Log In Scores/Tablature Arrangements The following arrangements are written in guitar tablature and staff notation. I find this the ideal system to represent the rhythm and notes (for any instrument) and also where to place those notes on the guitar. Each arrangement combines music from West African artists and my own original compositions. I teach private lessons over zoom if you want to dive deeper into this music. Cherie/Bakoye - Ali Farka Toure - Steel String Guitar Coming Soon Beginner Arrangements Coming Soon SOME THOUGHTS ON LEARNING AN ARRANGEMENT Do not try to learn any of these scores by playing through from start to finish. Or by playing from the start and going as far as you can and then repeating the process. Just don’t do it. It's not a successful strategy for digesting and internalizing the material. Instead, take each phrase or even measure one by one and memorize them, One at a time. That way, you will have the focus to get to know a phrase, to understand what it’s expressing. And in having it make sense to you, you’ll be more able to remember it and express it. Even if you just learn the main rhythm/groove part and the first melody (and really learn it) you will have something wonderful and satisfying to play and to share. And if you are still motivated, you can spend time getting to really know another phrase and integrate that into your piece. Like building a cathedral from solid blocks instead of a house of sticks (which is what you get if you try and read through again and again without taking the time with each phrase individually), you can create something beautiful and lasting in your repertoire. If you run into a phrase that is giving you extra trouble, it’s probably at your technical edge. There’s a lot of phrases in most of these scores, so you could skip it. But if you can isolate these technical crux moments in a score and devote the amount of time in your practice session to each one, you can slowly and steadily expand your technical abilities. If you are having a lot of trouble, or you just want to learn a score faster, or you want a skillful set of ears and eyes to bring out even more out in your playing, you can reach out to me for a lesson. I have worked with many beginners and experienced players alike and I am confident I can help you along your way. bottom of page --> Contact Nicco Tyson top of page NICCO TYSON Music Lessons Guitar Ukulele Harmonica Tablature/Scores Performances Testimonials FAQs Music Biography Contact Shop More Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Log In Our Students Love Us TESTIMONIALS Here's what our students are saying ab out our music lessons. We are 5 star on Yelp "I am a beginner and Nicco was very patient with getting me started. We worked through the basics and into some tunes very quickly. Nicco, despite his off-the-charts harmonica talents is very modest and moved at my plotting speed. He is intelligent, engaging, warm and open. As for his skill, see his video on YouTube. He is well versed in a wide range of musical instruments . Five stars." Dakarai F. // Berkeley, CA "Nicco is a wonderful human and a wonderful musician. His knowledge of different types/styles of music and instruments is impressive. He's a great teacher when it comes to lessons and a professional when it comes to events. Some things that set Nicco apart from others are his patience and his genuine desire to meet each person's needs on their level. He's willing to take the time to figure out exactly what needs to be done. You'll be happy if you work with him, whether it be for an event or for lessons." Sarah C. // Yelp Elite '2021 //San Francisco, CA "My colleagues and I decided to try something new during the pandemic and signed up for online group-harmonica lessons with Nicco. It was a wonderful experience! Nicco is an amazing teacher; thoughtful, flexible, patient, creative (he really used zoom to its best, for example by recording rhythms during the lesson so that we could go back and practice them later). We had so much fun during our lessons! And we learned a ton; not just playing some blues rhythms - also about the history of the instrument and the history of blues, for example. Overall, I would recommend Nicco as a teacher to anyone!" Antonia L. // San Francisco, CA Please Review Us Contact Me San Francisco, CA email:

Log In Nicco Tyson's Harmonica, Guitar and Ukulele Lessons Call Us Musical Instruments Harmonica The harmonica is one of the most fun and recognizable instruments, used worldwide in nearly every musical genre, most notably in blues, American folk music, jazz, country and rock ‘n’ roll. There are many types of harmonica, including diatonic, chromatic and tremolo versions. Ukulele The ukulele is an instrument that is rich with history and tradition. First appearing in Hawaii in the 1800s, the ‘uke' has found a unique home for itself in both traditional and popular music. Artists as diverse as Eddie Vedder, Amanda Palmer, Don Ho, and Jason Mraz have all made use of the ukulele over the years to add a special something to their classic songs. Guitar Some things that set Nicco apart from others are his patience and his genuine desire to meet each person's needs on their level.” Sarah C. - San Francisco, CA WHAT PEOPLE SAY Margaret H (San Francisco) If you're looking to learn guitar, look no further than Nicco! He's been my guitar teacher for a few years now, and he continues to encourage and inspire me. Three key qualities make him an amazingly talented teacher: he's passionate, patient and positive. Log In about ME Since I began my journey of learning music, I have enjoyed a fuller life experience from playing the harmonica and guitar. I have played with bands, with friends, with strangers and alone. From high mountain peaks in the Trinity Alps to the streets of San Francisco I have had a little bit of magic to share. Throughout my travels in Europe, South America and Africa the harmonica has allowed me to use music as a bridge to deeply connect with people across cultural and linguistic divides. For the past 10 years, I have had the privilege of teaching children private music lessons at Children’s Day School in San Francisco . Children have a special joy and excitement they bring to playing music and also a unique set of challenges for a music teacher at times. I always strive to be creative and engaging in the songs, exercises and activities I use with children, as their attention spans and self motivation often need fresh inputs to keep them learning and having fun. "I've been taking guitar lessons from Nicco for a couple months with a good friend of mine. I am so pleased and impressed that he has taught us so much in an incredibly short period of time. He kind, warm-hearted, patient, super positive and so encouraging. Nicco makes things fun and easy to understand and is just a pleasure to be around. He is a real gem and I wholeheartedly recommend taking lessons from him. He is indeed humble but when you hear him play it is clear he is able to teach at any level. Log In Why Take Music Lessons? A skilled teacher can make the challenging feat of learning an instrument into a fun and easeful journey. A master music teacher is a guide who can offer you: Foundational good habits that will set up for success on your instrument. A large part of learning music is muscle memory. If you train yourself in bad habits, then they will be in your way the rest of your life and will be harder to unlearn than if you were starting from scratch. If you learn good habits that facilitate great playing from the beginning, it will only get easier for you to play more and more complex music. Feedback I will be listening to your playing each lesson and will let you know what you are doing well and where you can improve. Goal oriented structure Working with you to determine where you want to go with your playing, I can assess where you are, what is within your reach, and what is helpful to be aiming for. Social aspect, group lessons and casual low pressure zoom recitals. When taking lessons from me, you will be connected to the larger community of students I teach. If you are interested and there are other students that would be a good fit, I create group classes for students at similar learning levels. I also host gatherings on zoom for my students to connect and share what they have been working on. Learning with others makes the process even more fun and motivating. Why Learn to play the Guitar? Guitar is an incredible instrument because it is loved all over the world and across so many walks of life. The soothing tone of the acoustic guitar whispers into the human heart almost universally. Why Learn to play the Harmonica? The harmonica is the ultimate pocket portable musical companion. I can help you learn to make it sing. With a harmonica in your pocket, and the knowhow of the instrument, you are always ready to jam with friends or anyone you meet, or to play and express yourself when you are alone. Whether traveling the world, walking in the city, sitting around a campfire or hiking up a high mountain peak, that harmonica has always given me a little bit of magic to share when the moment is right. Why Learn to play the Ukulele? The ukulele is such a special instrument and one of the most amazing and accessible instruments for beginning musicians. The simplicity of having just four strings allows people to learn very quickly how to play songs and express themselves. The ukulele’s soft strings are also easier on your fingers than guitar strings. This is the perfect instrument for children who may not yet have the focus for a more tedious instrument, or for someone of any age who wants to start playing and singing as soon as possible. bottom of page --> Harmonica Lessons | Play Great Blues Harp in 3 months top of page NICCO TYSON Music Lessons Guitar Ukulele Harmonica Tablature/Scores Performances Testimonials FAQs Music Biography Contact Shop More Use tab to navigate through the menu items.
