On April 26, 2026, more than 250 participants ran, walked, and rolled around Marin Civic Center Lagoon Park in San Rafael to support The Helix School, a place where autistic and neurodivergent students ages 5–22 are seen, supported, and set up to thrive. SUPPORT What was the Paths to Possibility 5K? The inaugural Paths to Possibility 5K Run/Walk/Roll was a community celebration and fundraiser benefiting The Helix School in San Rafael, CA. The event welcomed participants of all abilities — runners, walkers, wheelchair users, and families with young children — for a scenic route around the Marin Civic Center Lagoon Park. With 250+ participants from across the Bay Area and beyond, the event brought together Helix families, alumni, educators, neighbors, and supporters united by a shared belief: that every neurodivergent child deserves an education built around who they are.       What Does It Support? All proceeds benefit The Helix School, an accredited non-public school serving autistic and neurodivergent students ages 5–22 in San Rafael. Helix uses a relationship-based, integrated clinical-academic model — meaning educators and clinicians work side by side to meet each student’s unique needs. Your donation helps fund: Specialized instruction and individualized learning plans On-site clinical support (speech, occupational therapy, and more) Programs that build independence, self-advocacy, and life skills The Helix Adult Academy, launching Fall 2026, for young adults transitioning beyond school You don’t have to cross a finish line to make a difference. DONATE Paths to Possibility 5K • April 26 • Marin Civic Center → INFO Our Story The Helix School was born from one family’s love for their child—and a deep determination to create something better. In 2007, Marjorie McMorris and her husband, Marc received news that would change their lives forever: their youngest son, Kyle, then just two years old, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At the time, they had only a limited understanding of what the diagnosis meant. What quickly became clear, however, was that Kyle experienced and understood the world very differently from his peers.   Like many parents at the start of this journey, Marjorie and Marc immersed themselves in learning. They read extensively, consulted doctors and therapists, and studied research and best practices in autism education. One message was consistent and clear: early, individualized intervention could make a profound difference in a child’s life. As Kyle grew, it became increasingly apparent that the educational options available did not fully reflect what the research—or Kyle himself—were telling them. Programs were often fragmented or rigid, addressing only pieces of a child rather than the whole. Marjorie envisioned something different: a school that recognized how cognitive, language, social-emotional, and sensory-motor systems must work together to support meaningful growth. In 2014, that vision became reality. The Helix School opened with just two students in an office complex in San Rafael. From the beginning, the school was grounded in the belief that every child deserves an individualized program—one that honors their strengths, supports their challenges, and allows them to experience success, self-expression, independence, and belonging. ​ The school grew thoughtfully and intentionally. In 2017, Helix became a certified Nonpublic School (NPS), enabling partnerships with public school districts and expanding access to its specialized model. Today, The Helix School serves nearly 60 students from across the Bay Area. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Kyle, whose journey inspired it all, is now preparing for adulthood with the same care and intentionality that shaped his early years. Marjorie and Marc remain deeply connected to the school they founded. Marjorie continues to guide the school’s vision and serves on the Board of Directors, helping ensure that the values at the heart of Helix remain strong. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ What began with just two students became a thriving community. For many families, The Helix School is a place where they can finally exhale—knowing their child is seen, understood, and supported for who they are. As Kyle and other Helix students approach adulthood, Marjorie is starting The Helix Adult Academy which will launch in Fall of 2026 to ensure that the same individualized, strength-based approach extends beyond age 22. ​ Learn more about The Helix Adult Academy here: Helix Academy A Message from Our Founder When my son Kyle was diagnosed with autism at the age of two, I had no idea how profoundly that moment would shape our family and eventually, a school. Along the way, we realized that what children like Kyle truly need is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but a thoughtful, individualized, and compassionate environment, one that sees the whole child and believes deeply in their potential. I am incredibly proud of the work being done at Helix and honored to remain connected to the school as it evolves and grows. ​ As Kyle and other Helix students approach adulthood, I’m also beginning a new chapter: the launch of The Helix Adult Academy in Fall 2026. DONATE Paths to Possibility 5K • April 26 • Marin Civic Center → INFO Helix Parent Association The Helix Parent Association (HPA) is a network of families, students, teachers and administrators devoted to building a sense of community among parents, teachers, and students. We organize social events, family-oriented activities, and collaborative projects that bring people together. Some of the projects the HPA coordinates include: Parent Buddies, Community Gatherings, Teacher & Staff Appreciation, and Fundraising, such as our walk-a-thon. The co-chairs of HPA for the 2024-2025 year are Bridget Britt and Debbie Moran. Meet The 2024-2025 HPA Co-Chairs Bridget Britt Bridget was co-chair of the HPA last school year 2023-24 and is the parent of a daughter who will be starting Middle School this school year. Bridget's daughter began her journey at Helix halfway through her second grade year and has flourished while at Helix. Bridget also has an 8 year old daughter who will be in the third grade. Bridget is here to support both the Helix parents and the Helix staff. Bridget is happy to connect with parents to answer any questions and provide connection to the Helix community. Debbie Moran Debbie is the parent of a son who started at Helix in 4th grade and is now a Freshman in High School at Helix. She also has a 16 year old daughter who is a Junior at Petaluma High School. Debbie and her husband, along with their children, currently live in Petaluma.
