He bought CrossFit Los Angeles in 2014 with a vision to build a unified coaching team and the business to support it. The business rebranded in 2017 as Oak Park, a nod to the Kenny’s roots in Santa Rosa, CA as well as a symbolic transition to something evergreen. His dream has always been to create an environment where he can be a student and learn entirely new things from the people within it. As the Oak Park coaches and community continue to evolve, that dream becomes more of a reality. Kenny has an extraordinarily diverse background. He grew up in a family fitness business with a mother in the Swimming Hall of Fame and a father who was an officiant at the Olympics. At 15, he earned his Black Belt and began his coaching career as a martial arts instructor. Kenny attended UC Davis where he played soccer, ran track, and competed in triathlons. He then went on to teach physical education and drama in his hometown while training for the Olympic Trials. A career ending running injury pushed him to shift focus to standup comedy and private training. Kenny spent 14 years splitting time between training clients and touring the world. He performed standup and gave motivational talks while simultaneously transforming people as a coach. Kenny retired from performing in 2013 to do what he loves. He now dedicates all of his professional time to coaching and the business endeavors that support it. Contact Coach Kenny Charlotte Kane | Owner, Coach Char believes that with determination, purpose and connection, clients can reach any goal in life. Even at times when life is challenging. Char will challenge her clients’ mindset and develop their confidence and competence along the way. She is the ultimate performance coach, regardless of whether you are a competing athlete or a mother dealing with postpartum issues.  She will take her clients to places they never thought they could conquer.  Char has an extraordinary athletic background. Born and raised in Sweden with some Finnish in her blood, SISU is a good way of describing her. As a 15 year old, she was handpicked by a National Track and Field Coach. Her background as a gymnast became a natural transition into the world of running. She started her life-long athletic career as a pole vaulter but found her true passion and talent running the 400m hurdles. Char has won multiple National and International titles and has competed all around the world earning her spot in the Swedish National Track and Field team. As a 23 year old she was ranked top 15 in the world. In 2014 Char got pregnant with her first son and decided to put her spikes (track shoes) aside. She married Kenny Kane in 2015 and they together decided to create an environment where coaches and athletes could thrive and develop their physical and mental capacity. During this time, Char also earned her Swedish Law Degree from Lund University as well as her Masters Degree from the University of Southern California. Aside from her law degrees, Char has a major in biology and exercise physiology, she is an XPT certified coach, CF-L1 trainer, MWOD Coach and a Certified Track and Field coach. She specializes in performance training and pre- and postpartum training for women. She thrives working with humans in helping them reach their greatest potential. Contact Coach Char James “Jamie” Silber | Gym Manager, Coach With over 30 years of experience, Jamie Silber is a highly accomplished coach and athlete. He has spent the majority of his career preparing people of all ages and abilities for anything that may come their way physically, mentally, or emotionally. As an athlete, Jamie is a 12-time Team USA triathlete and recently placed 4th in his age group at the ITU World Triathlon Championships. He has completed seven Ironman triathlons, including the Ironman Hawaii World Championships. Jamie is the primary Oak Park Coach for triathlon training and he actively bridges the gap between CrossFit methods and endurance culture. With a foundation in athletics and education, Nick developed a deep respect for the power of a growth mindset. Nick’s journey began on the high school basketball court, where he learned humility, sacrifice, and the power of teamwork—a belief captured in his motto: “Teamwork makes the dream work.” After college, he launched his coaching career while training in CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. Through years of coaching and personal growth, Nick discovered that discipline and consistency are the keys to long-term success, in fitness and in life. We believe this is best done together with other humans and under the guidance of dedicated, professional coaches.  Group Classes General Human Preparedness Our General Human Preparedness class ("GHP") is the centerpiece of group training at Oak Park. Our unique model of contextual coaching combined with the CrossFit training methodology form the foundation of programming for our GHP classes. Each class includes a thorough warm-up, opportunities to develop skills or strength, the main workout, and a cool down — all of which is appropriately tailored to each student’s individual needs, goals, and abilities by a passionate, caring, and highly-skilled Oak Park coach. Aerobic Capacity A class that improves your engine no matter what level athlete you are. All athletes will learn and hone their ability to efficiently transport oxygen to working muscles while simultaneously keeping the mind quiet and focused on the task at hand: Breathing. If you are interested in developing your aerobic capacity, V02 max, anaerobic threshold, movement efficiency, and recoverability, this class is a must for you. Most importantly, the explicit tools of breath transferable to life outside the gym are taught intentionally in this class. Barbells & Bodybuilding These classes focus on increasing your raw strength in the squat, deadlift, press, and bench press. Each session