We show up year-round at schools, senior centers, health fairs, apartment buildings, and neighborhood events, sharing tips and tools to reduce fire risk and save lives. Our public education team is very flexible, so if an in-person presentation doesn’t work, we can provide our presentations virtually as well. To request a presentation, please contact us at the following email address:
[email protected] On the fire district’s webpage, you will find several “Tip Sheets” that cover a variety of fire and life safety topics The tip sheets can be downloaded or printed. Please click on the link on the left side of this page labeled: Downloadable Safety Tip Sheets (coming soon) Home Fire Safety Home fires strike suddenly and without warning, leaving residents with a matter of minutes to escape. What can you do to protect your home and your family? Home fire safety is the essential practice of preventing fires from starting and being prepared to escape quickly and safely if one occurs. It involves a combination of proactive steps, including: Installing and maintaining smoke alarms for early detection. Creating and practicing home fire escape plans with clear routes. Maintaining fire-safe habits, such as safe cooking and heater use. The goal is to protect lives, property, and belongings through preparation and quick, safe evacuation. Our Home Fire Safety Presentations fit well into homeowner's association groups, civic groups, or any groups that want to learn how to prevent home fires and be prepared. This presentation can be customized to include apartments and condos as well as manufactured or mobile homes. Fire Safety for Elementary, Middle School, and Scout Groups This 35-45 minute fire safety presentation is tailored to elementary and middle school-aged children. This presentation can also be beneficial for scout groups, homeschools, and after-school programs. This is a fun educational program that teaches fire safety througha part lecture and part age-level appropriate videos. There is also an incentive for children to take home a project where they can work with their family to create a home fire escape plan and turn that back into their teachers for a special prize from the Fire District. Emergency Preparedness If a big earthquake were to hit tomorrow, do you have adequate supplies to sustain your family for at least 72 hours? In this 60-minute presentation, your group will learn how to create an emergency preparedness plan, how to build a Go-Bag, and how to stay informed of events “before, during, and after” any type of emergency or disaster by utilizing emergency alert apps and other emergency alert systems available to county residents. This program follows the nationally recognized safety initiative “Ready-Set-Go,” supported by the IAFC, International Association of Fire Chiefs. Fire Extinguisher Use & Safety Your workplace has fire extinguishers available for sudden fire emergencies, but do your employees know how to use them? Do they know when using an extinguisher is appropriate and when it isn’t? The proper use of a fire extinguisher could save lives and property. Your facility can schedule either a hands-on training program with a lecture or a lecture-only presentation. Please note: There is a fee for the hands-on training program, and there is a max of 30 participants per session. The fire district utilizes a digital fire extinguisher training tool for the hands-on training option. The digital tool allows for the training to be held indoors or outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Youth Firesetter Education Nationally, over 50% of all arson arrests are youths under the age of eighteen. Addressing this behavior in children can help prevent injuries and property loss and is believed to reduce the number of adult arsonists in our community. It is normal for a child to be curious about fire. Children want to learn about the world around them. Because your child is curious about fire does not mean there is something wrong with him/her. However, when the interest becomes a dangerous behavior, such as unsupervised experimentation with fire, intervention is essential. If you suspect that your child is lighting fires, playing with matches, lighters, fireworks, or has had even one fire experimentation incident, you need to take action. Ignoring the problem won’t make it go away. By addressing your child’s fire play early, you can take a positive step in ensuring that your child will not be included as a statistic. Engine Demonstrations - Fire Station Tours - Parades Please note the following important details regarding requesting an Engine Demo, Station Tour, or Parade Request: Please keep in mind that emergency response is the district’s top priority. Even if the event is approved, there remains the possibility that the firefighters may be unable to participate at the last minute due to emergency calls. In such cases, they may not be able to notify the event contact in advance, as they could be actively engaged in an incident. Firefighters participating in public education events remain on duty and