Very satisfied with visit. Friendly staff and great care and advice from doctor. Spent plenty of time explaining my issues and provided suggestions to treat them.

Dr. Jay, Cindy and Christine are wonderful. They really care. I've had trouble with my hip for well over a year and physical therapy and lots of other things just didn't work. Dr. Jay took an x-ray and told me it was my low back, and I could see why. They've been doing decompression, laser, ultrasound plus regular adjustments and it's so much better. By next month, I'll be golden.

Contact Us Auto Injuries Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Auto Injuries Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment With more vehicles on the road than ever before, automobile accidents have unfortunately become a common occurrence. Even the most confident and experienced driver can make mistakes that sometimes have catastrophic results. Estimates suggest that there are around 2.35 million auto injuries in the United States every year – more than 6,000 every single day – and while some injuries may be minor, others can have debilitating and sometimes permanent consequences. Neck and back damage is among the most common type of injury sustained during automobile accidents. This is because the force of the impact overextends and strains the ligaments and muscles in the back, causing injuries including: Compression fractures These occur when the upper part of the body is thrown forward while the lower body is restrained by a seat belt. When this happens, the vertebrae can be pulled apart, causing them to fracture. In severe cases, the spinal cord may also become damaged by fractured pieces of bone. Disc herniation The intervertebral discs are sponge-like circular pads that sit in-between the vertebrae. They have several functions, including enabling the spine to absorb impacts without becoming damaged. However, if the outer layer of a disc becomes damaged, the soft, inner gel can seep out and irritate the surrounding nerves. Spondylolisthesis This condition occurs when a vertebra moves out of place due to force or a fracture in the bone. The displaced bone may then press on the surrounding nerves, causing pain and other neurological symptoms. Whiplash Whiplash is most common in rear-end collisions as the impact of the secondary car forces your head to ‘whip’ backward and forwards in quick succession and as a result, the muscles in the neck are overextended. How can chiropractic care help treat auto-injuries? Chiropractic care focuses on rebalancing the musculoskeletal system and realigning the spine so that the body can heal itself. In doing so, a chiropractic adjustment can have a number of beneficial effects. These include: Reducing inflammation Inflammation is a common side effect of any type of injury and is essentially your immune system rushing to help the damaged area. While some inflammation is an indicator of the body’s natural healing process, too much or chronic inflammation can cause serious pain, autoimmune illnesses, and hypersensitivity. Less pain Pain is a natural occurrence after any type of injury. However, studies have shown that chiropractic care after an accident can help release more pain-reducing hormones, which many people prefer rather than a reliance on prescription pain relief. Less scar tissue Scar tissue can form inside the body as well as out, and this thickening of the tissue can cause muscles to feel stiff and uncomfortable. In some cases, the patient may experience a limited range of movement that restricts their day-to-day activities. Chiropractic manipulations can reduce the amount of scar tissue that forms. Improved mobility Neck and back injuries almost always have an effect on the patient’s mobility. However, chiropractic adjustments will mobilize your spine and encourage the healing process to begin. As a result, your mobility should begin to return much sooner. An automobile accident doesn’t have to mean permanent injury or disability. In many instances, chiropractic care from a qualified and experienced professional can help reduce your pain and restore your ability to live your life to the fullest once again. Contact Us Neck Pain Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Neck Pain Pain Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Neck pain is a relatively common ailment, which most of us will experience at least once in our lifetime. In most cases, neck pain will improve and disappear on its own, but if you frequently suffer from this problem, or find that conventional ways of relieving your pain are not working, you may want to consider chiropractic care. About neck pain The neck is a very important part of our body, containing the very top of the spine, called the cervical spine as well as many blood vessels and nerves that supply structures including our esophagus, larynx, trachea and thyroid gland. The neck is also home to major blood vessels including the carotid arteries and jugular veins. When there is tension in the neck, it can have a significant impact on the flow of blood between the head and body, as well as cause compression of the nerves and potentially the spinal cord. When this happens, it can have an effect on other areas of the body, including the upper and lower limbs. What causes neck pain? In many instances, the exact cause of neck pain may never be known, but some of the most common causes believed to be behind the majority of cases include: Sleeping in an awkward position Bad posture Trapped nerve An injury, such as from a vehicle collision or fall The pain you experience may also differ. It may be a constant dull ache or a sharp pain that occurs when you place your head a certain way or perform a specific movement, such as turning your head from side to side. In many cases, neck pain may be accompanied by other symptoms, including swelling or inflammation in the neck, pain that radiates into the shoulders or upper arms, or headaches. How can chiropractic care help reduce my neck pain? Chiropractors focus on treating problems with the musculoskeletal system which consists of the bones, ligaments, muscles, and tendons in your body that enable movement. This includes your cervical spine which is the top part of the spine located in your neck. Chiropractic care involves several different elements, and the treatment you receive will depend on the extent and cause of your discomfort. It may involve a combination of spinal realignment using manual manipulation, chiropractic adjustments. Your chiropractor will also be trained and experienced in giving advice regarding lifestyle changes that you may wish to make that may help to alleviate your condition further or prevent additional episodes from occurring. This can include guidance on nutrition, exercise, and recommendations for sleeping positions. You don't have to continue to suffer from neck pain. Our trained and highly experienced chiropractor can help alleviate your discomfort. Please contact our offices today to arrange your consultation. Contact Us Herniated Disc Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Herniated Disc Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Intervertebral discs are found all throughout the spinal column except for the C1 and C2 vertebrae (the Axis and Atlas). These discs act to cushion the vertebrae from each other as well as the impacts that are felt throughout the spinal column. While many people will describe painful back issues as a “slipped