The Compton College Oliver W. Conner Promise Program was established in 2017 to make a college education more accessible and affordable to high school graduates from the Compton, Lynwood and Paramount Unified school districts.
The Oliver W. Conner College Promise program pays the first two years of enrollment fees at Compton College for any first-time college student (including dual enrollment students). At Compton College, Ramirez (Class of 2022) found a supportive campus staffed with people who wanted to see him succeed. He liked the free meal-per-day program on campus and the other resources offered to students, while smaller classes enabled him to interact with classmates and access personal attention from professors. “Compton College is a great starting place for someone who has been out of school for a few years. The classes in a welcoming environment made the transition into college easier. I tell all my family and friends – especially those with younger kids – that Compton College is a great place to start."

EXPLORE PROGRAM Home Academics Business Industrial Studies Business Business and Industrial Studies Guided Pathway Division Business Administration The business administration program is designed to provide students with a foundation in basic accounting principles, business law, and macroeconomics and microeconomics theory. Students will be able to apply methodologies to assess fiscal and monetary policy in the marketplace and understand the basics of contract law. A degree in business offers students a wide variety of entry-level career opportunities in accounting, management, marketing, and office administration. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be prepared for entry-level careers and transfer to major in Business Administration. Competencies will be assessed through examination and projects. Program Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the degree program, students will be able to: Understand and utilize a comprehensive vocabulary of business/marketing terms. Communicate effectively in a variety of business situations both orally and in writing. Develop the critical thinking skills necessary to address complex business/marketing issues. Demonstrate an understanding of the integrated business/marketing planning process. Program Mapper Business Management The program provides students with the opportunity to obtain a degree in business management. The student completing this program will have the ability to organize, operate, and manage business organizations, utilize human resources, improve working relationships, draft letters and reports, and speak in various business situations. Program Mapper Certificates of Achievement Business Management The Business Management certificate of achievement provides students with the opportunity to obtain a degree or certificate in business management. The student completing this program will have the ability to organize, operate, and manage business organizations, utilize human resources, improve working relationships, draft letters and reports, and speak in various business situations. Competency will be measured by examinations, presentations, projects, and case problems. The SRC supports equity and ensures students with disabilities can reach their full potential. The SRC assists students with disabilities, so they have equal access to all educational programs and activities on campus. Equity Statement The Special Resource Center serves as the designated office of the College that coordinates campus-wide academic adjustments for students with qualifying disabilities. Academic adjustments assist in the facilitation of creating an equitable educational experience for all students at Compton College. The Special Resource Center does not use race preferences or stereotypes in its program and activities, ensuring equal access and support for all students. Disabilities Served Disabilities may include impairments such as mobility, vision, hearing, speech, learning disabilities, psychological, attention deficit, autism spectrum and development disabilities. Students who experience other functional limitations due to acquired brain injury or health problems may also qualify for services. Program Participation Participation in the Special Resource Center is voluntary. Students who choose to identify themselves with the SRC and qualify for services will work with staff to determine appropriate and reasonable academic accommodations. The process of determining academic accommodations does not involve race preferences or stereotypes. Students who do not wish to use the SRC may contact the Director of Diversity, Compliance, and Title IX located within the Office of Human Resources. EXPLORE PROGRAM Home Academics Business Industrial Studies Cosmetology Business and Industrial Studies Guided Pathway Division The cosmetology program offers students the option to gain proficiency in hair cutting, coloring, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, manicuring, pedicuring, and facials. After completing introduction to cosmetology, Cosmetology Level I (Certificate of Accomplishment), students will have the basic skills for entry level positions as specified by the State Board of Cosmetology. Cosmetology Level II (Certificate of Achievement) will give the student intermediate skills to work in the cosmetology industry. Completion of Cosmetology Level III (Associate of Science) will give students 1,600 hours and prepares them to take the California State Board of Cosmetology Examination. Competencies are assessed regularly in compliance with the California State Board of Cosmetology criteria. After successful completion of the California State Board of Cosmetology Examination, students will have a state license to embark on their new career.