are available for up to 45 minutes. When completing the form, select a time frame that best aligns with your event needs. Be sure to include the exact event location to ensure accurate dispatching. Request Timing: We accept requests up to six weeks in advance, and all submissions require 3-4 weeks for processing. If your event is more than two months away, we kindly ask that you submit the form closer to the event date. This allows us to coordinate with our Station Captains. Government code 51178 requires the state to identify moderate and high severity zones in addition to very high. Previous LRA maps only contained very high. These maps may include new areas that were not previously identified by the state fire marshal. LRA Maps What are the requirements for the fire protection district? Government Code 51178.5 requires local agencies to make the information available for public review and comment. Public comments can be submitted with the staff report to your governing body at the time of ordinance adoption. Government code 51179 requires the local agency to designate, by ordinance, moderate, high, and very high zones within 120 days. LRA Maps What can the fire protection district do for these new maps? Government code 511 79 does not allow local agencies to decrease the level of fire hazard severity zone or to remove areas from the recommended map. Government code 51179 does allow a local agency to include additional areas not identified by the state fire marshal. The fire protection district is not adding any areas to the maps. The comment period is specifically for comment and the comments cannot be used to decrease or remove areas from the recommended map. LRA Maps Arson FAQ 4 All Content What is Arson? Arson is circumstances where someone intentionally, recklessly, or unlawfully sets a fire or is responsible for starting a fire. Arson FAQ When should you call the Arson Tip Line? You should call when you have information possibly related to the origin of a fire. Arson FAQ If you call the Tip Line, will someone respond immediately? The "tip line" is for messages that we will check at least daily. Depending on our investigative workload, we may not be able to get back to you right away, so if your information is urgent and you need immediate assistance, call us at the general office numbers below. Arson FAQ If you leave a message, is your information anonymous? Yes, your information can be anonymous if you wish. Please specify in your message if you do not want to be identified or contacted by investigators. But remember, a good witness is one of the best crime-fighting tools available to help keep our communities safe! Arson FAQ Station 94 17 All Content Why is a Downtown Brentwood fire station so important? Downtown Brentwood has historically included a fire station to serve the central and eastern portions of the city. After more than a decade without a fire station in the location, Brentwood residents and businesses need lifesaving services returned to Downtown. Through the passage of Contra Costa County's Measure X sales tax in 2020 and the merger of East Contra Costa Fire Protection District, returning a fire station to Downtown is a financial and logistical possibility again, which will improve emergency response times throughout Brentwood. Station 94 Where is Fire Station 94 being built? Fire Station 94 is being constructed at 739 1st Street in Brentwood. This site has been home to the fire service for almost 100 years. After several significant fires in the early 1900's, including the Brentwood Hotel in 1903, an entire block of businesses on First Street in 1915, and the Liberty Union High School chemistry building in 1918, the Brentwood Fire District was formed in 1928 by local residents who elected Clyde Watson as the very first Fire Chief. With the creation of the Fire District, the first official fire engine was purchased for Brentwood. The Brentwood Fire District had one fire station, 91, at 739 1st Street, which also served as the headquarters for the Fire District. In 1984, the Brentwood Fire District was dissolved and became a part of the East Diablo Fire Protection District and Station 91 was re-numbered and became Station 54. The East Diablo Fire District became part of East Contra Costa Fire Protection District in November of 2002 and was acquired by Contra Costa Fire through the annexation of the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District. Station 94 Why did the previous Fire Station 54 in this location close? Fire Station 54, operated at the time by East Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, closed permanently in 2014 due to unsustainable finances at ECCFPD. It was financial pressure, not a lack of need, that forced the closure. The closure caused inadequate response times in a majority of Brentwood, with only 9 firefighters on duty for all of East County's 249 square miles at any given time. Measure X and ECCFPD's merger with Contra Costa Fire has increased staffing to 19 firefighters on duty, but the lack of a station in Downtown Brentwood continues to hamper