These ceremonies honor students who completed their degrees in the previous fall, as well as candidates for graduation in winter, spring, and summer of the current academic year. For Commencement 2026, students earning a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in fall 2025, winter 2026, spring 2026, or summer 2026 are invited to participate in the May 2026 ceremonies at the historic Shrine Auditorium. Each ceremony will be organized by college, and graduates will be automatically assigned to a ceremony based on their college, department, and major. For event details including the full schedule, please visit the Commencement 2026 section of the website regularly as information is posted as soon as they are confirmed.    DAYS   HOURS   MINUTES   SECONDS Until Commencement   Commencement 2026 Graduation vs Commencement Graduation and Commencement are two different things. Graduation is when the student has officially completed all their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree requirements. Commencement is the ceremony in which degrees are conferred and celebrates the achievement of the students who have graduated or will soon graduate during the academic year. Graduation To officially graduate from Cal State LA, students must satisfy all University, college, and departmental requirements for their specific bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. Graduation is managed by the Graduation Office, which is part of the Registrar's Office. The Graduation Office evaluates graduation applications and other educational records, including honors eligibility, for the purpose of awarding degrees. Diplomas are mailed to students by the Graduation Office once final grades have been verified after the graduation term. Apply for Your Degree Commencement Participation in Commencement is optional, not mandatory. Choosing not to participate does not affect a student’s eligibility to graduate from the University. Additionally, participating in Commencement does not automatically indicate that a student has graduated. Commencement is a separate process from graduating. Eligible graduation candidates may register to participate in Commencement in mid-spring. When a student confirms participation, Cal State LA will reserve a seat for the student at the ceremony and provide a designated number of guest tickets. The Commencement Office plans, coordinates, and manages all Commencement ceremonies and related activities, including registration, ticketing, and the distribution of honors cords. Cross Cultural Centers >>> Cultural Graduation Celebrations The Cross Cultural Centers manage and coordinate the Cultural Graduation Celebrations. These celebrations are great opportunities for graduating students to acknowledge their academic achievements, honor their families, and to celebrate the cultural influences that have contributed to their academic success. Federal and State Laws Protect and Support You Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq., is a Federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex—including pregnancy and parental status—in educational programs and activities. California law equally prohibits discrimination based on pregnancy and parental status. This means that students who are pregnant and parenting must be given equal access to educational programs and activities. How is this achieved?   Early registration – Early registration appointments are now available for students with dependent children under the age of eighteen. For more details, visit Registration & Enrollment . Class attendance – Students may not be prevented from attending classes on the basis of pregnancy. Excused absences – Student absences due to childbirth or illness related to pregnancy must be excused so long as it is justified by medical documentation. Make up work – Professors must allow students to make up work if deadlines were missed due to childbirth or illness related to pregnancy (so long as it is justified by medical documentation). Lactation rooms – Parenting students must be given access to lactation rooms on campus for pumping or breastfeeding. Log-In Reporting Whom Should I Contact? Call 9-1-1 if you are in the midst of any kind of emergency, immediate harm or threat of harm. The University has designated a Title IX Coordinator to monitor and oversee overall compliance with laws and policies related to nondiscrimination based on sex. The campus Title IX Coordinator is available to explain and discuss: Your right to file a criminal complaint (in cases of Sexual Violence); the University's relevant complaint process, and your right to receive assistance with that process, including the investigation process; how confidentiality is handled; available resources, both on and off campus; and other related matters. If you have experienced Sexual Misconduct you are encouraged to seek immediate assistance from police and healthcare providers for your physical safety, emotional support and medical care. The use of alcohol or drugs never makes the victim at fault for Sexual Violence. Moreover, victims should not be deterred from reporting incidents of Sexual Violence out of a concern that they might be disciplined for related violations of drug, alcohol or other University policies. Except in extreme circumstances, victims of Sexual Violence shall not be subject to discipline for related violations of University policy. Criminal Reporting to University police and/or local police is an option at any time following a Sexual Violence incident. If you choose not to report to the police immediately, you can still make the report at a later time. However, with the passage of time, the ability to gather evidence to assist with criminal prosecution may be limited.
