The site contains exciting discoveries including a Great Kiva, solar calendar, 50-60 room pueblo remains, and an ancient staircase that, when ascended, takes you up on the rim of a shield  volcano that created the lava flow the site is located on. Labeled the 'fissure pueblo' by Frank Hamilton Cushing in 1883, it has numerous means of tracking the sun, and is truly a remarkable site for its time.  The site became a National Historic Landmark in 1964. The park can only be visited by guided tour.  Tours originate from the beautiful Heritage Museum located in the historic School building at 418 E  Main Street in Springerville, AZ. Guests should call ahead for reservations when possible and should  arrive 30 minutes prior to their tour time. (Tours are subject to weather conditions.) This tour is a moderate HIKE. Proper sun protective clothing should be worn as well as sunscreen. Please wear proper shoes as the hike path is rocky. Please bring water with you. A licensed general contractor may have to oversee the project, and additional subcontractors may be required for electrical, plumbing, or HVAC installations. It is the homeowner or property owner’s responsibility to provide acceptable plans or information to obtain a permit for:  All new residential buildings.  Electrical reconnections, service increases, panel replacement or repair.  Water heater installation (including replacements).  Gas line pressure tests (new or replacement lines). Furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, or evaporative coolers (new only). Note: load and sizing calculations are required for new and replacement HVAC equipment.  Walls and fences. Note: walls and fences over 6-feet tall will require a structurally engineered design.  Metal, and some pre-assembled buildings, require stamped engineered plans.  Detached accessory structures.  Porches, additions, or garages.  Remodeling existing structures, that include plumbing, electrical, foundation, or structural changes.  Demolishing existing structures.  The building department will review plans or applications submitted, but the department cannot design the plans for an applicant. If an applicant needs assistance in designing a plan, they will need to contact a design professional. Please note that all plans submitted will need to conform to the current Town building code. For property development standards please contact the Planning and Zoning Department.  Rental units are considered commercial property, and all commercial permits will require a commercial licensed contractor.  WORK THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN COMPLETED WITHOUT A PERMIT It is possible to obtain a permit for work that has already occurred; however the permit application requirements will remain the same. Depending on circumstances, and according to Town Code, the applicant may also be charged double the original permit fee for doing the work without first obtaining a building permit.  BUILDING SAFETY: CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION  Below is a link to a document which contains the building safety standards for the Town including requirements for snow loads, frost depth, and wind speeds.  Building Safety-Climate & Geographic .pdf   NOTICE By participating in any correspondence, telephone conversation, discussion, meeting, or any other communication with a Town of Springerville employee, you agree and acknowledge that: (1) any information provided in a format other than written determination by the designated Zoning Administrator is preliminary in nature and shall not be relied upon for any purpose by the recipient or any other person or entity; (2) any information provided by a Town employee is not the equivalent of a title report or a real estate survey; (3) you are responsible for independently researching and verifying the information; (4) a Town employee is not authorized to bind the Town in any manner, except by formal Zoning Administrator determination; and (5) any error, omission, incorrect information, or false information provided by a Town employee shall not give rise to  any liability on behalf of the Town of Springerville.  PERMIT APPLICATIONS  REVIEW PROCEDURE:  The building department shall have ten (10) working days from submission of the plan to application to approve, conditionally approve, or deny said plan or application based on its compliance., and to notify of the decision either verbally or in writing. Message From The Director I have been a part of the Round Valley Community since 2003, when my husband and I transferred here from the Grand Canyon. We lived at the Grand Canyon for four years after moving from Ajo and prior to that, while in the Air Force, we lived in Italy for four years and Las Vegas, NV for two. We’ve had great experiences and love to learn about other cultures however, being born and raised in Flagstaff, I was happy to settle back in Arizona. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this community and particularly to have raised my two children in this place that I love. I have worked in Grant and Program Management since 1997 for not only city and county government but for a non-profit organization as well. The Community Services Department encompasses two divisions—the Round Valley Senior Center Division and the Crisis & Utilities Services Division. The Senior Center is a great place to enjoy the company of other seniors your age or to get assistance when you need a helping hand. We offer a variety of services. Not only are meals available, but there are also opportunities for exercising, education, training, volunteer service, and education. The Crisis & Utilities Assistance Division offers support services for people in poverty. Overall, our community has a very high rate of poverty. We serve many residents who are faced with the lack of food, the threat of homelessness or the inability to adequately heat their homes.  We offer a drive-through food bank on Tuesdays and typically provide over 100 boxes of food to residents each week.  Participating in the programs offered at the Round Valley Community Services & Senior Center will be sure to improve your well-being. I look forward to meeting you! Robin R Aguero Community Services Director Senior Programs The Round Valley Senior Center is a lifeline for hundreds of senior citizens through the Round Valley area. We offer hot, nutritious meals in our dining room as well as meals on wheels for area seniors who are homebound. In addition to serving over 10,000 meals each year, we also provide transportation, education, social activities, grief and loss seminars, and a host of other events. Socials and activities include holiday celebrations, sing-a-longs, exercise programs, bingo, and other day trips. Free tax assistance for seniors and low-income households is also offered starting in February through April 15th. We also receive many requests each year for help with the purchase of eye exams, eye glasses, and hearing aids. Below are examples of the senior services offered for those age 60 and older and/or spouses of seniors age 60 and above. Congregate Meals. A hot, delicious meal containing 1/3 of the recommended daily nutritional allowance is provided every Monday through Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Although there is no fixed fee for the meals, participants are given the opportunity to donate. Meals on Wheels. Approximately 60% of our participants receive home delivered meals. These meals are only available to those who are unable to come into the dining room for their meals. A lunch meal is provided 5 days per week. Socialization with other participants is just as important as nutrition at the center. Monthly socials and activities such as pot lucks, sing-a-longs, exercise, games, and day trips are planned. Food Boxes.  To help alleviate the stress of hunger, the senior center collaborates with the USDA to provide food items for low-income seniors through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).  The food provided includes nutritious nonperishable food items such as cereals, juices, canned fruits and vegetables as well as meats, grains, shelf stable or evaporated milk and fresh cheese.  Qualifying seniors must be at least 60 years of age and fall within specific income guidelines.   (Click Here) https://www.firstfoodbank.org/commodity-supplemental-food-program-csfp/ Transportation. This service is available for seniors who have no transportation.