disc,” this isn’t really the case as the intervertebral discs don’t actually slide out of place. What many people experience is called a bulge. This bulging disc is also called a herniated disc. Causes of a Herniated Disc Herniated discs may occur for a variety of reasons. A damaged disc may be the result of poor posture or due to the patient being overweight which places additional stress on the spinal column. Discs may also become herniated due to a sports or other traumatic injury. Some patients have even suggested that a relatively minor activity, such as a sneeze, has caused a herniated disc. This is usually the end result of a long-term weakening of the disc that has been unnoticed until a small movement finally makes the injury apparent. Signs of a Herniated Disc The signs and symptoms of a herniated disc can vary widely. This is because damaged discs manifest in different ways at various points in the spinal column. For instance, discs that are damaged in the lower back may cause intense pain in the legs, lower back, or buttocks. But if the herniated disc is in the neck, pain is more likely to present in the shoulders or arms. The pain experienced from a herniated disc can also be felt as a sharp, shooting pain when you sneeze, cough, or move in a specific position. Many people who have experienced a herniated disc also describe numbness or tingling in their extremities. This numbness and tingling may be felt in the same area as the pain which is related to the location of the herniated disc. The longer that an individual goes with a herniated disc, the more likely they are to also experience weakness due to the inability of nerves to properly communicate with the affected body parts. The lack of a signal leads to muscle atrophy and a weakening of the muscles. Treatment Options If you are experiencing shooting pain in the arms, shoulders, legs, or buttocks that is accompanied by numbness or tingling, you should consider seeking medical treatment. Many people often consult with their chiropractor first who can offer a treatment plan that is specifically designed for them. Your chiropractor may recommend including adjustments or manual manipulation in conjunction with therapeutic exercises to help relieve your pain and correct the problem. Chiropractic adjustments are designed to help your herniated disc in a variety of ways. Typically, manual manipulations are designed to ensure that your spine is in the correct position. Proper spine alignment can help with the effects of a herniated disc by moving the disc away from the nerve or by reducing the pressure that is causing the disc deformity. Nerves that are impinged against the spine or that are subjected to increased pressure can be the cause of your pain or numbness. Proper spine alignment can help the disc resume the appropriate shape and allow it to heal. Manual adjustments have also been shown to increase the disc height which offers additional cushioning for your joints. Overview A herniated disc can be an excruciatingly painful experience. Individuals who experience a herniated disc are often desperate to find immediate solutions to their pain. Utilizing chiropractic care is a non-invasive technique that doesn’t require the lengthy recovery times that are needed by surgeries. Additionally, chiropractic care may help to reduce or eliminate a patient’s need for potentially addictive medications. If you are experiencing pain and suspect that you may have a herniated disc, you should schedule an appointment with your chiropractor today so that they can help you return to a pain-free life. Contact Us Carpal Tunnel Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Carpal Tunnel Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment As the professional community ages, the diagnoses of carpal tunnel syndrome continue to rise. Carpal tunnel syndrome is commonly associated with the repetitive movement related to typing on a keyboard with improper hand positioning. Carpal tunnel syndrome creates a burning, numbness, or tingling sensation in the hands or wrists and can occur on one or both sides. Carpal tunnel release and surgeries associated with relieving the pain associated with carpal tunnel are increasing every year. Unfortunately, the success of these surgeries is only seen in about half of the population. If you have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome and are currently considering your options for pain relief, one you should definitely consider is chiropractic care. What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway in your wrist where the median nerve passes through and then into your hand. Any inflammation or swelling of the carpal tunnel can constrict or cause pressure to occur on the median nerve. This interruption of your nerve's ability to function can cause the suite of problems associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. Women are three times more likely to develop carpal tunnel syndrome and while scientists are not certain why this occurs, they suggest that it may be due to the smaller size of the carpal tunnel in women when compared to their male counterparts. Diagnosing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome The diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome can be notoriously difficult. Any issues with the median nerve anywhere in the body can cause similar problems, making it difficult for an initial diagnosis. Some of the other possibilities that your chiropractor will try to rule out are arthritis, subluxations, or herniated discs in the spinal column that may interfere with the medial nerve before it reaches the carpal tunnel. Conducting Invasive Treatments While your doctor may suggest surgery as a possibility, it is essential to recognize that there are many possible misdiagnoses and complications associated with this procedure. The high number of ineffective operations suggests that there may have been a misdiagnosis in the first place. Additionally, surgeries require significant preparation, cost, and recovery time. So before you schedule an invasive procedure, it would be wise to meet with your chiropractor and get their opinion first. Treating Carpal Tunnel Syndrome with Chiropractic Care Many people overlook the potential option of chiropractic care before they schedule their surgeries. This may be because many people think that chiropractors only deal with issues as they relate to the back and neck. However, chiropractors are trained to deal with issues concerning the nerves that travel throughout the body. They have specific knowledge about non-invasive techniques that reduce or eliminate the problems that may be associated with nerve damage or restriction. In the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome, your chiropractor will review the entire course that your medial nerve travels throughout the body to ensure they can identify where the issue is occurring. The median nerve originates in the cervical spine and your chiropractor will follow the path of the nerve to the hand and then use techniques to help alleviate your pain. One of these techniques involves the gentle manipulation of the cervical spine, elbow, and wrist to try to reduce pressure on the nerve. Your chiropractor may also use other non-invasive techniques such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, or heat therapies to alleviate your pain. Overview If you opt to not get carpal tunnel syndrome treated, it may lead to long-term or permanent damage to the median nerve which can cause permanent numbness, tingling, or pain in your hand. In most cases, back pain subsides on its own through rest and other conservative measures. However, if your pain persists, it may point to a more serious underlying health problem. