COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT This Community Code of Conduct lists the guiding principles and standards for how we expect individuals to interact with each other within UVFM Farmers’ Markets and highlights our Zero tolerance Policies. 1. All are welcome here. Hate is not. Everyone has a right to be here and to feel safe. This space shall be free of any comments or actions, including micro-aggressions* , that disparages someone based on race, age, size, gender, ability, sexual orientation, religion, immigration status, or mental health status. 2. Respect is welcome here. Harassment is not. All interactions at the market must be respectful and consent-based. No unwelcome touching or advances, movement-blocking, leering, sexually degrading commentary, sexual gestures, or physical or sexual harassment. 3. Dialogue is welcome here. Argument is not. This community values the sharing of diverse perspectives. Dialogue requires curiosity, listening, compassion, and patience. This is not the place to preach, verbally dominate, shout down, or force your opinions on captive audiences. 4. Good intentions are great, IMPACT is what matters. We expect everyone to think before they speak or act. The impact of your actions is much more important than your intentions. Ask, will your actions achieve your intent? If you are not sure, consider another approach that ensures the other party will receive your action feeling as respected and dignified as you would like to feel. *brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and insults, or sexually charged, objectification toward other people. Healthy Market Rules As an essential service, the farmers, vendors, and staff at UVFM markets have taken great pride in continuing to serve our communities throughout Covid, storms, heat waves, and fires - adjusting daily to fine tune best practices by closely adhering to the safety policies put forth by the CDC, the CDPH, and Cal/OSHA. NO SMOKING: Please do not smoke within 20 ft of the farmers market perimeter. NO PETS RULE: We LOVE our pets too, but the California Department Of Health strictly forbids pets in any open food facility, including all farmers' markets and grocery stores. A working service animal that is specifically trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability is permitted. Emotional support animals are not recognized by the ADA and therefore are not exempt. Please dress your legitimate service animal in a visible vest to help us properly identify them. A misbehaving animal, (jumping, growling, barking for reasons other than as part of a medical emergency, licking the produce, or urinating near vendor booths will be expelled from the market, regardless of Service Animal status. If your beloved fur-baby comes to the market, please plan to have one of its humans stay with them on the sidewalk away from our tents. This will ensure that our Farmers Market Association does not get in trouble or fined, should an undercover County Health Inspector be walking through the market. Thank you for your much needed cooperation! MASK MANDATE UPDATE : Masks are currently optional in our open air markets. We ask that anyone experiencing a new fever, cough or stomach bug , or who may have come into recent contact with someone with symptoms, to remain at home and send someone else to do your shopping. UVFM continues to request that everyone participate in friendly and organized queues; Please step off to the side for spontaneous conversations with friends in order to keep our aisles wide and prevent congested walkways. WHY SHOP Farmers' Markets During A Pandemic       Is it our firm conviction that farmers markets are essential to community food security, and that shopping for food in farmers markets continues to be a safe and recommended choice. NECESSITY: Purchasing fresh food is a non-optional activity that should not be made artificially scarce, when we are fortunate enough to have an abundance of local food available. Keeping farmers' markets open allows residents of the greater Bay Area a safer alternative to grocery stores, which are heavily overcrowded with people and running low on supplies. TOUCH POINTS: Farmers' markets are transparent and traceable. Local food travels short distances, with extremely minimal handling from field to market. Most grocery stores (and online stores) source through vast and complex, national and international distribution chains, with more unmonitored human touch-points for potential contamination.  OPEN AIR: Farmers' markets lend themselves to social distancing and provide a clean and safe shopping experience. The outdoor, UV light and open-air setting offer optimal ventilation in an unconfined space, allowing for less transmission risk than a grocery store. TIME: Farmers' Markets operate for a short 4-hour stretch, once a week, keeping it much more manageable to maintain frequent disinfecting and cleanliness throughout the entire duration of the event. IMMUNE BOOSTING: The food available at Farmers Markets is more densely nutritious than largely industrialized sources (this is highly studied and documented). It is widely believed that immune responses are best served by the intake of fresh fruits, vegetables, and fungi harvested and eaten at the peak of their freshness. LOCAL ECONOMY:  With uncertainty in global markets, it’s more important than ever to protect local food and farm businesses for our collective food security. AIR QUALITY • Fire Season Un-check “Inside Sensors” and change “None” to “AQandU” in the conversion drop-down tab. UVFM is constantly monitoring the AQI of our market locations using https://www.purpleair.com/map (using the AQandU correction setting recommended by the EPA) It is highly recommended that customers attending markets in AQI conditions above 150, have an N95 without a valve (or with the valve taped over) to protect from both Smoke and Coronavirus UVFM Market AQI Closure Guidelines AQI: Unhealthy Range (150-200).  Markets will remain open, however all staff are required to wear proper protective gear such as non-valved N95 masks - provided by their employer for anything above 150 AQI. For the safety of market workers, those staff without proper gear will not be allowed to continue working outside until the conditions clear up. This recommendation is strongly suggested to our customers. AQI: Very Unhealthy Range (201-300) . Each one responds, adapts, and grows to meet the needs and desires of the unique and loyal community it serves. Which One Will You Make Yours? Shopping at your local Farmers' Market is a healthy and enjoyable way to spend your morning. You get outside in the fresh air, rain and shine. Your family is not tempted by all the highly processed and nutrient "enhanced" foods that is often stocked in Grocery Stores. By default a Farmer's Market helps guide you to eat only the most seasonally fresh, whole, nutrient rich foods that are available at any given time in California, since nothing at a Farmers' Market is ever industrialized or shipped from afar.
