The generosity of PACF supporters has been instrumental in driving meaningful change, creating a more livable, vibrant, and strong community for all. Thank you for joining us on this journey to make a lasting, positive impact. We would also like to extend our thanks to PACF's outgoing Board President, Sigrid Pinsky , and PACF's outgoing Executive Director, Lisa Van Dusen . Families across our area feel the strain of rising costs. Immigrant neighbors carry the weight of uncertainty. Too many continue to struggle with housing affordability and stability. As inequities widen, nonprofits themselves face mounting pressures. Yet, in the midst of these challenges, something inspiring shines through: people stepping up, giving, and showing up for their community. At PACF, supporting our local community, especially those with the greatest need, remains paramount. For nearly 50 years, PACF has connected donors with local organizations driving positive change, ensuring generosity goes where it is needed most. As our community evolves, we remain committed to making an impact for the long run, acting on the generosity of our donors and multiplying the impact of every gift given. In 2025, that commitment came to life in tangible ways. PACF provided general operating and multi-year support to a portfolio of trusted partners rising to meet the moment. We built deeper relationships with nonprofits, offering not only funding but flexible support, listening ears, and long-term partnership. We brought together donors around the belief that our communities of Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park can become stronger when we give together. PACF also began evolving. We directed resources more intentionally, used data to spot trends and respond to emerging needs, and shared insights with partners. At a time when nonprofits were facing increased demand and funding uncertainty, PACF began to sharpen our role as a trusted voice for community needs, a partner who strengthens others, and a catalyst that magnifies the impact of individuals who give locally. With support from generous PACF donors, nonprofit leaders are doing more even in the face of growing challenges. Youth leaders are confronting mental health struggles, tenant coalitions are advocating for stability, and cultural programs are activating identity, joy, and connection. We know donors today want more than a transaction. They want to be part of a shared purpose. Giving to PACF helps to fulfill this shared purpose. Together, we are writing the next chapter of our community’s story. To our donors, we thank you for fueling our work and making our local impact possible. To our nonprofit partners, thank you for your tireless dedication and creativity, all of which continue to strengthen the fabric of our community. Together, we have accomplished more in 2025. We invite you to learn more about PACF’s impact and to continue partnering with us as we build a stronger, more vibrant Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park. Supporting Students, Strengthening Schools When students are struggling with anxiety, trauma, or housing instability, learning takes a back seat. Counseling & Support Services for Youth (CASSY) steps in to change that, bringing free, school-based mental health support directly to the children and teens who need it most. With on-campus therapists embedded in schools from transitional kindergarten through high school, CASSY offers counseling, crisis intervention, and proactive education free of charge to students and families. In East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park, where many students face trauma, housing instability, and rising anxiety around new immigration policies, CASSY’s trusted presence in the Ravenswood City School District ensures care is both accessible and culturally responsive. The impact is clear: last year, 91 percent of students made progress on their treatment goals, and 93 percent of students and parents said CASSY met their needs. Students who feel connected at school are more likely to succeed academically and less likely to experience emotional distress or drop out, outcomes CASSY makes possible every day. “The counseling services are essential to the success of my students.” – Ravenswood City School District staff “CASSY gave me someone to talk to when everything felt overwhelming. Having a counselor at school helped me feel understood, supported, and able to keep going.” — CASSY student Fighting Waste, Feeding Community In a region where excess and need exist side by side, Peninsula Food Runners delivers a powerful solution: rescuing surplus food and delivering it, same day, to neighbors facing food insecurity. Each organization was selected through a data-informed process that combines PACF’s deep community knowledge, close connection to local leaders, and rigorous review of demonstrated results. Together, these investments form a portfolio of high-impact organizations strengthening lives and building a more resilient community. Our grants provided critical support to families facing rising costs, housing instability, and mental health challenges , while also investing in youth programs, the arts, and the environment to ensure our region remains a vibrant place to live. We are equally proud of how we provide support. All PACF grants are made as general operating support , trusting organizations to direct funds where they are most needed. Guided by our long history and local knowledge, we make multi-year commitments to proven partners. In 2025, this represented 65.75 percent of our grantmaking , supporting youth development, mental health, food security, housing, and community strength. At the same time, we know communities evolve. Addressing persistent challenges requires new ideas and partners. In 2025, 5.49 percent of our grants went to first-time grantees bringing innovative approaches to these same priority issues. $ 0 Helping Children and Youth Thrive $ 0 Strengthening Local Communities $ 0 Embracing the Arts and Our Environment $ 0 Supporting Mental Health and Wellness $ 0 Addressing Food Insecurity and Affordable Housing Explore the full list of grantees PACF donors made possible in FY 2025 here . Their goal was to provide "community capital" for Palo Alto’s services. In 1979, the Palo Alto Fund was established as part of the Community Foundation Silicon Valley (CFSV), with community leaders like Gary Fazzino, Betsy Bechtel, and William Seethaler serving as advisors. The first gift, $59,000, came from Bernice Mitchell’s Learning House project, designated to benefit children in the area. Early support grew with a $100,000 gift from the Palo Alto Credit Union, named the Kopriva Fund after its longtime Executive Director, Robert C. Kopriva. As the Fund matured, it launched key initiatives like the Pooled Income Fund in 1987 and held its first grant reception in 1991, awarding $20,000 to local nonprofits. In 1994, the Centennial Board contributed $526,000 to the Fund, significantly boosting its endowment. The Fund became an independent 501(c)3 in 1998, growing its assets through campaigns like “$2 Million by 2000.” In 2002, it changed its name to the Palo Alto Community Fund (PACF) and continued to expand its impact. A major milestone was in 2009, when PACF received its first $50,000 grant from the Packard Foundation, enabling the organization to increase grantmaking significantly. Today, PACF continues to fund a broad array of areas, including arts, education, youth mental health, health and wellness, housing affordability, and more, making a lasting impact on the communities of Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park.  