Santa Clara & Sunnyvale Hi, I'm Dr. Reham AlNajjar DDS, MSD Board Certified Pediatric Dentist Dr. Reham AlNajjar (Dr. Reham) is a board-certified pediatric dentist with a dedicated focus on serving children, including those with special needs. She began her dental career in Amman, Jordan, earning her first Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 2011. After relocating to the United States, she pursued her second DDS at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry, graduating in 2016. During her time at VCU, Reham's passion for pediatric dentistry flourished through her volunteer work with initiatives such as Give Kids a Smile Day and Mission of Mercy (MoM) projects. She also participated in mission trips and contributed to the Special Olympics, driven by her commitment to improving children's oral health and accessibility to care. Inspired to make a difference, she completed her Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) and pediatric dentistry specialty certification at VCU in 2019. Reham practiced in Virginia for five years, where she was honored as one of Virginia Living’s Top Dentists in 2021. As a diplomate of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, she exemplifies her dedication to the highest standards of care in her field. Recently, Reham moved back to California to be closer to her family. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys photography, traveling, hiking, camping, rock climbing, exploring new coffee places, and spending quality time with her loved ones. Pediatric dentists complete 2 or 3 years of additional specialized training (after the required four years of dental school) to prepare them for treating a wide variety of children's dental problems. Pediatric Dentists are also trained and qualified to care for patients with medical, physical or mental disabilities. Unlike a general dentist or a Children's Dentist, pediatric dentist have extensive experience in sedation dentistry (treating your child when he/she is minimally sedated or completely sleeping). At Silicon Valley Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, all of our Pediatric Dentists have gone through rigorous academic and clinical training in all aspects of pediatric dentistry. All doctors are well-versed in pediatric general anesthesia training and pediatric dental medicine. A doctor can only call himself/herself a "Pediatric Dentist" if they graduated from an accredited Pediatric Dental Residency. A "Children's Dentist" is not the same as a "Pediatric Dentist". "Children's Dentists" are self-proclaimed general dentists that have not completed advanced specialized training after dental school to deal with the unique needs of children. "Children's Dentists" are general dentists that limit their practice to seeing children. Drs. Sona Gill, Nancy Li, Raj Lotwala, and Scot Ngai are a Board-Certified Diplomats. They received the highest honor bestowed by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Recipients of this designation are carefully chosen. In fact, only 38% of pediatric dentists receive this recognition. When you choose a board-certified pediatric dentist, you can have confidence that your child is receiving highest-quality care. Meet our Doctors Frequently asked questions What age should I bring my child to the dentist? The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends establishing a dental home by the age of 1 or no later than 6 months from when the first tooth erupts. Establishing a dental home early will allow you and your child to learn best practices before bad habits are formed. A dental home is also very important in case you have a dental emergency. Parents should know a pediatric dentist that they trust and can rely on when there is a pediatric emergency. Feel free to bring your child to our office for an office tour or to play in our play-yard before their first visit so they can get more comfortable before their actual visit. We're excited that you've decided to make Silicon Valley Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics your child's Dental Home! We want to make your first visit to the pediatric dentist enjoyable and positive. Feel free to bring your child to our office for an office tour or to play in our play-yard before their first visit so they can get more comfortable before their actual visit. What to Expect During Your First Visit If your child is under 4 years of age, we typically do a Knee-Knee-Exam. A Knee-Knee-Exam will allow your child to get acclimated to the dental setting while being in the comforting arms of their care-giver. In this position, the doctor will do an examination, cleaning, and fluoride application. Remember, the goal of the first visit exam is to create a positive experience for your child so that he/she can start to build a positive outlook towards Oral Health. If we think a cleaning will damage the Psyche of a child and cause him/her to remember his/her first visit negatively, we may postpone the cleaning and do it at a future visit. Our kid friendly environment includes cartoon character decals on the walls and each exam and chair has a personalized ceiling mounted TVs for patients to enjoy. ***If you want to visit the office to get a feel of our vibe before scheduling an appointment, please call the office and let us know if you will be dropping by. We encourage families to get to know us to make sure that we are a right fit for you and your child. Superstar Tips for making your child's visit go well. Practice with you child instructing him/her to open their mouth while laying down in the Knee-to-Knee position. (You may try on a pillow with another adult) Inform your child that we will be counting and brushing his/her teeth. Children absorb and hear a lot more than we perceive. Do not refer to the dental visit in a negative manner or as a form of punishment. Please do not say the following lines: "I hated going to the dentist as a child", "The dentist scares me", or "It'll just hurt a little."