Blockages in the wastewater system can also contribute to Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) which result in fines from regulatory agencies. Please do your part to keep our system blockage-free and do not treat your toilet like a trash can. Are you flushing any of the items listed in the chart below? Read on to find out and change your habits today! OK TO FLUSH DO NOT FLUSH Toilet Paper Tampons, applicators, pads, or panty liners Human Waste Hair or Floss Facial tissues, Towels, or Wipes (Even if Labeled "Flushable") Condoms & Wrappers Bandages, Needles or Medicine Cotton swabs, pads, or Q-Tips Cigarettes Cat litter or pet waste FOG (See below) Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) Now that our collection system maintenance is fully operational, we would like to remind our community to keep the FOG out! By FOG, we mean Fats, Oils, and Grease. These are some of the most common causes of sewer system blockage across the nation and it’s true for our community as well. FOGs can come from our food service establishments, but “harmless” amounts of oil washed down the sink from our residential customers can amount to an accumulation of problems to our aging sewer collection system. Even though our Code [1] prohibits FOG discharge in our sewer system in excess of 100 mg/L (about 1/16 of a teaspoon per liter of water), we believe these simple reminders will help tremendously. To help prevent sewer blockages, please properly dispose of fats, oils, and grease by following these simple practices: Do not pour cooking oil, greasy food, dairy products, or salad dressing down the drain. Use strainers in the sink drains to catch food scraps and other solids. Do not use hot water and soap to try to wash grease down the drain. It will eventually cool and harden in the sewer lines. Pour cooled grease into a disposable container, cover with a tight-fitting lid and place in your freezer. Once contents are frozen, toss in the garbage. Mix cooking oils with absorbent material such as coffee grounds or cat litter. Place in tight lidded container and dispose in garbage. Wipe or scrape food particles from pots, pans and dishes into the trash can prior to placing them in the dishwasher or sink. (This also saves water by skipping the rinse!) Wipe excess fats and grease from pans with a dry paper towel and toss it in the garbage. These tips will prevent grease blockage that could lead to sewage spills which could harm property and the environment. For those in the food service establishments, please follow these same guidelines and continue to maintain your grease traps. Thank you ahead of time for your cooperation. We will provide ongoing updates, including construction milestones, road closures, and any potential service impacts. Stuart Street Tank Construction Project – Update 3/26/2026 On Friday, March 27, 2026, Water Department staff will begin preparations for the demolition of the “old” Stuart Street Tank. Most of the water has already been transferred to the Fiscalini Tank, with approximately two feet remaining to support booster pump operations. The remainder will be drained through the overflow. Residents may see water flowing along Ardath and Richard Streets as this process takes place. This is expected, and Water Department staff will be monitoring the discharge to ensure the tank is fully drained ahead of demolition, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026. Stuart Street Tank Construction Project – Update 3/25/2026 We are pleased to announce that Tank 1 has been fully commissioned following receipt of authorization for its addition/replacement. The authorization comes via an amendment to the Domestic Water Supply Permit issued to the District by the State Water Resources Control Board on March 19, 2026. As part of the commissioning process, bacteriological and Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) analyses were performed, and all results passed successfully. These were the final steps required to grant permission for the new tank to operate. The newly installed tank will operate in parallel with the existing reservoir for one week before demolition and removal of the old tank. Additionally, inter-agency collaboration is underway to relocate the propane tank for the backup power generator that supports the County Emergency Radios Control Room and antennae, ensuring continued operational readiness for emergency communications. We appreciate the community’s patience and support as we continue to improve our water infrastructure. Stuart Street Tank Construction Project – Update 3/5/2026 Construction activities continued this week at the Stuart Street Tank site, with installation work completed inside Tank No. 2. Tank construction crews were on site to install the hydrodynamic mixing system (mixing manifold). This work included installing the associated internal piping and pipe supports within the tank. The mixing system will improve water circulation and help maintain consistent water quality within the storage tank and distribution system. Crews also installed the TideFlex duckbill check valve on the discharge pipe. This valve is designed to prevent backflow and protect both the tank and downstream infrastructure. Inspection and Coating Work Coating repairs and “holiday” testing for the affected areas have been completed. Coating crews will continue work through the remainder of the week to complete final touch-ups associated with the mixing system and pipe support installation. Upcoming Work / Commissioning