TNP believes in the power of nonprofits to transform communities and envisions a sector built on equitable partnerships, shared resources, and a culture of learning. We move toward this vision, emphasizing the importance of individual and organizational capacity building, community engagement, and collective action to achieve transformative change within the nonprofit sector. TNP’s strategic objectives include fostering strategic partnerships, implementing equitable practices, funding changemakers, and leveraging nonprofit leadership to drive systemic change. Our Story The Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership was founded in 1993 thanks to the strategic minds of our founding members and the support of the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation. With the support of the Foundation and a strong group of executive directors, Long Beach Nonprofit Partnership focused on providing opportunities for learning and connecting, hosting workshops including grantmaking, meet the funder events. In 1999, with the word spreading about this new resource and the need for support increasing, the advisory board decided to seek independent nonprofit status, to formalize the organization and allow it to grow to meet the need. A key strategic decision was made in 2016 to allow us to have a greater impact: the adoption of a new name and the symbolic three gears of capacity building. The new name: The Nonprofit Partnership – took us from a hyper-local focused capacity building nonprofit to a regional capacity builder. 2019 brought us a special opportunity to co-found with the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation, the City’s largest collaborative effort of nonprofits: Long Beach Gives. The Campaign launched just in time to give nonprofits a way to raise funds when we entered 2020 and faced the challenges of the pandemic. To date, 325+ nonprofits have raised over $10 million for the Long Beach Community. We continue today supporting and catalyzing impact of nonprofits and the communities they serve throughout Southern California. Learn more History Long Beach Gives started as a graduate school project of Julie Meenan, Executive Director of the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation (JSGF). With the support of the JSGF Board and in collaboration with The Nonprofit Partnership, a Steering Committee was formed in March 2018. Early founding organizations included: Long Beach Community Foundation, The Rudolph J. and Daphne A. Munzer Foundation, The California Endowment, The Earl B. and Lorraine H. Miller Foundation, and the Arts Council for Long Beach. Along with the Josephine S. Gumbiner Foundation, these foundations guided and supported the creation of a new online, citywide, fundraising effort. Need Nonprofits are critical to the community now more than ever. Whether you've attended local arts or music events, received legal support or health care services, adopted a pet, or enrolled your child in a special after-school program, chances are high you've interfaced with a dozen or more groups. Long Beach nonprofits have continued to: offer safety-net services; find new ways to interact with our youth; advocate for positive change; strengthen mental health services and provide access to the arts as we navigate a new normal. By donating through Long Beach Gives you help to ensure they endure so that our communities can count on them in the months and years to come. Without local nonprofits working tirelessly to fulfill their missions - every day - our community would look and feel like a very different place. Donate today Impact Nonprofits shelter, feed, clothe, advocate for justice and equity, and keep our communities healthy and safe. They provide Long Beach with endless cultural opportunities, find homes for abandoned animals, and fight against climate change. They provide support for military families and veterans. They help individuals with disabilities find and retain employment. They care for our elderly citizens and educate our young, future leaders. They strengthen the economy, and they bring hope to our communities. This approach breaks down barriers and enables collective action to achieve equity, impact, and transformation. TNP facilitates strategic partnerships by: Convening shared spaces for cross-sector partners. Fostering relationship-building between stakeholders. Investing in sector-wide learning opportunities. TNP provides capacity-building support to nonprofits to ensure successful partnerships: Equipping organizations with the necessary skills and technical assistance. Guiding them through equitable contracting processes with government agencies. Supporting them in securing funding and advocating for their missions TNP advocates for equitable practices in partnerships: Championing equitable partnerships among community leaders, nonprofits, funders, and government partners. Advising and facilitating funder-partners’ engagement with smaller, non-traditional organizations. Ensuring that nonprofits have access to the resources they need to thrive. TNP uses community-based and sector-wide data to drive action: TNP leverages data to inform its capacity-building efforts. TNP uses data to understand the needs of the nonprofit sector and to develop targeted training programs. TNP uses data to advocate for equitable practices. TNP uses data to demonstrate the need for equitable contracting practices and to advocate for policies that support the nonprofit sector. TNP uses data to measure its impact. TNP collects data on the outcomes of its programs and initiatives to track its progress and to demonstrate its value to funders and partners. By leveraging data, TNP is able to effectively drive action to support the nonprofit sector and to create positive change in the community. State of the Child Report The State of the Child Report seeks to understand the conditions of children and families and not shy away from talking about COVID-19 impacts, rampant police misconduct, or racism. It identifies conditions we should celebrate and those we should advocate improving. It also shows how public systems affect conditions in the community and arms community members with data needed to affect change. The report sets a baseline for measurement that can guide future investments and policy decisions.
