FAQ How does Invisalign treatment compare to traditional braces? Invisalign orthodontic treatment uses clear aligners that are virtually invisible, offering a more discreet option than traditional metal braces. They can be removed for eating and cleaning, providing more comfort and convenience. How long does it take to see results with Invisalign aligners? Results can typically be seen within a few months, but the full treatment usually takes between 12 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of your case. Are there any dietary restrictions with Invisalign clear aligners? No specific dietary restrictions are required with Invisalign treatment because the aligners are removable. However, it is important to remove the aligners when eating and drink only water while wearing them. How often should I wear my Invisalign aligners? For optimal results, your aligners should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day, only removing them for meals and oral hygiene. Alleviating Discomfort : Bruxism often causes jaw pain, headaches and muscle tension. Night guards help mitigate these symptoms. Benefits of Night Guards Preserved Tooth Health : Night guards protect teeth from damage, preserving their health and function. Improved Sleep Quality : By reducing the noise associated with grinding and alleviating discomfort, night guards can lead to better sleep. Contact us at 562-597-1543 to schedule a consultation and explore the benefits of this essential dental solution. FAQ What are night guards and who might need them? Night guards are custom-made dental appliances worn while sleeping to protect teeth from grinding or clenching. They are commonly recommended for individuals who experience bruxism, jaw pain or have worn-down teeth due to grinding. How do I get fitted for a night guard? To get a night guard, our dentist will take impressions of your teeth to create a custom-fitted appliance. The night guard will be designed to fit comfortably and provide adequate protection against grinding or clenching. Will wearing a night guard affect my sleep? Most people find that wearing a night guard does not significantly affect their sleep. The appliance is designed to be comfortable and unobtrusive. It may take a few nights to get used to, but many patients adjust quickly and find relief from teeth grinding. How should I care for my night guard? To care for your night guard, clean it daily with mild soap and water and store it in a dry, ventilated case. Avoid using harsh chemicals or boiling water, as these can damage the appliance. Regular checkups with our dentist will ensure it remains in good condition. Request An Appointment Ready to take the first step towards a healthier smile? His practice philosophy has been heavily influenced by his grandfather, who was a dentist for 40 years and always followed the Golden Rule: He never recommended dental treatments to patients that he would not believe in recommending for himself, and Dr. Grella upholds this same standard at his practice. Dr. Grella graduated summa cum laude from University of California, Los Angeles, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at the UCLA School of Dentistry. His father was a Navy man, and his grandfather was a Marine, so following in the military tradition of his family, Dr. Grella joined the Navy Dental Corps upon finishing dental school. He went to Officer’s School in Newport, Rhode Island, and then completed a one-year residency at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton. After four years treating Marines in Yuma, Arizona, Dr. Grella resigned from active duty and moved back to Long Beach, California, where he originally met his wife, Taylor, and realized his goal of running a local private practice. They have been married for over 13 years and have a son and daughter. Dr. Grella is dedicated to providing high-integrity dental care and exceptional patient experience. To ensure that his patients receive state-of-the-art care, he regularly pursues continuing education and engages with leaders in the field. He is a member of the American Dental Association® , California Dental Association and Harbor Dental Society . In his free time, Dr. Grella enjoys swimming, cycling, watching movies, going to sporting events and reading. You can also often find him trying the great food and craft beer around the city. Dr. Will Grella emphasizes the importance of these routine visits to ensure that your oral health remains in top condition. The Significance of Dental Cleanings and Exams Dental cleanings and exams serve as preventative measures to address minor issues before they become significant problems. These appointments encompass two essential components: Dental Cleanings Professional dental cleanings performed by skilled dental hygienists are designed to eliminate plaque and tartar build-up that regular brushing and flossing can miss. This helps to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and maintain fresh breath. Dental Exams Comprehensive dental exams conducted by Dr. Grella involve a thorough assessment of your oral health. This includes inspecting for signs of dental issues like cavities, gum disease, oral cancer and malocclusion. Early detection is critical for effective treatment. Benefits of Regular Dental Cleanings and Exams Prevention : Identifying issues in their early stages can prevent more extensive and costly dental problems. Oral Hygiene Education : Dental professionals can provide guidance on maintaining optimal oral hygiene at home. Optimal Oral Health : Regular visits help maintain a clean, healthy mouth and a dazzling smile. Contact us at 562-597-1543 to schedule your next dental cleaning and exam in Long Beach, California. FAQ Why are regular dental cleanings and exams important? Regular dental cleanings and exams are crucial for maintaining oral health. Cleanings remove plaque and tartar that contribute to gum disease and cavities, while exams allow early detection of potential issues, leading to