Parents should take the recommendation form from our admissions packet to their child’s preschool or school to be completed by their current teacher. SCREENING AND EVALUATION KINDERGARTEN Applicants for Kindergarten must be five years old by September 1. In the spring, members of the Saint Raphael faculty will screen each kindergarten applicant on an individual basis. The screening process takes approximately thirty minutes and is stress free. It provides us with an opportunity to meet your child and to determine their readiness for our Kindergarten program. Please note: While our screening process is important, it only provides us with a "snapshot" of your child’s capabilities on a given day. For this reason, we ask for your child’s preschool teacher to provide us with a recommendation for your child. This allows us to have a more comprehensive evaluation, which will allow us to have a better understanding of your child’s needs. GRADES 1-8 The teacher of their incoming grade level will evaluate applicants for grades one through eight. The evaluation process includes grade level appropriate testing in Language Arts and Mathematics. Previous standardized tests, report cards, and a recommendation from your child’s current teacher are required. All of this information will be evaluated, allowing us to have a better understanding of your child’s needs and to determine his or her ability to work on a level that is on a par with Saint Raphael students. The Saint Raphael School offers financial aid to students based on a proven need and available funding. Financial Aid forms are available in the school office. In order to complete a financial aid application the family must bring the completed forms accompanied by all pages of your most current Federal Income Tax Return (including all schedules). All financial aid must be applied for each year. When a family applies to TADS they are automatically considered for two scholarships from the San Francisco Archdiocese, the Archdiocesan Family Grants Program and Saint Raphael Adopt-A-Student (AAS) Scholarship. The Tuition Reduction Committee determines the distribution of Saint Raphael Adopt-A-Student (AAS) Scholarship funds. They make decisions according to guidelines developed by the Parish and the School Advisory Board. Applicants must have applied for both the Basic Fund (or The Guardsmen Scholarship) and the Archdiocese of San Francisco Family Grant Program. Students receive daily religious instruction and our Catholic identity and mission are integrated into every aspect of our curriculum and student life. Spirituality at Saint Raphael School is practiced throughout each and every school day. Students begin the day with morning prayer as a whole school and pray throughout the day with their classes Students attend Mass every week and the entire school attends Mass and prayer services monthly throughout the school year. Students help to plan the school masses and prayer services. They perform different ministries for the masses and prayer services by serving as lectors, choir members, musicians, providing hospitality, contributing to the environment, and more. Living the Gospel and acting as Jesus' disciples is demonstrated throughout the campus by students, staff and families SACRAMENTS Second graders prepare for and receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Eighth graders prepare for and receive Confirmation. The sacrament of Baptism is available for those students desiring it. SERVICE AND JUSTICE PROJECTS Saint Raphael School students participate in acts of service and justice as concrete ways of living out the Catholic faith. Some examples include the annual Walk for the Poor, working with the parish Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, after school homework helpers, and more. In addition, all middle school students are required to complete a set number of service hours each year, in which they participate in various projects both on and off campus to help within the community. At Saint Raphael School we believe: The gospel message of Jesus develops a school community of love, peace, respect, and service to others. Our learning environment stimulates intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, creativity and pursuit of knowledge. Teachers, as catechists and mentors, inspire lifelong love of learning. Parents are the primary educators of their children and that they unite with the school in an active partnership. Health is also critical to the overall emotional and physical development of the whole child. We affirm that Catholic education encompasses the whole human person: the spiritual, intellectual, cultural, psychological, physical and social aspects. To help foster the growth of the whole child and to lovingly encourage each child's unique gifts from God, to enable each child to recognize the need to pursue lifelong learning and to appreciate diligence of effort, and to help that child love who God made them to be, is the goal of Saint Raphael School. Classrooms are equipped with short-throw interactive projectors, document cameras, and other technology supports. GSuite (Google Apps) Google Apps are used at Saint Raphael School to provide opportunities for students to collaborate, clarify their understanding, and communicate with their teachers. Students regularly use Google Classroom as well as Google Docs Sheets, and Slides to help empower their learning while gaining the technology skills necessary to be successful in today’s world. Device Access Students have 1:1 access to iPads in Kindergarten and 1st grade and Chromebooks in grades 2-8. Access to these devices allows teachers to seamlessly integrate technology into all aspects of their classroom and to differentiate for individual student needs. Curriculum Programs Classes have access to a variety of curriculum programs specifically designed to meet individual academic needs. Some of these include Accelerated Reader, IXL, Lexia Core5 Reading, Raz-Kids, and Mathletics. Teachers are continuously learning about new websites, apps, and technology tools to help students’ succeed in their classrooms. Kid Possible Program Saint Raphael School offers a technology curriculum to students in K-8th grades. Let us thank all those who teach in Catholic schools. Educating is an act of love; it is like giving life. ~Pope Francis Dear Friends of Saint Raphael School, Educating is an act of love. The pandemic had affected our children in ways that we did not expect. As a result, our teachers were called upon to motivate, console, inspire, listen, and pray all while teaching a challenging curriculum to students who had forgotten study skills and social interactions. They were called to educate with love. This past year it was so evident that the children needed the spiritual support of an education in a Catholic school. The pandemic created such anxiety in children and called them to learn in the uncertainty of what would happen next. Our teachers responded with one eye on the social and emotional health of their students while forging ahead with lessons. The teachers taught, and listened, and educated with love. It is our faith that grounds us when the world around us is in upheaval. And that is the most important message we can give our children as we provide a challenging Catholic education. Our students have done well in writing contests, county speech competitions, and art presentations. Parishioners and friends have generously responded to our tuition needs in the past, not only with funds but with prayers. You helped us to financially and spiritually weather the storm of the pandemic. You also help us continue to provide a stable environment where our children can feel safe in God’s presence, learn to work to their academic potential, and practice Christ’s call to love and serve others. We again ask you to help us to continue the work of Saint Raphael School by contributing to the Adopt-a-Student Program. We trust that God will continue to bless the work that we do at Saint Raphael School. We ask God to bless our teachers who taught with life-giving love during a year with many challenges. The brochure below details the Adopt-a-Student Program. If you have any questions about Adopt-a-Student or Saint Raphael School, please contact me at (415) 454-4455 or

Saint Raphael School is excited to present the Veritas vision; a vision that helps students identify and develop the unique strengths that God has given them, so that they can build self-confidence and pursue their highest level of academic success. Veritas means "truth" and it focuses on filling the hearts of our children with the self-confidence needed to succeed by realizing their true potential. The "truth" is that God has called us to do great things with our lives and with the gifts He has given us. Veritas is building a culture of excellence at school and at home. It is instilling in students the expectation that they will always try to do their best and take pride in their work. As part of the Veritas program, St. Raphael teachers explicitly teach and cultivate five 21st century IACCT skills: Innovation, Adaptability, Critical Thinking, Cross-cultural communication, and Teamwork.