​ "You better brush your teeth or dentist is going to pull out all your teeth! Most children are unable to do perform this vital and necessary task adequately prior to 7 or 8 years of age. ***General Rule: Caregivers should be brushing or assisting in brushing for children until the child can write in cursive handwriting. At that point, the child has enough control of his/her manual dexterity to brush effectively. Brushing Technique Use a small, soft toothbrush in good condition. Toothbrushes wear out and should be replaced often. Children under the age of 3 should use a rice grain size of fluoride toothpaste. Children above the age of 3 should use a pea size amount of fluoride toothpaste Position your child facing in the same direction as you are. Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to the gums. Using slightly firm pressure, brush in short circles. Brush the outer surfaces,the inside surfaces and the chewing surfaces of all teeth. To clean the chewing surfaces of your teeth, use short sweeping strokes, tipping the bristles into the pits and crevices. To clean the inside surface of the front teeth, position the brush vertically and use the tip of the brush in circular strokes. Super Star Tip Use an egg timer or sing a favorite song while brushing your teeth to get used to brushing for a full 2 minutes for children ages 5 and up. Some electronic toothbrushes have timers that let you know when 2 minutes are up. Flossing It is vitally important to clean germs from between the teeth whenever the teeth are in contact. This is best performed by an adult until children are least 8 or 9 years of age. Flossing helps prevent cavities from occurring in between the teeth, and helps prevent gum disease. Flossing Technique Use about 18 inches of floss. (Don’t try to use too short a piece!) Lay the floss across your open palms. Close your fingers over the floss Turn your palms over and hold the floss with your thumbs and index fingers Rub the floss gently up and down between the teeth, keeping it pressed against one tooth and then the other to clean the teeth on both sides of the point of contact. Be careful not to snap or jerk the floss into the gums. Reposition the floss in your hands to use a clean spot as you go around the mouth. While it may be awkward at first, with practice the process will be easy. Flossing should be done once each and every day. You’ll know you are doing well when the gums do not bleed any longer. Remember, healthy gums do not bleed! Diet and Snacks Healthy food choices can help to reduce many of the diseases that plague modern society, including heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and, of course, tooth decay. Here are some helpful Do’s and Don’ts: Do's Drink water and regular milk Eat non-sugar snack foods, such as cheese, popcorn, raw vegetables, nuts, cottage cheese, or yogurt. Eat lean meats, such as chicken or turkey. Vary your choices. Try more fish, beans, peas, nuts, and seeds. Color your plate with all kinds of great tasting fruits and vegetables. Be sure to read nutrition labels to check for sugars and eliminate foods that have sugar listed as one of the first ingredients. Note that most packaged food is high in sugar and sodium and low in nutrition Dont's Do not drink soft drinks, sports drinks, and sweetened iced teas. Do not drink fruit juices. Limit juices to special occasions and do not keep it in the house. Juice is the number one cause of cavities in school age children. Do not eat high sugar snacks. Do not snack frequetnly. Recommended Products The following products are proven to be of benefit to our child patients and are readily available in local retail stores or, in some cases, from our office. Toothbrushes We recommend any soft, small toothbrush. The bristles must be small to avoid harming the gum tissue, and small to permit access to the back teeth. The Crest and Oral-B brushes are noted for their quality. It is important to have several brushes in use at once, so the brush can dry out between uses. Also, change the brushes every few months. Electric toothbrushes can also work well: SpinBrush electric toothbrush (Crest) is inexpensive and comes in a variety of fun styles for children. Available at local drug stores. Sonicare- the sonic toothbrush (Philips Sonicare) This brush uses ultrasonic vibrations to help remove bacteria from hard to reach areas, expecially for patients with gum disease and those in orthodontic appliances. Recommended for teenagers and up. Dental Floss / Floss Threaders Available at local stores. Note that other brands tend to get stuck between the teeth. For those who have trouble managing dental floss, we suggest these products: Glide Floss Picks (Crest) “Helps make flossing simple.” (800) 645-4337 Interdental Flossups (Longs Wellness) Available at Long’s Drug Stores. Toothpaste The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that all children use a fluoride toothpaste reguardless of age.