DOWNLOAD STUDENT AGREEMENT You agree to all terms at enrollment. PAYMENTS & FEES TUITION Tuition includes one lesson a week, with the exception of holidays. Tuition is based on 48 lessons per year and has already been pro-rated to reflect the 3 weeks a year we are closed and the other closures for holidays. You are not paying for lessons when we are closed since lessons are based off 48 lessons per year. Some months will have 5 lessons, and others may have less due to holidays and closures. Tuition is fixed and remains the same regardless if it is a 5 week month, or less. We do not charge more for months with extra weeks. If payment is not received on your billing date, your spot may be given away to another student on our waiting list. Tuition is not adjusted for missed or canceled lessons. No partial refunds will be given. Any credits can be gifted to friends and family. All credits expire in 30 days. You will be billed 5 days before the start of each month.   ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP FEE An annual membership fee of $35 occurs once a year.   BOOKS & MUSIC Students are responsible for any books and sheet music charges.   Flat-rate Tuition Explained No partial refunds will be given. MAKE-UP LESSONS Lessons are given at the same time & date each week. If you need to permanently change your lesson time and day, you must give us 24 hour notice so we can find a new time for your weekly lessons. Login to your student account to cancel lessons and use credits for rescheduling. No partial refunds will be given for missed or cancelled lessons.   Private Lessons: Please give 24 hour notice if you can not make it to your regular scheduled lesson. If notice is given 24 hours in advance, you will receive a credit to schedule a make up lesson. Credit expires in 30 days.   Group Classes/Rock Band/Lil' Classes: Missed classes will be issued an automatic "make up credit" in their account. You may use this credit to attend another group class or our monthly group make up class. Credits expires in 30 days.   Monthly Group Make Up Class: This is an hour long group make up class that happens on the last Saturday & Sunday of every month - for ages 6+. You must reserve your spot. Spots are limited. If you cancel your lesson with less than 24 hour notice, you can attend the monthly group make up class. Simply notify the front desk that you would like to attend the next monthly group make up class. PAUSING OR DISCONTINUING LESSONS DISCONTINUING LESSONS To discontinue lessons and payments, the front desk needs to be notified by the 14th of the current month, in order to cancel lessons for the following month. Lessons cannot be discontinued in the middle of a billing cycle. No partial refunds will be given, however you may always gift these lessons to a family member or friend. These lessons expire at the end of the current month. PAUSING LESSONS Students may pause their lessons for 30, 60, or 90 days at a time by notifying the school by the 14th of the current month, in order to pause lessons for following months. H owever, kindly understand that your spot will be given away during your absence if you do not give a return date. SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS If your regular teacher is unable to make your lesson, a qualified substitute teacher will be provided. The chance to study with another teacher will benefit each student as all teachers have their own unique personalities and teaching styles. All of our teachers are familiar with studio practices and policies and will make lessons fun and engaging, ensure that the students learn a song of their choice, and implement fun motivational programs like music money and games. Our billing and attendance policies still apply. ALL SCHEDULING Teachers do not handle scheduling. All scheduling must be done through the school. I grew up in San Diego, CA and began taking lessons at age seven at Alan's Music Center in La Mesa, CA. By age 16, I was teaching students of my own with the encouragement of my guitar teacher, Evans. After high school, I moved to Boston, MA where I attended Berklee College of Music . I continued to tutor students at the local FAME high school in Boston. Upon earning a dual degree in Music Production/Engineering and Songwriting, I moved to Los Angeles and began teaching private students again. Music has shaped my life in such a way that I could never imagine not having it in my life as a young child and teenager. It always was an emotional release and comfort. I see how it helps people and changes lives. I want to share that experience with every student that comes in to our school . At TMA I strive to make the parent experience easy and painless. We do this by hiring great teachers and handling all the "motivation" a student needs to keep going. Unlike other schools that hire contractors and have no oversight over the curriculum - we hire, train, and oversee only a handful of the best instructors. We require that these teachers meet our high expectations. Our educators have a passion for teaching, compassion for students, are throughly background checked, and have expertise on their instrument. Every teacher goes through extensive training in our tested curriculum. Not only do our teachers have years of experience, they are passionate about passing along their love of music to every student. ENROLL WHAT TO EXPECT All students can expect one-on-one coaching from our instructors . In addition to learning to read music, campers with collaborate on writing and performing together as a band. A typical week consist of - GAMES, RELAY RACES AT THE PARK, KARAOKE, MUSIC HISTORY, REHEARSAL TIME WITH BAND, INDIVIDUAL PRACTICE TIME, ART PROJECTS, FREE TIME, AND GUEST SPEAKERS. Our greatest adult story is our 70 y/o student who decided to learn the piano. She’s been taking lessons with us for 11 years, playing the classics she loves. Most of our adult students take private lessons. However, adult group classes are also available. We are continually registering new students for both