanocytes, which give its skin color. The 4 most common types of moles are dysplastic nevi, congenital moles, acquired nevi, and spitz nevi. Dysplastic nevi are typically referred to as an abnormal mole. Characteristics that make a mole abnormal include being larger in size, having uneven edges, or moles that grow over time. This is one of the common types of moles that can transform into melanoma. Congenital moles are moles you were born with and are normal.  Acquired nevi are moles you were not born with. Having over 50 of these can put you at greater risk for melanoma. Spitz Nevi are the least common type of moles. These moles are often raised, pink, and can be dome shaped. Sometimes these moles have different colors within the mole such as black and brown. These are often tough to distinguish from melanoma without a biopsy.   How do you remove moles? There are several ways to remove bothersome or suspicious moles. At our office, we can use our lasers to destroy the pigment in the mole. This requires no cutting and has zero to minimal downtime. We can also remove the mole by simply cutting it from the surface of the skin. We pay particular attention to preserving the cosmetic appearance of the skin during these mole removals. We remove moles every day so you are in great hands! What is a chemical peel?   A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that we commonly do at our practice for a variety of skin conditions. A series of chemical solutions are applied to the skin, usually the face and neck, and it causes the top layer of skin to peel off over the course of the next couple of days to weeks. Who should get a chemical peel? A chemical peel is a great treatment for most people! It is an excellent treatment for acne, acne scars, melasma, sun spots, pre-cancers, skin texture, and many other skin conditions. They improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while also smoothing the texture of the skin. Schedule a consultation with us at (310) 888-8877 to find out if you are a good candidate for a chemical peel. Book Online Schedule a Consultation Today What should I expect during a chemical peel? Preparation: The skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped for the peel. Application: We apply one of our proprietary chemical solutions to the skin. We have many different types of chemical peels and we will choose the right peel based on our consultation. Peeling and neutralization: The chemical solution is left on the skin for a specific period, allowing it to penetrate and exfoliate the outer layers. During this time, some individuals may experience a mild tingling or burning sensation. We closely monitor the skin's response and neutralize the peel with water or a neutralizing solution when the desired level of exfoliation is achieved.  Aftercare: After the peel, we apply sunscreens to the treated skin. We also recommend daily moisturizing with a thick moisturizer such as Vaseline.    What is the aftercare for my chemical peel?   Aftercare for a chemical peel includes avoiding direct sunlight, wearing sunscreen, and avoiding harsh skincare products like retinoic acid, exfoliating products, and hydroquinone for 7 days or until the peeling stops. You may apply frequent Vaseline or lotion to the treated area to help soothe the area. We advise to avoid washing the face for 8 hours to get optimal results.    What will my skin look like after a chemical peel? You can expect some mild redness, peeling, or swelling, depending on the strength of the chemical peel performed.    How many times do I need to do a chemical peel?   With each chemical peel we aim to give the aim desired results. However, for best results, we recommend a series of at least three chemical peels over time.   How long do I have to wait before my next chemical peel? We recommend waiting about 4 weeks between chemical peels.    Can I do Botox or laser treatments on the same day as a chemical peel? Yes! Let us know your desired treatments in advance, and we will do them in an order that allows you do them all on the same day. See a Chemical Peel in Action! A PICO laser is a type of advanced laser technology that delivers ultra-short bursts of energy—measured in picoseconds (one trillionth of a second)—to target pigment in the skin without causing significant heat damage to surrounding tissue. PICO Laser What skin concerns can be treated with a PICO laser? The PICO laser is versatile and can be used for a variety of skin concerns, including: Sunspots Melasma Tattoo removal Uneven skin tone or texture *Safe in most skin types* What can I expect during a PICO laser treatment? During the treatment, you may feel a light snapping or tingling sensation. Most sessions are quick—often 15 to 30 minutes—depending on the area being treated. Numbing cream is usually not necessary as the laser treatment is tolerable but it may be applied beforehand for added comfort. After the PICO laser treatment, there will be some white spotting, mild redness, and swelling to the areas treated, indicating that the laser was effective. Downtime is usually minimal and the skin will heal fully in 1-2 weeks. You can return to normal activities shortly after the procedure and sun protection is strongly advised.  How many treatments will I need? The number of sessions varies depending on the condition being treated. Some patients see improvement after just one session, but two to three treatments—spaced several weeks apart—may be recommended for optimal results. That’s why it’s so important to get regular skin cancer screenings. A skin cancer test can help detect any abnormal changes on your skin and allow you to take action before it’s too late. Let’s take a look at why getting a skin cancer test is so important for your health.   