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic in San Jose, California, Jay Ebadat, DC, provides holistic, integrative care for back pain, including spinal decompression, and cold laser therapy. To schedule an appointment, book a consultation online, or call the office today. Back Pain Q&A What is back pain? Of all the musculoskeletal problems, back pain is the most common worldwide. Each year, it costs the US economy billions of dollars in missed work and lost productivity. Fortunately, with early intervention, it’s possible to treat back pain. Conservative care measures and improved posture can ease symptoms, encourage mobility, and speed up your body’s natural healing process. What are the symptoms of back pain? Back pain affects everyone differently. Sometimes, it causes painful shooting, stabbing, or burning sensations. Other times, it results in a dull ache or pain that radiates down your buttocks and into your legs. Most back pain responds to rest, light exercise, and over-the-counter medication. If your back pain persists for longer than two weeks, causes weakness or tingling in your legs, or occurs alongside unexplained weight loss, it’s important to seek professional medical help right away. What are some common causes of back pain? Back pain occurs for various reasons. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic, Dr. Ebadat regularly treats back pain caused by: Muscle and ligament strains Bulging or ruptured discs Arthritis Osteoporosis Auto injuries Sports injuries He also treats back pain caused by slip-and-fall accidents and work-related injuries. How is back pain diagnosed? To diagnose back pain, Dr. Ebadat reviews your medical history, asks about your symptoms and lifestyle, and conducts a physical exam. During the exam, Dr. Ebadat has you stand up, walk around the exam room, and perform a series of range-of-motion exercises. He also has you rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10. These tests help him determine how much you can move before pain interferes, and if you have muscle spasms. They also help rule out other more serious causes of back pain. If Dr. Ebadat suspects a musculoskeletal condition like arthritis or osteoporosis is causing your back pain, he orders diagnostic imaging, like X-rays or an MRI. These tools provide detailed images of your bones, joints, and soft tissues. How is back pain treated? Treatment for back pain depends on the severity of your symptoms and their effect on your ability to work, exercise, or perform other routine tasks. Usually, Dr. Ebadat recommends conservative, holistic treatments like rest, eating a balanced diet, quitting smoking, and losing weight. If your back pain persists even after these changes, he might recommend: Spinal decompression Cold laser therapy Anodyne® infrared light therapy Chiropractic adjustments Physical therapy modality Rehabilitation exercises You might also benefit from a back brace or exercises to improve your posture. To learn more about treatment for back pain, schedule an appointment at South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic. Lower back pain is also a leading cause of absence from work due to ill health, even though more than half of all cases are believed to be a direct result of the patient doing a job that involves continual sitting. In many cases, the back pain is either not severe enough for the patient to seek professional intervention or it resolves itself within a few days. However, there is a percentage of individuals who suffer from chronic, recurrent back pain and are reliant on pain medication to help keep them comfortable day today. Fortunately, there is no longer any need to suffer from ongoing lower back pain. Chiropractic care from a trained and experienced professional can help relieve your discomfort and enable you to work, sleep and enjoy life without worrying about back pain. What causes lower back pain? The lower back, also known as the lumbar, works with the bones of the pelvis to help support the weight of our body as well as to stabilize, rotate, flex and bend the spinal column. Lower back pain has been attributed to many different things, but medical professionals tend to agree that a sedentary lifestyle, combined with the growing obesity problem, has definitely contributed to the increasing number of people experiencing lower back pain. Posture is also a significant cause of lower back pain. Sitting at laptops and computers for hours on end as well as sitting too long while driving and when watching television are all associated with this type of discomfort. Occasionally, back pain can be attributed to a medical condition such as sciatica, irritation of the nerve that runs from the pelvis to the feet, or a slipped/herniated disc. Nevertheless, it is often impossible to pinpoint an exact cause of lower back pain and is therefore often referred to as ‘non-specific back pain’ by doctors. How can visiting a chiropractor help my lower back pain? Chiropractors focus onn helping resolve problems with the musculoskeletal system, the primary component of which is the spine. Chiropractic adjustments focus on realigning and balancing the spine so that the body can heal naturally and without the need for medications or surgical intervention. You will first be asked to attend a consultation with your chiropractor in order to assess your condition. This will involve finding out more about your general health and lifestyle, as well as discussing your symptoms and undergoing a physical examination of your back. Using this information, it will then be possible for your chiropractor to recommend the best approach to treat your lower back pain. Every patient is unique and so you will receive an individualized treatment plan based upon your current requirements. These are usually flexible since, at this stage, it isn’t possible to know exactly how well you will respond to the chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic adjustments are short, acute, and sudden movements made to your body with the purpose of taking the pressure off of the nerves and spinal cord, which is almost certainly causing your pain. If you have an underlying injury, spinal manipulations may help speed up the healing process. If you are experiencing lower back pain, chiropractic care is a popular and successful treatment. Don’t think you have to continue living with your back pain, call and book an appointment for an assessment today. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic in San Jose, California, Jay Ebadat, DC, leads a team of health care professionals who can diagnose and treat neuropathy. If you think you’re experiencing signs of neuropathy, call South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic, or request an appointment online today. Testimonial Neuropathy Q&A What is neuropathy? Neuropathy, which is also referred to as peripheral neuropathy, is the name for any condition that disrupts the function of the nerves that extend from your spinal cord through the rest of your body. Your peripheral nerves control your senses, ability to move, and your autonomic functions, such as breathing and digestion. As a result, neuropathy can have a wide range of symptoms. Depending on the location of your nerve damage or compression, you may experience: Gradual development and spread of numbness, weakness, and loss of strength in your extremities Sharp or burning pain Increasingly extreme sensitivity to touch Loss of coordination and increased frequency of stumbles and falls Paralysis Heat intolerance Excessive sweating Bowel and bladder problems Changes in blood pressure For example, carpal tunnel syndrome is a type of neuropathy. Swelling in your carpal tunnel compresses the nerves that run through it, and you develop numbness, pins-and-needles, and weakness in your fingers and hands. Similarly, sciatica is a type of neuropathy due to compression of the sciatic nerve in your lower back. What causes neuropathy? Neuropathy develops when something compresses or damages a nerve like inflammation or diabetes complications. A wide variety of conditions can contribute to neuropathy, including: Autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and other conditions that cause chronic inflammation Diabetes Infections, such as Lyme disease and shingles Tumors Bone marrow disorders Underactive thyroid Kidney and liver disease Alcoholism Traumatic injuries Vitamin deficiencies Your risk of developing neuropathy increases if you have a family history of neuropathy or any of the conditions that can damage your nerves. How is neuropathy treated? The team at South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic offers customized treatment plans to manage your neuropathy. For example, they may provide therapies and treatments to manage the condition, causing your neuropathy. They may recommend dietary changes or nutritional supplements to address any vitamin deficiencies and improve your overall health, helping you cope with your neuropathy. Additionally, for severe cases, they may recommend chiropractic care and physical therapy to relieve stress on your nerves and help you improve your strength, flexibility, and balance to reduce your risk of falling and injuring yourself. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic in San Jose, California, Jay Ebadat, DC, offers cold laser therapy on-site as an outpatient procedure. A series of brief treatments can limit discomfort, allowing you to return to your favorite activities. To schedule an appointment, book a consultation online, or call the office today. Cold Laser Therapy Q&A What is cold laser therapy? Cold laser therapy uses targeted, low-intensity light to ease pain and inflammation and encourage your body’s natural healing process. Cold lasers are different from traditional lasers in that they don’t heat your body’s tissue. Instead, your body absorbs the light, which triggers a reaction. The reaction regenerates new, healthy tissues and cells while improving circulation. Additionally, cold laser therapy is pain-free. You never feel the laser touching your skin, and it doesn’t cause vibrations or heat. Each treatment session lasts less than half an hour, and you can return to normal activities immediately afterward. What conditions can cold laser therapy treat? At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic, Dr. Ebadat uses cold laser therapy to treat various musculoskeletal problems, including: Auto injuries Shoulder pain Knee pain Neuropathy Back pain Sports injuries Work injuries Neck pain Bursitis Tendonitis Muscle strains Ligament sprains He also uses cold laser therapy to reduce swelling and promote the healing of joints and soft tissue. Do I qualify for cold laser therapy? To determine if you qualify for cold laser therapy, Dr. Ebadat conducts a physical exam, asks about your symptoms and lifestyle, and reviews your medical history. If you’ve tried conservative methods of care, such as rest, ice, compression, and elevation (the RICE protocol), physical therapy, or over-the-counter medication, and your symptoms persist or get worse, you’ll likely benefit. Because cold laser therapy is non-invasive, it’s safe for people of all ages. How many cold laser therapy appointments will I need? The number of cold laser therapy appointments you’ll need depends on the cause of your pain, the severity of your symptoms, and their effect on your quality of life. Cold laser therapy typically takes 30 minutes or less, but it doesn’t produce immediate results. In fact, many people don’t notice an improvement in their symptoms until they undergo several treatment sessions. Dr. Ebadat develops a custom care plan for each of his patients. Usually, this includes a series of at least six appointments spaced several weeks apart. In order to achieve the best possible outcome, attend all of your follow-up appointments, and carefully adhere to Dr. Ebadat’s recovery instructions. To see if you’re a good candidate for cold laser therapy, schedule an appointment at South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic by calling the office or booking an appointment online. Contact Us Foot Pain & Orthotics Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Pain & Orthotics Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Many people live with consistent and regular foot pain. While others may have pain that occurs only when they are engaged in certain activities. While orthotics may not be the right answer for everyone to help with this pain, it’s a good idea to consult with a professional to decide if orthotics are a good option for you. For many, it is tempting to try to self-diagnose and purchase shoe inserts without consulting with a medical professional first, but the results are often minimal or ineffective. However, this doesn’t mean that you should be unprepared for your visit which is why we’ve compiled some helpful information to get you up to speed on the world of orthotics. Inserts Shoe inserts are available over the counter in many pharmacies and shoe stores and provide an additional cushion when they are placed inside of a shoe. Shoe inserts are constructed from a variety of materials including gel, plastic, or foam. These inserts offer additional support for arches, heels, toes, or the entire foot, but if the inserts are not made specifically for your foot or foot pain, they will not actually help correct any problems that are causing your specific pain. Orthotics Many consumers feel that orthotics and inserts are synonymous. However, there are several distinct differences between the two. Orthotics are prescription medical devices that are specifically designed and tailored to meet your personal needs and can help with your foot position when you stand, walk or run. Orthotics are also prescribed to help with other medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, plantar fasciitis or bursitis and can be prescribed to eliminate the need for surgery to correct flat feet. Determining Your Need Now that you’ve determined that an appointment is necessary, there are a variety of tests and images that your medical professional will gather before deciding the best options for you. Initially, many orthotic appointments include 3-D imaging of the foot to see if they can identify any problems or differences between your feet. Next, you will be given a thorough examination. The examination will include watching you walk to check your stance, foot-strike, hip movement, and ankle movement and how that may relate to the root cause. You will also be given a physical exam to assess your ability to move and stretch your foot in different directions and