Dental fillings are most commonly used to treat cavities (decay), but they’re also used to repair cracked or broken teeth, or teeth that have been worn down over time. There are different types of dental filling materials that can be used. Our practice is amalgam-free, we use all composite based filling materials.  Most dental filling procedures feature the following: Topical anesthetic (gel) to numb the general area of treatment prior to placement of local anesthesia Decay removal from the affected teeth Tooth restoration using a composite resin filling material Bite check to make sure your teeth align comfortably and polish The team at our practice will ensure you are comfortable before, during, and after your procedure, and will happily answer any questions you may have at any point.  TIPS TO OVERCOME DENTAL ANXIETY Talk with your dentist and/or dental hygienist about your dental anxiety so they can explain what the procedure really entails and you know what to expect. Wear headphones during your appointment to help block out sounds.  Everyone’s pain threshold is different. Always ask for more numbing agents if experiencing pain or discomfort during the procedure. Ask about anti-anxiety medication . We offer patients anti-anxiety medication to help reduce dental anxiety during the appointment.  Bring someone you trust to your appointment to help provide comfort and reduce dental anxiety. But knowing what makes you a good candidate can help you determine if it's the right investment for you. Porcelain Veneers Chairside Composite Bonding Chairside Composite Bonding Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. It is often the material of choice for those looking to make slight position alterations, or to change tooth shape, size, and/or color. "No-Prep" Veneers Chairside Composite Bonding "No-Prep" Veneers Just as with porcelain veneers, "no-prep" or minimal preparation veneers typically don't require us to remove as much tooth material. Often, the placement of no-prep veneers can be done more quickly and with less discomfort than traditional veneers. Copyright © 2018 NextGen Dentistry - All Rights Reserved. Your teeth are meant to last a lifetime. Years ago, diseased or injured teeth were usually pulled. But today, a tooth can often be saved through root canal (endodontic) treatment. Root canals are common procedures and can help save your tooth from extraction.   WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE? Root canals are common procedures and can help save your tooth from extraction.  The decay is removed and an opening is made through the crown of the tooth into the pulp chamber. The pulp is removed and the root canals are cleaned and shaped. The root canals and pulp chamber are filled. A metal or plastic rod or post may be placed in the root canal to help retain the core (filling) material, which supports the restoration (crown). The tooth is then restored with a crown or filling. However, sometimes a tooth extraction is unavoidable. Here at NextGen, we will make sure you’re comfortable before, during, and after your extraction procedure.  ACCORDING TO THE AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION: Copyright © 2018 NextGen Dentistry - All Rights Reserved. After Crown Placement  What is a Crown? How is the Crown Placed? What is a Crown? A crown is a cover or “cap” your dentist can put on a tooth. Go to the dentist right away. If the tooth was broken or chipped, bring the tooth fragment wrapped in wet gauze or a wet towel. LOOSENED OR KNOCKED OUT TOOTH If your tooth becomes loose due to trauma, call your dentist. For a knocked out tooth, gently insert the lost tooth back in its socket if possible, holding the tooth by the crown using a clean washcloth. (If the tooth is dirty, first rinse the root but do not scrub it or remove any attached tissues.) If reinsertion isn’t possible, hold the tooth under the tongue and go to the dentist immediately. BROKEN JAW Apply ice or a cold compress to the face. Go to your dentist or an emergency center immediately. BITTEN TONGUE OR LIP Clean the area with a wet cloth and place a cold compress on the area to reduce swelling. If the bleeding persists or if it is excessive, go to your dentist or an emergency center.  Copyright © 2018 NextGen Dentistry - All Rights Reserved. She has called the San Francisco Bay Area home for the past 15 years with a brief hiatus in the greater NY area during dental school. She obtained her DDS at New York University, College of Dentistry. It was there where she honed in on her passion to teach others through her experience as a peer mentor, anatomy tutor and a general dentistry teaching assistant. She exemplifies that same level of passion and acute knowledge of dentistry through effective patient counseling with respect to dental health, prevention and treatment. Her friendly and peaceful demeanor makes her very approachable as she continually strives to treat all patients with the same care and attentiveness as her own family. Dr. Solomon is a board member of the Alameda County Dental Association, and a member of the California Dental Society and Punjabi Dental Society. Through these organizations, Dr. Solomon spends hours on continuing education in order to stay on top of the latest dental technology and techniques. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Solomon enjoys spending time with her husband and two kids as well as traveling and outdoor activities. We recommend a visit with your hygienist two times a year. This can often help you keep your teeth and gums healthy, provide you with advisory on any sensitivity or questions you may have, and prevent issues long before they become serious. Oral Hygiene at Home Good oral hygiene at home also is very important to help keep periodontal disease from becoming more serious or from coming back. Daily home cleaning helps keep plaque under control and reduces tartar buildup. Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste. Floss your teeth (or use another between-the-teeth cleaner) once a day.   You don’t have to lose teeth to periodontal disease. Brush, clean between your teeth, eat a healthy diet and visit your dentist regularly for a lifetime of healthy smiles. Copyright © 2018 NextGen Dentistry - All Rights Reserved.
