I take pride in the personal touch that Pyrus Law offers our clients and colleagues and that extends to how we show our gratitude. Since I started my practice over a decade ago, I've often sent tokens of appreciation to my colleagues via homemade goods made by Pyrus Law Boulange (har har, I love a good pun). Historically, it was coffee toffee courtesy of an amazing Smitten Kitchen recipe ( this is an excellent recipe). Most recently, we've transitioned to toffee pretzels adapting a few recipes to craft my own perfect combination of sweet and salty. I get so many requests for my recipe, I figured it was time to share. Ingredients : 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter  1/8 cup water  1/2 cup sugar 1 bag of pretzels (Note, I usually use ~1/2 bag of Snyder's family sized pretzels for one recipe) Directions : Using a medium sized pot, bring butter to a boil over medium heat. Add water and bring to a boil then add sugar.  Continuously whisk the mixture using a metal whisk until it reaches 308*F. Use a candy thermometer as the temperature cannot be eyeballed. Arrange pretzels over a silicon mat or parchment paper. Drizzle the toffee mixture over the pretzels and allow to cool completely. Work quickly as the toffee is hard to spread once it cools. Break into small clusters. Store in a airtight container to enjoy over the next week, if they last that long! Tips: Use metal tools as this recipe can and will melt plastic. I find that spreading out the pretzels in a single or double layer then drizzling the toffee on top is a more effective way to spread the toffee mixture than tossing it in a bowl. If your toffee comes out grainy, and the butter separates just before reaching the target temperature, the change in temperature was too dramatic (this is what the internet told me). I found that using room temperature butter, and using a larger pot to allow for more effective whisking helped resolve this problem. Do NOT double this recipe. He was the outcast of his beagle-dachshund siblings as the only one blessed with the long legs and stature of a beagle, but he maintained his dachshund ears, soft fur and a head that was disproportionate to his body. He lived an anxious and silly life. His masterpiece was digging through the drywall of his family's home to expose the brick wall behind it. In 2014, he made the journey west with who would become his two moms-- his first mom from Chicago, and his second mom, myself. I remember being struck by the intensity of his separation anxiety and his love for cuddles and food. He joined Pyrus Law in late 2017 after coming to stay for a weekend that turned into eight years together. In his early days with us, his experience as a deconstruction and IT dog were clear. Overtime, he adapted well to his new role as our resident parabeagle, a position he held for eight years. Litha remembers her early days working with Pyrus Law and Strongi's insistence that they share the same office chair with him serving as her back cushion-- he took his role supporting us very literally and seriously. Over the years, Strongi has been the backbone of this firm, always working the longest hours and often being the last to leave the office. DACA had come out just two months earlier and USCIS had just started to accept DACA applications. At the time, I had been practicing immigration law for about eight months and was very much aware of how much I didn't know. Chang Principal Attorney I am a family-based immigration attorney focusing on helping individuals and families deepen their roots in the United States. As the principal attorney at Pyrus Law, I continue to emphasize the values which brought me to this career: providing client-centered immigration legal services to help my clients thrive. I take pride in speaking "human" rather than "legalese", invest in my relationships with my clients, and care for their welfare and success. My clients see me as a partner and an ally in addition to their attorney. I currently specialize in family-based immigration which is informed by my past experience in employment-based immigration and humanitarian immigration. I am a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, raised by immigrant parents in a bilingual Chinese-American household. I am an avid traveler and have spent time living in China and Switzerland. One of my favorite hobbies is grocery shopping in foreign countries. "I am truly devoted to fighting for your family's dreams." I received my Bachelor’s degree from UC San Diego in French Literature and Political Science. I studied law at Northeastern University School of Law. Prior to starting Pyrus Law, I worked as a Dependency Attorney with Sacramento Child Advocates and clerked with the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the Youth Law Center, and International Bridges to Justice. I am also an alumni Americorps volunteer at East Palo Alto Academy High School I am a member of the American Immigration Lawyers' Association, Santa Clara Valley Chapter. In my spare time, I volunteer as the Camp Co-Director and District Chair for Camp Rotary Youth Leadership Award in Rotary District 5170 , a leadership camp for high school students where I have been volunteering for the past two decades. I am happily married to my husband, Eric, and together we have a dog, Strongi, a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Madeline. If I'm not busy doing all that, you may find me crafting, snowboarding or feasting on some Läderach dark chocolate. I am the poster child of the American cultural "tossed salad"--half beagle and half dachshund, raised in a Taiwanese-American-Polish household and now living with my Chinese-American-French family, I have a breadth of multicultural multilingual experiences that I bring with me to my work at Pyrus Law. I treat all clients with the same warmth and carefully inspect their belongings for food or food-like substances. My (re)search skills are unparalleled and I can often sniff out the answers to complex inquiries while putting clients at ease.  I bring to parabeagling almost a decade of experience in IT and networking, as well as five years of experience in being a deconstruction dog.  "I want to make sure you feel welcomed and have no food in your pockets." I was born in Chicago and relocated to the Bay Area in 2014. I've served as the in-house parabeagle at Pyrus Law since 2017.  In my free time, I love to eat, beg for food, and nap with my two human siblings. I love people. Outside of my food bowl, the beach is my happy place. I also dabble in modeling. Strongi passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025. He diligently fulfilled his parabeagle duties through his final day. It doesn’t look like he had any disqualifying criminal or other activities and yet he was still removed because he left his work authorization in his friend’s car with his wallet.
