NEXT Village SF is a neighborhood nonprofit providing services and support that empower members to live independently in their own homes as they age. Our volunteers and staff work together to enrich, enhance, and nourish the lives of seniors in our community. As a vibrant, growing network for aging adults in northeast San Francisco, NEXT Village SF is a connection you can count on. Everyday, we work to build caring communities that dignify aging and honor our desire to age in the place we call home.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
NEXT Village SFs believe that when people feel respected and included, they can be more engaged, innovative and successful. We are committed to ensuring that our team, our members and our volunteers feel recognized, supported and heard. We encourage people of every race/ethnicity, belief, gender, sexual identity, disability, age, and culture to join in whatever capacity they desire and in return, to be respected and valued for their unique contributions to this community.
We invite you to:

NEXT Village SF provides unique support for our members (all incomes, multi-cultural) Need Support? A NEXT VILLAGE SF MEMBERSHIP CAN ENRICH YOUR LIFE! TRANSPORATION One of our most frequent requests. Often, it’s not very far, but it’s still very important. When a volunteer can’t be identified, we can provide a LYFT as part of a grant fund. SHOPPING Shopping for the member, or going with them, often on short notice, to their preferred stores at a time that works for them. WALKING PARTNERS For people who aren’t steady on their feet, or who want to walk with others. TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT For phones, iPads, computers Reading mail and books to low-vision members, in-home or at the library. REFERRAL INFO For questions about City services, Meals on Wheels, The V.A., Assisted Living, downsizing, HICAP, hearing and vision services, medical devices, Open House etc. IN-HOME SAFETY ASSESSMENT Provided to all members at no cost, followed by volunteers who help implement the recommended changes. (Tape down rugs, move cords out of the walking path, etc.) ONLINE SHOPPING Arrange online shopping for members when getting out to stores has become a challenge. We can then send volunteers to help break down the boxes from delivered items and take them to the recycling bin. . Send volunteers to break down boxes from items that have been delivered from online shopping, and take those boxes down to the recycling bin. DE-CLUTTERING Organize volunteers to go to members’ homes, help pack up unwanted items, and drop them off at The Goodwill. BUILD COMMUNITY We can organize a team of concerned neighbors to help neighbors who have no support system but perhaps have multiple needs. For example, help with groceries, transportation, getting a hearing aid, bill paying, de-cluttering, companionship, help replacing household furnishings, and more. POST-HOSPITAL HELP Set up systems for people who have been discharged from the hospital (likely too early) so that they can get their apartment tidied up, can shop online for groceries and meal delivery services, and arrange for transportation to post-hospital appointments – as well as arranging for volunteers to provide well-being checks and other tasks as needed. COMPANIONSHIP Isolation is as dangerous as the effects of smoking! We have friendly volunteers just waiting to connect with you. Need company at home? We can do that. Someone to take you to coffee or to your favorite watering hole? Just ask. Villages aren’t just about things you “need to do”, we are also about things you “want to do”. Many times, seniors are reluctant to ask for something that isn’t absolutely necessary. To that we say, pshaw! ONE HARD THING NEXT partners with SF Evening Rotary, a group of young, helpful professionals, for this twice-yearly event. We’ll change your smoke detector batteries, flashlight batteries, light bulbs, etc. We also flip mattresses, hang photos, wash windows, and move heavy furniture – tasks that need a couple of strong people to accomplish. Let us stand on the ladder for you. About us NEXT Village SF is a neighborhood nonprofit providing services and support that empower members to live independently in their own homes as they age. Find out how you can become a volunteer NEXT Village SF NEIGHBORS NEXT Village SF Neighbor volunteers do all sorts of things: from providing neighborly support (driving others, grocery shopping, friendly visiting) to being a technology mentor or a bill-paying coach. Volunteers may support members in getting out to events or exercise or lead a class. NEXT Village SF Neighbors may also provide support by helping with events, taking photos, or working on the newsletter. And they might take an active role in NEXT Village leadership, working on developing and presenting our educational, health and wellness programs, facilitating social and interest group activities, developing our membership, our NEXT Neighbor program, our financial lifelines, and our service referral lists. There’s virtually no limit to how you can become involved as a NEXT Neighbor. Ours is a vibrant group of amazing folks who genuinely care about members. I’d like to extend a personal invitation to you, whether you choose to join NEXT Village SF or not, to become involved in NEXT Neighbors. Your involvement will enrich our organization and the lives of its members while, at the same time, enrich your own life. Camille Kelem [email protected] (415) 301-3742 MEET VOLUNTEERS, ROBERT & MIA MORRILL! Marie Mansi says, “Give Bob 10 Stars! “My procedure was supposed to be at 1, but it didn’t start until 3, and that shifted my pick-up time to 5pm”. “Bob went above and beyond.” “I tried to call him but I didn’t have cell service, so a nurse called him to inform him that things were running late, and even though he had evening plans, he made it work.” “He’s a Super-Duper volunteer!” Our sentiments exactly, Marie. We asked Bob and Mia how they felt about NEXT Village, and here’s what they said: “ While we haven’t had the need to call on NEXT services, that time will come soon, we are sure. In the meantime, we have really enjoyed helping NEXT and its members in various things such as transportation, life transitions, organizing financial affairs etc. NEXT has given us a great way to connect with our community, and we love the surge of good feelings we get after helping someone out. We also love NEXT’s social activities – they are well designed for those of our age, and really help us stay connected and out of the homebound rut that it is all too easy to fall into. We’re grateful for all of our volunteers, and to Bob and Mia for taking on some very challenging tasks! Thank you for always having a positive attitude, being so helpful, and putting a smile on our members’ faces. HOW TO BECOME A NEXT Village SF VOLUNTEER We welcome the volunteer involvement of our members, but you don’t have to be a member to get involved.
