&nbsp; Empowering Students to Succeed and Thrive The Del Norte County Office of Education proudly supports the school district&#39;s&nbsp;implementation of the school-based health alliance which strives to benefit students by working to improve their overall well-being. By offering an integrative approach that includes mental health services and, eventually, health services, we fully support our students by meeting their needs right on campus. We are working to implement three Wellness Centers that are located at Crescent Elk Middle School, Del Norte High School, and Sunset High School. We will also offer a fully staffed mobile mental health services van that will serve more geographically isolated schools. Mental health services have become essential for our youth and their families. Through these services, our students can address mental health needs promptly in the familiar setting of the school. We offer a range of resources to support students and families in facing challenges through prevention, early-intervention, and education.&nbsp; What services do we Provide? DNUSD Wellness Centers The Del Norte Unified School District&nbsp;Wellness Centers offer a range of resources and services for students. Wellness Centers are located at the Del Norte High School, Sunset School, and Crescent Elk Middle School campuses. Virtual Wellness Center Please visit our virtual Wellness Center. The Virtual Wellness Center was designed to support the well-being of staff, students, and parents as well as connect them to calming activities/tools to promote health and wellness. It is a safe space to access support, take a break, rest and refocus. Staff Training Opportunities We offer several training opportunities for our staff that prepare them to assist students with their mental health needs. &nbsp; About Our Wellness Centers Del Norte County Office of Education received MHSSA and SBHIP funding to establish 3 Wellness centers throughout Del Norte County school campuses and 1 Mobile Wellness Center to focus on the outlying, highly rural, and understaffed schools and students who are currently not accessing services. Del Norte County Superintendent of Schools and Del Norte County Department of Behavioral Health aspire to address behavioral needs assessed by parents, students, and staff, such as emotional regulation, anxiety, and depression, by expanding access for students to prevention, early intervention, and intervention services.&nbsp; The goal of these resources and linkage is to prevent mental illness from becoming severe and disabling. Part of our shared goals for Del Norte students is to be able to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. As part of this process, all students in 2nd-12th grade will complete a screener this winter and spring called the SAEBRS, or Social, Academic, Emotional, Behaviors Risk Screener. The screener will ask students a total of 20 questions. The student&rsquo;s teacher will also complete the screener based on their observations of the students in their classrooms.&nbsp; The information is confidential and will only be used by your child&rsquo;s teacher, principal, school counselor, and designated staff to determine instructional needs in the classroom and at the individual student level.&nbsp; All information will remain confidential in keeping with the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. The program is operated through the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). SMAA claims are reimbursements for administrative activities, including Medi-Cal insurance outreach and enrollment, referral to Medi-Cal services, program planning and collaboration of health and Medi-Cal services for the district, and certain administrative activities that improve and support Medi-Cal services to children. Reimbursements are returned to the District as General Fund monies. &nbsp; In order to claim this reimbursement, the district is required to implement a quarterly time survey methodology completed by district employees designated as SMAA participants.
