MORE INFO You can see the GLOWING RESULTS  in every child’s smile Friendly SJDN staff build positive relationships with both children and families in the program, and develop partnerships with parents to support their child. SJDN requires staff to continue their professional development, no matter their level of education. Play Areas The indoor and outdoor environment supports children’s learning in all areas of development. Materials are selected to enhance and support children’s play. Experienced All staff have experience working or volunteering with children, whether it be in a center based program or more informal setting. Learning Staff facilitate children’s learning by providing hands on learning experiences that support development in all areas. Success Stories Carol Carol was a single mother of a six-month old baby girl when she came to us very worried about who would take care of her daughter when she made the decision to go back to work and school. The tuition subsidies that Carol received for her daughter enabled her to “finally get off welfare” (quote from Carol), get a job and support her family, and go back to school. Carol feels secure in the care her daughter receives at the Nursery and she feels grateful that “Staff are so loving”. Carol’s daughter has since graduated from the Infant to the Toddler Room, and has progressed and is now a happy Preschooler in our program. Carol is amazed at the progress her preschool daughter has made by being part of the Nursery environment; she has also recently enrolled her new baby in our infant program, who is also progressing happily in the loving and nurturing care of our infant staff team. We are proud of Carol, too, as she has recently graduated from a teacher credential program and now has a full-time teaching position that has enable her to increase her income and bring her family closer to self-sufficiency. Her family still is not to the level of complete self-sufficiency, but thanks to generous donations from our financial supporters, she is able to balance her child development costs with her costs of providing the necessities for her family! David David was initially attracted to the Nursery 3 years ago because it offered income based tuition that he could afford for his two children while he was working and going to school. He enrolled his children and became an active part of the Nursery’s thriving community of children and families. When he was laid off from his company he was concerned that his children would have to leave the Nursery and miss out on the important early learning they were experiencing. Fortunately, the Nursery was able to provide him subsidized funding to keep his children enrolled. When the State of California budget cuts resulted in the Nursery losing that subsidized funding he once again faced the inability to pay for quality early learning experiences for his children. Once again the Nursery stepped up and found alternative financial support so his family could remain part of the Nursery community. He is extremely grateful to the staff at the Nursery for helping him find the necessary financial resources in his family’s time of need. Chloe A sweet, cheerful, three year-old was enrolled in San Jose Day Nursery’s subsidized early learning program when she was 13 months old. Little “Chloe” has endured many changes in her young life. She was put into foster care when her mother was unable to raise her. She was unsuccessfully returned to her mother several times, and finally adopted by her foster parents. During this transition time in little “Chloe’s” life her foster parents kept her enrolled at the Nursery to provide her important stability in an already unstable life. Throughout all these changes, her foster parents, in partnership with the Nursery, provided her consistent love and support. Her foster mother, now parent, cannot say enough good things about the care she receives at the Nursery, “Children are encouraged to be respectful, independent and to have empathy for others. The Nursery teaches children in a non-aggressive way to be good at setting boundaries and how to express themselves.” Our Sponsors Donate via PayPal 33 North 8th Street San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 288-9667   [email protected] We are a 501(C)3 Non Profit Organization, Tax ID 94-1164664 Find us on… Home About us Tuition Get Involved Willow Glen Home Tour Contact © Copyright 2016-2024 | San Jose Day Nursery Design By WireB Graphics ◈ Interior Pages — 13 pages crawledContact - San Jose Day Nursery Home About us Our Staff Tuition Preschool Toddler Room Infant Get Involved Home Tour Contact Donate via PayPal Contact Home Contact San Jose Day Nursery 33 North 8th Street San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 288-9667 [email protected] www.sjdn.org We are conveniently located in downtown San Jose, on North 8th Street, between East Santa Clara and St. John Streets, just two blocks from City Hall. 33 North 8th Street San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 288-9667 [email protected] We are a 501(C)3 Non Profit Organization, Tax ID 94-1164664 Find us on… Home About us Tuition Get Involved Willow Glen Home Tour Contact © Copyright 2016-2024 | San Jose Day Nursery Design By WireB Graphics Preschool - San Jose Day Nursery Home About us Our Staff Tuition Preschool Toddler Room Infant Get Involved Home Tour Contact Donate via PayPal Preschool Home Preschool Preschool Goals to provide children with hands on learning experiences that allow them to make choices and develop a love for learning to prepare children both socially and academically for the next step, and for life Weekly Tuition Fees 2023-2024 Academic Year Gross Monthly income < $6,250 $389 Gross Monthly income $4,001- $6250 $371 Gross Monthly income < $4,000 $332 Gross Monthly income < $3,500 $312 Gross Monthly income < $3,000 $294 Monthly Tuition Fees 2023-2024 Academic Year Gross Monthly income < $6,250 $1,606 Gross Monthly income $4,001- $6250 $1,526 Gross Monthly income < $4,000 $1,365 Gross Monthly income < $3,500 $1,284 Gross Monthly income < $3,000 $1,205 Part Time: 2 or 3 days per week at $119.00 per day (4 day enrollment charged as full week) Payment Options Weekly (every Friday) Bi-Weekly (every other Friday) = Double the weekly fee each payment. What The Parents Say “We looked at many daycare options before our daughter was born; from in-home care to nannies, large centers to small, private options. Ultimately we decided on San Jose Day Nursery because we liked the warm welcome we received at the time we visited, the inclusive atmosphere and the focus on individual child development. Our daughter started at San Jose Day Nursery at 3 months old in the Infant Care Room. Over a year later, we are still pleased with our decision. We have recommended SJDN to many friends and have nothing but positive things to say about our time here. SJDN is a special place. The teachers are kind, caring and really get to know each child as the unique individual they are. Our daughter loves going to “school” and literally runs into her teacher’s arms each morning. Knowing your child is safe, loved and nurtured is truly priceless. We are so grateful for all that they do for our family.” SJDN Parent “We’re so lucky to be a part of San Jose Day Nursery. This unassuming center is bubbling over with love, nurturing care, and a curriculum that encourages learning through exploration and fun. Our daughter looks forward to going to school every day. The teachers observe the children’s natural curiosities and encourage their development through interesting activities and play. The curriculum adjusts to the children, not vice versa, which is so refreshing in this age of rigid standards. Our daughter has emerged from shyness by learning to be strong and assertive and communicate effectively with her peers and teachers. She has also learned to share and be sensitive and empathetic. The teachers and staff have an amazing ability to diffuse typical childhood conflicts lovingly and respectfully. I feel like our entire family benefits from the educational philosophy of the school. SJDN does an amazing job of caring for and educating children in a way that respects who they are as individuals while teaching them to work cooperatively in a group. The children learn so much, and more importantly, they are excited to learn. It’s amazing how much fun it is. My only complaint is that our daughter will have to leave when it’s time for kindergarten!” SJDN Parent “We looked at many daycare options before our daughter was born; from in-home care to nannies, large centers to small, private options. I had joined because, as a former teacher, children are a cornerstone of my life. It was obvious that the funds raised went directly to serving the children, and it has remained so.” Pat Calfee “Since its establishment, San Jose Day Nursery has expanded its services to meet the needs of the changing Santa Clara County community and continues to carry on the tradition of providing affordable childcare.” Ken Yeager “As a former School Board Member, I knew that children with early childhood development and education skills were ready to learn, enjoyed school more and were successful in their academic challenges. I was sold on San Jose Day Nursery and signed up to support their early childhood development and education programs and facility expansions.” Forrest Williams As a parent of a child at the Nursery, I see firsthand on a daily basis the teachers’ commitment to loving, quality care for the children. Located in downtown San Jose since 1916, the San Jose Day Nursery is committed to providing a fundamental learning curriculum and excellent childcare services for the young children of the community. Founded in 1916 and located at our present site since 1936, the Nursery is committed to meeting the dynamic needs, expectations, and hopes of parents who are looking for high quality Early Care and Education. In a complex community environment, the Nursery seeks a staff and Board who possess a diversity of skills and heritages, empathy and relativity in family relations, and leadership in the conduct of programs and agency management. The Nursery enjoys exceptional staff stability – an important contributor to program quality, effective communication, and the establishment of trusting relationships. All teaching staff are specifically trained in child development. The essential combination of specialized education and experience serves as the source of the expertise necessary to cope with the intricate issues of our children and families. In addition to this extensive training a variety of staff members are multilingual. Fluency in Mandarin, Chinese, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and Spanish facilitate initial child and adult adjustment and foster continuing communications and understanding. Our Capacity Pre-Schoolers Toddlers Infants Our Multi-faceted Story As you can imagine, the Nursery has had many children pass through our doors over the years. It would be difficult to identify any one story as completely representative of the San Jose Day Nursery. We are a community of many cultures, backgrounds, and experiences — all of which enrich the overall environment for our children. Our staff, volunteers, and many supporters also reflect this diverse range, everyone bringing something new to enliven the mix. This variety is entirely appropriate, given our location in one of the county’s most diverse neighborhoods. Like