I was twenty-one in my first semester of graduate school, teeter-tottering between studying for an exam and working on deliverables for three separate clients. I remember calling a friend in shambles. I said, “I don’t know what’s happening to me, I don’t wake up excited anymore…” My friend, from a place of love and compassion mixed with her own fear and insecurities, gave me the best advice she had – “See it through. You’ve invested this much time, why quit now?” Right then I decided to let go of the voice inside of me that said “Be brave and follow your intuition,” and instead listen to the voice that said “Grit, resolve, and self-sacrifice are the only path to success.” As a first-generation Lebanese-American, born and raised in Oklahoma by war refugees, I felt the pressure of perfection weigh on me daily. With my extended family still in Lebanon, the reality of privilege and opportunity kept me from entertaining a path that did not lead to a six-figure career and the ability to give back financially. My commitment to “success” taught me invaluable skills and trained my grit and resolve, but I was always left feeling empty and unfulfilled. Over time, this neglect of my internal voice led to health complications, relationship tensions, and self-worth insecurities. During my career as a Fortune 500 Change Manager at some of the world’s largest consulting firms, I was promoted multiple times, received international recognition for my work, negotiated over 5 raises, and managed a team of all-stars, yet the inner critic inside my head only became louder with each step. After 10 years of dulling my desires in the name of success, I finally left the career I knew was wrong for me all along. I followed my true inner voice and took all sorts of wild, bold action – including signing up for the A Path That Fits Career Pathfinder Coaching Program. The rest is history. Today, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I am on the path that is meant for me. I wake up excited again, and I could not be more grateful. Career shifts take bravery. I wanted something more authentic and meaningful and I found it in coaching. But first, I had to navigate my own career crisis at the age of 23. I didn’t know it at the time but the process of self-discovery that illuminated my path would later become the foundation of my coaching programs. Suffice it to say that I’ve been there. My formal training and certifications come from The Coaches Training Institute, Hakomi Mindfulness & Somatic Psychology, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and David Elliott’s breathwork. I’m one part coach, one part purpose guide, one part entrepreneur, one part therapist, and one part breathwork facilitator. I’ve also studied mindfulness meditation, rites of passage, and have a deep reverence for nature and its wisdom. Perhaps my most significant teachers have been illness and injury: chronic back pain that I lived with for 15 years and a gnarly concussion sustained in a river rafting accident. Originally born and raised in San Francisco, my circuitous path to coaching can be traced back to the work I’ve done and continue to do as an educator. Numerous twists, turns, and professional pivots have led me from teaching middle school science, to founding and running the country’s first single-sex public charter school serving predominantly Black males, helping found a non-profit digital learning organization currently serving over 6,000,000 students, working at a graduate school of education training and supporting teachers and leaders working in our nation’s high-needs public schools, and helping run a non-profit organization supporting youth and adults to explore, articulate, and pursue their purpose. My personal career journey has always been rooted in the transformative power of creating spaces and experiences that promote connection, belonging, impact, advocacy, growth, development, and joy. Whereas all of my professional experiences have been incredibly rewarding and meaningful in their own right, they’ve also served a deeper and more foundational role in my life, guiding me towards my true calling, coaching. My approach to coaching, an extension of my personal mission, focuses on helping develop expanded self-awareness and an increased capacity to live, work, and lead in greater presence and alignment to your sense of purpose. I had done the “right” things- gone to college, gotten good grades, worked hard… but I didn’t know what to do. I wondered if something was wrong with me, or if I was expecting too much from life to want to enjoy my work. I was often told “I could do anything I set my mind to.” Well sure, you can do anything you set your mind to, but what ? After working in everything from landscaping to landlording, non-profit management to Djing, I know how hard it can be to ‘find yourself,’ let alone apply that to a career when you are multi-passionate and have bills to pay. When I was in my mid-twenties I had the good fortune of having a life coach as part of an Americorps position. Those 10 sessions were so transformative for me and I could see myself helping others similarly once I had more life experience. My coach helped me understand myself on a deeper level and how that applies to a vocation. She didn’t judge me or tell me I had to use my degree exactly as it was written. She was there for me in a tough time and helped get me on track. It was a huge relief! By my mid-thirties I had gathered quite a bit of experience managing non-profit programs, and I started to wonder who I was if I wasn’t the manager who held everything together. I realized my self-worth and identity had been wrapped up in a career that didn’t quite fit. Maybe I wasn’t passionate about my work- maybe my work was passionate about me . I didn’t need to be fearless to make a change- but I did need to change. I realized in many of my roles I enjoyed mentoring and teaching others- I was even trained to coach in one of my jobs, which gave me more evidence that this path was a fit! After several years of trainings I became a certified Career and Life Purpose Coach. I specialize in clients who feel lost or stuck, or don’t know what they want to do, but know it isn’t this . Since 2012 I have coached people in all stages of life, from young professionals to executives; those returning to work after a break; business owners; aspiring entrepreneurs; and people who simply need some guidance to make it through a transition. Using both concrete block-busting tools and intuitive coaching skills, my goal is to help realign you with your most authentic self and express that in ways that support you. By identifying and releasing limitations and exploring who you really are, we can create the life you were born to live.
