Here in our SLO county educational community, love and connectivity is felt throughout our schools. Students, like my 1990's younger self, are invested in, known, and seen. My favorite place to be, other than the beach, is at school. For over 40 years I have attended or served in schools- and, second to raising my own children, this is my greatest honor. As a first generation college going student, I needed guidance, support, and educators who believed in- I found genuine care and dedication in SLO county schools. The positive impact our educational community has had on my life, and the life of my daughters, fuels my heart and daily drive to have the same positive impact on the lives of my students." x BY THE NUMBERS SLO County Schools 90.8% High School Graduation Rate 27% Dual Enrollment Participation 13 Local Education Agencies 84 Total Schools 3, Programs | San Luis Obispo County Office of Education About Our Mission and Values San Luis Obispo County Board of Education Programs Personnel Commission News Posts Strategic Plan Departments Administration Business Services Educational Support Services Human Resources Information Technology Services Innovations In Education Operational Services Student Programs and Services Districts County-Wide Schools Phone Directory Maps to County Schools Maps to District and County Offices Almond Acres Charter Academy Atascadero Unified School District Bellevue-Santa Fe Charter School Cayucos Elementary School District Coast Unified School District Cuesta College (San Luis Obispo Community College) Grizzly ChalleNGe Charter School Lucia Mar Unified School District Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Pleasant Valley Joint Union Elementary School District San Luis Coastal Unified School District San Miguel Joint Union School District Shandon Joint Unified School District Templeton Unified School District Resources For Parents and Public For Districts For Employees Compliance Policies for Parents and Students Compliance Policies for Employees Health and Safety What is Title IX? Employment Employment Opportunities Recruitment & Retention Current Board Agenda Watch COE-TV What is Title IX? Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”) is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in all educational programs and activities, including athletic programs. Title IX states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Title IX protects all participants in San Luis Obispo County Office of Education (“SLOCOE”) educational programs and activities, including students, parents, employees, and job applicants. SLOCOE does not discriminate on the basis of sex. Discrimination on the basis of sex can include sexual harassment and sexual violence. In addition to Title IX, the California Education Code prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in schools (California Education Code § 220-221.1). Other state and federal laws also prohibit discrimination and ensure equality in education. SLOCOE has a responsibility to respond promptly and effectively to sex-based discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. If SLOCOE knows or reasonably should know about sex discrimination, it must take action to eliminate the sex discrimination, prevent its recurrence, and address its effects. SLOCOE must resolve complaints of sex discrimination promptly and equitably. Information on filing a complaint alleging sex-based discrimination is below, including contact information for SLOCOE’s Title IX Coordinator. What are my rights under Title IX?
