Born and raised in Florida, Dr. Tellez received a degree in Religious Studies at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL and completed his medical school training at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Throughout his residency, Dr. Tellez focused on increasing LGBT+ health awareness amongst his colleagues and received an award for “Excellence in Teaching”. He volunteered his time helping medical students at the local LGBT clinic, presented an LGBT+ health lecture at the annual Florida Academy of Family Physicians conference, and collaborated with the local Pride Center to provide educational lectures to the public. These experiences of professional development, continued education, and public interaction have positively shaped his career. You should be feeling overall healthy and ready for a comprehensive review of your health over the course of the year. Generally, if you are healthy without ANY medical issues or medication that need management, a once a year visit for the following lab work and physical exam is more than comprehensive. Physicals ALSO include a well woman exam/pap smear/breast exam that should be done on a separate appointment. A regular physical AND female well exam should NOT be combined (You get two! Use em!); your insurance will likely not pay for both on the same visit and there is equipment/rooms that need to be used for a proper well woman exam Obviously new issues do arise and we attempt to address them, but insurance companies will likely NOT cover additional testing/imaging other than what is stated below. For instance; you should not be expecting to get a physical and an order for an MRI for your right shoulder pain without paying through the nose for it. All of our recommended lab-work is NOT always covered by insurance and it is your responsibility to understand how your insurance works; every plan is not equal and it is impossible for your physician to know what will be covered and not; they know what you need. Appropriate follow-up is based on mammogram findings ·         If you are under the age of 40 and feel that you have changes in your breasts, we will individualize your cancer screening with you Prostate Cancer Screening ·         This is individualized for every patient; current guidelines do NOT recommend frequent PSA screening without family history of early prostate cancer. This will be an individualized conversation depending on your needs Colon Cancer screening ·         Starting at 45-75 if there is no family history of colon cancer or significant change in bowel habits (ie blood in stool, new constipation/diarrhea/change in stool diameter) ·         We prefer the gold standard screening which is an actual Colonoscopy which requires a referral to a gastroenterologist Lung Cancer Screening ·         IF you were a former smoker/current smoker, who has smoked a pack a day for more than 30 years, and are between the ages of 55-80; yearly low dose Cat scan of the lungs is recommended. Age Based Recommended Vaccines (NOT ALL ARE COVERED BY INSURANCE; PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE) ·         Yearly Flu Shot : Don’t be a dummy, get your flu shot ·         Shingrix : Two doses, starting at age 50-65; to prevent shingles ·         TdAP/Boostrix : Every 10 years for Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis protection ·         Pneumococcal : Ages 19-64 with certain health problems, any adult above 65; two shots, “Pneumonia shot” ·         Meningococcal : Entering College (age 17), Populations at higher risk (HIV, MSM, Military etc) every 5 years ·         Hepatitis: A/B : All PrEP/HIV patients should be immunized to Hep A and B, and checked regularly for immunity ·         HPV: any sexually active adult until the age of 45; you can still get after 45 by likelihood of coverage is very low Problem Based Visit This is the majority of visits to the doctors office; ie cough, back pain, painful urination, “I just wanna check some stuff and I’m having trouble sleeping but also want this vitamin checked and my hormones”. These are all problem based visits and are NOT part of a routine physical. After you make an appointment, the front desk always (or should) tell you the amount of time that you have with the doctor; ie a 15 minute appointment, 30 minute appointment, or even 45 minute appointment if you feel that you need one. You have to show up EARLY to your appointment; you will always have some form of paperwork to fill out, and especially with COVID you have multiple temperature point checks and extra questions to answer to ensure safety for yourself and others. He is board certified in cardiovascular diseases, nuclear cardiology, cardiac computed tomography, echocardiography, and internal medicine. Dr. Dandillaya has a clinical interest in preventative cardiology, peripheral vascular disease, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). In addition to being a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Dandillaya is a member of numerous societies, including the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Society of Vascular Ultrasound, the Los Angeles and American Society of Echocardiography and the American College of Physicians. In 2009, Dr. Dandillaya was elected to a two-year term as Vice President of the Cedars-Sinai Alumni Association. Dr. Dandillaya’s research has been published in major scientific journals and he has present abstracts at many national meetings, including annual sessions of the American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association. He is also actively involved in the teaching of fellows and residents at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. How it all began... 