Early Detection Is Key   When it comes to treating skin cancer, early detection is key. The earlier you find and treat any abnormal growths or changes on your skin, the better chances you have of preventing serious health complications. A skin cancer screening can help diagnose any suspicious spots that may be precancerous or even malignant melanoma—the most dangerous form of skin cancer—so that they can be removed or treated right away. It’s important to keep in mind that not all suspicious spots are an indication of skin cancer; however, a professional diagnosis will be able to tell for sure.   UV Radiation Risk Factors   It’s also important to understand that UV radiation from the sun isn’t the only risk factor for developing skin cancer. Other risk factors include fair complexion, family history of melanoma, weakened immune system due to certain medications such as immunosuppressants, and having more than 50 moles on your body. If you fall into one or more of these categories, then it’s especially important for you to get regular screenings for early detection and prevention of any further health risks associated with developing any kind of skin cancer.    Protect Yourself With Sunscreen   In addition to regular screenings, wearing sunscreen is one of the best ways to protect yourself against UV radiation exposure that could lead to developing some form of skin cancer down the road. Sunscreen should be applied liberally 20 minutes before going outdoors and should be reapplied every two hours or after swimming/sweating excessively during outdoor activities throughout the day when needed. Wearing protective clothing such as hats and long-sleeved shirts as well as avoiding peak hours in direct sunlight (between 10am – 4pm) can also help reduce your risk factor significantly when combined with proper sunscreen use and routine screening tests.    At Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills, we understand the importance of regular skin cancer screenings and strive to provide our patients with the best quality care possible. Our experienced dermatologists are dedicated to helping you protect your health by detecting any abnormal changes early on. Contact us today to schedule an appointment for your next skin cancer screening.   Home > Book Now Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. Learn about our acne treatment options, offered in our Beverly Hills office.  What is acne? Acne, also known as acne vulgaris or “common acne,” is given its name because it is a very common skin disorder, affecting approximately 85% of young people. It usually begins at puberty but can also occur in babies and older adults. It occurs when hair follicles fill with oil and dead skin cells, which causes an inflammatory reaction. If severe enough and left untreated, acne can lead to acne scars. Acne can range from comedones or “blackheads and whiteheads” to the more severe form, nodules and cysts. What causes acne? There is a genetic predisposition so you should be more proactive if you have siblings or parents with a history of acne. It can also be triggered by lifestyle factors such as food choices or stress. How do you treat acne? We specialize in treating acne of all ages with all skin types. We offer a variety of topical medications, laser treatments, chemical peels, and light therapy to improve acne and acne scars. For our patients that prefer to avoid any medications, we adopt a more holistic but equally effective approach by utilizing state-of-the-art lasers and light therapy, which have zero downtime. Treatment regimens are always tailored to the individual to deliver personalized results. How do you treat acne scars? We treat acne scars with laser treatments, such as Vbeam laser, microneedling, or ablative lasers, such as Erbium laser. These treatments target the redness and distorted skin texture and provide a resurfacing effect. We also utilize chemical peels, which cause a skin reaction and subsequent exfoliation which resurface the scars and help improve the residual discoloration from acne.  Lastly, we have our own proprietary acne scar treatment called collagen stimulating solution which involves injecting each scar with a needle and solution to elicit a healing process which builds new collagen and elastin.  Book Online Schedule a Consultation Today Acne and Acne Scar Treatment Videos: Laser Treatments & Chemical Peels See some of our popular treatment options in action including Vbeam laser and chemical peels! Acne is caused by the skin pores becoming blocked by hair, sebum (an oily substance), bacteria and dead skin cells. Those blockages produce blackheads, whiteheads, nodules and other types of pimples. Acne can be triggered by a variety of causes including genetics, hormones, stress, changes in weather, and use of certain products. While many people think of acne as affecting teenagers, it affects people of all ages.   Acne can be classified in different ways. Whiteheads- these are small bumps that are white or flesh colored. Whiteheads occur when pores become clogged with excess oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells.   Blackheads-there are small bumps that appear black in color. When your pores fill with debris but stays open, you’ll see a blackhead.   Topical medications including creams and washes are able to treat these. We also are able to treat these with extractions and LASERs.   Pustules- these contain a yellowish fluid, often with a white-colored center.   Nodular acne- nodules occur when clogged, swollen pores endure further irritation and grow larger, these are deeper underneath the skin. These are deep within the skin and often scar.   Cystic acne- cysts can develop when pores are clogged by a combination of bacteria, sebum, and dead skin cells. These are deep within the skin and often scar.     These types of acne penetrate deep into the skin, and can cause permanent acne scars when they heal. The sooner you start treatment, the fewer permanent scars you’ll have. Treatment options include various lasers, chemical peels, and photodynamic therapy. Newman Dermatology offers laser options for all skin types. Ask us about the right treatment option for your skin. What is a keloid?  