Here at Pacifica, we strive to make every student’s story a rewarding one. As a private Christian high school in Santa Monica, our tight-knit community gives space for teens to become intellectually curious, strong in their faith, and ready to face the challenges ahead. Our Christian values are exemplified inside and outside the classroom. As a community, we strive to love God with hearts, souls, and minds. As a result, this instills genuine joy in learning and a profound awareness of one’s gifts and skills. Find Your Pack Discover who you are. We challenge teens intellectually by giving them opportunities to examine the academic material — and look at the bigger picture of their own meaning and purpose through a spiritual lens . Philosophy and theology classes, chapel, and retreats all contribute to how students explore life’s big questions and find their God-given talents. 14 Varsity Teams 16 PACARTS Offerings 35+ CLUBS Traditions & travel In our school community, students can be the best they can be — while still having fun. Our high schoolers enjoy traditions that make lasting memories with friends, such as the All-School Retreat, Homecoming & Spirit Week, and more. In addition, Pacifica students have opportunities to travel the country and the world. Aside from local travel and participation in national competitions, everyone looks forward to our Spring Break trips with themes (Adventure, Great Cities, and Curriculum Enrichment), where they visit countries such as France, Germany, Belize, South Africa, Japan, and more. Students in Action All-Around Excellence Jenna Kim is an active member of our school community, thriving in her roles as part of the Associated Student Government, Diversity Council, and Pacifica Podcast. In addition, she is also a wonderful TaeKwonDo training instructor outside of school. “At Pacifica, I have realized how much the people I choose to be around influence who I am and my life. Being around people who want the best for me, love me, and whom I support and encourage in the same way has allowed me to form a healthy community within the school.” - Jenna Kim Creative by Design Peyton Gendall came to Pacifica wanting to grow in art, athletics, leadership, and purpose — and she's done exactly that. A varsity volleyball player and student government member, she also curated an exhibition for the school's winter art gallery and founded Carry Kind Tote Bags, a line of handmade upcycled bags that raises funds for Cystic Fibrosis research. “When I was choosing a high school I was looking for a place where I could pursue growth in a variety of disciplines like art, athletics, leadership and faith. My two older siblings had flourished at Pacifica, so that helped make it a natural choice for me.” - Peyton Gendall Making a Mark Dedication, passion, and skill — that’s what Langston Brown brings to the table with his various roles in the Pacifica community. At present, he is involved in STEM Scholars, managing the Varsity Basketball team, Track & Field, and the Mentor/Mentee Program. Unmatched Personal Connection to Teachers Pacifica staff are apt in the art of teaching, experts in their fields, mature in their faith, and passionate about teaching teenagers. This is a recipe for a loving, thriving environment of learning. Learn what sets our teachers apart > 2. Leisure in Learning Paradigm The leisure in learning model provides time and space for students to think deeply, with an emphasis on higher-level observation, in-depth analysis, and clear articulation of thoughts. Pacifica students learn best in an academic atmosphere of scola (leisure) rather than negotium (business), driving imagination and intellectual ownership. 3. Four-Year College Preparatory Path Students are given the analytical, communication, problem-solving, and organizational tools to thrive in college. They develop grit, hone their relational skills, and grow in faith and virtue. We believe these qualities will serve our students well in every area of their lives no matter what path they take after high school. academic professionals Academic professionals take ownership of their academic development that is manifested in their speech, comportment, preparation, and execution of scholarly endeavors. They adapt to new circumstances, are self-motivated and produce quality work. Academic professionals are hospitable to the ideas of others seeking to engage, listen and understand rather than dismiss or attack. Excellent Scholars Excellent scholars display critical thinking across academic disciplines, have completed a rigorous four-year college preparatory curriculum, persevere when faced with rigor and unexpected challenges, and create time to reflect on and internalize what they have they have learned so that learning will have a transformative impact on their lives. Effective Communicators Effective communicators will speak and write with clarity, purpose, authenticity and civility. Their actions will align with their words, thus promoting authenticity and not merely style or polish. They are able to interconnect with others in a variety of ways while retaining their authentic voice and perspective. They will learn to confidently express their thoughts and opinions in their writing and speech. They will communicate with respect toward others and themselves. Students will also traffic in a multitude of technological platforms rife for creative expression with a consistent focus on what is an appropriate balance between the private and the public. The variety of communication will enhance their traditional academic pursuits, stimulate effective problem-solving, and foster originality. Joyful Learners Joyful learners find joy, not only in the results of their academic engagement, but in the process of learning as well. Scholarship is recognized as both an end in itself and a means to a deeper understanding of the individual, their purpose in the world and the world itself. Joyful learners possess self-knowledge. They are aware of strengths, areas of growth, gifts, abilities and the relationship of those gifts and areas of growth to God and the community. Because they are self-aware, they graduate with a sense of direction, meaning and purpose. Virtuous and Courageous Men & Women Virtuous and courageous men and women hold themselves to high moral standards, pursuing what is good, beautiful, and true. Your Giving Supports Pacifica Distinctives Student Formation Our mission to teach students to think and live well comes to life through dynamic programs such as the All-School Retreat , Pacifica Chapel , Seawolf Athletics , and mental health support . Excellent Academic Offerings Through signature programs such as PACARTS , the Minchin Center for Innovation + Entrepreneurship , STEM Scholars , and the Pacifica Center for Philosophy & Theology , students gain life-building skills that prepare them for the future. Financial Aid our gift helps keep Pacifica a school for students from every neighborhood, making it possible for 40% of our students to access a college-preparatory, private Christian education. Faculty Development Our teachers are the heart of Pacifica, dedicating over 2,500 combined hours each year to professional development . We are deeply committed to investing in them, so they are equipped and inspired to help students reach their highest academic goals.