1980  - Two physicians, Joel Weisman ("J.W.")(left) and Eugene (Gene) Rogolsky(right), decided to branch off from the small private group they were partnered with in the San Fernando Valley to open a new practice, offering care for the Gay community. The new practice was called Weisman and Rogolsky. Shortly after the doors to their practice opened, the first case of Pneumocystis Pneumonia (PCP) was reported by several doctors, one of whom was Joel Weisman. 1981  - Suddenly, people began having increasingly severe, infectious illnesses and were dying. The illness, which was more like a syndrome of many illnesses, progressed rapidly. It had multiple names and it claimed larger and larger numbers of people. Many of these people were friends of the physicians and caring for them was that much more painful. 1982  - The disease was ultimately named Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and a virus, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), was identified as the culprit. Literally hundreds of patients at the group were tested and found to be HIV+. 1984  - The AIDS epidemic was now annihilating the gay community. Over the next few years, the group opened two AIDS Units, at Sherman Oaks Hospital in the Valley and at Midway Hospital in the city. 1986  - Doctors Anthony Scarsella, Scott Hitt, Paul Rothman, James Thomas and Dan Bowers joined the group over the next several years. Tony and Paul renamed the group Pacific Oaks Medical Group (POMG) to establish an identity and to avoid sounding like a law firm. The size of the group grew to over fifteen doctors. Dozens of people died from AIDS every day, both in and out of the hospital. Friends and neighbors died. For the POMG founding fathers, it was a time that cannot be described without opening wounds. 1989  - Early HIV treatments began to develop in the late 1980s, but were unsuccessful until the advent of medications called Protease Inhibitors and Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors in the 1990s. Now, people who were on the brink of death, began to improve and go home from the hospitals. 1996  -POMG consolidated in Beverly Hills. As even better medications emerged, the AIDS epidemic began to ease. The AIDS units reduced in size and ultimately closed. HIV became a manageable disease and the care of HIV+ persons became more routine. The physicians at POMG could now care for their patients without fear of imminent death. 2017  - Today, after 37 years of practice, Pacific Oaks continues to treat a diverse patient population and remains a nationally recognized leader in HIV medicine and care. The group also continues to be on the forefront of new HIV treatment modalities, engaged in numerous ongoing clinical trials, seeking a perfect HIV medication or perhaps even a vaccine. SAINI Dr. Atul Saini is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult reconstruction. Dr. Saini focuses on non-surgical treatment (physical therapy, injections, medications) as well as surgical treatments (primary and revision hip and knee replacements, meniscus tears).  He has training in: robotic-assisted and computer navigated joint replacement, partial knee replacement, anterior and posterior hip replacement using minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Saini believes in shared decision making with his patients through open communication and taking time to educate patients on their condition. He presents appropriate treatment options depending on the severity of the condition so that patients may make a well-informed decision about their health. He truly believes that each patient is an individual and aligns care with patient expectations with the ultimate goal of restoring quality of life and mobility.  Dr. Saini earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), completed medical school at Western University in Pomona, CA. Boyd is a board-certified family nurse practitioner with twenty years of experience in the medical field. He has multiple experiences in adult and pediatric emergency rooms and critical care services in both community and academic medical centers. David’s most recent experiences come from Providence Saint John’s Health Center, where he implemented revolutionary lifesaving treatments such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy for patients with severe lung disease secondary to COVID-19. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from West Coast University with both his bachelor’s and master’s in the science of nursing degrees, David is pursuing a doctorate in nursing practice at The University of San Francisco. David obtained a family nurse practitioner degree at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and interned at Pacific Oaks Medical Group with the late Dr. Anthony Scarcella. With these experiences, David brings a wealth of clinical knowledge and skills from various clinical backgrounds to his practice at POMG. As a volunteer HIV test counselor at the San Francisco Aids Foundation’s sexual health clinic Magnet, David sparked a keen interest in giving back to the LGBTQ community by providing HIV prevention strategies, care, and treatment.