timely treatment and prevention of more serious conditions. How often should I schedule dental cleanings and exams? It is generally recommended to schedule dental cleanings and exams every six months. This frequency helps ensure that any issues are caught early and that your oral health is consistently monitored and maintained. What happens during a dental cleaning? During a dental cleaning, a dental hygienist will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. The cleaning process also includes polishing your teeth and applying fluoride if needed. This helps prevent cavities and maintain gum health. Are there any risks or side effects associated with dental cleanings? Dental cleanings are safe and generally well-tolerated. Some patients might experience minor discomfort or sensitivity, but this is typically temporary. If you have specific concerns or conditions, let your dental team know so they can address them appropriately. Request An Appointment Ready to take the first step towards a healthier smile? Painless Application : The process of applying sealants is non-invasive and painless, making it suitable for patients of all ages, including children. FAQ What types of situations are considered dental emergencies? Dental emergencies include severe toothaches, broken or knocked-out teeth, lost dental restorations and injuries to the mouth or jaw. If you experience severe pain, trauma or sudden changes in your dental health, it is important to seek prompt care. What should I do if I knock out a tooth? If you knock out a tooth, handle it carefully by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with water and try to place it back in the socket. If re-insertion is not possible, store the tooth in milk or a saline solution and seek immediate dental care. How can I manage pain until I can see a dentist? For pain management, you can use over-the-counter pain relievers and apply a cold compress to the affected area. Avoid chewing on the side of the pain and maintain good oral hygiene. Contact our dentist as soon as possible for further evaluation and treatment. Are emergency dental visits more expensive than regular visits? Emergency dental visits may be more expensive due to the immediate nature of the care provided. However, addressing issues promptly can prevent more severe and costly problems later. Check with your dental office about payment options and insurance coverage for emergency care. Request An Appointment Ready to take the first step towards a healthier smile? Sports mouth guards are important in safeguarding your teeth and mouth during physical activities. Understanding Sports Mouth Guards Sports mouth guards, also known as athletic mouth guards, are custom-fitted oral appliances designed to protect the teeth, gums and jaw during sports and physical activities. They act as a cushion to absorb and dissipate the impact forces that can cause dental injuries. The Significance of Sports Mouth Guards Preventing Dental Injuries : Sports mouth guards reduce the risk of dental trauma, including broken teeth, knocked-out teeth and soft tissue injuries. Preserving Oral Health : Wearing a mouth guard helps maintain the integrity of your smile, ensuring you can continue to participate in your chosen sport with confidence. Elevating Performance : A well-fitted mouth guard provides comfort and allows you to focus on your game without worrying about your teeth. Benefits of Sports Mouth Guards Customized Protection : Sports mouth guards are individually tailored to ensure a snug fit and maximum protection. Enhanced Confidence : Wearing a mouth guard provides peace of mind and the confidence to excel in sports. Equip Yourself for Success Do not compromise your oral health when participating in sports. Our dentist, Dr. Will Grella, is here to provide you with a custom-fitted sports mouth guard in Long Beach, California. Contact us at 562-597-1543 to schedule an appointment and take the first step towards protecting your winning smile. FAQ Why should athletes use sports mouth guards? Sports mouth guards protect teeth, gums and jaws from injuries during contact sports. They help prevent chipped or broken teeth, jaw fractures and soft tissue injuries, making them an essential part of athletic safety gear. What types of mouth guards are available for sports? There are three main types of mouth guards: stock, boil-and-bite and custom-fitted. Custom-fitted mouth guards provide the best protection and comfort, as they are tailored to fit your teeth precisely and offer superior impact resistance. How should I care for my sports mouth guard? To care for your sports mouth guard, clean it regularly with mild soap and water and store it in a ventilated case when not in use. Avoid exposing it to high temperatures, as this can warp the material and affect its fit and effectiveness. Can I use my regular mouth guard for all sports activities? While a regular mouth guard may offer some protection, a custom-fitted sports mouth guard is specifically designed to provide optimal protection for athletic activities. It is advisable to use a mouth guard tailored to the specific sport you are participating in for the best results. Request An Appointment Ready to take the first step towards a healthier smile? An inlay fits within the cusps of the tooth, while an onlay covers one or more cusps. Onlays are typically used for more extensive damage. How are dental inlays and onlays applied? The process involves removing the damaged portion of the tooth, taking impressions and placing a temporary restoration. The custom inlay or onlay is then created and bonded to the tooth in a subsequent visit. Are dental inlays and onlays durable? Yes, dental inlays and onlays are durable and can last 10-15 years or more with proper care. They are made from materials such as porcelain or composite resin, which provide strength and a natural appearance. Can I eat normally after getting dental inlays or onlays? Yes, you can eat normally after getting dental inlays or onlays. It