angles. If it is decided that you need orthotics to help correct an issue, a mold will be made of your feet in order to accurately create an orthotic that will work for you. There are several different materials that are used to develop orthotics, and each has specific benefits and drawbacks which your medical professional will discuss with you. Types of Orthotics There are two basic types of orthotics: rigid and soft. During your appointment, you should make sure to understand which type of orthotic you are receiving and why it is the best option for your condition. Rigid Orthotics – Rigid or functional orthotics are typically made from durable plastic or carbon fiber. These orthotics are best paired with a dress or walking shoes and are specifically designed to ease pain in the foot, legs, thighs, and back that may be caused by issues with how your foot is working. Soft Orthotics – Soft or accommodative orthotics are made from various soft, pliable materials. This form of custom orthotic is designed to ease pain and pressure on certain parts of the foot. They are often very thick and may need to be worn with a custom orthotic shoe so that they will fit without causing additional discomfort. Overview Now that you understand some of the details about orthotics, it’s a good time to speak to a professional about any concerns that you may have. They will be able to discuss the causes of your foot pain as well as your treatment options. It’s never too soon to get rid of the discomfort that you’re having, so schedule an appointment today! Contact Us Arthritis Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Arthritis Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment As people age, it is a common often belief that the pain and discomfort associated with our joints is a normal occurrence that we are forced to live with. While our joints can experience levels of degradation as we age, the pain and reduced mobility that is often associated with arthritis don’t have to be something that we suffer through. Instead, let's review some of the facts about chiropractic care and how it can be beneficial in treating the pain associated with arthritis. Chiropractic Care and Your Joints Many people believe that chiropractors don't do any work beyond that focused on the spine. And while It is true that the majority of work that chiropractors do surrounds issues associated with the spine, if you think this is the only work that chiropractors do, you are likely to miss a lot of the additional benefits of chiropractic care. In addition to spinal work, chiropractors also focus on issues that surround our joints. Since the vertebrae that make up our spinal column contain joints between each individual vertebrae, it becomes more apparent how chiropractors are able to help with your arthritis when you think of them as joint doctors. The Effects of Arthritis Arthritis typically occurs when something irritates the joints, which can be a deterioration of the joint itself. As joints deteriorate, they may become irritated more frequently by multiple factors such as increased movement, regular movement, or changes in temperature which can cause inflammation and pain. This chronic pain and inflammation are what we refer to as arthritis. Many patients take prescription or over-the-counter medications to manage the effects of arthritis, but medications will only treat the symptoms and don’t get to the root cause of your discomfort. Chiropractors and Arthritis During your first visit, your chiropractor will conduct an initial exam. In this exam, they will review your medical and family histories as well as conduct a physical exam. It is during this initial visit that they usually issue a diagnosis and design a treatment plan that is best suited for you. Typically, patients who are experiencing issues related to arthritis can expect their chiropractor to suggest gentle manipulation of those joints over the course of several weeks. You should start to notice the benefits of your treatment plan between two and six weeks. Chiropractic care has been shown to be effective in treating the issues and symptoms associated with arthritis. So much so that patients may not require the use of potentially addicting medications in order to manage pain during their treatment. When to Avoid Alignment If you are experiencing active swelling in your joints, it may be a bad time to have a chiropractor adjust the joint. If you are unsure if you are a good candidate, you should visit your chiropractor to get their advice. However, even if you cannot receive a physical adjustment due to swelling, it is likely that your chiropractor will be able to suggest and conduct other therapies to grant you some relief. Some of these therapies that can be performed in their office include: Ultrasound – While ultrasounds are typically thought of as an imaging tool, they can also produce gentle massage to the offending joints. This massage can decrease swelling, stiffness, and pain in the joint. Electrotherapy – These gentle electric pulses are designed to stimulate nerves and muscles near the painful joint to reduce pain and swelling. Infrared sauna – These rooms are specifically designed and heated to a temperature that provides adequate therapy for relaxing the joints. The warming of the joints allows for a reduction in swelling. Overview If you have been diagnosed with or think that you might have arthritis, you should schedule an appointment with a chiropractor today. They will help design a treatment plan that is specifically tailored to your needs. Chiropractors are a beneficial, but often overlooked option for the treatment of your arthritis discomfort. Contact Us Sciatica Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Sciatica Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Sciatica is a condition that affects many people today. It typically manifests as pain in the lower back or buttocks that radiates down to the legs or feet. This pain can be felt in one or both legs and is often difficult to describe. Patients have also found that the pain can change in frequency or intensity ranging from mild to severe and can be debilitating at times. Patients have reported various sensations related to sciatica pain including pins and needles while at other times it may be described as dull, or even like electric shocks. The discomfort that sciatica patients experience often causes them to be willing to try anything to alleviate the condition. Understanding a few things about sciatica may help you decide what is best for you. What Causes Sciatica? Sciatica is understood as a compression of the sciatic nerve. This compression can occur as the sciatic nerve leaves the spinal column and travels down to the legs and there are many possible causes of sciatica that vary in their severity. Subluxations – subluxations occur when the vertebrae in the spine are misaligned. These misalignments can cause restrictions or pressure on different nerves. Subluxations on the sciatic nerve are a common occurrence for many patients. Herniated or bulging discs – The padding or discs between the vertebrae can be damaged or deformed which can create issues with the sciatic nerve resulting in sciatica. Pregnancy – The drastic changes that occur to a woman’s body during pregnancy can create issues along the pelvis and spinal column. Some of these issues may cause a problem with the sciatic nerve. Tumors – A potentially severe issue occurs when a tumor grows in or