Here are some frequently asked questions about the interlibrary loan service. Who is eligible for this service? Buena Park Library District adult library card holders What can be requested through interlibrary loan? Print material not owned by the Buena Park Library District. (Note: some items requested for interlibrary loan might be purchased for the library’s collection at the discretion of the librarians, such as new books, bestsellers, and media.) What cannot be requested through interlibrary loan? Entire journals or magazines (as a substitute, photocopies of articles are supplied); audiovisual materials; items from special collections in other libraries How do I make an interlibrary loan request? You may visit the Service Desk in person or call the reference librarians at 714-826-4100 x 125 Is there a charge for the interlibrary loan service? There is a $1.00 non-refundable fee for each loan request (plus any other fees that may be requested by the lending library) How long will it take to fill my request? There is no easy way to predict how long it will take to fill a request. Delivery time is tied to the lending library’s procedures, availability of materials, and the delivery service. An average time is usually 2-3 weeks. How will I be notified when the items is available? You will be notified by telephone or postcard when the item arrives. The material will be held for you at the checkout counter. How long can I use the material? If the item is a photocopy, normally it is yours to keep. For loans of books or other materials, the lending library will set the length of time and any special conditions of the loan, such as “library use only” or “nonrenewable." What are my obligations as an interlibrary loan borrower? To handle all items with care and to return them promptly when due. To return the items at the Buena Park Library checkout counter by the due date. (Please do not return items in any of the book drops.) If an item is lost or damaged, you, the borrower, are financially responsible. (Please do not attempt any repairs yourself, and let library staff know immediately of any damages.) This program is part of a state initiative to advance equitable access to state parks and open spaces for all Californians. How does the program work? Adult Buena Park Library card holders will be able to check out a pass for 3 weeks, then return the pass to the library for others to use. California State Library Parks Passes are non-renewable and limited to one pass per library card. Pass Validity & Terms: The pass is valid for entry of one passenger vehicle with capacity of nine people or less or one highway licensed motorcycle at participating state park units. Passes will be valid at 200+ participating state park units. You can find your closest park using this map of eligible parks and all library branches in California . The pass will not be honored at state park units operated by federal or local government and private agencies or concessionaires, or at parks that do not require a vehicle day-use pass, such as marine areas or kayak-in parks. Purpose The purpose of the Buena Park Library District’s (“District”) Lost and Unclaimed Property Policy is to establish a system to facilitate recovery of lost property to its rightful owner, ensure fair and safe handling of lost items, and define a process for the disposal of unclaimed items. 2. Disclaimer The District is not responsible for items left in the library or on District grounds, regardless of value. Patrons should refrain from leaving items unattended. Personal items brought into the library are the sole responsibility of the owner and the District has no responsibility to secure, protect, or monitor personal items. 3. Found Items Items turned over to staff or left in the library after closing will be placed in Lost and Found storage and tagged with the date the item was found. Unattended belongings found in the library or on District grounds may be tagged with a notice informing the owner that it is a violation of the Rules of Conduct to leave unattended items on District property. District staff may report any items that appear suspicious in nature or that are suspected to be stolen property to the Buena Park Police Department. 4. Claiming Lost Items District staff will make a reasonable attempt to ascertain ownership and contact the owner if the lost property contains identifiable information. To claim a lost item, the patron must satisfactorily describe it to District staff. 5. Handling and Disposal of Lost Property With the exception of the items below, all found property will be discarded thirty (30) days after being turned over to the District. Usable items may be donated to a non-profit organization, school, or government agency at the discretion of the Library Director. Section 2080.3 of the Civil Code of the State of California prohibits staff members who find lost or unclaimed property in the course of their employment from taking title to such property. a. Found library cards will be stored securely for ninety (90) days after a reasonable attempt has been made to contact the patron and will be shredded thereafter. b.