a multi-colored quilt or mosaic, our individual viewpoints combine to create a masterful work of art. Over the Nursery’s 100-year history, we have watched many bright, happy children develop into even brighter, content, mature adults. Some have visited the Nursery, and others have brought the next generation of children by enrolling their own children into the program. Program Description Preschool Care and Education Infant and Early Toddler Care and Education Older Toddler Care and Education Preschool Care and Education Our 1 to 8 staff ratio strengthens the skills of initiation leading to a growing understanding that resourcefulness can change their world. Developmentally appropriate language, socialization and cognitive activities lead to kindergarten readiness and life long success. Our 3 through 5 years olds build skills that prepare them for the social experience and learning opportunities of their elementary years. Our well-qualified teachers work assisting each child in building self-esteem and developing essential skills for a successful start in school. Our staff facilitates child-initiated cooperative, problem-solving, and conflict resolution activities by Asking children to participate in planning their activities, including how they are going to do it, and Making suggestions to set the stage for child-initiated experiences that stimulate language, socialization, and thinking. Infant and Early Toddler Care and Education Our 1 to 3 staff ratio focuses on building positive attachments between children and adults, contributing to the development of the life long trust that the child’s individual’s needs can be met. Housed in a separate and quiet building across the playground, the infant program provides a nurturing atmosphere that builds trust and attachment with caregivers for children from six weeks to two years of age. The goals of our infant care program are: To enhance infants’ perceptions that the world is a place where their needs will be met, and To begin infants’ ability to enter into two-way, lasting emotional relationships. Older Toddler Care and Education Our 1 to 4 staff ratio provides increased curriculum and developmental support, including focused toilet training, promoting foundational self help skills that are necessary for life long independence. Our 2 to 3 years olds develop mental tasks and associated outcomes, characterized by the search for independence, which is paramount for this age group. Early childhood specialists help our toddlers become independent and learn to get along with others. We also encourage good nutritional habits, and in cooperation with parents, promote toilet-training. The goals of our toddler care program are: To enhance toddlers’ sense of control over their own life by providing a safe environment to explore the outcomes of their choices, and To begin a sense of trust that one’s feelings, impulses, and choices will lead to appropriate and accepted outcomes. OUR HEALTHY HABITS PROGRAM i s a cornerstone for all our program activities! I believe the language, socialization and cognitive development skills my child is learning at the Nursery will prepare him for a successful transition to school Mary Jo Coash “As the City of San Jose’s Early Care & Education Manager, I strongly support the work of San Jose Day Nursery in the community. San Jose Day Nursery has a long-term, solid reputation for providing high-quality services to young children and their families. We are proud to have San Jose Day Nursery as part of the Smart Start San José program and often site it as a model of high quality early education.” Dawn Perry 33 North 8th Street San Jose, CA 95112 (408) 288-9667 [email protected] We are a 501(C)3 Non Profit Organization, Tax ID 94-1164664 Find us on… Home About us Tuition Get Involved Willow Glen Home Tour Contact © Copyright 2016-2024 | San Jose Day Nursery Design By WireB Graphics Our Staff - San Jose Day Nursery Home About us Our Staff Tuition Preschool Toddler Room Infant Get Involved Home Tour Contact Donate via PayPal Our Staff Home Our Staff EDUCATION THROUGH PLAY San Jose Day Nursery Produces extraordinary results at a lower average cost per student than other child development centers and preschools Our staff members are multilingual. Fluency in English, Tagalog and Spanish facilitate initial child and adult adjustment and foster continuing communication and understanding San Jose Day Nursery is licensed by the California Department of Social Services (DSS) Community Care Licensing (CCL) to care for children ages six weeks to six years. CCL licensing requirements are extensive and regulate almost all areas of operation. Examples of areas regulated are: Staff qualifications Ratios of children to qualified adults Extensive record keeping related to the health, safety, and personal rights of children and their families. To meet licensing requirements, preschool teachers must complete a minimum of 12 units in Early Childhood Education. We are fortunate to have caring dedicated teachers that far exceed these requirements. Many of our staff have college degrees in child development or are enrolled in Child Development classes. Our staff participate in ongoing training to further their knowledge, skills, and professional development. In addition to their educational background, many of our teachers have years of experience working with young children and their families. Key components of program quality are staff experience and stability. Unfortunately, extremely high staff turnover is the norm for most childcare centers. The quality of our program is based on the many staff members that have made long-term commitments to our program and the early childhood profession. A variety of our staff are multilingual.
