This 85-hour, yoga alliance certified, training contains a curriculum of the highest standards set in the yoga industry alongside the most up-to-date medical science. Students will gain essential knowledge to equip them with an extensive understanding of the prenatal and postpartum experiences, as well the requirements needed to teach safe and effective prenatal yoga classes. The philosophy of this training is rooted in a mind-body approach to pregnancy, childbirth and parenting preparation with an emphasis on community building and maternal mental health. Topics covered include: Physical and Psychological Benefits of Pre/Postnatal & Baby and Me Yoga, Physiology & Anatomy for all 4 trimesters, Contraindications and Modifications, Maladies and Special Circumstances, Childbirth Education, Modifications for a Pregnant Student in a Regular Class, Partner Poses, Pelvic Floor in Pregnancy and Postpartum, Sequencing, Props, Chakras, Mantras, Visualizations & Ayurveda, Practice Teaching, Observation and Mentorship. It is not necessary to be certified by the Yoga Alliance to teach prenatal yoga. The skills and knowledge you will acquire through this training will complement many professions that deal with pregnancy and childbirth. It is an ideal supplemental education if you are a yogi interested in learning about women’s health, a yoga teacher seeking to develop a niche in pre/postnatal yoga, an educator, counselor, midwife, or other healthcare professional interested in expanding their knowledge in reproductive health and women-centered yoga practice. After the completion of this course, you will feel confident accommodating pregnant women in regular classes, as well as be equipped to teach prenatal, couples workshops and postnatal yoga classes. Students meet in a hybrid in-person/digital format over four non-consecutive weekends, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. sessions on Saturday and Sunday, with a one and a half hour lunch break. The program provides 75 contact hours with lead teachers, as well as expert guest speakers, and requires an additional 10 hours of reading assignments and class observation. Following completion of the certification, trainees have the opportunity to continue their education through mentorships and get in-studio practice teaching and resume building through community classes. In order to enroll, students do not need to be current yoga teachers or Yoga Alliance certified. However, in order to receive a P-RYT Yoga Alliance certificate, students will need to complete (or have already completed) a Yoga Alliance 200 or 500 hour training. Students must attend all four weekends to receive their certificate. Lead Teachers Juliette Kurth Juliette, co-owner of Silverlake Yoga, is a Yoga Alliance certified teacher who has been teaching yoga for over 30 years. During her first pregnancy, she discovered that there were very few yoga studios offering prenatal and postnatal yoga classes, so she decided to immerse herself in the discipline, studying with Rocky Graham at Yoga Works, Elizabeth Noble who founded the Womans’ Health Section of the American Physical Therapist’s Association, as well as the Naropa Institute in Colorado which offered their very first Prenatal Teacher Training Program in 1994. Jonathan Emerson Since co-founding Silverlake Yoga in 1995, I have specialized in teaching beginners. I give clear, concise instructions for getting in and out of poses and continually stress the importance of focusing on the breath to stay relaxed.