A keloid is a type of raised scar that occurs where the skin has healed after an injury. Unlike regular scars, keloids are larger, extend beyond the boundaries of the original wound, and can continue to grow over time. They are formed when the body produces excess collagen during the healing process. Keloids can be reddish, purplish, or darker than the surrounding skin, and they are usually smooth, firm, and shiny.   Keloids can develop after various types of skin injuries, including cuts, burns, surgical incisions, piercings, acne, or even minor scratches. While they are not harmful, they can be itchy, tender, and may cause discomfort or emotional distress due to their appearance.   Treatment options for keloids include corticosteroid injections, laser therapy, cryotherapy (freezing), surgery, silicone sheets, or pressure therapy. However, keloids can be challenging to treat, and sometimes they may recur after treatment. A cyst is a sac-like structure filled with fluid, semi-solid material, or air that develops in the body. They can occur in different organs and tissues, and treatment options vary based on the type, size, and location of the cyst. Common approaches include observation, drainage, surgical removal, or medication.   How do you remove cysts?  Some small cysts can be left alone. However, cysts can grow or become inflamed over time. Do not try to drain the cyst yourself, as it can become infected and painful! We recommend that you schedule an office visit with us to see if we need to drain the cyst, inject it with a local steroid to pacify the inflammation, or to treat a possible infection. If we think it is infected, we will collect a culture of the fluid and send it to the lab to confirm and we may prescribe you antibiotics.   The removal of the cyst consists of us injecting the cyst with a local anesthetic to numb the area. Then, we drain the cyst and remove the sac so that the cyst is completely removed and does not reoccur. We may need to place sutures depending on the size of the cyst. We remove the sutures after 7-14 days. Please contact our office if you have a cyst. Cysts that are left untreated or that are picked at can become infected.      Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. A dermatologist can provide you with the perfect solution. With their expertise in skin treatments, they can help you achieve the results you desire. Let’s take a look at how a dermatologist can help with hyperpigmentation treatment.   What is Hyperpigmentation?   Hyperpigmentation is the darkening of an area of skin due to an increase in melanin production, which gives skin its color. It occurs when melanocytes—the cells that produce melanin—become overactive and produce too much pigment. Common causes include sun exposure, hormonal changes, certain medications, and certain skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.   How a Dermatologist Can Help   A dermatologist is trained in all facets of skin health and can diagnose the cause of your hyperpigmentation and recommend an effective treatment plan. Depending on the type of hyperpigmentation you have, they may suggest topical creams or peels to lighten the affected areas. They may also suggest laser treatments or injections to reduce discoloration. Your dermatologist will work with you to develop a customized plan that targets your specific needs and goals.   In addition to treating hyperpigmentation, dermatologists can provide advice on how to prevent it from occurring again in the future. They can suggest lifestyle changes such as avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing protective clothing when outdoors; they can also recommend products such as sunscreen with SPF 30+ that protect against further damage from UV rays.    At Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills, we specialize in providing the highest level of personalized care to each and every patient. Our team of experienced dermatologists can provide you with a personalized plan to address your hyperpigmentation concerns. A dermatologist can provide you with the perfect solution. With their expertise in skin treatments, they can help you achieve the results you desire. Let’s take a look at how a dermatologist can help with hyperpigmentation and acne treatment during pregnancy. Check out Dr. Gabriella Newman's discussion about the most popular skin related questions during pregnancy on the Informed Pregnancy Podcast. Why are women more likely to get melasma while pregnant?   Hyperpigmentation or melasma is the darkening of an area of skin due to an increase in melanin production, which gives skin its color. It occurs when melanocytes—the cells that produce melanin—become overactive and produce too much pigment. During pregnancy, there are elevated levels of estrogen and progesterone which stimulate more melanin. The darkening affect most prominently affects the face, nipples, and causes a vertical stripe from the belly button to the pubic bone.    How can a dermatologist help treat melasma in pregnancy? Dermatologists can use a combination of topical medications, prevention strategies, and in-office treatments to treat melasma during pregnancy. In general, pregnancy safe medications include Vitamin C and Azelaic Acid and the best prevention strategies include sun protection with zinc oxide. After pregnancy and nursing, bleaching medications like hydroxyquinone and exfoliators like retinoids are effective melasma treatment options. After pregnancy, we can also utilize highly effective treatments like chemical peels and laser treatment to dramatically improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation.   Contact us today to learn more about  Hyperpigmentation Treatments by Dermatologist.    Why are women more likely to get acne while pregnant?   