​ Colgate TOTAL and Crest for Kids (has fluoride) is especially recommended. Fluoridex Prescription toothpaste has 1.1% sodium fluoride and 5% Potassium Nitrate and is recommended for sensitivity relief, orthodontic decalcification, and prevention of decay in patients with a high rate of decay. Available for purchase at our office. Colgate Prevident 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride is recommended for our high caries risk patients. It is a Rx only toothpaste and can be purcahse at our office. Mouth Rinse ACT .05% fluoride anticavity rinse. Recommended for all patients old enough to rinse for 30 seconds and then spit. Available at local drug stores. Listerine antiseptic mouthrinse (Johnson and Johnson) recommended for patients with or at risk for gum disease. Try the Cool Mint or Citrus flavors. Listerine also makes two fluoride rinses: Listerine Smart Rinse .0221% fluoride (for young children) Listerine Total Care (for teenagers and adults). Fluoride Fluoride helps reduce dental decay by strengthening tooth enamel. Fluoride is absorbed into the teeth when present in the mouth. Fluoride toothpaste and mouthrinse are recommended for all patients (and parents, too!) Fluoride foam or varnish is applied as part of our routine cleaning procedures in the office. Some areas of Santa Clara Valley have fluoride in the water. If your area does not have fluoride, your doctor may prescribe additional fluoride drops or tablets as needed. Xylitol Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that has been shown to reduce dental plaque and tooth decay. Exposure to xylitol in very young children and patients with a high level of tooth decay is especially helpful.Five daily doses in various forms are recommended for effective results. Board Certified Pediatric Dentist Dr. Adrienne Nguyen was born and raised in the Bay Area. She spent many of her childhood weekends at her grandfather’s dental practice in the East Bay. She received her undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of the Pacific. Dr. Adrienne continued her education in San Francisco at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry where she completed her doctorate of dental surgery. While in dental school, she volunteered in many community outreach projects such as Project Homeless Connect and CDA cares, providing much needed dental care to patients in need. Dr. Adrienne was fortunate to attend a dental mission trip to Fiji, where access to dental care was incredibly limited. Dr. Adrienne later moved to Boston, Massachusetts to complete her residency in pediatric dentistry. She received extensive training on providing comprehensive care for special needs patients, medically complex patients, and provided extensive treatment to pediatric patients under general anesthesia in a hospital setting. She graduated from Tufts University with her Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, where she served as her program’s chief resident. While in residency, Dr. Adrienne received Dr. Waldemar Brehm Scholarship Award. She was also awarded first place at the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Post-Graduate interdepartmental Research Symposium, where she presented her research on new dental treatment needs in pediatric patients following full mouth dental rehabilitation. Outside of the office, Dr. Adrienne spends her free time with her husband, family, and toddler. She loves going to the farmers’ market on the weekends, trying new recipes, traveling, and tending to her collection of indoor plants. Dr. Adrienne is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Association of Pediatric Dentistry, and California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. To allow us to be efficient on your behalf, we ask that you provide the following information to us prior to your first visit: Name of the insured person (the parent or guardian with the insurance policy) Date of birth and social security number of the insured person (Note: this information is strictly protected for your security. All written documents are shredded when no longer needed) Employer name Insurance group number Insurance company name and phone number Patient’s full legal name Patient’s date of birth Payment is required at the time of the visit It is essential for you to make sure your child is listed on your insurance policy prior to coming for the first visit. Otherwise, you may not be eligible for any insurance benefits for the visit. It is easy to do so by calling the customer service number for your insurance company (NOT the human resources department of your employer). This is a great opportunity for them to be of service to you by explaining your particular plan and your benefits. The amount of coverage varies widely among the different insurance plans. Most insurance plans allow you to freely choose the dentist you care to see. Some plans, though, may try to encourage you to seek care at certain “in-network” offices. While your out-of-pocket costs may be lower, your ability to freely choose a qualified pediatric dentist may be restricted. Even if we are not in your network, we are still able to treat your children and process claims that are paid at the fee schedule of your plan. Your out-of-pocket costs may be higher for an out-of-network provider. Contact customer service at your insurance company for information about your plan. After completing his formal training, Dr. Josh practiced in the Upper East Side of Manhattan for 3 years before deciding to move back to California to be closer to family. Treatment time can vary widely from patient to patient, and your specific treatment time will depend on the severity of your orthodontic condition and the type of treatment you choose. Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years to complete, although most patients undergo treatment for 18-24 months. In order to have a better understanding of your needs, we provide a free consultation where we can address your concerns. We offer free orthodontic consultations for both children and adults! We offer both Traditional Braces or Invisalign ® Clear Aligner Orthodontics Metal /Traditional Braces These are the metal brackets and wires that most people picture when they hear the word "braces." However, modern brackets are smaller and less noticeable than the notorious "metal-mouth" braces that many adults remember. Plus, new heat-activated archwires use your body heat to help teeth move more quickly and less painfully than in the past. Pro's: Least expensive type; colored bands give kids a chance to express themselves Con's: Most noticeable type of braces; patients don’t care for them well Ceramic Braces Ceramic braces are the same size and shape as metal braces, except that they have tooth-colored or clear brackets that blend in to teeth. Some even use tooth-colored wires to be even less noticeable. Pro's: Less noticeable than metal braces Con's: More expensive than metal braces; Brackets can stain easily if patients don’t care for them well Invisalign After an evaluation visit to determine whether a patient is a candidate for Invisalign®, our team will conduct a Record's Appointment where we take digital impressions, radiographs and patients photos. Using these, Invisalign® will use its unique computer imaging system to create a series of Invisalign® clear aligners, which will replace the standard bracket and wires of conventional orthodontics. The first in the series of clear retainers will fit the patient's teeth as they exist at the beginning of treatment. Each successive retainer will exert forces which will move teeth to the position where the next retainer can take over. The patient must wear each removable retainer for approximately two weeks. To be most effective, the clear aligners must be worn at all times – 24 hours a day - except during meals. The number of aligners will vary from patient to patient depending on the severity of the malocclusion. The overall length of treatment generally approximates the time needed for standard orthodontics. 80% of Invisalgn treatment cases can last between 12-24 months. Treatable Case Types Gapped Teeth Gaps between teeth can occur with abnormal continued growth of the jawbone. Missing teeth can also cause the surrounding teeth to shift due to the extra space, creating gaps between teeth can lead to gum problems (due to lack of protection by the teeth), periodontal pockets and increased risk of periodontal disease. Overbite What people commonly refer to as an "overbite" is known to dental professionals as "overjet". It occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. It's typically caused by genetics, bad oral habits, or overdevelopment of the bone that supports the teeth. This can lead to gum problems or irritation, and/or wear on the lower teeth, and can cause painful jaw and joint problems. Underbite Underbite can occur when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. It's usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw, overgrowth of the lower jaw, or both. It can also be caused by missing upper teeth. This can prevent the abnormal function of front teeth or molars, which can lead to tooth wear. It can also cause painful jaw and joint problems. Open Bite Open bite often occurs when some teeth are unable to make physical contact with the opposing teeth for a proper bite. Most often caused by a genetic abnormal jaw structure or excessive thumb-sucking, an open bite can cause poor or painful chewing, and even speech impairment. It can also lead to greater issues like thermo-mandibular joint disorder (TMJ). Overly Crowded Teeth crowding occurs when there is simply a lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, overlay crowded teeth can get worse over time, and result in severely crooked teeth. This crowding can lead to plaque accumulation, tooth decay and an increased chance of gum disease. Crossbite Crossbite can occur when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth, and can happen on both the front and the sides of the mouth. This can cause wear of the teeth, gum disease and bone loss. Itero Scanner provides digital scans of teeth (No more gagging with alginate impression) Common Ortho Cases Anterior Cross Bite Patient presents with anterior crossbite (underbite - upper teeth are positioned behind of lower teeth). Correcting crossbite is urgent