Work scheduled for next week includes disinfection and filling of the new tank in preparation for bacteriological testing. Following disinfection and filling, the tank will remain offline during the required analytical hold period prior to commissioning. District staff is coordinating closely with the Division of Drinking Water throughout the testing and commissioning process. A Permission to Operate (PTO) is anticipated the week following the completion of tank sample analysis. Stuart Street Tank Replacement Project – Tank No. 2 Improvement 2/17/2026 Grout installation beneath Tank No. 2 around the ringwall has been completed. A 1-1/8-inch polyurethane backer rod was first installed a minimum of six inches from the tank edge. Non-shrink grout was then mixed and placed beneath the tank, using the backer rod to help confine and press the grout into place. Delivery of project materials from Famcon, including SDR-35 sewer pipe for the drain system, ductile iron (DI) pipe for the Tank No. 2 connection, fittings, gaskets, and flange kits. The overflow box, weighing approximately 1,200 pounds, was set in place using an excavator. To protect the valve cans, contractor placed soil around the risers and carefully positioned the excavator tracks over the area while transporting and setting the box on the northwest side of Tank No. 2. The overflow box was installed and backfilled in accordance with the Contract Documents, located approximately six inches from the tank ringwall and set at a height 16 inches below the bottom of the overflow pipe. Following installation, the site was cleaned and stabilized in preparation for the forecasted rain. Wattles were installed around the area where the retaining wall was removed, and sandbags were placed using leftover rock from the excavation beneath the overflow box. Due to the anticipated rain, no work is scheduled for the remainder of this week. Next week, a planned bypass will be implemented to temporarily take both tanks offline so new isolation valves can be installed at the interconnections. Upcoming project tasks required prior to placing the tank back in service include disinfection of the new tank appurtenances and completion of a five-day bacteriological sampling and analysis period. We look forward to commissioning the new tank and beginning demolition work on the remaining tank in early March, and we thank the Annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) - Cambria Community Services District Skip to main content CCSD Water Meters Report a Leak Report a Hydrant Issue Contact Us Employment Search: Search Toggle navigation Home About Us Board of Directors Staff General Manager Administration & Finance Staff Emergency Personnel Utilities Staff Facilities & Resources Staff District Organizational Chart Strategic Plan Departments Administration Finance Human Resources Current Employees IAFF MCE SEIU New Employees Utilities (Water & Wastewater) Water Wastewater Request for Proposals Utilities Forms Facilities & Resources Cambria Fire Department Board & Committee Meetings Board Meetings Finance Committee Meetings Fire Protection Committee Meetings PROS Committee Meetings Resources & Infrastructure Committee Meetings Peak Agenda Management Portal Meeting Archive News Current News Emergency Notifications Notices Press Releases Public Records Request Request for Proposals Employment Transparency Pay Bill Rates & Fees Contact Finance Staff Water CCSD Water Meters Report Water Waste Contact Water Services Conservation & Permits Water Conservation Water Positions and Wait List Affordable Housing Program Transfers & Assignments Wait List Water Service FAQs Will Serves & Retrofits Retrofit Program Vacation Rental Registration Drought Plans , Programs & Studies Water Shortage Contingency Plan Instream Flow Study Urban Water Management Plan Voluntary Lot Merger Program Rates & Fees Start, Change or Stop Service Utilities Forms Water Department Staff Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Your Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report Water Data Wastewater Contact Wastewater Wastewater SST Projects What Not to Flush Wastewater Department Staff Utilities Forms Fire Emergency Preparedness Defensible Space Community Programs Cambria Fire Safe Focus Group Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Neighborhood Liaison Group Facilities/PROS Contact Facilities & Resources CCSD Facilities Parks, Recreation & Open Space Banners on Main Street Light Lamp Posts Cambria Veterans' Memorial Hall EV Charging Station Facilities & Resources Department Staff Calendar Water CCSD Water Meters Report Water Waste Contact Water Services Conservation & Permits Drought Plans , Programs & Studies Rates & Fees Start, Change or Stop Service Utilities Forms Water Department Staff Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) Your Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report Water Data Annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) To obtain details on Cambria's water quality, please consult this year's Consumer Confidence Report. Whether it's a wildfire, earthquake, power outage, or medical emergency, knowing your neighbors can save lives. When neighbors connect, everyone becomes stronger, safer, and more prepared. That’s why the Cambria Fire Department supports Neighborhood Liaison Groups throughout our community. What is a Neighborhood Liaison Group? A Neighborhood Liaison Group is a small, local network of households that plan together to respond effectively in a disaster.