Elevated progesterone levels can stimulate more sebaceous glands to produce more oil, potentially leading to clogged pores and acne.   How can a dermatologist help treat acne in pregnancy? In general, pregnancy safe medications include vitamin C, Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Lactic Acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, and Erythromycin/Clindamycin. It is best to avoid medications such as retinoids and salicylic acid. In our office, we also offer pregnancy safe treatments like blue light or red light treatments for acne.  While lactating, there are many laser treatments that are considered safe. Many people have turned to medical and cosmetic dermatology treatments to help enhance their skin care routine. These treatments can improve the health and appearance of your skin, as well as make you feel more confident in your own body. Let’s explore how medical and cosmetic dermatology can benefit you.   What Is Medical Dermatology?   Medical dermatology encompasses a variety of treatments that address common skin issues such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and warts. These treatments often involve medications or topical ointments to reduce inflammation or infection. Depending on the severity of the condition, a medical dermatologist may also perform minor procedures such as freezing warts with liquid nitrogen or removing cysts.   What Is Cosmetic Dermatology?   Cosmetic dermatology focuses on improving the aesthetic look of the skin rather than treating any underlying conditions. Popular procedures include laser hair removal, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and fillers to reduce wrinkles and fine lines caused by aging. Botox injections are used to temporarily reduce frown lines between the eyebrows for a smoother complexion. If you are looking for an anti-aging solution that does not involve surgery, then these types of treatments might be perfect for you!   Benefits Of Medical And Cosmetic Dermatology   Medical and cosmetic dermatology offer several advantages over traditional methods of skincare such as scrubs or moisturizers alone. Not only do these treatments provide immediate results that can last for weeks to months depending on which type you choose, but they also focus on targeting specific areas instead of creating a general effect across your entire face or body. Furthermore, with medical dermatology procedures like cyst removals there is less risk involved compared to using home remedies like popping pimples yourself!   At Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills, we offer a wide range of medical and cosmetic dermatology services to help you achieve healthy, glowing skin. From laser hair removal to chemical peels, our team can customize treatments to your unique needs and goals. Schedule an appointment with us today to start transforming the look and feel of your skin!   Home > Book Now Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. They tend to increase in number with age.   Can these be treated?  Yes!! These can be removed by laser therapy. Often disappearing after a single session (depending on size).   Broken Capillaries  Broken capillaries or small vessels can be removed using a variety of techniques, including LASER therapy and electro pottery. below are some photos that show immediate before and after results with electrocautery to remove or treat broken blood vessels. Non-scarring hair loss is more common and responds better to consistent treatment. Non-scarring alopecia mainly consists of androgenic alopecia ,  alopecia aerata , and telogen effluvium . Scarring hair loss is less common and much harder to treat What is male or female pattern baldness?  Male/female-pattern baldness, also known as androgenic alopecia, occurs due to the combined effect of genetic predisposition and male hormones. In men, the pattern of hair loss usually occurs from front to back and can begin any time after puberty! In women, hair loss usually starts from the midline and extends outwards. You will notice the hair thinning until the eventual loss of hair completely. How do you treat male pattern baldness?  Based on your gender, clinical presentation, and needs, we can treat these forms of hair loss with oral finasteride, topical minoxidil, anti-androgen medications like spironolactone, and light lasers. Ask us about PRP injections which are a very popular way to treat baldness in both men and women.   How are PRP injections performed? The "platelet rich plasma" is extracted from your blood like any other blood draw. Then, the blood is spun in a centrifuge and the different cells in the blood separate into different layers based on their density. Only the platelets are extracted, which are rich in growth factors and elastin, and they stimulate stem cell production. The platelets are then injected into the scalp. The entire procedure takes about 60 minutes and we recommend at least 3 sessions separated by 4-6 weeks.  Male/Female Pattern Baldness Localized Hair Loss Hair Loss Injections What is alopecia  areata?  Alopecia Areata is a localized loss of hair in oval patches with no apparent inflammation or scarring. It is associated with autoimmune disease and stress. The hair can sometimes grow back spontaneously. How do you treat alopecia areata? If you want to maximize results, we can treat this with local steroid injections and focus on reducing stress or controlling any other underlying disorder. We can also utilize multiple sessions of light therapy.   