response time. Station 94 Why is 739 1st Street the best location for Station 94 from a safety perspective? Call data displayed on the heat map (bottom of page) highlight the area immediately around 739 1st Street as some of the highest call volume areas for Brentwood. Data displayed in the heat map is the total number of calls Contra Costa Fire responded to in 2024. Based on this data, Fire Station 94 is ideally located to provide emergency services. Station 94 Why is 739 1st Street the best location for Station 94 from a taxpayer perspective? Because Contra Costa Fire owns the land and the property is zoned by the City of Brentwood for a fire station, it is significantly less expensive and faster to gain approval for a station at 739 1st Street. Purchasing, remediating and gaining new approvals for land that Contra Costa Fire does not own would add years and millions of dollars to the process of building a station. This would create an unacceptable delay of emergency services for Brentwood and significantly increase taxpayers' costs. Station 94 Will Contra Costa Fire take ownership of the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building? No, the new fire station and the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building will be neighbors on two separate parcels. The Fire District will not own, manage, or become the "landlord" for the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building or the property it is on. That parcel is owned by Contra Costa County and is leased to the Veterans group for $1 annually Station 94 Did the County move the property line? Yes, the property line was moved in June 2024 by the Board of Supervisors (File 24-1808). The property line was adjusted to provide the Fire District with an additional 13 feet at the back of the lot to allow fire apparatus to enter through the back of the property and pull through into the building. The Fire District also granted an easement to the County for the Brentwood Veterans Memorial Building parcel, allowing their wheelchair-accessible ramp to stay Contact Us | Contra Costa County FPD, CA Skip to Main Content Create a Website Account - Manage notification subscriptions, save form progress and more. Website Sign In About Us Sections Careers Public Education How Do I Search Home NewsFlash Contra Costa Fire Earns Reaccreditation Award for Dispatch Excellence News Flash Contra Costa Fire Earns Reaccreditation Award for Dispatch Excellence Home Posted on April 30, 2026 Contra Costa County Fire Protection District’s Regional Fire Communications Center has been recognized by The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for emergency dispatching. The District received initial accreditation in 2022 and was reaccredited on March 25, 2026, for an additional three-year period, during which all standards must be upheld. IAED is the standard-setting organization for emergency dispatch services worldwide. Accreditation (and subsequent re-accreditation) from the IAED is the highest distinction given to emergency communication centers, certifying that the center is performing at or above the established standards for the industry. Centers who earn ACE status are the embodiment of dispatch done right, and have demonstrated strong local oversight, rigorous quality processes, and a commitment to data-driven continuous improvement. “The work involved in achieving this level of performance, compliance, and distinction happens every day, on every 911 call received in our Communications Center, and this re-accreditation affirms our center is at the highest levels of compliance with our emergency medical dispatch processes,” said Contra Costa Fire Interim Fire Chief Lewis Broschard. “Accreditation is truly a pinnacle achievement,” said Christof Chwojka, Accreditation Board Chair at IAED. “We applaud the dedicated calltakers, dispatchers, and leadership team at Contra Costa County Fire Protection District for their commitment to quality, and for meeting that high standard that few achieve. We know their community can count on these first, first responders to do an outstanding job.” Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) protocols guide dispatchers through a structured set of questions when a person calls 911 for medical emergencies. Based on the caller’s emergency, dispatchers are required to ask specific, protocol-driven questions to accurately identify the problem, prioritize the call, and dispatch the appropriate level of response. During this process, dispatchers may provide life-saving instructions over the phone, such as how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the Heimlich maneuver, or how to deliver a baby. Contra Costa Fire’s Communications Center maintains a 97% compliance rate, with only 1.5% non-compliance, and 1.5% partial compliance. To achieve and maintain ACE accreditation, dispatch centers must remain below 7% non-compliance, 11% low compliance, and 11% partial compliance, highlighting the exceptional performance and commitment to excellence demonstrated by Contra Costa Fire’s dispatch team.
