WELCOME TO SAN MARINO
Tony Chou
MAYOR OF SAN MARINO
On behalf of City Council, I would like to thank you for visiting our website. San Marino is a premier residential community set in park-like surroundings with a rich heritage. In addition to its exceptional natural and architectural beauty, San Marino has inviting neighborhoods, outstanding police, fire, and emergency services, top-quality City resources and businesses, as well as excellent schools.
San Marino was incorporated in 1913 to protect residents' personal rights and to control the City's growth and activities so residents are guaranteed an exceptional place to live with assurance that property values are protected by stringent zoning regulations and design guidelines. With the help of our friendly and dedicated staff, City Council works diligently to maintain those principles and preserve San Marino's finest qualities, while exercising strong fiscal responsibility.
Our website was recently updated to better serve and inform residents, businesses, and visitors about City services, events, and regulations, and also to encourage greater community engagement and improve communication. Please use the "Report A Concern" feature on the website or email us at
[email protected] if you have any concerns you wish to convey to City Council or staff.

TELEPHONE SCAM INFORMATION Read our handout for important information on telephone scams. KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE FROM TELEPHONE SCAMS Since 2020 began, there has been a rise of telephone scams in the Los Angeles County area. Currently there have been no reported telephone scams in the City of San Marino. The San Marino Police Department would like to take this time to remind everyone of the top telephone scams. IRS SCAMS – Suspect calls the victim and claims to be an officer with the IRS. They will claim the victim owes back taxes or some other form of payment is due. They use fear and claim the victim will be taken to jail if immediate payment is not paid. Usually the suspects ask to be paid in gift cards, Green Dot cards or Bit Coin. TECHNICAL SUPPORT – Suspect calls the victim and poses as a representative from Apple, Microsoft or other large company and claims their cell phone, cell phone carrier, computer or other electronic device has been infected with a virus or hijacked. Usually the suspects ask to be paid in gift cards, Green Dot cards or Bit Coin. FAMILY MEMBER IN TROUBLE – Suspect calls the victim and poses as their grandchild or other family member. The suspect claims to be in jail and are in need bail money, stranded with a broken-down vehicle and needs money to pay a tow service/mechanic, or trapped in a foreign country and need payment to be released. Sometimes they will ask you to speak to a second person to appear more legitimate. The second suspect will pose as a police officer, attorney or some other person of authority. Usually the suspects ask to be paid in gift cards, Green Dot cards or Bit Coin. In each of these scenario’s the suspect is asking for an unusual payment option. Unfortunately, these suspects prey on peoples fear and willingness to resolve a problem or help a family member that they never question the payment options. RULES OF ADVICE Never give out any personal information over the phone. Government agencies or companies do not use gift cards, Green Dot cards or Bit Coin as a form of payment. Hang up and call the government agency, company, friend or family member directly. Contact the San Marino Police Department and report the suspicious phone call. Report the suspicious call the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1 For more information please visit the FTC webpage that talks about these scams and several others at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/scam-alerts ANIMAL SERVICE AND CONTROL Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA handles animal control & dog licenses in San Marino. Pasadena Humane Society will respond to requests for animal control service on weekdays, 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and on Saturdays, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pasadena Humane Society will respond to requests by residents who telephone the City’s Police Dispatch center or other City office or directly telephone the Pasadena Humane Society’s dispatch center. CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK CHILD CAR SAFETY SEAT INFORMATION The City of San Marino Police Department offers its community an opportunity to have a certified professional install their Child Car Safety Seat. As you are aware, many children across the country are injured or killed by improperly fastening safety seats by parents or caregivers. Most collisions occur within a mile of the home, so buckle up your child in a safety seat for every trip. If you are not confident of how to properly secure your child in a safety seat, contact the San Marino Police Department to schedule an appointment by calling (626) 300-0700.