along the spinal column. One of the first signs of tumor growth in your spine may be a change in sensation that is caused by the tumor placing pressure against your nerves. Your chiropractor can help diagnose the cause of your discomfort and ensure that you get the appropriate treatment. Piriformis syndrome – The sciatic nerve travels underneath the piriformis muscle which can be damaged in slips or falls. If the muscle experiences a strain or tightness, it may affect the ability of the sciatic nerve to function. Cramping or twitching of this muscle can also trigger pain associated with sciatica. Diagnosing Sciatica As you have just read, sciatica can be caused by a wide range of issues. Several concerns may extend beyond your discomfort when considering an appropriate diagnosis. Any time that your nerves are affected, there is a range of potential causes that should be thoroughly investigated in order to receive a proper diagnosis. If your issue isn't properly diagnosed, the subsequent treatment may be ineffective. This could lead to continued pain and frustration on your part. Be sure to work with a licensed chiropractor to receive the best care possible. Using Chiropractic Care to Treat Sciatica If you have worked through a diagnosis with your chiropractor and decided that chiropractic care is the best option for you, then you can begin your treatment plan immediately. You should make sure to ask any questions you may have about your plan and then adjust as needed. Your chiropractor will likely use several different options in the treatment of your sciatica. Ice or Cold Therapy – These methods use temperature cooling to reduce any inflammation that may be contributing to your sciatica. Ultrasound – Ultrasound produces radio waves that result in a gentle massaging sensation. This helps to stimulate the muscles and nerves in order to reduce your sciatica pain. Electrotherapy – This therapy uses gentle electric pulses to stimulate and heal the muscles around the joints. Spinal Manipulation – Your chiropractor may also help to align the vertebrae in your spine to relieve pinching or pressure on the sciatic nerve. You may experience some cracking in the spine as the chiropractor releases gases from the spinal column and reduces overall pressure. Overview If you are experiencing sciatica pain, your first step should be to meet with a licensed chiropractor to receive the proper diagnosis and personalized treatment plan. You should leave with a better understanding of what type of results you should expect and how long your treatment will last. Chiropractic care for your sciatica offers some of the safest and simplest treatments possible to produce the most significant positive outcomes for you and your health. Contact Us Joint Pain Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Joint Pain Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Joint Pain: How Chiropractic Care Can Relieve Your Discomfort Joints are important musculoskeletal structures that connect bones to one another. Some facilitate different types of movement while others remain fixed. Joint pain is a very common and often debilitating problem with around one-third of all adults experiencing it at some point during their lifetime. Fortunately, there are treatments that can help and one of the most effective is chiropractic care. Here’s what you need to know about joint pain and how chiropractic care can help relieve discomfort. Causes Of Joint Pain There are many different things that can cause joint pain. The most common is a condition called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective cartilage that usually protects the ends of bones begins to deteriorate, causing them to rub against one another. This friction causes pain, swelling, and problems moving the joint. Other potential causes of joint pain include but are not limited to: Gout Bursitis Inflammation of the joint lining Damage to the cartilage at the back of the kneecap Bleeding into the joint space A fracture to the bones of the joint Other types of arthritis such as rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis Your chiropractor will be able to assess your condition to determine the cause of your joint pain and recommend chiropractic techniques to help ease your discomfort. Symptoms And Signs Associated With Joint Pain Joint pain is just one of the symptoms that you might experience due to the underlying cause of your discomfort. Some of the others can include: Other potential causes of joint pain include but are not limited to: Joint stiffness Joint warmth Limping Loss of range of motion in the joint Weakness Chiropractic Care And Joint Pain Chiropractic treatment is a popular alternative to conventional medicine when it comes to treating the many causes of joint pain. It can also be used alongside medications and other conventional treatments. Chiropractic care focuses on eliminating misalignments in the spine and joints so that there is less pressure on the spinal cord and central nervous system. This allows all bodily systems to function optimally and boost circulation, enabling blood and nutrients to be delivered to the areas of the body that require healing. A reduction in inflammation helps to counteract spinal and joint motion problems, easing movement and reducing the pain that you might be experiencing, without the need for pain medications. Chiropractors can also help address other factors that could be contributing to your joint pain, such as poor posture or sleep position, or not warming up or cooling down properly when exercising. Chiropractic treatment plans are personalized and tailored to the needs of each individual. This means that the precise techniques used, frequency of appointments, and overall the care you are given will vary depending on the extent of your joint problem. Contact Us Headaches Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Headaches Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment A headache is a very generalized term given to pain that is felt in the head or sometimes the neck. There are many different types of pain associated with headaches ranging from acute localized discomfort to a more generalized ache. Some headaches may appear suddenly and only last for a short period of time while others may build gradually and last for several hours. Types of headaches While researchers have identified more than 150 different types of headaches, some are more common than others. These include: Tension headaches By far the most common type of headache is a tension headache, which is usually attributed to stress. They tend to come and go and cause mild to moderate pain with no other symptoms. Migraines Migraines are often considered to be more painful than a tension headache. They last longer ranging anywhere from a few hours to a few days and are usually accompanied by other symptoms such as sensitivity to light, smells, or sound, nausea and vomiting, blurred vision, and loss of appetite. Some people suffer from recurrent migraines and may experience multiple episodes in a short period of time. Cluster headaches Cluster headaches tend to occur in groups and even though no one is sure why are more common in men than women. The pain associated with a cluster headache tends to be a burning or piercing sensation that is localized behind or around one eye. It can also be so severe that the patient can’t function properly until the pain eases. Sinus headaches Sinus headaches tend to occur