and time sensitive. A crossbite needs to be addressed while the patient is actively growing. If orthodontics is started after 10 years of age (slower growth period for maxilla and jaw), surgery may be needed to correct jaw positioning. The patient still has baby teeth that remain, but now both adult and baby teeth are in correct positioned now facilitating normal growth and alignment. Before Before Before After After After Posterior Cross Bite Patient presents with Posterior crossbite (upper back teeth are positioned inside of lower teeth). Correcting crossbite is urgent and time sensitive. A crossbite needs to be addressed while the patient is actively growing. If one attempts to correct a posterior crossbite is started after 10 years of age (slower growth period for the maxilla and jaw), the patient's palatal suture my have fused already and non-ideal result may occur (more tipping of teeth instead of moving teeth and widening of nasal passages). Narrow maxilla and posterior crossbites may result in narrow nasal passages, restricted airway, snoring, mouth breathing, among other various breathing issues. Nitrous Oxide Sedation Conscious sedation. Your child will be awake during the procedure. Nitrous oxide does several things: It serves as an anxiolytic lessening anxiety. It sometimes makes an individual so relaxed that sometimes they start laughing (giving it the name laughing gas). It serves as an analgesic relieving pain. It acts like Tylenol or Ibuprofen dulling our senses to pain. It alters our sensation of time. For example, it can make a 30 minute procedure feel like a 15 minute procedure. This is particularity important since children have short working times where they want to behave and cooperate. Nitrous is clinically proven to help relieve patients from an exaggerated gag reflex. IV General Anesthesia Although most children are cooperative enough to complete their treatment while awake, some children need to be completely sedated to provide safe and effective care to them. The main reason our office would recommend IV General Anesthesia depends on the complexity of a child's treatment needs and the level of cooperativity of that particular child. Safety is our upmost concern. At SVPDO we aim to safely treat every child without physical or emotional trauma. As pediatric dentists, we try our hardest to cultivate a lifetime of trauma-free oral health. If you decide to perform sedation dentistry, a dedicated anesthesiologist would sedate your child your dentists performs dental care on your child. During the IV General Anesthesia procedure, a dedicated anesthesiologist will sedate your child. The pediatric dentist will perform the dental treatment on your child. During every IV General Anesthesia case, there will be two doctors (Anesthesiologist and Pediatric Dentist) in the room with extensive anesthesia and pediatric medicine experience along with a pediatric registered dental assistant caring for your child while he/she is sleeping. It is the Pediatric Dentist's advanced training in Pediatric Medicine and Pediatric Anesthesia to safely perform conscious and deep sedation that differentiates him/her from a general dentist or a "Children's Dentist". After earning his M.D. from UCD, he conducted his residency at UCSF. With over 22 years of experience as a licensed oral & maxillofacial surgeon and physician, Dr. Tieu aspires to model a professional workplace that prioritizes both patients and healthcare professionals. His commitment to providing the highest quality of care is reflected in his continued attendance at education conferences. Dr. Tieu’s expertise spans a variety of specialized dental care, including dental implants, dental extractions, evaluation and removal of wisdom teeth (third molars), corrective jaw surgery, oral medicine, and more. Please let us know if you are concerned with radiographic exposure and would like us to take less radiographs. Additionally, we offer digital radiographs. Digital X-rays reduce radiation exposure 4 times compared to conventional analog radiographs. We realize that taking X-rays can be difficult for some people (especially our little ones) so we are one of the only pediatric dental offices to offer both Intra-oral and Extra-oral X-rays. Additionally they offer a lot more imaging than conventional radiographs at reduced radiation. Figure 2 Look at this missing tooth we were able to find with our unique Extra-oral X-Rays that have less radiation then conventional analog radiographs. How We Take Our Radiographs Traditional Intra-oral X-rays can be used on small and large kids alike. (Figure 1). Demonstrated by Dr. Scotty... the biggest kid of all 🙂 With Extra-oral X-rays , nothing goes into the mouth and look at the great image we are able to get (Figure 2). They are applied to the pits and fissures of our adult permanent molar teeth. The purpose of a sealant is to prevent decay. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, "Pit and fissure sealants account for 80-90% of all caries in permanent posterior teeth and 44% in primary teeth. Placement of sealants have shown a reduction of caries incidence of 86% after 1 year. " A sealant is like… Think of your bathroom tiles. In between your tiles you have grout or caulking. The purpose of the grout and caulking is to prevent water from getting underneath your tiles causing mold or mildew. We want to seal out the water and moisture that causes mold! A sealant serves the same function to prevent bacteria and plaque from getting into the pits and grooves of your teeth so cavities do not occur. We want to seal out bacteria that cause decay! He graduated from Bellarmine College Preparatory and the University of California, Davis. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. He received his Master’s Degree from Northwestern University and his Pediatric Dental Certificate from Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Ikehara was fortunate to practice with his Dad, who was also a Pediatric Dentist. It was with great admiration of his Dad that inspired Dr. Ikehara to become a Pediatric Dentist. Cavities should be the least of any child’s worries. Santa Clara & Sunnyvale Hi, I'm Dr. Ariel Tsao! Pediatric Dentistry Dr. Ariel is a South Bay Area native. She attended the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology as well as Economics. She received her dental education at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. During dental school, Dr. Ariel grew weary of chasing cavity after cavity in adults and decided to focus on preventing the problem. To do so, she organized and led multiple outreach programs to raise oral health awareness in the community and among health care professionals. Since healthy oral hygiene routines are most effective when established early, Dr. Ariel devoted herself to working with children. She went on to complete both her residency training in Pediatric Dentistry and her Master of Science degree in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. Upon completion, she received the Raymond Braham Outstanding Clinician Award. As research sheds new light on what affects an individual’s risk for cavities, Dr. Ariel strives to share this nuanced information with families. She is honored to be your child’s dentist and will work with you to develop an individualized plan for decreasing cavities in your child’s teeth. In addition to reading research publications, Dr. Ariel stays abreast of new knowledge by participating in dental organizations. Santa Clara, San Jose, & Sunnyvale Hi, I'm Dr. Scott Ngai ! Board Certified Diplomate Pediatric Dentist Dr. Scott Ngai is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Ngai was born and raised in San Francisco, CA. He attended UC Berkeley and graduated with dual bachelor’s degrees in Molecular and Cell Biology and Public Health. As a student-athlete, he played collegiate lacrosse for Cal for all four years. At UC Berkeley, Dr. Ngai was an Undergraduate Student Instructor for the Health Medical Apprenticeship Program teaching over 500 students per semester, and was a clinical researcher for the Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. After college, Dr. Ngai attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry, where he was an exceptional student receiving straight A’s in his clinical studies. Dr. Ngai also served as the student President of the California Dental Association. Dr. Ngai graduated with High Honors and was awarded Dr. Charles, Charles Jr., and Joe Sweet Award for “Superior Proficiency in the Field of Dentistry for Children” as well as the Hinman Symposium Research Award. He is also a published author for his dental materials research when working for the American Dental Association and National Institute of Health in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Dr. Ngai was able to combine his dentistry skills and his love of working with children by completing a pediatric dental residency at UCLA’s Ronald Reagan Medical Center (US News and Report’s Best Hospital of the West). This program included extensive training in full-mouth dental rehabilitation under general anesthesia, after-hours traumatic emergencies, and providing comprehensive dental care to children and people with special needs. He currently maintains his hospital privileges and is a clinical professor at both University of the Pacific and UCLA’s Ronald Reagan Medical Center, where he teaches dental students and residents. Volunteering and giving back to the community have always been one of Dr. Ngai ’s many passions. In high school, he earned scouting’s highest honor in becoming an Eagle Scout utilizing his leadership skills to lead his scouts in community projects. Dr. Ngai has personally organized and led dental mission trips to Peru, Fiji, and Honduras, where served as the lead doctor to dental students in providing dental treatment to communities that did not have access to dental care. Dr. Ngai continues to give back to the local community as a Rotarian in the Santa Clara Rotary Club. Dr. Ngai is a proud and active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and Santa Clara County Dental Society. Santa Clara, San Jose, & Sunnyvale Hi, I'm Dr. Duy Bui! Board Certified Orthodontist Dr. Bui is from Orange County in California and is excited to come to the Bay Area to practice orthodontics. His interest in orthodontics began when he had braces at the age of 15 and it has never waned since then. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology at the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Bui relocated to northern California to complete his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the University of California, San Francisco. While at UCSF, Dr. Bui explored his passions for leadership, research, and teaching. He served in numerous dental and outreach organizations while also contributing to research on the effects of social determinants on oral health. Dr. Bui left sunny California to brave the harsh winters of Michigan to complete his training in orthodontics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He pursued his passion for education by conducting research on virtual reality teaching methods in dental education. He received extensive training on many different orthodontic treatment modalities including but not limited to, traditional braces, functional appliances, clear aligner therapy, surgical orthodontics, and much more. Dr. Bui is especially interested in the care of cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial anomaly patients. Additionally, Dr. Bui received both the Aldrich scholarship award as well as Rackham Block Grant award during his residency program. Dr. Bui has become a diehard Michigan football fan who bleeds Maize and Blue. GO BLUE! During his free time, Dr. Bui is an avid fan of basketball and tennis. His favorite players are LeBron James and Roger Federer respectively. When he is not out on court you can find him playing video games with his family and friends. He also loves to spend time trying new restaurants and attempting to cook with his fiancée. Dr. Bui is a proud member of the American Association of Orthodontics. Board Certified Orthodontist Dr. Jenn is a native of the Bay Area. She has over a decade of experience as a competitive swimmer. But her pursuits extend far beyond the confines of the swimming pool. Her first orthodontic experience was when she was 9 years old and she has been passionate about orthodontics ever since. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University, Dr. Jenn laid the foundation for a career marked by scientific inquiry and innovation. Her passion for making a tangible impact on people’s lives led her to pursue a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, also at Columbia University. She then moved to the Midwest and pursued a Master of Science in Orthodontics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her time at Michigan helped her delve deep into the intricacies of orthodontics, mastering the art of crafting beautiful smiles and ensuring optimal dental health for her patients. She has received extensive training on several different orthodontic treatment modalities including braces, clear aligner therapy (Invisalign), functional appliances, craniofacial orthodontics, and surgical orthodontics. Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Jenn has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to the field of orthodontics, receiving both the Dr. James A. McNamara Endowed Orthodontic Student Scholarship and the Richard Johnson Endowed Orthodontic Student Fellowship. These accolades serve as a testament to Dr. Jenn’s unwavering dedication and exceptional commitment to her profession. On her free time, Dr. Jenn can often be found in the kitchen, whipping up delectable treats inspired by her favorite show, the beloved “Great British Bake Off.” She also enjoys hiking, exploring new restaurants and bakeries, painting, and traveling. Santa Clara & Sunnyvale Hi, I'm Dr. Angela Lee! Board Certified Pediatric Dentist Dr. Angela Lee is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She grew up in Southern California and studied Biology and Education at the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Angela continued her education at the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, where she graduated amongst the top of her class in the dual Doctor of Dental Medicine and Master of Public Health degree program. Dr. Angela’s academic achievements, leadership activities, and commitment to compassionate and quality patient care led her to be inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Angela has always been passionate about working with children, and individuals with special healthcare needs. She followed her dream to complete a three-year pediatric dentistry specialty program at the University of California, San Francisco, and was selected to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Angela has over a decade of pediatric dental experience providing care for children and adolescents in private practice and community healthcare clinics. She loves building trusted relationships with families and helping patients achieve optimal oral health. She also strongly advocates for public health policies and programs that focus on preventive oral healthcare and is actively involved in the organized pediatric dentistry community. Dr. Angela currently serves as an Associate Editor for the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry and is also a proud member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Santa Clara County Dental Society. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Angela enjoys spending quality time with her husband and two children. She loves exploring the outdoors and creating lasting memories with friends and family. Brushing teeth at home is a team effort! Dr. Angela provided dental care at an orphanage in Cambodia with a team of dentists and dental students.