includes strength work, core work, and accessory work pertaining to the main lifts. Olympic Weightlifting Olympic weightlifting classes are focused on developing your technique and strength in the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk. These lifts are the most complex and demanding weightlifting movements and these classes are the best way for you to develop confidence and competency with these lifts. From beginners to advanced athletes, everyone can benefit from focused work on these explosive, athletic lifts. Gymnastics In Gymnastics class we are developing spatial awareness, balance and connecting strict & dynamic movements. There is considerable time spent meeting each athlete where they are at and building confidence in structure, and concluding with exploring athletic play. Power Bell This class is an introduction to the many benefits of training with kettlebells. It is designed to aid in bulletproofing your shoulders, improving midline stability and helping you generate more power and strength. You will learn the fundamental movements of kettlebell training as a complement to the mixed modality training of our GHP classes. Strength & Power The focus of the Strength & Power class is to build overall strength and develop explosive, athletic power. From Olympic weightlifting and barbell cycling to gymnastics and plyometrics, you will increase your strength and power and reach higher levels of fitness than ever before. If you are looking to get stronger and more powerful, this is the class for you. Mobility & Recovery Classes Mobility. Stretching. Yoga. Restorative breathwork. Sauna and ice bath exposure. Journaling. Meditation. Nutrition and sleep education. All of these tools make up our Recovery Class. Your training is only as effective as your ability to recover from it and our coaching team offers Recovery Classes as a structured way to guide you in developing those habits we all "know" we should do but which often don't happen because we "don't have time" or aren't really sure how to get started. In these classes you will learn how to build restorative, healing habits to nourish and refresh your body and your mind so that you can train more consistently and effectively. Virtual Breathwork Friday mornings we meet virtually to reset and recharge to tackle the back half of the week. Coach Matt leads the class through 15-20 minutes of energizing and focusing breath practice which is complemented with a morning journaling and reflection practice. These breathing sessions are archived and available to our members through our online training page . Breath Class Proper breathing is the foundation to fitness, health, and wellness and the Oak Park coaching team has integrated functional breathing into the programming for all of our classes. For those who are looking for a deeper experience of the power of the breath, our weekly Breath Class explores a broad range of mindful breathing techniques. The focus of the class varies from week to week, but the underlying goal of Breath Class is to help you develop your understanding and control of your breathing to improve your performance and recovery and as a tool for self-regulation of the body and the mind. Individual & Small Group Training Individualized Training Individuals and small groups who want a more individualized training program can connect with an Oak Park coach who will design and guide a highly-individualized program customized to address your specific health, fitness, and wellness goals. Specialty Programs   Fire & Ice The sessions in our Fire & Ice specialty program (led by XPT Master Coach Matt Nichols) combine the power of breathwork with the transformative experience of exposure to extreme heat (dry sauna) and extreme cold (ice baths) to forge mental resiliency and develop your capacity to control your breathing as a way to control your responses to extreme stress. Fire & Ice is not only an incredible experience for putting yourself to the test by choosing to be uncomfortable, but it is also an amazing tool for physical recovery from hard training and the stresses of life. The participants in Fire & Ice routinely forge deep connections with one another - doing hard things together is unparalleled for bringing people closer together - and this makes Fire & Ice an ideal team building experience as well. Learn More   Barbells & Bodybuilding This specialty program run by Coach Nick Yiakos focuses on increasing your raw strength in the squat, deadlift, press, and bench press. Each session includes nutrition coaching, core work, and accessory work pertaining to the main lifts.  What’s the heaviest weight you can lift? If you want to find out, this specialty program is for you.  Learn More   Youth Program Oak Park Youth Program offers private training and group classes that are both fun and diverse for kids 5-17 years. We teach kids how to properly run, jump, push, pull and squat— all while improving their coordination, speed and agility. Kids will develop conditioning through body weight exercises, lifting weights, running, rowing and jumping rope. We break down and slow down movements first to practice, then add intensity when appropriate. We play games and use teamwork exercises to facilitate connection and allow students work at their own level to build confidence and autonomy. Learn More   Triathlon Team Training Under the guidance of Coach Jamie Silber, the Triathlon Team Training Program provides Oak Park athletes the opportunity to train for endurance events outside the gym. This specialty program ranges from 10 weeks to 6 months in length and is designed to prepare for specific events (e.g. sprint distance, Ironman competition). In addition to on-site training, the Triathlon Training Program also engages in pool and open water swimming, bike rides, and running via team clinics and camps. Learn More   Schedule Ready to Play?