when one has a cold or sinus infection. With a sinus headache, the pain is felt in your cheekbones, forehead, or bridge of your nose where the sinuses are located since it is caused by the swelling of your sinuses. The pain usually decreases after taking anti-inflammatory pain medication. There is a range of things that you can do to help with one-off headaches, such as taking pain medications, drinking plenty of water, and trying to relax somewhere calm and quiet. However, if you suffer from recurrent headaches, you may want to consider seeking chiropractic care, which has been shown to be very successful in providing relief and even helping prevent this type of pain. How can chiropractic treatment help with my headaches? Research has shown that spinal manipulation, which is the primary treatment provided by chiropractors, can be a highly effective treatment for tension headaches and those that either originate in or are affected by the neck. A spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustment involves your practitioner performing a high velocity, sudden arm thrust to an area of your spine with the purpose of relieving pressure on the joint and surrounding nerves. In doing so, the tension that is contributing to your headache may be alleviated. Chiropractors undergo extensive training that enables them to offer supplementary advice as to how the patient can continue their recovery and potentially prevent future headaches. This may include recommendations about diet, exercise, vitamins, physical therapy exercises, and relaxation techniques. If you experience regular headaches and conventional treatments are not providing you with sufficient relief, you may be a good candidate for chiropractic care. Without early intervention and treatment, shoulder pain can prevent you from routine activities like playing with the kids, doing yard work, or cleaning. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic in San Jose, California, Jay Ebadat, DC, treats shoulder pain using holistic, conservative measures. To schedule an appointment, book a consultation online, or call the office today. Shoulder Pain Q&A What is shoulder pain? Shoulder pain refers to any stiffness, aching, or general discomfort that affects one (or both) shoulder joints. The shoulder is the most flexible joint in your entire body. It consists of three bones –– the clavicle, scapula, and humerus. A supportive layer of cartilage surrounds these bones, acting as a cushion. Four tendons, known as rotator cuffs, allow your shoulder to move up, down, forward, and backward. What are some common causes of shoulder pain? Though your shoulders are incredibly tough, they aren’t invincible. Manual labor, repetitive movements, and playing sports can all contribute to shoulder problems. The leading cause of shoulder pain is rotator cuff tendinitis. This overuse injury occurs due to swollen tendons. Other ailments that may cause shoulder pain include: Frozen shoulder Bursitis Bone spurs Pinched nerves Dislocated shoulder Spinal cord injuries Torn rotator cuff You might also experience shoulder pain if you’re living with a chronic musculoskeletal condition like arthritis. How is shoulder pain diagnosed? At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic, Dr. Ebadat diagnoses shoulder pain by reviewing your health history and conducting a comprehensive physical exam. During the exam, Dr. Ebadat gently presses on your shoulder looking for areas of swelling or tenderness. He also has you perform range-of-motion exercises to test your shoulder’s strength and joint stability. If these measures don’t provide enough insight into the cause of your shoulder pain, he orders imaging tests, like X-rays or ultrasound. These measures provide detailed pictures of your shoulder joint which can assist in diagnosis. Lastly, Dr. Ebadat asks a series of questions about your symptoms, including whether the pain affects one shoulder or both; if the pain keeps you up at night; and if the pain is sharp or a dull ache. Answer these questions honestly, as your responses help guide treatment. How is shoulder pain treated? Whenever possible, Dr. Ebadat recommends conservative, holistic treatments to manage shoulder pain. Early on, he usually suggests healthy lifestyle changes, such as rest, ice, compression, and elevation (the RICE protocol). You might also benefit from light stretching or at-home exercises to strengthen your shoulder joint. If your shoulder pain persists or gets worse, Dr. Ebadat might recommend: Cold laser therapy Kinesio taping Rehabilitation exercise Neck decompression Ergonomics training Ultimately, the goal of treatment is to ease pain, improve mobility, and encourage your body’s natural healing process. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, you might benefit from one type of treatment or a combination of several. Don’t let shoulder pain keep you from participating in your favorite activities. Contact Us Fibromyalgia Treatment in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Fibromyalgia Treatment Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment Fibromyalgia diagnoses have been increasing as awareness has risen. Many individuals now feel that they can seek help from the medical field for their issues, although treatments are generally more difficult to understand. Many people who have fibromyalgia also complain about the lack of effectiveness that many treatment options offer. However, chiropractic care has become an increasingly common and successful treatment option for patients with the disease. Understanding Fibromyalgia Fibromyalgia is a disorder that is characterized by a laundry list of signs and symptoms. These symptoms include: Widespread musculoskeletal pain Weakness Fatigue Sleep loss Memory issues Mood changes While the cause is still being investigated, researchers believe that the disorder amplifies pain signals that are sent to the brain. This means that the normal pain sensation of a pinprick to the finger can instead feel like a searing stab wound. While fibromyalgia is most commonly diagnosed in women, individuals that suffer from headaches, TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder), anxiety, depression, or irritable bowel syndrome are more likely to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia. The disease is also commonly linked to another traumatic injury or surgery. Symptoms may appear instantaneously or gradually increase in severity. As fibromyalgia research continues, we can expect to see more definitive answers to our questions. Currently, researchers believe that the disorder may be caused by genetics, past infections, physical trauma, or a combination of the three. Treatment Options Medications – A suite of medications may be an option for patients. These medications can include pain relievers, anti-depressants, and anti-seizure medications. Pain medications can help to reduce the pain experienced due to fibromyalgia and can offer some comfort. Anti-depressants have been used to help treat or lessen the effects of the disorder on fatigue and sleep habits. Anti-seizure medications help reduce the overall impact of fibromyalgia, and some have been approved by the Food and Drug Administration specifically for the treatment of fibromyalgia. However, many medications contain serious side effects and should be used with caution under the direction of medical professionals. Counseling – While counseling may not directly reduce the effects