Who We Are Our Team Our History Financials FAQ Get in Touch Palo Alto Community Fund PO Box 50634 Palo Alto, CA 94303 650.690.0370 Tax ID: EIN 77-0483215 Join Our Mailing List Email Address * First Name * Last Name * Give Today We take the guesswork out of giving local, drawing on 40+ years of impact and partnership. Your donation goes to support PACF grant awards given to nonprofit organizations that serve the communities of Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park in five focus areas of impact: Accessible After School Programs Addressing Food Insecurity and Affordable Housing Embracing the Arts and our Environment Helping Children and Youth Thrive Strengthening Local Communities ▸ How does a nonprofit organization apply for a grant from PACF? PACF awards our traditional annual grants once a year.  In early December, a grant application is posted on the PACF website (in the “Grantees” section) with the due dates for the upcoming grants cycle.  A nonprofit organization seeking funds needs to complete the application and submit it by the due date according to the instructions on the grant application.  We also have other grants including the Dave Mitchell Impact Grants, Emergency Grants, and the Cammie Vail Community Resilience Grants, for which we do not accept applications. ▸ How does PACF select its grantees? Grantee selection is guided by the PACF Grants Committee, including members of the Board of Directors and the CEO. Each application received is reviewed for community impact, financial soundness, and clarity of purpose. Grants Committee representatives interview each applicant. Group meetings are held to analyze and evaluate both the organization and the grant proposal. In the Spring, the slate of grantees is reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors. ▸ How much does PACF give back to the community annually? In FY 2025, PACF invested over $1.8 million in grant awards to nonprofit organizations serving Palo Alto, East Palo Alto, and Menlo Park. ▸ Is there a minimum donation you will accept? No. We are grateful for a donation at any level. Donations are accepted in many ways including online credit card and bank transfers. ▸ Does PACF accept stock gifts? A gift of appreciated stock made directly from your account to PACF may have positive tax consequences, check with your tax advisor. To make a stock gift, please follow these instructions. ▸ Does PACF accept planned gifts? There are many ways to remember the Palo Alto Community Fund in your estate plan. Leave a bequest in your will. Name the Fund as a beneficiary of assets remaining in your living trust. Make the Fund a beneficiary of an entire retirement plan or a percentage of assets in the plan. Designate the Fund as a beneficiary of any individual or group term life insurance policy. By remembering the Palo Alto Community Fund in your estate plan, you are perpetuating our mission to improve the quality of life in our community by supporting the work of new and existing nonprofits serving Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park. Your personal attorney or financial planner can assist you to ensure that all of the documentation is completed correctly and that your intentions are fulfilled. To learn about more ways to leave a legacy, contact our CEO Irene Wong at 650-690-0370. ▸ What is an endowment? An endowment fund is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. Endowment assets are invested. Each year a percentage of the fund is paid out to support PACF’s annual grant making cycle, and any earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the fund’s market value. In this way, an endowment fund can grow and provide support for its designated purpose in perpetuity. ▸ Do donations just support the PACF Endowment Fund? You have options and can designate your donation to: Go into the Annual Fund, where your gift will be applied to the next grant making cycle. Go into the Endowment Fund, which will provide for current and future growth. Go into the area that PACF deems has the greatest need. Go into a combination of the Endowment Fund and Annual Fund. Together, we strengthened organizations tackling our region's affordable housing crisis, enhanced mental health resources for youth, and provided crucial support to help those with the least access to resources, from educational initiatives to essential after-school and community programs. The collective community impact we are making would not be possible without the PACF family—our nonprofit partners and committed supporters. Their contributions these past several years have been invaluable in shaping the vision and impact of PACF. Meeting the Moment Responding to Emergencies and Immediate Needs PACF’s knowledge of emerging needs, combined with our strong ties to the community, allows us to be strategic with our investments and act quickly to support our neighbors in times of crisis. In FY 2024, we demonstrated our nimbleness by awarding two Cammie Vail Executive Director Grants. These unsolicited, timely grants address urgent challenges and empower local partners who are ready to act with effective, community-based solutions. The first grant was awarded to WeHope to repair kitchen flood damage that disrupted food services for those experiencing homelessness. The second supported MOVE Mountain View , an organization working with the City of Palo Alto and Stanford University to assist the displaced recreational vehicle community on El Camino Real following Caltrans' bike lane paving. Through these actions, PACF remains committed to supporting partners who are delivering real solutions to meet pressing needs in our community. *Photos Courtesy of WeHope and Move Mountain View Welcome to the PACF Family Six First-Time Grantees At PACF, we believe that innovation thrives in our local nonprofit community, just as it does in the world-renowned tech hub that is our backyard.