What is telogen effluvium? Telogen effluvium is the diffuse shedding of hair due to the accelerated growth phase to the resting phase of the hair cycle. It is due to high levels of stress or another underlying disorder such as a nutritional deficiency. The good news is that it is not permanent and will stop once the underlying trigger is addressed. Treatment for this depends on the trigger and you should seek medical attention in order to prevent further hair loss. What is scarring hair loss? Scarring hair loss results from the complete destruction of the hair follicle cells. Once the scarring occurs, it is usually irreversible . However, you should see our office immediately in order to prevent the expansion of the scarring. We must treat scarring hair loss aggressively, requiring several sessions of local steroid injections. It is a nerve disease that is diagnosed in childhood and the neurofibromas are the multiple skin-colored bumps that grow on the skin. They are usually painless but can be considered cosmetically unappealing.   How do you treat neurofibromas?  Even though neurofibromas are rare, our office has treated many neurofibromas and we offer several options. We can remove the small neurofibromas by "burning" them off the skin or by cutting them from the skin. If they are larger, we can inject them with a steroid to try to shrink them. If you have these rare neurofibromas, contact our office to we can discuss the best treatment option for you.   Hyperhidrosis or "Excessive Sweating" What is Hyperhidrosis? Have you noticed that you are always excessively and abnormally sweating compared to the people around you? Not only are you uncomfortable and hot, but you're also trying to avoid showing your sweat stains and the smell of your body odor. If this sounds like you, you may have hyperhidrosis. It can cause a lot of social anxiety and embarrassment and can deeply affect the people who have it.   How do you treat hyperhidrosis? The good news is there are treatments available for hyperhidrosis. There are different topical and oral medications available that decrease the production of sweat from your sweat glands. The class of these medications are called anticholinergics . We can also inject botox in the locations of excessive sweating such as your scalp and underarms. Our patients are very happy with the botox because it can last up to 6 months and they don't have to worry about their hyperhidrosis for many months. And don't worry, we inject a safe amount into these regions and they don't affect your use of your major muscles in those areas. Contact our office to schedule a consultation to find the best treatment for you.   PCOS What is PCOS? Vbeam laser is a pulsed dye laser (PDL) technology that works by targeting the blood vessels and melanin in the skin. It uses a 595nm wavelength laser, which is safe and effective for use on all skin types. The laser emits a gentle pulse of light that is absorbed by the targeted blood vessels and melanin, causing them to heat up and collapse. This process helps to reduce the appearance of unwanted vessels, redness, and discoloration. Additionally, Vbeam laser is a safe treatment as it includes a built-in cooling system that protects the skin during the procedure. What Conditions Can Vbeam be used for? The Vbeam laser is a popular treatment option for many dermatological conditions. It can be used as part of a holistic treatment plan to reduce redness, treat broken capillaries, improve skin texture, and remove unwanted pigmentation. Vbeam can also be used to treat rosacea, acne, melasma, and scars. It is effective in reducing symptoms of skin aging, including wrinkles, fine lines, and sun spots. Vbeam can also be used to reduce the appearance of stretch marks and to improve the overall tone and texture of the skin. Vbeam is an excellent choice for those seeking to reduce redness and improve their skin's appearance. Vbeam for Acne Vbeam is a non-invasive laser treatment that works by targeting the bacteria and inflammation associated with acne, and can also help to reduce redness and scarring. The benefits of using Vbeam for acne include improved skin clarity, reduced inflammation, and a faster recovery time than other acne treatments. Leg veins are very common. Superficial leg veins are visible and benign and can cause insecurities about showing your legs. They occur when the valves in your veins weaken, cause backflow of blood, which results in bulging of the vein. Their dark blue or purple appearance can be improved with two main treatment options at our office.    Who is at risk for visible leg veins?  Visible leg veins are more common as we age. It is also genetic so you are more likely to develop leg veins if members of your family have them. Pregnancy, sunlight, and injuries are put you at risk as well.   How do you treat leg veins like spider veins and varicose veins?  Small spider veins may be eliminated or lightened with a specialized laser. The laser picks up the hemoglobin in the veins and can immediately cause lightening of the veins. You may feel some brief discomfort from the laser but many of our patients tolerate the laser without any complaints. You will likely need multiple sessions with the laser for optimal results.    Larger leg veins will need an FDA-approved procedure called sclerotherapy. We will inject a medication into the veins which causes the veins to collapse. You will see results immediately and continued shrinkage over the course of the next few weeks or months. After the procedure, you should wear a compression bandage and walk for 20 minutes. Best results will be achieved with 2-3 sessions of sclerotherapy. If you have a history of blood clots you may not be a candidate for this treatment.    Both our laser therapy and sclerotherapy procedure are great options for leg vein treatment. You may return to work and continue regular activity after both treatments. Call or text our office to schedule a consultation to see which treatment is best for you.  Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. The skin cells get trapped in a sac-like pocket and fill with a liquid or semisolid substance that may cause inflammation and pain. Cysts can occur anywhere in the body. Common Causes of Cysts Blocked Ducts or Glands: Cysts can form when sebaceous or milk ducts become blocked. Infections: Infections like abscesses or parasitic conditions can lead to cyst development. Inflammation: Conditions like PCOS and ganglion cysts often arise from inflammation or hormonal imbalances. Genetic Factors: Inherited conditions like polycystic kidney disease (PKD) can cause cysts. Injury or Trauma: Physical trauma may result in cysts forming in bones or soft tissues. Developmental Abnormalities: Cysts like dermoid cysts form due to issues during fetal development. Hormonal Changes: Ovarian cysts often develop due to menstrual cycle hormonal shifts. Chronic Skin Conditions: Acne can lead to cystic lesions from blocked and inflamed pores. Tumors: Some cysts form as part of cystic tumors or growths. Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. Understanding Moles & Skin Tags: What You Need to Know At Newman Dermatology, we understand that skin health is as unique as the individuals we serve. Moles and skin tags are common skin conditions, and while often benign, they require our attention and understanding. Moles are small, pigmented spots on the skin that can appear at any age. They emerge when skin cells, known as melanocytes, grow in clusters rather than being distributed evenly across the skin. While most moles are harmless (benign), some types can evolve into malignant moles, a type of skin cancer known as melanoma. Melanoma is a serious condition, but early detection and treatment often lead to positive outcomes. Knowing the difference between a typical mole and a potentially problematic one is key to maintaining skin health. The ABCDE rule is a simple guide to distinguish between benign and abnormal moles. 'A' stands for Asymmetry - a benign mole is usually symmetrical while an abnormal one isn't. 'B' is for Border - benign moles have smooth and even borders, while malignant moles often have uneven or notched edges. 'C' signifies Color; benign moles are usually a single shade of brown, but malignant moles may have different shades or colors. 'D' is for Diameter; benign moles are usually less than 6mm in diameter, but malignant moles may be larger. Lastly, 'E' stands for Evolving; if your mole changes in size, shape, or color over time, it's important to consult a dermatology expert immediately. At Newman Dermatology, we're here to assist you in understanding these nuances and addressing your skin concerns promptly and professionally. Book Online Schedule a Consultation with Dr. Newman Why Mole Removal is Important Mole removal is a crucial aspect of maintaining both your health and self-confidence. Medically, while many moles are benign, some can pose a significant health risk. Certain moles may evolve into melanoma, a type of skin cancer. By opting for mole removal, you can eliminate this potential risk. Timely removal not only ensures that the abnormal mole doesn't have a chance to progress into something more dangerous, but it also allows for a thorough biopsy to detect any early signs of skin cancer. We cannot stress enough how early detection plays a pivotal role in successful treatment. Beyond health reasons, mole removal can also be important for cosmetic purposes. Depending on their location and size, moles and skin tags can cause discomfort or lead to self-consciousness. Removing these skin lesions can dramatically improve your comfort and boost your confidence, allowing you to feel comfortable in your own skin. At Newman Dermatology, we offer several safe and effective mole removal options that can help you achieve smoother, clearer skin. Remember, regular skin check-ups are invaluable for your overall skin health, enabling early detection of any potential issues and keeping your skin at its healthiest. Our Mole Removal Procedures At Newman Dermatology, we provide an array of mole removal procedures to best suit your individual needs. Our skilled team of experts is proficient in various techniques, including surgical excision, laser removal, and cryotherapy. Surgical excision involves cutting away the mole and a small area of the surrounding skin, often under local anesthesia, and is typically used for potentially cancerous moles. This technique is highly effective and allows us to thoroughly examine the removed tissue for any signs of cancer. Laser removal, on the other hand, is used primarily for smaller, superficial moles. This non-invasive procedure employs concentrated light to break down the mole without the need for stitches. Cryotherapy is another non-invasive method where we use extremely cold liquid nitrogen to freeze and remove the mole. Each procedure has its own benefits, and potential risks, which will be fully explained during your consultation. We understand that any medical procedure can be daunting, and our dedicated team is here to ensure your comfort and safety. Our professionals are highly trained, with extensive experience in dermatological procedures. They stay updated with the latest advancements in skin care to provide you with the best possible care. At Newman Dermatology, your health and satisfaction are our top priorities. We're committed to giving you the highest standard of care in a warm, welcoming environment. Trust our experts to guide you through the mole removal process, delivering results you'll be pleased with. Mole Removal Cost The cost of mole removal varies depending on the size, type, and location of the mole. Generally, mole removals range between $250 and $500 . The cost also depends on whether the mole is being surgically removed or treated with laser therapy. Depending on the type of mole, we may recommend one treatment over the other. We'll help you choose the best option for you and discuss any potential risks and costs.  