of fibromyalgia, it can be helpful for patients to talk with a professional about some of the issues that they are facing. Therapy can be beneficial in teaching patients how to cope with the effects of the disorder and strategize effective solutions in dealing with future difficulties. Chiropractic – Several modern studies have reviewed the effects that chiropractic care and adjustments offer to individuals that are suffering from fibromyalgia. The results suggest that chiropractic isn’t just helpful, but that it is “Quite Effective.” Another study indicated that patients saw significant improvement in their sleep, fatigue levels, and the amount of pain they experienced after just 15 adjustments. It’s not a tough decision for many health-conscious patients to decide to make chiropractic care a critical component of their overall treatment plan. The potential adverse effects that medications pose can help to make that decision even easier. As medications that contain addictive chemicals such as opioids are more prominent in the news, many physicians are also more likely to suggest non-addictive treatment options. Unfortunately, fibromyalgia does not have any known cures. This means that your potential treatment options may need to be considered as long-term options to contribute to an overall improvement in the quality of your life. Overview Many people who are diagnosed with fibromyalgia are faced with numerous difficult decisions when it comes to their treatment. The pain can be debilitating, but the addictive nature of many pain medications can leave people feeling scared and helpless and with no known cures, it may feel challenging to face the future. Chiropractic care offers a safe and effective treatment option that can be continued throughout your treatment. If you are considering chiropractic care as a part of your treatment plan for fibromyalgia, please call and schedule an appointment with a chiropractor today to see what they can offer to help alleviate your pain and discomfort. Contact Us Spinal Decompression Therapy in San Jose Top-Rated San Jose Spinal Decompression Therapy Clinic (408) 642-6060 Schedule An Appointment If you regularly experience back pain due to a herniated disc or another disc injury, consider spinal decompression. This non-surgical treatment technique can relieve discomfort, allowing you to return to work, exercise, and other routine activities. At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic in San Jose, California, Jay Ebadat, DC, offers spinal decompression therapy on-site as an outpatient procedure. To schedule an appointment, call the office or book a consultation online today. Spinal Decompression Q&A What is spinal decompression? Spinal decompression is a non-surgical treatment used to relieve back pain. It works by gently stretching your spine and gradually realigning your vertebrae. This stretching takes the pressure off your spinal disks –– soft, gel-like cushions –– that pad and support your vertebrae. By removing the excess pressure, spinal decompression allows your bulging or herniated discs to retract, preventing the discs from rubbing up against your nerves –– easing discomfort, and improving your mobility. Spinal decompression promotes the flow of oxygen, nutrients, and water to your spine. When combined, these factors allow your discs to heal. What conditions can benefit from spinal decompression? At South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic, Dr. Ebadat uses spinal decompression to treat various musculoskeletal problems, including: Disc injuries Back pain Neck pain Sciatica Work spinal joints Bulging or herniated discs You might also benefit from spinal decompression if you have injured or diseased spinal nerve roots. How does spinal decompression work? Spinal decompression is a quick, outpatient procedure. On the day of your appointment, Dr. Ebadat puts a harness around the trunk of your body and another around your pelvis. He adjusts each harness and asks you to lie face down or face-up on a table. The table connects to a computer-controlled device. Once you’re comfortable, Dr. Ebadat operates the computer, adjusting decompression treatment to your individual needs. The table changes position throughout treatment, stretching your spine and realigning your vertebrae. Most spinal decompression appointments last 30-45 minutes. How many spinal decompression appointments will I need? The number of spinal decompression you’ll need depends on the severity of your symptoms and the underlying cause. Dr. Ebadat typically recommends a series of 20-28 appointments spread out over 5-7 weeks. Though this might seem like a major commitment, the results are long-lasting. Make sure to attend each appointment and follow Dr. Ebadat’s recovery instructions carefully. Is spinal decompression safe? Spinal decompression is safe and usually well-tolerated, but it’s not for everyone. If you have any of the following conditions, make sure to let Dr. Ebadat know: Fracture Tumor Advanced osteoporosis Metal implants in the spine These issues may not benefit from spinal decompression, but with prompt diagnosis and treatment, it’s possible to prevent them from getting worse. To see if you’re a candidate for spinal decompression, schedule an appointment at South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic. Call the office or book a consultation online today. Spinal Decompression Therapy From Your Chiropractor In San Jose, CA When it comes to discomfort, the main four conditions that interfere with normal daily activities are back pain, neck pain, sciatica, and neuropathy. If pain is impacting your life, relief is possible with natural chiropractic treatment options that avoid surgery and prescription medicine. Spinal decompression performed by our chiropractor has helped many patients who visit South Bay Wellness Center & Chiropractic recover from a wide range of conditions. Our clinic is convenient for San Jose, Campbell, Cupertino, and Santa Clara residents. Overview of Spinal Decompression Spinal decompression is available as both a surgical and non-surgical therapy. Chiropractic services use only non-surgical decompression, and it helps treat problems like: Leg pain Back pain Injuries to spinal discs Sciatica Nerve injury Disc herniation Decompression therapy also relieves pressure on nerves and other spinal components. It utilizes an adjustable motorized table to alternatively stretch and relax the spine to encourage self-healing. How This Chiropractic Treatment Works During your consultation, our chiropractor will perform a physical examination, assess your symptoms and complaints, review your health history, and order any helpful testing. Dr. Ebadat will then create a customized chiropractic treatment plan only after determining the cause of discomfort. Our San Jose practice utilizes the Eurotech DOC system for spinal decompression therapy. It is an FDA-approved, computerized method that our chiropractor uses to direct movement of the table. This technology allows our doctor to target specific areas of your body where issues have arisen. This procedure precisely yet gently decompresses the spine. You will experience traction alternating with relaxation as the table moves. Decompression therapy creates a negative pressure inside a spinal disc, causing bulging material to return to its proper position within the shell of the disc. It also allows us to localize your treatment to help relieve pain and speed healing.