is advisable to avoid very hard or sticky foods for a short period after placement to ensure the restoration sets properly. This includes treatments such as dental fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures and dental implants. The goal is to repair damage, replace lost teeth and restore oral health. How do I know if I need restorative dentistry? If you experience symptoms like tooth decay, missing teeth or significant wear and tear on your teeth, restorative dentistry may be needed. At our office, we offer sedation dentistry to ensure a comfortable and stress-free experience for patients with dental phobias. Understanding Sedation Dentistry Sedation dentistry involves the use of medication to help patients relax and remain at ease during dental procedures. This approach is especially valuable for individuals who experience dental anxiety or have complex dental needs. The Importance of Anxiety Care Overcoming Fear : Dental anxiety and phobias can prevent individuals from seeking necessary dental care, leading to more significant issues in the future. Reducing Stress : Sedation dentistry helps patients feel at ease and minimizes stress, creating a more comfortable environment for both the patient and the dentist. Ensuring Regular Care : With anxiety care in place, individuals are more likely to maintain regular dental visits and better oral health. Benefits of Sedation Dentistry Stress-Free Appointments : Patients can relax and receive treatment without fear or anxiety. Pain Management : Sedation helps manage pain during and after dental procedures. Efficient Treatment : With patients at ease, our dentist and team can work more efficiently, leading to shorter appointment times. Take the First Step Toward Anxiety Care Do not let dental fear or anxiety prevent you from obtaining the care you need. Dr. Will Grella is ready to provide sedation dentistry solutions in Long Beach, California! Call us at 562-597-1543 to schedule a consultation. FAQ What is sedation dentistry and who might benefit from it? Sedation dentistry is the use of medication to help patients relax during their dental care. It is beneficial for individuals with dental anxiety, a strong gag reflex or those undergoing lengthy or complex treatments. What types of sedation are available? There is nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) oral sedatives and intravenous (IV) sedation. Our dentist will discuss the best option based on your needs and the procedure being performed. Is sedation dentistry safe? Sedation dentistry is usually safe when handled by someone who is certified. Our dentist will evaluate your medical history and current health to ensure the chosen sedation method is appropriate for you. Monitoring during the procedure helps ensure safety. How long will it take to recover from sedation? Recovery time depends on the type of sedation used. For nitrous oxide, effects wear off quickly, allowing you to resume normal activities almost immediately. For oral or IV sedation, you may need a few hours to fully recover and should arrange for someone to drive you home. Request An Appointment Ready to take the first step towards a healthier smile? Our dentist and team utilize this advanced imaging system to provide patients with unparalleled precision and accuracy in diagnosis and treatment planning. Understanding CBCT Imaging CBCT is a cutting-edge imaging technique that generates 3D images of the oral and maxillofacial structures, including teeth, jaws and surrounding tissues. This technology employs a cone-shaped X-ray beam to capture detailed cross-sectional views, offering a comprehensive understanding of dental anatomy. Applications of CBCT in Dentistry Precise Diagnoses : CBCT provides in-depth insights, enabling the identification of complex dental issues such as impacted teeth, fractures and infections. Treatment Planning : CBCT aids in the precise planning of procedures like dental implants and orthodontic treatments. Enhanced Safety : With lower radiation exposure compared to traditional CT scans, CBCT prioritizes patient safety. Benefits of Choosing a CBCT Scanner Personalized Treatment : CBCT imaging allows for tailored treatment plans based on an individual’s unique dental anatomy. Time and Cost Efficiency : By streamlining diagnoses and planning, CBCT ultimately saves patients time and money. Improved Outcomes : The increased precision of CBCT technology leads to better treatment results. Experience CBCT Technology Embrace the future of dentistry with Dr. Will Grella and our state-of-the-art CBCT scanner in Long Beach, California. Schedule a consultation today by calling 562-597-1543 to take advantage of the unparalleled benefits of CBCT imaging. FAQ What is a CBCT scanner and how does it differ from a traditional X-ray? A CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography) scanner provides a 3D view of your dental structures, unlike traditional X-rays, which offer only 2D images. The 3D images from a CBCT scanner help us see detailed bone structures, root canals and surrounding tissues, improving diagnostic accuracy. Is the CBCT scan process uncomfortable or invasive? The CBCT scan process is noninvasive and generally quick. You will simply need to sit or stand still while the scanner rotates around your head, capturing detailed images in seconds. It is typically painless and requires no special preparation. How do the images from a CBCT scan assist with dental procedures? CBCT images provide a comprehensive view of your dental anatomy, which aids in precise treatment planning. For example, they help in the accurate placement of dental implants, assessing bone density and diagnosing complex dental conditions. Are there any risks associated with CBCT scanning? While CBCT scans involve radiation, the dose is relatively low compared to traditional CT scans. Our practice uses advanced equipment that minimizes exposure and we only perform scans when necessary to ensure the benefits outweigh any potential risks.