Book Online Set Up an Appointment Today Aftercare and Recovery from Mole Removal Your journey to healthier skin doesn't end when the mole removal procedure is over. Proper aftercare is essential for optimal healing and minimizing potential scarring. The recovery process varies depending on the type of procedure you've undergone, but typically, the treated area heals within 1 to 2 weeks. We'll provide you with detailed care instructions, including how to clean the wound, apply prescribed ointments, and when to change dressings. It's also important to protect the healing area from sun exposure, as it can darken the scar and slow the healing process. While complications are rare, they can occur. Please contact Newman Dermatology promptly if you experience persistent redness, swelling, bleeding, or unusual discomfort, as these may be signs of infection. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a swift, comfortable recovery, and we're here to support you every step of the way. This treatment is meant to target stubborn areas that diet and exercise just don’t seem to be able to get. Non-invasive, non-surgical, and no down time! The results are not immediate. It will take a few weeks for your body to naturally process the fat and eliminate the dead cells. However, the results are long term. This is because when fat cells are treated, they are gone for good. Thermi uses radiofrequency technology to heat the skin and stimulate collagen production naturally. We gently make circular motions with a hand piece on your skin, which heats the tissue below your skin. It can be used on virtually any part of the body . It is completely painless and has no recovery time. Zimmer uses high energy ultrasound on the skin in order to stimulate blood flow and lymphatic drainage. This is great for cellulite reduction. It is completely painless and has no recovery time.   CoolSculpting results are optimized while patient simultaneously adopt a well-balanced diet and regular exercise. We also offer nutritional counseling and in some cases pharmacotherapy to achieve  optimal   results. Some patients may qualify for certain medications like Ozempic (Injectable Semaglutide), Wegovy (Oral Semaglutide), or Mounjaro (Tirzepatide). Contact our office for a consultation to decide if one of these medications or lasers are right for you.  CoolSculpting Freeze fat with CoolSculpting Thermi Smooth Melt fat away and tighten skin with Thermi Smooth Zimmer Get rid of cellulite using shock ultrasound. Nutritional Services Get the most out of body contouring by pairing a laser with a diet plan. How much exercise should we be getting?   The American Heart Association (AHA) recommendations a minimum of 150 minutes per week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes per week of vigorous aerobic activity, or a combination of both, preferably spread throughout the week. Strength training (or resistance activities) are recommended twice a week.   Exercise can help improve circulation and nourish the skin to look younger. But the best benefit is the decreased stress.   This last year has been difficult for many of us, and finding a healthy outlet can be difficult. For me, working out has helped keep me in shape and given me a greater appreciation for the beautiful world we are blessed to live in. Don’t forget your hat and SPF! It often occurs in patches and can affect people of all ages but is most common in children.   What causes eczema?  Answer: The exact cause of eczema is not fully understood, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. It’s often linked to a compromised skin barrier, immune system overactivity, and a family history of allergies or asthma.    Is eczema contagious?  Answer: No, eczema is not contagious. It cannot be spread from one person to another through contact.    What are common symptoms of eczema?  Answer: Symptoms include red or brownish gray patches, intense itching, dry or scaly skin, swollen skin, and sometimes oozing or crusting. Medications and topical treatments may also help.   What are the best treatments for eczema?  Answer: Treatments vary depending on the severity but can include moisturizers, prescription corticosteroids, topical calcineurin inhibitors, oral medications, and light therapy, and LASER therapy. Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra are multiple, black or dark brown small dots on the face and neck. They are famously present in actor Morgan Freeman. The size and amount of dots increase with age. They have a strong genetic link and affect up to 35% of Black people. They are not cancerous but can be considered cosmetically undesirable by some.    How do you treat Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra? Dermatosis Papulosa Nigra is treated at our office with electrocautery or “zapping” followed by curettage. We can apply a topical or local anesthetic so that the removals are completely painless. Depending on how many dots you have, you may need several sessions to remove all the dots and achieve clear skin.    Keloids  What are keloids? Keloids are essentially very hard and raised scars caused by a skin injury. They are common at the sites of surgery or ear piercings. They can also occur if acne is severe and left untreated. They are much more common in people of color.    How do you treat keloid scars? Keloids will not improve without treatment. We treat keloids with steroid injections, surgical removal, and LASER treatment to flatten the scar and improve the redness.   Pesudofolliculitis Barbae  What is Pseduofolliculitis barbae? Pseduofolliculitis barbae is an itchy and tender inflammation of the hair follicles in the skin area. It is common in black people who shave their beards or pubic hairs. The hair is so thick and curly that when it is shaved, it folds inwards and causes a foreign body inflammatory reaction. It is prone to infection so it should be treated immediately.    How do you treat Pseduofolliculitis barbae? We recommend people who are prone to pseduofolliculitis barbae to avoid razor blades when shaving and instead use electric shavers. We can use topical steroids and our unique LASERS to treat the inflammation and redness. If it goes untreated and becomes severe enough, it can become infected. Please contact our office to schedule a consultation for pseduofolliculitis barbae treatment.  Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. Traditional treatments often don’t work as well on skin of color, and some can even cause further damage. That’s why seeing a dermatologist who specializes in treating skin of color is so important. Let’s take a look at how they can help.    Tailored Treatments   A dermatologist for skin of color will be familiar with the ways that traditional treatments affect darker complexions, and they will be able to tailor the treatment to your specific needs. They will also be able to recommend better alternatives if the traditional treatments are likely to cause further damage or irritation. In addition, they may also be able to provide additional services such as permanent makeup tattoos or other cosmetic procedures that can help minimize the appearance of acne scarring or discoloration.    Expertise in Skin Conditions   Dermatologists for skin of color not only have knowledge about traditional treatments but also have expertise in identifying certain conditions that may require more specialized care than what is usually provided by general practitioners. For example, melasma which is caused by sun exposure and hormone changes is much more common in people with darker complexions than those with lighter complexions, and it requires special attention from an experienced dermatologist to get results. Similarly, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is more common in those with dark skin tones and can cause discoloration if not treated properly.                   Making You Feel Comfortable    Finally, seeing a dermatologist for skin of color can make you feel more comfortable during visits because many practitioners understand the unique needs associated with darker complexions better than those without training in this area do. This means that your practitioner will be more understanding of any concerns you may have regarding your treatment plan, as well as being able to answer any questions you may have about how the treatment might affect your complexion over time. In addition, since they specialize in treating darker skin tones, they should also be able to give you advice on how best to care for your complexion after treatment has finished so that you can maintain its health and vitality long into the future.    At Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills, we are dedicated to providing the best care for patients with skin of color and specialize in treating a wide range of conditions. If you would like to find out more about how we can help with rosacea and acne treatment  contact us today to book an appointment. Non-melanoma skin cancer is the most common type of skin cancer, which affects more than 3 million Americans every year. Finding these cancers early can lead to better outcomes. We recommend annual skin cancer screening in all patients. If you have risk factors or a history of skin cancer, you may need more frequent skin cancer screenings. We offer same-day biopsies and treatments for basal cell and squamous cell cancers. We also offer multiple modalities to treat actinic keratosis or pre-cancer. Melanoma What is Melanoma? Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops when the "colored" skin cells grow uncontrollably. They are characterized by the ABCDEs: Asymmetry, irregular Boarders, abnormal Color, large Diameter, and Evolution over time. In other words, a general rule of thumb is to raise concern for any rapidly growing and large moles that look different than the other moles on your skin.   How do you treat Melanoma?  We will biopsy the entire lesion with wide margins and send it to pathology to confirm the diagnosis and confirm we removed the entire lesion. Because melanoma is invasive (meaning, it can quickly spread to other parts of the body), we may have to send you to a sub-specialist to have Mohs surgery. These details will be discussed with you very compassionately and clearly and we will come up with a plan movement forward.  Book Now Call (310) 888-8877   9150 Wilshire Blvd #100 Beverly Hills, CA 90212 Text (424) 281-4855   [email protected] Board-Certified Dermatologist Privacy Policy | Terms & Conditions | HIPAA Notice | Accessibility Statement © Newman Dermatology Beverly Hills. Is rosacea the same as acne? Rosacea and acne have very similar appearances and they are often confused for one another by non-specialists. They both involve redness and breakouts on the face. Acne usually will involve redness and larger pimples and can cause scarring if left untreated. Rosacea has more diffuse redness around the cheeks and if you look closely you will see small pimples and small red blood vessels on the face called telangiectasias.  Book Online Schedule an Appointment Today Is rosacea common?  Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory acne-like disorder that affects approximately 10% of fair-skinned people. It usually begins from ages 30 to 50 and is more common.  in Caucasian females although it is present in darker skinned individuals and is often under-diagnosed in them. What causes rosacea?  The exact cause of rosacea is unknown but people with rosacea will experience episodes of “flushing” of the skin in response to exposure to the sun or heat, hot liquids, spicy foods, alcohol, or feeling embarrassed. It can last days to months. In severe cases, it can cause distortions of the face, most commonly the nose, ears and chin. If it gets this severe, it can be very difficult to treat or reverse. How do you treat rosacea?   Our office has targeted treatments for rosacea which include topical medications such as topical antibiotics. We also have laser treatments and light therapy which target the redness and rejuvenate the skin's appearance.