group and private music lessons. We also offer teachers the opportunity to stay busy with our Lil' Programs, Summer Camps and monthly events. If you are ready to work, we have eager students ready to learn. EXTRAS ARE TAKEN CARE OF – YOUR ONLY RESPONSIBILITY IS TO TEACH Our organized and friendly administrative and management staff handle all of the details. From scheduling to collecting fees to organizing recitals. These details are handled by our administrators, not the teacher. This means the teacher is free to focus on teaching and not get bogged down by administration or handling awkward situations in regard to tuition collection or scheduling. Driving all over town for a couple lessons, trying to remember who is months behind on tuition, and trying to protect your time against student cancellations with no pay are all problems of the past. Our admin team is working 7 days a week to make sure everything is taken care of for you. OUR TEACHERS ARE EMPLOYEES Our teachers are classified as employees, which provides many benefits in the case of seeking a car loan, home mortgage, or other applications which look more favorably upon a consistent employee job as opposed to a contractor position. Employee jobs are sometimes hard to come by for professional musicians, so we are proud to offer this benefit! Our teachers are conveniently paid via direct deposit twice a month. YOUR TIME IS RESPECTED AND YOU ARE PAID WHEN STUDENTS CANCEL LATE Our teachers are paid when students do not provide 24 hour notice. Even when they DO provide an 24 hour notice, we do our best to book a make-up lesson in that spot so that you are still paid. Our teachers are very comfortable knowing how much income they will make in any given month. COMFORTABLE AND PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ENVIRONMENT We provide our teachers with a beautiful, comfortable teaching space. Our location is clean, and well-maintained. ALWAYS KNOW YOUR SCHEDULE WITH OUR ONLINE SCHEDULING SYSTEM Access your updated schedule, absences, make-ups, etc. online through your teacher portal at all times. Our scheduling system is incredibly easy to navigate and allows teachers to always be kept up to date on their students and schedule from home or on-the-go or wherever you are. All of our young beginners start in an Intro Class. These classes are a month long. After an Intro Class, students move on to a Group Class. These classes are on going. Beginners are in a group class for about a year. After Group Class students move on to Private lessons. Private lessons are on going. We recommend for older beginners or intermediate students, that they start with Private Lessons. Please start by filling out our enrollment form . If you have any questions please contact us. 310-425-8322 [email protected] HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK? Tuition includes one lesson a week, with the exception of holidays. Tuition is based on 48 lessons per year and has already been pro-rated to reflect the 3 weeks a year we are closed and the other closures for holidays. You are not paying for lessons when we are closed since lessons are based off 48 lessons per year. Some months will have 5 lessons, and others may have less due to holidays and closures. Tuition is fixed and remains the same regardless if it is a 5 week month, or less. We do not charge more for months with extra weeks. If payment is not received on your billing date, your spot may be given away to another student on our waiting list. Tuition is not adjusted for missed or canceled lessons. No partial refunds will be given. Any credits can be gifted to friends and family. All credits expire in 30 days. We have a yearly registration fee of $55. Teachers never handle payment or scheduling. This is always handled by the studio. HOW OFTEN ARE LESSONS? CAN I COME IN TWICE A WEEK? We recommend lessons once a week for most students. For accelerated students or those preparing for an upcoming performance who may need some extra time, we are happy to add an additional lesson per week. WHAT IF I MISS MY LESSON? MISSED OR CANCELED LESSONS? We encourage our students to stay consistent with lessons each week. This is both beneficial for the student’s progress and guarantees a spot on their teacher’s schedule. If you have a scheduling conflict or get sick, please contact us via phone, email or text and let us know you won’t make your regular scheduled lesson time. Private Lessons: We will always offer a make up time if the availability exists. Please give 24 hour notice if you can not make it to your regular scheduled lesson. If notice is given 24 hours in advance, you will receive a credit to schedule a make up lesson. Credit expires in 30 days. Group Class/Rock Band/Lil' Rockers/Lil Mozarts: If 24 hour notice is given for a canceled class, students will be issued a credit. Students may use this credit to attend any other group class as a make up, if availability exists. If less than 24 hour notice is given, you may attend the monthly group make up class. No credit is needed for the monthly group make up class. Credits expires in 30 days. Monthly Group Make Up Class: This is an hour long group make up class that happens on the last Saturday of every month. Anyone can attend this class for any reason. You must reserve your spot. Spots are limited. If you cancel your lesson with less than 24 hour notice, you can attend the monthly group make up class with out credits. There is no limit to how many monthly group make ups classes you can attend. Simply notify the front desk that you would like to attend the next monthly group make up class. DO YOU GIVE TRIAL LESSONS? I’M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO COMMIT TO A MONTH OF LESSONS. It takes time for students to get comfortable with their instructors and get into the rhythm of taking music lessons. While we do not offer a trial lessons, we do offer a MBG Money Back Guarantee. It's rare, but sometimes it takes a few lessons to find the perfect teacher. Or maybe group lessons would be a better fit for you instead of 1 on 1 lessons. We'll figure out what works best for you! If you'd like to cancel your lessons after the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd lesson, let us know, and we will refund any unused lessons. After the 4th lesson we assume you will be continuing with lessons. When you sign up for lessons you are signing up for a full month of lessons. You must let us know before the 4th lesson to receive a MBG. WHAT IF I’M NOT SURE IF MY TEACHER IS THE RIGHT FIT? It’s rare that this happens but if you are not connecting with your teacher, we will work to reassign you with a teacher that best fits your personality and needs. CAN I SPLIT MY 30 MINUTE LESSON INTO A GUITAR LESSON AND PIANO LESSON? A 60 minute private lesson may be split into half, i.e. 30 minutes guitar and 30 minutes Voice. A 30 minute lesson is only enough time to go over one instrument. A 60 minute private lesson may be split between siblings as well. WHAT IF I DON’T WISH TO CONTINUE AFTER MY FIRST LESSON AND I PAID FOR A MONTH OF LESSONS? You will receive a refund for any unused lessons. SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS If your regular teacher is unable to make your lesson, a qualified substitute teacher will be provided. All of our teachers are familiar with studio practices and policies and will be able to pick up right where you left off the previous week. The opportunity to work with a different teacher can be a great benefit too. Our billing and attendance policies still apply. CAN I PAY FOR MY LESSONS WHEN I COME IN FOR MY FIRST LESSON? We want to make sure every student is set up for success. For this reason, we do not offer walk-ins for private lessons. Please contact the studio so we can set you up with the right teacher & time for you. You must pay for your first lesson to guarantee a spot with your teacher. Your lesson day and time are confirmed once we receive payment. We do accept walking for group classes that are already active. DO YOU DO RECITALS? Yes. We put on multiple recitals a year. Everyone is invited to attend and participate. Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to participate. Our recitals are very laid back and fun. You don’t have to memorize your music unless you want to. If it’s your first time and you’d feel more comfortable playing a duet with your teacher, that’s fine too! We clap and cheer for everyone and then eat cake! HOW OFTEN SHOULD I REMIND MY CHILD TO PRACTICE? We know it can be a drag to stay on top of your child’s practicing. As a parent, we recommend that you remind your child to practice every day. Practicing should be daily habit, like brushing your teeth. We recommend very short increments - every day. 5 - 10 minutes is GREAT! HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE? Every day. We recommend you try and sit down everyday to practice, even if you only have 10 minutes. Consistency is much more important than how long you practice. Beginners ages 4-6 10 minutes a day Beginners ages 7-10 15 minutes a day Intermediate students or beginner adults 20 minutes a day Advanced students 30-60 minutes a day WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY LESSON? Each week you will need to bring: your instrument (except for piano students) your notebook and a pencil. Notebooks are provided to the student at their first lesson and are very important to the lessons. Teachers write down all assignments, practice boxes, and use the notebooks to teach note reading. Voice students are encouraged to bring an iPod or smartphone for recording practice and warmups. Your teacher can record your lesson for you and email it if you don’t have one. Feel free to bring any sheet music, books or songs on a smartphone/iPod you would like to work on. We’ve found that practicing an instrument can be done in as little as ten minutes for beginners. In most cases, this is the best way to approach learning to play an instrument. The class introduces basic movement, rhythm, and self-expression in a fun and supportive environment. Students explore dance through music, creative movement, and beginner techniques. Along the way they develop coordination, confidence, and comfort performing in front of others. Whether your child hopes to perform on stage or just wants an active and creative activity, this class is a great place to start. Class Options by Age Ages 3–5: Creative Movement & Dance Foundations Our youngest dancers learn through imagination, games, and music. Each class follows a consistent structure so children feel safe, confident, and excited to participate. Students will explore: Body awareness and movement Fast vs. slow rhythms High and low levels Animal and character movements Simple traveling steps across the room Mini hip-hop and playful ballet basics Classes include activities like freeze dance, scarves and ribbons, creative games, and simple choreography. At the end of the session, students will perform a short dance for parents during the final class. Ages 6-8: Exploring Dance Styles Students begin learning basic dance techniques while continuing to develop creativity and musicality. Is My Child Too Shy for Dance?: Our Intro to Dance classes are designed with beginners in mind, including children who may feel a little nervous at first. The class environment is supportive and encouraging. Teachers guide students step by step and keep the focus on fun, movement, and participation rather than perfection. Most shy students warm up quickly once they see that everyone is learning together.       What Happens in the First Class? : Teachers begin with a simple warm-up and fun movement activities so students can get used to the space and meet the instructor. From there, students learn a few basic dance movements and participate in creative games set to music. There is no pressure to perform perfectly. The goal of the first class is to help students relax, move, and enjoy the experience. By the end of the class, most students are smiling, laughing, and excited to come back the following week.
